Anime is a Mistake

I finally just got around to watching the new Broly movie, and it is *exactly* as good as everyone says it is. Best Dragon Ball movie yet.

I just finally saw Fate Stay Night Heaven's feel route. (two movies out of 3, the third one comes around this dates but next year)


I can't wait ufotable with the animation of Fate Grand Order singularities of Camelot and Babylonia.

Ive been watching Finding Paradiso as of late. Pretty good imo. Great characters.

I'm giving some thought to rewatching Death Note after many, many years.

I stopped being interested in animation years ago, and essentially swore off amateurishly written police procedurals and series focusing on unrealistic xanatos gambit pileups after watching more grounded television about criminality like The Sopranos, The Wire and Breaking Bad.

That said, a recent fascination with the concept of human faith and a better understanding of the development of young men into adults have inspired me to revisit some of my teenage favorites to see how they square up with my worldview today.

I remember identifying very easily with Light's feelings of purposelessness and lack of real engagement in daily life - and his high-minded judgement of the rest of the world that he barely had any experience with as ugly and corrupt and beneath him, leaving him open to depression and manic tendencies. If anything, that premise is a lot more relevant today than it was in the 2000s, in a way the series doesn't get credit for very often.

I expect that, now knowing that that kind of mindset is mostly something you grow out of when confronted with the responsibilities of adult life, your first truly intimate relationships and finding something constructive and challenging to do with your career, his descent into narcissistic madness will seem doubly tragic.

Just realized that this favorite manga of mine had become an anime. Nothing quite like seeing someone adapt one of your darling franchises and actually do it justice. And it rocks. And it's gorgeous. And it's animated by the guys responsible for Attack On Titan, so there's really no excuse.

Only annoying thing is all the overseas viewers getting confused by the title. FYI: Vinland isn't some weird old name for Finland, it was the name given to North America by Scandinavian explorers including Leif Erikson(who features in the anime) around 1000 A.D.

The series is about vikings and anglo-saxons trying to reconcile their dreams of safety and prosperity with their warlike cultures and earthly conflicts, clinging to the half-mythical paradise of peace and freedom and boundless fertility beyond the sea when it seems like they're living in hell on earth.

Or are too slighted or injured and possessed by the need for revenge to imagine deserving anything else.

"Wotakoi Love is Hard for Otaku" is the most wholesome anime I've ever seen. It's great.

I'm looking forward to Kingdom S3 given its the coalition arc.

Honestly didn't see that coming since S2 was back in 2013.

Hell of a hiatus.
