Hey guys, I just noticed I have 3 Audible credits I kninda need to spend before I turn off the subscription. Any good tipps on audio (or just generally) books to spend them on? Usually I listen to scifi or fantasy stuff. Some of my all time favorites are: The Expanse books The Hyperion Cantos/Endymion The Wheel of Time series LotR (obviously) The Foundation books Wouldn't mind if it's a long running series. Any suggestions are welcome. If you like classic fantasy a la Lord of the Rings, but with more interesting character development, then I can recommend Tad Williams, The Dragonbone Chair - it's high fantasy with a really gripping plot and great characters.

I'm currently reading The Witches of Woodville - a trilogy by Mark Stay. It's nice - it's a bit as if Terry Pratchett witches live in our world in Great Britain during WW2 - a mixture of adventure and fun.
I just finished book 1 and have started book 2

I can recommend Tad Williams, The Dragonbone Chair - it's high fantasy with a really gripping plot and great characters. I read that trilogy aaaages ago. The third book, To Green Angel Tower, iS MASSIVE! One line of dialogue I still remember, that gave me chills upon reading it: "Who is to say it's meant for us?!" I also enjoyed his Otherland series.

The other Tad Williams book I really liked was The War of The Flowers (it's a reference to The Faeries in the books names not actual flowers ). "Theo Vilmos' life is about to take a real turn for the worse. He is drawn from his home in Northern California into the parallel world of Faerie, for, unknown to him, he is a pivotal figure in a war between certain of Faerie's powerful lords and the rest of the strange creatures who live in this exotic realm."

Thanks heaps everyone! Lot's of great suggestions! I went ahead and spent my remaining credits on Iakus suggestion of the Saga of the Seven Suns for now. The text blurb sounded pretty cool (a bit Mass Effect-y) so I spent my last 3 credits on the first 3 books of the series. It'll be a while before I get around to it. I am still going through other books at the moment and mainly just needed to use those last credits before canceling my membership for a while. But I'll let you know what I think when I get around to it. Thanks again! Hey AnDromedary , too late now in terms of spending your credits but a one off book I'd recommend (to anyone really) is "To Ride Hell's Chasm" by Janny Wurts Keen to hear your thoughts re The Saga of The seven Suns, I read it along time ago. To Ride Hell's Chasm"An epic fantasy standalone novel from the author of the stunning Wars of Light and Shadow series. When Princess Anja fails to appear at her betrothal banquet, the tiny, peaceful kingdom of Sessalie is plunged into intrigue. Two warriors are charged with recovering the distraught king's beloved daughter. Taskin, Commander of the Royal Guard, whose icy competence and impressive life-term as the Crown's right-hand man command the kingdom's deep-seated respect; and Mykkael, the rough-hewn newcomer who has won the post of Captain of the Garrison – a scarred veteran with a deadly record of field warfare, whose 'interesting' background and foreign breeding are held in contempt by court society. As the princess's trail vanishes outside the citadel's gates, anxiety and tension escalate. Mykkael's investigations lead him to a radical explanation for the mystery, but he finds himself under suspicion from the court factions. Will Commander Taskin's famous fair-mindedness be enough to unravel the truth behind the garrison captain's dramatic theory: that the resourceful, high-spirited princess was not taken by force, but fled the palace to escape a demonic evil?"

The Dragonbone Chair was great but I don't think I could name a character or anything about it it has been so long since I read it. There was a time, I read that once a year - and how can you not remember Binbinquegabenik ? War of Flowers was great too. I basically like everything, Tad Williams did. I haven't read the new Osten Ard books yet though.

So finished "The Sins of Our Fathers: An Expanse Novella" (The Expanse) A short story post the ending of The Expanse novels by James S.A. Corey I am actually not sure what the point of the book was. It is exciting to find out it is about the fate of a character you don't know what happened to in the main books but whilst you learn something it is left again with a what happened to them after that??? You do also find out what happened to a side character in the stories but again nothing major. Sadly disappointing TBH, hope this is just a building block for future books.

I finished "The Little Shop of Happy Ever After" by Jenny Colgan. "Nina Redmond is a literary matchmaker. Pairing a reader with that perfect book is her passion… and also her job. Or at least it was. Until yesterday, she was a librarian in the hectic city. But now the job she loved is no more. Determined to make a new life for herself, Nina moves to a sleepy village many miles away. There she buys a van and transforms it into a bookmobile—a mobile bookshop that she drives from neighborhood to neighborhood, changing one life after another with the power of storytelling. From helping her grumpy landlord deliver a lamb, to sharing picnics with a charming train conductor who serenades her with poetry, Nina discovers there’s plenty of adventure, magic, and soul in a place that’s beginning to feel like home… a place where she just might be able to write her own happy ending."

