It kinda goes back to original trilogy. Reapers groomed MW in certain way, so they would be dependent on Eezo, if it was the only way then why bother with shaping MW progress into certain tech tree? Besides our science already has two theoretic ways to bypass speed of light. Theories have a way of turning out to be BS. I'd be fine if eezo were the universe's sole trick for bypassing the speed-of-light barrier. Well, Alcubierre drive is one most of promising solutions we have, except the energy requirements. Of course it's their universe and they are free to set any physic laws in there, but don't you think it would be a bit unimaginative on their side? If they use eezo it gives us nothing new in the end, but different kind of FTL would probably give Kett another space economy and strategy, giving them different pros and cons. It's like making every species bipedal because "convergent evolution" and stuff. Realistic enough? Yeah. Interesting? Not so much.

I don't necessarily agree about FTL travel. The speed of light is a hard barrier. I'd not at all be disappointed to learn that the mass effect is the only way to bypass it. It kinda goes back to original trilogy. Reapers groomed MW in certain way, so they would be dependent on Eezo, if it was the only way then why bother with shaping MW progress into certain tech tree? Besides our science already has two theoretic ways to bypass speed of light. Didn't the Reapers simply refine the technological process all species eventually walked down? They provided the tools so as to make harvesting more productive. Without the technology, humanity would still be living on Earth. Asari might have only just began understanding the potential Mass Effect technology has. But eventually, they would get to where we see in the trilogy.

LightningPoodle: There's no reason to assume that's true. It's not like technology is some straight line that we're wandering along. Sovereign said that the Reapers left things so that we would develop along the lines they desired. Maybe we would have developed similar technology or maybe not but we only followed the path the Reapers lay out for us. I'm reading Mass Effect: Revelation right now and Jon Grissom pretty much says that humanity only has what they have because they're using what the protheans left behind. (They don't know about the Reapers yet.)

The more the better isn't relevant to them. They harvest them because they are advanced and dangerous enough to galaxy, by Starbrat's definition. It wouldn't hurt them to skip million years of harvest if nobody made it to Citadel, but if some species discovers FTL it better be FTL method Reapers expect.

Leviathan said that they witnessed countless species advance, create technology, create AI, and die at the hands of what they built. Repeatedly, this happened which stands to say that species will always develop in the same way. There will be variations of course, based on evolutionary reasons, history, et cetera, but all species eventually end up in the same place.
The Reapers were created to find an answer. Their answer was harvest before that happens, to keep the species alive in a Reaper construct. They sped it up by creating the technology that every species eventually got round to building. They laid it out so as to make the harvesting process easier, thereby more productive.
But it all goes back to this, every species is walking towards the same points - they just take different roads.

Repeatedly, this happened which stands to say that species will always develop in the same way. There will be variations of course, based on evolutionary reasons, history, et cetera, but all species eventually end up in the same place. ... While the creation of AI was probably repeated, it doesn't necessarily mean that other types of technology were the same, or indeed if the types of AI were the same. Not necessarily, no. However, we know that AI technology always led to the downfall of the species that created it. Leviathan said that, therefore it is true. The Geth are another example, though they don't have to bring the Quarians to extinction if you choose not to. There is nothing to say that other types of technology differed in drastic ways though, so it is up to speculation. What I have provided lends credence to it, but I might be wrong. When more evidence presents itself, I'll find out if I am wrong or not.

It's like making every species bipedal because "convergent evolution" and stuff. Realistic enough? Yeah. Interesting? Not so much. I'm looking forward to seeing new technologies in Andromeda, or rather hoping to see some. I'm not overly optimistic that there will be a great variety on display. FTL travel is so "out there", already, that I'm not sure I want to see a variety of solutions for it. Also, the IP is built upon the mass effect. I think the mass effect being the universe's singular solution to the FTL-barrier would be very fitting. This doesn't mean that other technologies, and every application of the mass effect, need be the same. The reapers did things one way. I'd not expect it to be done the exact same way 2.5M LY away in Andromeda. That would be boring. I want variety, but I don't really want so much variety that the IP's soul is diluted. I'm not sure where that line lies, and I'm not even saying that FTL constitutes that line. It's just one thought I had. I'm pretty sure I argued the exact opposite in another thread a couple of weeks ago.
