Well, if nothing else, him not showing up a lot in promo material and them being unable to talk about him does support him being gay. Usually, the hetero (and if asari the bi) characters get the marketing, and, after the immense backlash against DA:I having gay-only romances, they probably don't even want to let people's hopes up about him if they can't hetero-romance him, since Mass Effect's audience has always been a little less accepting. Unfortunately, this also might mean he's not a very significant character, though, to be fair, it's not like important NPCs in Inquisition got a lot of marketing either because of spoilers. Other than that, I wonder what role he could have. We have a screenshot of someone else in the science officer's chair, so Reyes likely isn't the science officer of the Tempest. Maybe he's mission control? Yes, I think he's comparable to Steve and only a secondary character. If we get a relevant romance option at all it's definitely one of the bisexuals. But usually, I'm out of luck in those things, so it might be a heterosexual character who's story relevant in the end....

Or Cullen, who I would classify as a secondary character, yet has one of the most popular romances and is a very well received character. Reyes being a secondary character isn't a bad thing. Hell, they may do him right this time around. So all this negativity being spouted makes no sense to me, but I guess that's just me. Who or what else did Courtney Woods write? Does anyone else know?

I don't think Cullen's situation is that comparable since, not only was that not his first Dragon Age game (while ME3 was Cortez's), but he was also a straight character with a straight-only romance. It's not a secret that, oftentimes, those kinds of characters get different treatment than gay male characters unless the latter is written by a gay writer. However, I hope you are right and that I'm just being negative. If Reyes turns out to be Cullen-level of importance or more, then I'll concede that you were right all along. Until then, though... We got reason to worry. Anyways, He could just be a different kind of scientist. There are multiple scientific feilds. For example, we could have an astrophysicist and a xenobiologist. Both would probably be useful fot exploring planets to colonize, but study different feilds. This is a good point. There are different scientific disciples. Maybe Reyes is specialized in biochemistry while the person we saw in the science officer seat was more astro-physics.

Hell, they may do him right this time around. So all this negativity being spouted makes no sense to me, but I guess that's just me. , Who or what else did Courtney Woods write? Does anyone else know? We got reason to worry. Yes, but Cullen mostly just "showed" up in those Dragon Age games. In DA:O, he was just a templar that pleaded us to kill the mages in the next room, which any other templar could have filled his place in, and in DA2, he was working under Meredith, and was hardly important besides being one of her few named lackeys. He's really only important in Inquisition, and he has a much bigger role in it. Compare it to Cortez, an important member of the Normandy, where despite being in one game, was the pilot that flew us in and out of missions constantly and even saved Shepard and co on one mission, though I can't remember which. Cortez isn't lacking content, but lacking romance content, which I can't agree or disagree with, since I have not made any moves to see what his romance was liked. I find his sexuality pretty irrelevant in this case. Yes, he was straight, but also race-gated, which kills the romance for females playing Dwarf or Qunari. What does a character having a gay writer having to do with anything? Just because a writer is gay does not mean they will write a gay character, and if they do happen to do that, it doesn't mean it will be a well-written character, even if they do offer them, as you say, "better treatment," despite the multitude of other characters that will be in the game. A straight writer is capable of writing a good gay character. And no, I disagree with your last sentence. I do not believe there is any reason to worry, mostly because they haven't given us much info on Reyes. While it isn't ideal in any sense, people somehow took a few lines from Reyes and are already thinking he's going to be a second rate character, which I find utterly ridiculous. Many of you people are making mountains out of molehills, and I see no cause to fuss or be disappointed without any substantial proof. tl;dr I recommend that you guys stop fretting so much and I can't wait to see Reyes in person!

Well, we'll see when the game releases. If I'm proven right, then I think it'll be pretty disappointing (and not in a "I was ridiculous" way, in a "Bioware once again forgets its LGBT playerbase" way). I'm glad you have so much faith in them, though. I wonder how Reyes will get on with the rest of the crewmembers. Maybe it'll be a situation like in Inquisition where the crew have their own inside jokes, like them joking about Cullen's hair products.

