Customize for sure. I usually do, and sister Ryder does not fit the bill. If the default face is spot on what I want, then I'll use it. Other than that I allways customize. There was a thread on the old BSN about possible face models for Ryder. I suggested Ruby Rose and would probably have gone with default had they done so. Now Im up in the air about what I want my Ryder to look like (pretty sure the CC wont allow me to make a decent Ruby Rose look-alike), but the default isn't it.Probably something tomboyish.

It has become somewhat of a habit for me to make a brown-haired purple-eyed female character for the first run on Bioware games (since Mass effect anyway.) I'll just stick to that. The defaults aren't bad tho~

As long as the option to customize a protagonist exists, I will seize the opportunity.

Custom also, though I'm surprised by the poll. I thought a lot of people went with default. The defaults are generally well designed, I replayed me3 standalone with the default Jane Shepard look. But otherwise, at least an hour spent staring at the CC screen is tradition!

If I could give default BroRyder auburn hair and a slightly more weathered look (say, add 10 years to him: but a well moisturized 10 years lol), then you would have me in a nutshell I reckon. Well, maybe Scott Ryder is perhaps a bit hunkier than myself, but close enough haha

I'll be customising my own character(playing as sis), customising my bro and dad as well, and spending a good hour doing it :-) Only an hour? Pfft, casual But seriously, it's going to take me a lot longer than an hour to customize my own Ryder, better yet Scott and Alec as well! This thread really needs a poll. From what I can tell, I like Scott's face, and may tweak him slightly and use him as my first protagonist. Sara's face I'm less sold on, but we've barely seen her, to be fair. Still, I just don't see myself using the pregen Sara face, even as a starting point. I already have a woman lead in mind that I've never been able to create, due to CC limitations. I'll immediately test those limitations, as I always do, by trying to bring that character to life.Out of curiosity, what do you have in mind? This thread really needs a poll. EVERY thread needs a poll!! POLLS I think I will go with default sisRyder (with changes if that's available) but I will change broRyder a little (just making him less Cullen-esque in order to avoid Lannister thoughts) You cannot deny your feelings! But seriously, I never really thought about that... That would be a bit awkward. Well, he doesn't look that much like him. It's going to be a Bioware CC, so I will try but I don't know if I'll get anything decent. I just hope there is not an unskippable cutscene at the beggining. From experience I may have to start a new game several time to get anything decent if I don't give up and use default. On the other hand their default faces can be really good. I always use default femHawke and femshep in ME3. I hope they've learned their lesson and don't have terrible lighting in the CC (or let us change it in the preview), let us rotate our character along all 3 axes, and yeah, not have a cutscene before customization. I don't find the "immersive" character creators immersive anyway. Like in DA:I, by the time I'm finished, I have completely forgotten about the giant explosion that's very important. And starting the game with a face you won't use only to change if during a tense cutscene is quite awkward in itself. I hope we get to do the customization before even the intro of the game, personally, which is a bit more likely since we're customizing 3 people, potentially. As an aside, am I the only one who really isn't fond of default ME3 femshep? Part of it is just the face itself, but I suppose it's also because I absolutely love the artwork for her, which is unfortunately not very well translated into the game. So it disappoints me because of that. I spend an inordinate amount of time in the customization screen. It is one of my favorite aspects of Bioware games. I love being able to personalize my character, makes it feel like i'm in the game doing all the things I wish I could in real life, but can't. I know exactly how you feel! If only I could have my own CC in real life... *sigh* I'd have a lot more self-esteem! First time canon faces for both siblings but later on I will do customs. Not canon, but default Anyway, to answer the thread question: I will definitely customize my own character! It's one of my favourite features in games that have it. I spend hours tinkering, even if I'm personally not the best at making characters. Which I guess sort of explains the "hours" part... However, the default face for Sara looks pretty good, and I might use it for a playthrough, but I need to see it in more detail before deciding. Either way, it seems like a good base to work off of, so I'll echo the others who've said they hope we can edit the default faces and that they don't have unique attributes. I'm not sure what I'll do with my canon yet. Most of my characters are brunettes, and quite a few are pale and/or have green eyes and/or freckles. So I was thinking of mixing that up a bit and making a fiery redhead, which is a little funny I suppose, seeing as that was the (ME3) default for Shepard but I didn't use it. Although if I do do that, she'd probably end up being pale with green eyes and freckles as well. I'm not the most original person I also have to do a self-insert at some point - like super self-insert, down to appearance - to maximize the general awkwardness that will be hearing everyone call me by my first name ingame An experience too unique not to try at least once But since it would be a self-insert, I have no idea what I'd name her... So I have a few ideas this time around, and am not sure what I'll do first. But for Scott and Alec, I'll do something sort of in between default and customized. I think I'm going to leave their faces and hair how they are, but change more subtle things where applicable to make them seem like they're related to my character, like shared skin tone, or eye colour, freckles, hair colour, etc. I think it's awesome we can edit them somewhat. Hopefully at least enough to do that! And really, there's no reason we couldn't alter the other sibling fully, since all the CC stuff is obviously already in place for them.

