I'm pretty much illiterate about the technical stuff despite playing on PC my entire life, so a little help here would be appreciated. I've got an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6600 CPU. This could just about run Baldur's Gate 3, the last AAA game I tried, though the stuttering during cutscenes and in certain areas was so bad that I had to set it aside.
Steam lists BG3's minimum specs as Intel I5 4690 / AMD FX 8350 and Veilguard's as Intel Core i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 3 3300X. I take that to mean my PC can't possible run this game. That sound about right?
Guess I've been resisting an upgrade because I am tight-fisted frugal and lazy not eager to deal with the hassle of figuring out how to even go about it. One game isn't worth it, but I guess now there's at least three I need a better PC for: BG3, DA:TV, and hopefully Exodus next year.

One game isn't worth it, but I guess now there's at least three I need a better PC for: BG3, DA:TV, and hopefully Exodus next year. I'm also IT illiterate and honestly, the way PC requirements are presented turned me into a console gamer, despite PC games igniting my interest in gaming in the first place - I m&keyborded my way through all the old Tomb Raiders as a wee youth, and it was great. But as soon as I could not give a damn about those nonsensical numbers, letters, and versions and just play the damn game on a console, I was sold. That said, as my interest in gaming waned in the last few years and my hobbies turned more to cooking, I never got a current gen console, so I'm stuck with a laptop for DA:V. And once again I don't understand the specs, but from what guys here have been telling me, I should be able to play it. Apparently the GPU is more important than the CPU, but I guess the 4 cores in yours may be an issue? Someone who actually knows what they're talking about will surely tell you, this was more of a rant, sorry.

I kin do fanticipated Veilguard woul dbe aroun d100gb so I had already removed Forspoken to make room. So in m ycas eit's jus ta case of clicking preload when it goes up on the EA app.

I am glad the system requirements for DAVe are relatively low. My PC is running an i7-4790k (4 GHz, 4 cores / 8 threads), a GTX 970, and 16 GB of RAM. Still going strong from 2015!
I hope BioWare provides us additional details on what is the target resolution, settings and FPS. For example, will a PC running the minimum hardware run DAVe at 1080p, 30 FPS average, low settings? Or maybe higher FPS.
I am debating building a new gaming PC, but that would be close to 2000 dollars in Canadian. If I can get by one more game with my current PC, that would be great!

My PC is slightly lower from recommend spec. SO I should play the game just fine.
Question , Which graphic setting they use as recommend spec? Max setting with highest resolution?
My resolution is 1600*900 or 1920*1080

But as soon as I could not give a damn about those nonsensical numbers, letters, and versions and just play the damn game on a console, I was sold. I've also always played on PC but I'm seriously considering getting a console as it looks the cheaper option at present. However, my desktop is now 12 years old, so computer wise it is geriatric. I originally bought it because my previous desktop was unreliable even though at the time it was fairly new and was assured my current one would be plenty good enough to run DAI when it came out. Two years later it just met the minimum requirements. So, I've been holding off purchasing a new one until I knew for certain what would be needed but now wonder whether I should bother. However, a PC set up for gaming that meets the minimum requirements for DAV is not that much more than the console. It is all the extra stuff like a new keyboard, mouse and possibly a new screen as well (my current one is even older than the desktop) that adds to the cost, although at least I'd be able to use it for more than just gaming, unlike the console and I'll feel pretty stupid if I buy a console and then the next week the PC gives up the ghost and I have to buy a new one anyway. However, I'd rather preserve this old one as long as I can as I've noticed a lot of the new models don't have a disc drive as standard, so how would I play all my old games?

I've considered getting a ps5 just for DAV, but eh. And as you've said, PCs are supposedly good until they aren't, and then it's upgrade upgrade upgrade. And the games are not even that different, all things considered. I have the money to buy a great rig, but if it's going to have me replace parts every year, and those parts cost $$$, wth. I have other things I can spend money on, and most of them I can at least eat. Maybe a ps5 isn't a bad idea after all. I think my sad little laptop can deal with Veilguard, so I'll think about it afterwards.

Yeah, I just figure that if someone is already considering buying an entire new PC, then adding $30 or so for a usb disk drive is preferable to either giving up on their old games entirely, or restricting their PC purchase to only the options that have built-in optical disk drives.