Maybe he's mission control? I like where you are going with this. It's unfortunate that despite the setting, atmosphere and mood the Mass Effect series take place in, that so many fans are less than accepting. Like, they're willing to play a game oozing unity through diversity and aliens you can bang, but oh no should a man kiss another man, it's the end of the world as we know it. Smh. Cause that makes sense. To go off what you're saying though, it's mostly just the silence that has me going bonkers. I can only hope Reyes is a cool guy and I don't want to be left with my imagination as to who he is and then get dissapointed when he doesn't match up. The sooner we hear about him the better! I also have heard fans on other sites debate Reyes position as either the Science Lead or Head of Primary Missions Control. From the trailer that prides the scanning and analysis tools, they seem more focused on a mission viewpoint/theory rather than scientific data so I'm tempted to go with the idea that Reyes will have his job description on the Tempest primarily focus on missions and not science. Especially with this. For those who don't read Spanish, it resonates with that thought that Reyes is crucial in helping Ryder with mission investigations. Strong CSI vibes. feainn Thank you for asking!!! And you're way pretty by the way!

Haha, speculation mode is on. ;p Maybe he's related to the Quarian plotline without being a Quarian himself. Like maybe he helped them get into the Andromeda Initiative, whether legally or illegally. Who knows? If he's smart, he probably saw the value of a tech-specialized culture (that is practically dying out anyways due to various factors) coming to the Andromeda Galaxy. He could be trying to help them find their new homeworld, one that might even be compatible with their biology. It's a longshot, but he could be an optimist in that way. Mostly likely, though, they just don't want to answer because some people will take "no" as "Quarians aren't in the game."

I don't know if anyone else got the vibe I did but, from the snippet of the Gameplay trailer where Reyes spoke, he seemed more... upbeat than Steve? I don't know how to explain it. Probably the part where he goes "it's a start!"

I'm a bit late, but... I feel like Reyes will be more comparable to the advisors in Inquisition than Steve or Samantha in ME3. Steve and Samantha's romances were... not handled that well. Especially Samantha's, unfortunately. I love her, but her romance felt like it was designed to be fanservice for a male viewer to me. Steve, while I also love him, was rather uncomfortable for me, personally. He'd lost his husband to the collectors, which... isn't a lot of time to move past a loved one's death and consider dating again, not to mention the message Robert left him felt terribly forced in how it pushed him to find love again. Whatever you might think of Cullen's character aside, his romance was handled well and had just as much content as his companion peers. He couldn't make comments during missions, of course, but he still had romance related banter with Josephine and Leliana. Josephine's romance I haven't finished playing through just yet, but she appears to be the same way. Sure, the ME team is different to the DA team, technically, but they still learn from each other and many of the DA writers moved to the ME team once DA:I was finished. So, I think we have solid hope for a well written romance if he is one of our gay options and isn't a companion. Edit: So, my fool arse belatedly realised this was an argument going on in the Liam thread and not. Here. This is what I get for having multiple tabs open. Still, it's my thought on his potential as a romance option so... still relevant? As for my thoughts on Reyes himself: I'm ignorant to Spanish accents, so I can't say if it's realistic or not. I like the sound of his voice, though, and I like his voice actor too. I might be made rather biased by the mission we heard him in as well, as I love deductive reasoning and find forensics utterly fascinating. I liked how he talked to Ryder! I can't quite put my finger on it, but I enjoyed what little we heard of his attitude.

Her scene in the hot tub is a big facepalm for me, I mean, it makes sense the fanservice if you romance her, my gay Shepard was like girl what are you doing! XD it's not just she's in her bikini, the shots and the view in the scene were straight-male-fapping material The scene would have been a lot of nicer if both take a bath talking about board games and stuff, without fanservice included, as great friends they are.

So now we know that it's spelled Roekaar and that they are indeed Angaran as I thought... Yeah in the trailer about it you see the scan says 100% Krogan and 100% Angara DNA and then Sara says it's Angaran blood. Powerful guys if they can pry a Krogan's plate off!
