Money spent on establishing a working moon base first would be better spent, IMO. The further we can establish a supply depot and landing area in case something on a more daring manned mission goes wrong, the better.
Plus Helium 3 can be used for cold fusion and apparently the moon has a lot of it. Starcraft tells me We should be focusing on setting up a mining operation there, though I figure private companies will fill that void eventually.

Cold fusion is still too far from what actual or near future tech can do.
Mars offers good conditions for a long term exploration (despite the distance) when compared to other worlds in the inner Solar System and also we can search for life there, either as fossil or modern living things, since it is know some Earth beings are capable of living on Mars conditions (like tartigrate or lichens).
But i agree about exploring the moon too.

I definitely agree Mars should be the first planet we colonize given current information about it. I just think we should focus on creating a daisy chain to get there instead of "Here's 5-10 months in a box, have fun." Establishing a moon base, then maybe a station further out, then maybe one after that... Rest stops on the sol system highway, so to speak. Also a moon base would let us play around with 0G construction and maybe some terraforming and setting up habitats and a ton of other things that would be useful to have tested out in a close-by, "easily" reachable, hostile-to-life environment, before trying to colonize a far off planet. There's just so many potential benefits to exploring and utilizing the moon first. Going to Mars now is like trying to ride the rapids at the end of Oregon Trail when you're unprepared. Its gonna go badly, and even if you make it, its very likely gonna be a one way trip. (I'm not trying to argue with you, bshep. I know you didn't say you were against what I said about the moon or anything. Just expounding more on why I think the way I do. )

Weren't those two threads (discussion and archieve) created so even if derailing happens, those who look for info don't need to come here? And we can carry on how we always did (with occasional derailing)?

EDIT : I hate multiple tabs. First of all posting ME stuff in the DA thread, and now posting DA in the ME thread.
WE all know about Deus Ex : Mankind Divided's new "multiplayer" system called Breach right? Here's the video if you don't know it.
What if BioWare's new IP and ME:A are connected in the same way, and that's why they are being super secretive about it?

Blair Brown @thefiddzz Probably had my favorite moment in #MEA so far thanks to @joanna_Berry writing the [REDACTED] about the [REDACTED] during the [REDACTED]. Ian S. Frazier @tibermoonCripes, man. Spoilers! Blair Brown @thefiddzz sorry, I'll try to make it more vague the next time Jo drops a killer plot like that on me.

ME:A, The discovering of Thedas? Well, not exactly. I was thinking about No Man's Sky, thinking about how you have to repair your ship to even get to the moon, then I started thinking about DE:MD, and kind'a crushing those two together. I mean, it is one of those kind'a conspiratorial kind'a ideas. But I thought I'd run it past y'all. See if it goes anywhere.

ME:A, The discovering of Thedas? Hmm... I like where you're going with this. I'm seeing it: Solas is the main villain. Milkywayers consider him a superpowerful biotic because "magic? Magic doesn't exist, duh!" and being a god nah, they dismissed that claim. Qunari and Krogan start to fight in order to prove who is the biggest badass. Humans see elfs as "slim humans with pointed ears", dwarfs as "short humans", qunari as "minotaurs" and darkspawn as "reapery-cannon fodder". Why? Because you humans are all racists! Everything very anthropocentric. On the other hand, thedas people see Asari as "Lust Demons", Krogans as Darkspawn, Turians as Darkspawn, Salarians as Darkspawn. Why? Because this is Thedas and all is about darkspawn and rifts.

These are good points. Some of the archive delay has been around debating the formatting. To make it easier, the archive thread is now unlocked so if anyone wants to drop an archive tweet copy in there, they can.

I guess it isn't a waste but sometimes I feel like we're adept at exploring the solar system now and really should invest as much as possible in physicist research into interstellar travel theory. This solar system really doesn't have anything I'm interested in and those complex space-time dilemmas aren't going to solve themselves.

The more we discover about them more fascinating the worlds in the Solar System become. That is the beauty of science. It's like asking the poor to be happy with what they have. Just because you can mentally break yourself to reset your expectations and condition yourself to enjoy circumstances you cannot control doesn't justify corrupting the original true objective which exists out there.
