Is it just me or do all the comparisons to Jarvis seem true at this moment? Imagine Orange... or Maybe Ultron?   "Why do you call him sir?" Exactly This!!! Glad someone else knew what I meant  On another note, since Ultro.... I mean SAM is connected to the Tempest Crew. I imagine those who join the crew will receive such an implant (pure speculation on my part). So he monitors the Pathfinder and feels what they feel and see what they see etc... SAM: Pathfinder, why when you look at the Turian Vetra does your heart rate increases by around 12bmp? Sarah: *whispers* SAM Shut up! Vetra: I can hear him too Sarah. What else do you notice SAM? Sarah: Don't answer SAM. SAM: The Pathfinders gaze often appears to be drawn to your posterior. She often also tends to look up at you in, I believe the word is Awe. Vetra: Ah *her mandibles twitch* are all humans so small? SAM: Sarah Ryder is the shortest member of the Ryder family, My database suggests that it is inherited from her moth.... Sarah: SAM!!! SAM: My apologies Pathfinder, I am still getting used to monitoring your emotions. A female subject appears to differ from a male, I theorize... Sarah: SAM!!! So it is boring that to me that the AI is a female model again. Why this time not a male model? Because of the variety and such I mean. What about SAM strikes you as female? SAM struck me as male. I mean obviously as an AI they don't have any real gender, but I've been using male pronouns. Listen at the beginning and judge for yourself. Sounds more male to me, but it seems like they were going for a bit more neutral sounding voice. |

I think it would be interesting if SAM sort of came about as an AI without necessarily any intention of that being the case. If the limits kept getting pushed to make a VI that could handle anything thrown at it in a strange galaxy - then, at some point, it awakens to sentience. How does the crew handle it? Might be too much going on in MEA to properly handle that but perhaps in a future game it could be touched on. Just rewatching the crew member briefing, kind of sounds to me that Ryder(they make it seem like the dad) has a different implant than the other members of the team, as he's the only one mentioned having advanced situational awareness, problem solving and tactical enhancements. While the rest of the crew can only communicate with SAM through their implant.
That plays out better than the way I initially interpreted it as everybody having the same implant.

Yeah, I get that impression too. That it's only the Pathfinder that has all the fancy neural enhancements and such. The rest of the squad can only talk to it and vice versa. And something goes funny with it when Dad leaves the picture. So we become the new Pathfinder instead of Cora or Liam, who seem to be more likely candidates as part of Dad's chosen team. |

So, is there anything that indicates whether we will have the SAM chip implanted before or after the start of the game? Given the fact that the developer says your title starting out is "Recon Specialist" and that Daddy!Ryder is indeed pathfinder at the very start of the game, I imagine we get a little bit of time without SAM before we get our upgrades |

Perhaps DadRyder gave kids full kit just in case and when the time comes, Sam just activates Pathfinder Mode because there is no time to operate Cora or she's simply unavailable at the moment. |
