Oh, for goodness sake. Iβll say it again and donβt give a fuck about who gets offended or angry: Anyone who hunts and kills defenseless and innocent animals should be shot and tortured, hell, they should try to be hunted and killed themselves like that so they can experience what thatβs like. Shitty thread is shitty thread/ My mother was chased and nearly killed by a pack of feral dogs, if that counts. -- On a general note, if anyone else is somehow getting the idea that this thread is about hunting in particular, then I'd advise them that they're also mistaken. Hunting is a facet of survival discussion for some people, but the intent of this thread was more focused on more varied problems. How to identify edible plants, how best to survive a rip tide or a plunging elevator (lay flat on your back, for the record), or how to make useful knot are all appropriate topics in this thread. Hardly villainy, unless someone is determined to perceive it as such.

Itβs shitty because all people talk about on this thread, is basically advice or encouragement in regards to killing animals. And sure, I canβt do shit about people like that but I can hate and despise them as much as I like yes. Anyways, I said my peace, carry on. It's either hunt and kill or resort to cannibalism. Theoretically speaking, anyway. If for some reason all BSNers are in a bunker to survive the nuclear holocaust, and you refuse to eat hunted animals, should we cannibalize you? If so, I have dibs on your upper arms. Okay, no talking about cannibalism or eating other posters please. I mean, I can't actually enforce this as a rule, but, please?

Most emergencies, even the minor ones, can be solved by eating people. Best way to survive a plunging elevator? Eat the people inside and dampen the fall with your bloated belly. Best way to survive a civil war-like situation? Eat all the people of your least favorite side until there is peace. Best way to deal with armed attackers when you are unarmed? Swallow them whole. Etc. Heck, I even solve most of my every day problems that way!

Greenhouses would require too much resources to make and would be indefensible at the scale required. Underground grow labs would require too much fuel unless we had a nuclear reactor.

You can make a very effective little greenhouse from readily available trash (five sturdy sticks and a large plastic canvas) in under 15 minutes.
But in case of nuclear fallout going underground is the only option as the soil itself and the water would become heavily polluted. But without top notch equipment you are dead from radiation sickness before you'd starve so thats a non issue.

Well nobody ever said that survival is an easy business. Its absolutely possible, greenhouses are nothing more than vegetable patches covered with a blanket and people have bunched together for protection since forever. Remember that in this world one man alone is nothing, in a true survival scenario being on your own is basically a death sentence unless you are some mad hyper tough turbo hermit with loads of experience. Like good old Uncle Istvan:

The thing is, I see no sufficient reason to stop eating meat completely, even of animals who are hunted rather than livestock, so it would be hypocritical of me to object to those who hunt those animals getting some enjoyment out of their work, wouldn't it? I would agree in principle, if not to your fairly extreme suggested measures, if it's about hunting purely for sport. And in a survival situation all bets are off anyway. It's hard enough in such situations to not contribute to the erosion of civilized behaviour among humans, and likely there are no resources to spare for other considerations. Animal rights are a luxury you will most likely not be able to afford then.

Animal rights are a luxury you will most likely not be able to afford then. About not eating meat at all, thatβs my own thing, I never expected or demanded anyone else to do the same, I even prepare high gourmet meat to my dogs every single day, people not eating meat is only doable in a perfect rosy world which will never exist. And about hunting, I stand where I stand, Iβll NEVER change my mind on that. Hunting is wrong in MY opinion no MATTER the reason. Iβd rather starve than kill an animal, survival or no survival. People are different, we are wired in a different way, some enjoy killing innocent living beings, I donβt. And like I mentioned in my previous posts, I know Iβm in the minority here but that doesnβt matter to me, Iβm not an animal lover to get praise or to get βlikesβ from people. Iβve rescued hundreds of dogs from the street with my family and I never did it to get praise and I was never in the illusion that most people were kind towards animals, on the contrary, people are the worst beings on this earth and they will use any excuse possibly to hurt and kill.

And about hunting, I stand where I stand, Iβll NEVER change my mind on that. Hunting is wrong in MY opinion no MATTER the reason. Iβd rather starve than kill an animal, survival or no survival. You'd change your mind in a survival station. Here in relative safety and comfort of civilization we can have all weird luxury ideals because it does not hurt us, but boy, history showed us that starving people are different people. When the plane crashed in the Andes, most survivors were devote Christians (south America in the 70's). When they ran out of food and people started to die they were so desperate they cut up corpses and ate them even though, for them, it was one of the greatest sins. When you are starving all your ideals fly out the window. You can say that you'd never do that but starving is an extremely agonizing death no one is willing to die as long he or she has other options. Same with the people that say they'd never touch a gun, when pressed into the right circumstances they did. Guess its a genetics thing, all the people that did indeed stick to their believes and chose death over betraying their funny little ideals perished long ago, they (thankfully) did not pass on their genes because they were unwilling to survive.