Yeah, i noticed that in goodreads. I don`t know why but the uk and the usa editions have different titles. The portuguese edition have the same title as the uk edition, that`s why i chose to write that one, but i don`t know which one is the original title . But you are right, it is the same book.

Just finished this book. I think people in this thread have discussed the series before but I went in blind and bought 5 of this guys books via kindle sight unseen so to speak. I liked it a lot. Really good book imo and am looking forward to the other four books from this author. Quite liked the concept and the protagonist.

Peacemakers. The Galactic Union’s most capable enforcers and resolute negotiators, their name alone elicits fear and awe among the Union’s citizenry.
Having completed a harrowing confirmation mission, Jessica Francis stands ready to become Earth’s first Peacemaker and believes obtaining her commission is a mere formality. However, certain members of the Guild question her ability. Worried that she’ll fall back on her mercenary ways, they want Jessica to prove her mettle at the negotiating table before she puts on the distinctive insignia of a Peacemaker.
Dream Worlds are terraformed planets inhabited by multiple species living and working in harmony. Operated by a governing Consortium, each carefully-controlled world is marketed as a paradise, but Araf is far from. The conditions are deplorable, and its three colonies are moving relentlessly toward all-out war over scarce resources and broken promises.
A three-way showdown for dominance looms—can Jessica prevent war and bring back peace? One thing is certain; she’s never walked away from a fight, and she’s not going to start now.I'm noticing certain similarities between Peacemakers in The Four Horsemen setting and Mass Effect's Spectres. Though Peacekeepers are more cops than military forces.

"The Bookshop on the Shore" by Jenny Colgan. Is that a sequel to the other one? Yes it is but not a direct sequel, it has a different main character but theres`s cameos of some of the characters from the other book. There`s also a third book in this series called 500 Miles from You (all the books take place in the town of Kirrinfeif). Though i have to say that i much preferred and enjoyed the first one over this one, i was in fact a bit disappointed with this book.

Just finished Master of Furies the third book in the Firemane Trilogy by Raymond E. Feist. I'd have to go back and check posts ages ago to be sure but my recollection of the first two books was they were fantasy light in regards to the depth of the story but I found certain parts really interesting and the main characters were engaging. The third book introduces a new "Nation" and set of characters and I struggled to make myself read it at first as I wanted to know what was happening in particular to the three central characters. However once it got back to the main characters I flew through it being impatient to get to the last page of one characters story arc as I had a strong suspicion a much beloved Feist character would make an appearance. Overall I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to the next one but I will spoiler some stuff in case others want to read it. Well I was not disappointed Pug/Milamber but it happened literally on the last two pages!!!!!
So end result was I very much enjoyed the book although the first part of the book was tied to very near the end without much of that part in the middle and was a little trite in it's resolution.

Mankind's history is bound up in the fabric of fate, a strong cloth, tough and closely woven.
It is the beginning of 1918, the last year of the greatest war in human history, to date. All the belligerents stagger on their feet. Starvation is an ever present reality, while disease waits in the wings. In Russia, no longer a belligerent but, instead, rapidly descending into civil war and chaos, a lone family—Father, Mother, four beautiful young girls, and a brave but sickly boy—await their own fate, shivering and hungry in the dark, hoping and praying for salvation.
Their relatives in England have turned their backs. The guards set over them do little but torment them. They look Heavenward, but God doesn't answer. They know they're a threat to the new regime, a threat that will, in time, be eliminated.
But even the strongest fabric has flaws. An escaped prisoner of war, caught, injured, and punished, but still highly capable, might be one. An airship, returned and at loose ends after a failed mission to Africa might be another. A German general, taking a wrong turn on his nightly walk and suddenly coming face to face with the reality of the monster rising in the east, would be a third.
Follow, then, as the general gives the orders, the prisoner of war raises the men from among his fellows, and the airship launches itself forward, to contest fate, to tear the fabric of time, and to effect The Romanov Rescue.

So started reading the "Children of Time" by Adrian Tchaikovsky which I think was recommended by q5tyhj and if so thanks it is amazing when even from the first few pages of a book it's quality leaps of the pages and engages you. Even when after only a short time it takes a change of perspective and still engrosses you it (at least for me) is a good sign and I had to make myself stop reading it and go to bed. Not far in but already enjoying it.
