This isn't so, sadly. I am currently using Sara #7 and Scott #9. Alec used #7.
So... exactly what @lc said. Dad will always use Scott's preset that has the same number as your character. It's only on you that Scott doesn't look like Alec, because you didn't choose matching preset (which dad always uses).
Thanks haha it's confusing to explain. It's weird how they set it up. Also I know they are not identical twins, but the preset siblings hardly look like twins at all imo.

I'm not sure if this is a bug, but can someone tell why the collar on the Pathfinder Armor X sticks out for male Ryders but not for female Ryders? It looks weird and I like the popped collar on my female Ryder.

Ellen Ryder's ethnicity is very ambiguous. It allows her to believably work for any protagonist.
Yeah, her ethnicity was unclear, but, ugh, Ellen and Alec did not age well. They looked rough and way older than they are, at least Ellen did for me.
They both look pretty good to me. I'm not aware of an official age for Ellen, but she's probably in her 50s, I'd think. She was a "pioneer" in her field in the 2150s, around thirty years ago. Alec is 56.
She's terminally ill, and Alec has lived a hard military life.

My parents are similar ages as these toons and did not age like raisins. I suppose sickness plus military life though make sense.

If you think they look old, check the ages on Anderson and Hackett. Hackett must've had a rough life.

They should have made Hackett close in age to his VA Lance Henriksen (he was 72 by 2012) or better yet the ME universe equivalent age for humans, since they have bigger lifespans (up to 150).

People age differently, so although sickness/stress may play a part, it is not a necessary explanation. Although I'm well on the way to 70 but I haven't yet reached the prune stageB) . Just don't ask about the liver and kidneys.

well I'm nearly 40 as I'll be 40 this time next year
People age differently. As I've said before. My platoon sergeant looked 77, but was 37.

Still not working is the mechanic of the game auto customising Dad Ryder to look similar to custom bro/daughter Ryder. My decision to drop my current game and start a new one with a customised Sarah gave me the result below.
Only the eye colour (from a previous cinematic clip) shows a potential relation. A good idea, poorly implemented. Patch 1.07 may fix this but really, what's the point at this stage? On the other hand is the fix as simple as picking the same options from the custom character with a male gender and older facial features, minus female cosmetics?
It seems Alec and Scott will always look alike, so if you choose preset 9 Sara, look at preset 9 Scott to get an idea of what your dad will look like. If you choose preset 9 Sara though and preset 5 Scott, dad will still look like preset 9 Scott because Sara is your PC.

Thank you for that info.
However, Bio's statement is that dad Ryder will look similar to the PC. Clearly he doesn't and that makes the statement false. So, Bio made either a marketing faux pas or the implementation is incorrect/incomplete. If Bio does not want to fix this, then the studio ought to make an official statement indicating the dad looks based on possible sibling customisations.... just to "clear the air".
Btw, I used Head 9 to start my customisation of Sarah and did not touch Scott. How I got that dad look is a mystery to me, based on Bio's initial marketing "family resemblance" statement.... 'cause my Liliana (ie: Sarah) did not come from dad's loins.
A minor annoyance for sure. Still, I want to hold the studio to task for misleading marketing ( if no corrections are made). This mismatch held true for pre-launch MEA, with patch 1.05 and now with patch 1.06. Game publishers and dev studios got away with launching buggy / incomplete games in the past but today, even game magazines (besides players) are no longer accepting this s**t with the result that Bio MTL is now a support studio and MEA on ice.
A pity.

You're taking this very seriously. Alec's face is never seen again after leaving Habitat 7. The Sara/Scott #9 pairing was clearly an error from the beginning. I'm not sure what happened or why. The fact that this seems to be a popular scan (for making white women) makes it more problematic. Still, this is hardly a big enough deal to walk back marketing via an "official statement". The other pairings, and combinations of these, work very well.
If they were ever to add more scans, reassigning the #9 pair would make a lot of sense. I'm not a fan of Sara #9, but I used Scott #9 with Sara #7 for my current twins.

Basically it's true if you play as Scott. Sara never looks like dad at all, but Scott always does. Once again females were not considered I guess.
Yep! If you use preset 9 Sara and leave default Scott, dad will look like preset 9 Scott. Stupid eh?
