I think we get a chance to meet har about ~2-3 hrs into the game.

The first 60-90 minutes of the game as the journalist previews from few days back state are oriented on that Habitat 7 toxic planet where you crash land and need to get off somehow (probably serves as an introduction/tutorial section).

So I think after that we go straight to Nexus or Tempest -> Nexus and right there we get to met Vetra.

In my experience, people tend to call female characters "the mom" when they've run out of the very limited female archetypes to refer to them as. If not the "ingenue" or "the femme fatale" or "the crone," then "the mom."

So I'm taking that quote with a grain of salt until we meet her in-game.

My mother is 1.56m and drags me along for shopping for that very reason, so I can relate.

I am not happy about the "ship mom" title, either. It's bad enough the default Ryders look a bit like teenagers, no need to have a squadmate as some sort of mother hen on top of that.
Motherly and badass don't go well together, imo (see shelf issue...).