I do like SisRyder's face. There's something unique about her features, but BroRyder is too generic pretty boy for me.
It doesn't matter in the end because I will be customizing the whole family. I like to change up my race from white, and I'm excited to finally be able to customize my family to some extent, so I don't always have to head canon my character being adopted or them being the oddball when it comes to their genetics whenever Bioware gives the MC a family.

I used to play as default DudeShep and default FemHawke, I love the way how they look. But I'll change SisRyder's face for sure. She looks fine, but she could look better. Not sure about BroRyder. For the moment, I don't have any plans to play as him.

I don't know the looks of default femRyder yet, but I'll go definitely with my own created character (except I can't pull off my already manifested vision of how femRyder should look). I love character customization in games in general and can spend hours to whole days in it just experimenting with all the possibilities - if the CC is good and has lots of design variation.

For me it depends on whether you can make a cute male Ryder or not In the first 3 games I played with the default Shep because the character creator had very few and poor options. While in Dragon Age I enjoyed making my own chars, since even DAO had a decent char creator.

Depends on the quality of the character creation. If it's as atrocious as the ME3 import function.........

BansheeOwnage , in regard to characters I have long had in mind, but been unable to realize, you asked: Out of curiosity, what do you have in mind?
I'll put this into a spoiler block, for those who don't feel like reading or scrolling. This would be easier if I jumped on the desktop and used pics, but I don't want to kill my neck, so I'll have to do without them. I actually have a couple of concepts I've been trying for years, and they aren't fully detailed, since everything gets fine-tuned once I'm in the CC. Still, I'll try to explain them below along with the hurdles that prevent my creating them.
The hurdles are easy to list, so I'll get them out of the way. *Hair color: I almost always try to go with black hair first, and it always looks blue-grey. I could fix this with gibbed with ME2/3, but come on! Get this fixed, Biovar! You did the hard work. All I did was add a few zeroes to each RGB value to make it perfect. * Hair: BioWare is terrible at hair, and gives us no variety. Particularly if you want to create a non-caucasian character, you're limited. They ruined the one viable hairstyle in the transition between ME2 and ME3. We simply need better. * Eyebrows: too limited * Skin tones: This has always been a problem. The characters became more and more fair from ME to ME3. Fb3 shows promise in regard to better managing non-caucasian skin tones, so maybe this will soon be a thing of the past. * Other: I could list others, but I feel like DAI was a good step toward eliminating them, so I won't bother.
Okay, to the characters.
I've long wanted to create a black woman as the female lead. My "primary" FemShep was non-white, but not black, nor either African or American. I'd like some nice hair options for this. Something like a spiral curl, even if it's pulled back into a bun or ponytail. I think they can get the rest right, in Fb3, if they can fix the blue hair issue.
The other FemShep that I always tried, and failed, to create is an Indian lead. I tried again to get this look in DAI. I was thwarted mostly by the blue hair. The darker the character's skin, the bluer the "black" hair appears. It's frustrating. With both characters, I do have general features in mind, but those can shift a bit once I'm in the CC.
Mass Effect's future is one in which the various nations and ethnicities are in a different balance than we see now. I liked that little bit of the lore, and I like representing it with my characters. I'd likely do this anyway, as I did in DAI, but it's an extra in-game impetus. Also, we get to play white guys,,and the occasional white woman, in every other game. Why not seize the opportunity for variety when it's granted? I do occasionally play non-white men, as well, if you're wondering. They've proven much easier to create with the options we've had. With ME, I mostly stuck with Sheploo. His textures were impossible to match.