Same here ... I bought my computer online in November 2024 at the best sales time of the year (US Black Friday time frame). I got a gaming computer with an AMD Radeon 7700 processor, a Nvidia RTX 4070 video card along with 1TB SSD and 32 GB RAM for just over $1200. A similar computer now is just under $1700 although it usually costs over $1800. Point is ... by waiting until November (in the US) to order a new computer, you can save about 30% with the Black Friday Sales. OR ... you can build a PC yourself now ... if needed. Damn bro, you went to the future to get that Black Friday discount. Ahem ... I meant 2023

Sometimes the specs were just overblown, sometimes they weren't. The 6600 is a bit behind the 8400, so it might just work, but the CPU will get hammered and the performance won't be great. Might pull over 30 FPS with lowered settings and minimal tasks in the Windows baclground.

Since people have been comparing it to the specs of Baldur's Gate 3, I just want to point out that I initially played BG3 on the minimum CPU (Core i5-4690) and the game crashed in act 3 when I wanted to talk to NPCs. That game's requirements are lower than they should be. I ended up buying a new PC. I think my PC with GTX 1660, i5-6500 and 16GB RAM can run it? my Processor is about to make a name for itself here, but I don't think it will walk away from this come on, PC! you must survive this one! If you want to be completely sure, system requirements lab has the specs listed on their site and can scan to see if your computer matches up to either the minimum or recommended specs. System Requirements Lab is very unreliable and I personally recommend not using it. I think it's better to google and compare CPUs. In this case, the i5-6500 is below the required i5-8400, with the latter performing better in benchmarks.

That's what a time traveller would say! Thanks for the flattery ... but it might be undeserved by me. You misplaced the time machine and are now stuck here, aren't you?

Since people have been comparing it to the specs of Baldur's Gate 3, I just want to point out that I initially played BG3 on the minimum CPU (Core i5-4690) and the game crashed in act 3 when I wanted to talk to NPCs. That game's requirements are lower than they should be. I ended up buying a new PC. If you want to be completely sure, system requirements lab has the specs listed on their site and can scan to see if your computer matches up to either the minimum or recommended specs. System Requirements is very unreliable and I personally recommend not using it. I think it's better to google and compare CPUs. In this case, the i5-6500 is below the required i5-8400, with the latter performing better in benchmarks. I've never had a problem with it, and I don't really have the technical know-how to go around trying to do all that. I'm not concerned with whether it plays at optimum performance either. That said, as mentioned I personally prefer actual benchmark tools to compare performance since I have a much better idea of how my laptop will run under certain circumstances. Obviously it's not a perfect system re: Sys Req Lab, but for me personally it's been consistent. EDIT: I just checked, and the site literally lists the i5-8400 as the minimum requirement for a CPU to run Veilguard. Where did the i5-6500 spec come from?

I'll be set to run with (finally) above Recommended Specs....Outlaws is pretty depressing, but I think I'll be able to handle that too with the tweaks. But DAVe, I'll go going all-out for sure even in my 3 year old 10900K/2080 Super setup. Back to running games in 4K at or near 60FPS/hz with Settings maxed out as I have been able to with the exception of Forbidden West (which comes in at an average of 50 on Medium settings)

Not sure who you're buying your laptops from but no decent setup should have you replacing parts every year...or even paying out of your pocket since it should come with a warrantee for the first few years. My rig is 4 years old and still running strong...runs BG3 and Cyberpunk on the ultra settings with few issues...and those are more about how well the devs optimized the game overall or certain areas/levels. I'm running the recommended GTX 2070 with 8GB. My only real complaint is how loud it can get when the fans kick in to cool the GPU. Gaming rigs nowadays are only good for 5-7 years if you want to play newer games with at least above average visuals and performance. And lets face it consoles are just cheap computers without any of the advantages of all the other things you can do with a laptop...and games 4-5 years from now will be on the next version of the console so their shelf life is shorter. This is all just my personal take.

My PC is slightly lower from recommend spec. SO I should play the game just fine. Question , Which graphic setting they use as recommend spec? Max setting with highest resolution? My resolution is 1600*900 or 1920*1080 Today I downlaod Final fantasy XVI demo to test if my PC can handle it (XVI require spec little higher than DATV).
I run at 1920*1080 with medium - high setting (on HDD). It can run the game fine with small freeze in some scene.
Hope I can run DATV more smooth than XVI.

That's kinda like me....I can run Horizon Forbidden West on mixed settings (Med, High, Very High) and it runs okay for me OR I do get better overall performance if everything is set to MEDIUM playing in 4K and getting an average of about 55 FPS But Ghost of Tsushima has very very similar spec/requirements....I can run that game pretty much maxed out in 4K and get the same if not higher average FPS.
