Yeah, exactly what the game needed. Turning a clunky but somewhat unique mechanics into cookie-cutter shooter stuff. Might have drawn in more players, but did not do the game much favours. Having no ammo to worry about was a unique selling point of ME's combat in my view. If I'm playing an RPG, I don't want to worry about ammo, especially if this guy who is funding my expeditions has supposedly infinite resources.

Huh? Where does the main story branch? How is "them bugs killin' humanz!!1" told by a human supremacist compelling? I have never met any of those colonists, except for that guy on Horizon. He was a jerk. And as soon as anything regarding Cerberus or TIMs pops up, the dialogue usually changes from "decent to excellent" spectrum to "utterly aisine", having Shepard behave like a mind-controlled dunce.
I guess the creators of this video are deeply routed in the ME2/Cerberus fanboy territory. As a standalone, ME2 works well, if you can get past the constant cutscene stupidity and railroading surrounding TIM and his gang - I can only do so barely, it is just so aggravating. As a part of a larger story, ME2 isn't that greatl, it essentially ends where ME already did, while having created even more plot holes as well as issues and threads that all had to be resolved in ME3.

Mileages vary. Railroading is a staple of the heroic literature Bio likes to rip off, so it's not clear that doing this is a conceptual problem for them. ME2's railroading was not particularly well-written, though.

I guess TIM lied and had Miranda plant a control chip afterall, because every dialogue with TIM feels like being mind-controlled, except perhaps for the final decision regarding the Collector base. But alas, you cannot make a point that while the base might be valauble, you don't trust TIM and therefore don't want him to have it, as he's most certainly causing a mess anyway, but this choice turned out to be rather meaningless.
Compare this type of railraoding to Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines attempts.
Sebastian LaCroix will, after his initial Uriah Gambit to get rid of the PC fails, again try to get us killed several times. You are free to disagree with him all the way you want. Not sucking up to him will make it impossilbe to side with him in the end, of course (and get blown to bits as well). When it comes to actually refusing his assignments, he will make use of the Dominate discipline (in-uniserves explanation), making it easily visible that the PC gets mind-controlled (3 times "I will go to the Elizabeht Dane" for dialogue options). Shepard on the other hand appears to agree with TIMs non-arguments and even worse, his "humanity over everything else by any means necessary" mindset without the player having any choice to even ask a bloody question most of the time. Also, in case of LaCroix, the PC at least gets some satisfation in the end. After you have acquired the McGuffin he's after and went to his penthouse with the intent to finish him off, he tries to dominate you into "Give me tha key!" one last time. It fails spectacularly, apperently even backfires, which for those used to the tabltop game rules is doubly satisfying as it would also mean that the PC is now immune to any of LaCroix dominate attemps - if I remember correctly.
TIMs end on the other hand again involves him ranting about "uplifting humanity #1", Shepard is still not allowed to question/argue much or just tell the butthole to go f*** himself and shoot his head off. TIMs ass-pulled Shepard control isn't explained in the slightest. Forcing Shepard to talk him to suicide, talk to him until finally getting an interrupt or receiving a non-standard game over feels more like TIM winning than anything else.
They surely played up the "hero, bloody icon" stereotype. Why? A possible very blunt guess would be the intention to pander to the hero worship power fantasies of some players, who on the other hand would take "orders" from everyone, no questions asked. It might even carry some unfortunate implication correlation - do writers want to promote the Cerberus mindset if they were willing to go to these great lengths to prevent the player from asking questions and expressing your stance on what is a pretty debateble minset? AKA does Bioware want to promote racism and science with zero ethics?