I'll do what I always do: fiddle with CC for several hours, then select one of the default faces and maybe change hair/color. So, technically™, custom.

I'll roll with default face shapes, as beyond adjusting the more superficial traits like hair/eye color, skin tone, etc usually results in... less than desired results in my experience.

As someone who prefers to create black female characters whenever the option presents itself, I relate to this post so much. It's so annoying playing through the trilogy and watching as my femshep gets progressively lighter with each game. That and the character creator itself was just lacking in general, as you mentioned. I liked the variance of faces you could create in DA:I's CC, along with the darker set of skin tones, so I'm hopeful that Andromeda will improve upon it further. I'm hoping to make my Ryder resemble either Aja Naomi King or Simone Missick (Misty Knight on Luke Cage) I would love to be able to pick a hairstyle like Simone's, but I highly doubt BioWare will be able to pull it off.

We'll see. I hope they are able to make black hair black, instead of blue or grey, this time. That would be progress. Maybe the additional time with Fb3 has helped in that regard.

Please let us customise the default face this time, I would like to slightly age Scott Ryder's default face, and give him smoked paprika coloured hair.... Viola! It's me (a well moisturised 36 year old hunk of a Pathfinder)

We'll see. I hope they are able to make black hair black, instead of blue or grey, this time. That would be progress. Maybe the additional time with Fb3 has helped in that regard. Yes, they really need to improve the look of some of the hair colours, black in particular (they can do red fine, but tend not to actually make it an option for some reason). I'm not sure why this is so prevalent/hasn't been fixed, but here are a couple of examples for anyone who hasn't noticed: Examples of grey/blue: Derp face aside, very blue indeed. Cass, too. Less obvious, but present. And grey... This is really quite odd considering it's not just an issue for your created characters, but everyone, and there are a lot of prominent characters with black hair in DA:I: Cassandra, Blackwall, Morrigan, Josephine, Dorian... And as you can also see from the above, this compounds with being EXTREMELY SHINY. Although that extends well past hair in DA:I. It's a VERY SHINY game. Exemplified here: Like someone polished their hair until it reflected their face, somehow. Radiant hair, yes, but perhaps not quite how you'd expect. The radiance doesn't only affect black hair, but in my experience it does affect it the most. Comparison: It's unfortunate as it's one of the main reasons the hair can look "plastic" or pasted onto a face instead of like... well, hair. Reducing the gloss would certainly be a good way to improve the look of hair in ME:A even without better meshes. The other reason it's tragic is because it simply sparks such an unsubtle contrast between the quality of the face itself (which is superb), and that of the hair which shapes it. I mean, look at the above. The detail on the lips, the lighting, the freckles, scars... It looks very real. Unfortunately, the hair has catching up to do. Other than this, the ears are oddly another thing that tend to look much worse than the face lately. At least we can cover them with hair, though! So just like how, in the opposite manner of real life, the faces tend to look better in low-light in DA:I, so does the hair and therefore the whole character. The reflectivity is still present, but downplayed. That's better. Much more black! So... yeah. I was originally just going to post a picture or two. I'm very passionate. Sorry for the image-spam, but hopefully it gets the point across! Bioware, take notes

Custom for me, no question.
I want to have my own character for my first play-through just as I did with the trilogy since I'll probably end up considering that character my main character.
That's the plan at least!

Create my own of course.
* I want to use all the games content because I paid for it * Creating a cool unique protagonist is a lot of fun * It helps roleplay-immersion immensely
