I was about to say Liara is the canon romance in the OT haha, there is no debating this.

I've been replaying the ME Trilogy before I start my New Game Plus on Andromeda; and going through Mass Effect 3, I much prefer the mission structure of this game than the open world to Andromeda. An amazing 45 hour experience is much better than 90 in an open world where even though the combat may shine, the structure and story do not.

I'm also a blasphemer who's favorite game in the trilogy is Mass Effect 3. 

Did Bioware state anywhere officially that Liara is the canon LI in the trilogy?

In that case Vetra must be declared the official LI in ME:A series

Well, you see the only hints for Liara is that she cannot die anywhere in the original trilogy storyline and she gets quite a lot of attention as "official Mass Effect cover".
But then again Tali and Garrus also grew on fans so much they often overshadow Liara.
This is why I think there is no official LI in the trilogy.

I think they will go the same path in ME:A series.
Take all the characters that got best reception in ME:A 1 as teammate / NPC / LI, then expand on those characters and their romances in future installments.

ME1 is my personal favorite still (just not..combat). I love the Suicide Mission for what it is, but I hate that it hamstrung the squad composition in 3. Every ME2 squadmate that isn't Garrus or Tali got sidelined because they could all potentially be dead. It sucked assembling this new team, bonding with them, and losing everyone but Team Dextro. Even though I liked Vega more than I was expecting, I hated them bringing a new guy in the final act, and I was perfectly fine with disembodied EDI. Would have preferred to have Grunt, Miranda, or Jack back instead.

Vetra will be my canon romance for Andromeda though. I never settled on one for the trilogy because I was never huge into any of them. I liked ME1 Ashley a lot, but that changed quickly in ME3.

In MEA so far the Scott+Vetra is my canon. It's set in stone and all that. Love her romance so much! Judging by the videos the Cora romance is nice too (both outcomes!), but I don't think she can beat Vetra. I'm having trouble finding someone for Sara. Liam is a no because he's the usual Kaidan-Jacob. Jaal was written for girls/women only. Too much sugar for my taste. I really like the Garrus romance, not because I find him attractive but because the romance arc is nicely written and done. Also Jennifer Hale gives a 110% performance, you can tell that she was really into it. I got the same impression in the Scott+Vetra romance, both of them performed excellently.

But back to Sara. That leaves only PB and Vetra. I don't have a problem with PB, but she needs some time getting used to and the open world pacing hurts her arc (and I'm guessing all the others) even though the no-strings bang is available relatively early. In the trilogy Liara+FemShep felt like the better one (I admit I haven't finished my MShep+Liara pt, I just watched the videos) that's why I went for her with Sara first. I mentioned it before that I don't really feel her character, maybe it'll improve in the actual romance scene (I know, swapped riding) and the follow-up dialogues. That leaves Vetra but she's canon for Scott, so I'm conflicted.

My only beef with ME3 is the ending. Or to be precise, was, MEA gave the final push to move on. A few dislikes here and there and I expected the EMS to actually amount to something (see ME2 suicide mission preparations and specialist choices). Other than that it's a fine game. ME1 had the best atmosphere (design, music, etc), ME2 had the best companion and story related content and ME3 had the best gameplay and conveniences (no dialogue scene if there's nothing new, citadel travel, etc). I don't think they'll move back to the ~closed, smaller maps of the past games but if they want to keep doing the open world then make them count! It felt like that only Eos mattered, the rest is just there... Multiple companion quests on the non-story planets, separate but interconnecting planet stories, something. I wouldn't even mind if they went back to the Kotor type  'visit the stops, race to the finish line and watch as the ships converge on the big object in the middle' story if it means that the stops are fully developed story parts.

I'm curious to see where the Vetra romance will go, I think the only romance I wanted to see continue from Bioware was Morrigan in DAO. While I prefer what Mass Effect did with having the same PC and Squad in multiple games, I always enjoy first meetings and first romances more than expanding upon them. But Vetra is definitely one I'm looking forward to them expanding upon, I'm just not sure how.

Destroy is canon. I know people can make "their Shepard" however they like but the "character" of Shepard that Bioware created would only ever pick Destroy. He also lives in only that ending and that was deliberate on Bioware's part.

Yep Morrigan showing up and gushing over My Warden was the highlight on DAI and probably the only part of that game I actually liked.

I'd be the one "expanding" for a Vetra sex scene if ya know what I mean. 

Right. I think there is no "canon" per say but if we go with the characters with the most content it would be Liara for both Shepards. I think the "canon" or pushed relationships are going to be Cora and Jaal. Seems they got the most love from BW this time around. I just want lots more Vetra content. Probably depends on her popularity if she will get more time dedicated to her. She seems to be pretty damn popular.



Morrigan is my favorite Bioware romance also.
