My husband's dwarf, Duran Duran Aeducan went with Oghren, Shale, and Morrigan to the Deep Roads. He ultimately sided with Caridan and destroyed the anvil. Awwwww. Duran is a traditional dwarf who takes Bhelen's treachery seriously, so Harrowmount is going to get the crown. Husbands so much closer to finishing! Yes! He still has Awakening and Witch Hunt to do (he romanced Morrigan). Then I can't finally see who he'll end up with in DA2. It's between Fenris and Merrill for him. He refuses Anders and Isabella outright. Duran Duran Aeducan? Is he a 'Wild Boy'? Sorry couldn't resist

Hello all, first time posting in these forums. I have finally started a proper playthrough of DAI. I have it on Xbox One through the EA Vault. Playing through as a Dalish male mage and have made it passed Val Royeaux and at present my character is back at the war room. He's just starting to find some gear too and build up a little on the skill trees to make his development all the more engrossing. Haven't played today and won't be able to and I'm having withdrawals. After a number of short lived fits and starts trying to get into this game in the past, for some reason (maybe because MEA isn't far away), I have decided to give this a proper go and to my surprise I'm really enjoying it. Previously I got warn out in the first area doing countless tasks and I think I got worried the game was going to take too long to move me to a new area. I didn't realise going back to the war room opened up new locations. My corrected oversight has given this game new life. I've also just found two new recruits for my crew, I can't remember their names, I think they are Sera the elf Rogue and the beautiful dark skinned mage who invites you to her party after visiting Val Royeaux. Already like both and their addition has created a bit of a struggle to know who to kick out of my team to bring them in. I quite like Solas but he'll be relieved along with the little hairy dwarf guy with his crossbow Bianca. As you can tell I'm not the best with the specifics of names yet but I'm so pleased that DAI has not been lost to me. It's really encouraging reading the forums and learning how big the game is. My main task is to complete the core storyline and flesh out my characters enough before Mass Effect Andromeda comes out. I'll probably make a few more contributions on here to mark my progress. Cheers all and peace. Welcome to the board. Glad to see, you enjoy DAI. Is this your first Dragon Age game? If so, you should consider playing the first two too, because they are fun and you learn more about the world. The dwarf with the crossbow (Varric) is a companion in DA2 too. I would recommend to change companions occasionally - they are all good, so you don't have to fear to weaken your party, plus they have very interesting banter with each otehr and it really pays off, to have different companions with you from time to time. Glad you like Vivienne (the dark skinned mage). Many players don't like her that much, but I love her Have fun with DAI and don't hestitate to ask, if you need help. I have played DAO and just absolutely loved it. That was and still is a very special game to me. I remember how I kind be of stumbled onto DAO. I'm sure it released close to one of the Call of Duty games, I think COD MODERN Warfare 2. I bought the COD game and in the single player campaign there is a mission called No Russian where you join a terrorist faction and deliberately walk through an airport gunning civilians down. I was so appalled by its inclusion that I returned the game and swapped it upon a whim for DAO. It was such a strike of fortune. I went into DAO with little expectation and I was staggered by my find. I recently re-purchased it on Steam but an issue with my laptop has barred me from continuing my playthrough. This has nevertheless given me more time with DAI. When it comes to fantasy RPGs I'm always drawn to the mage class. I was a female elf Mage in DAO because I wanted to develop a character I thought would most likely be at the bottom end of the social hierarchy of the DAO game world. I made her a fiesty survivor type who has had to think of herself first because of the imaginary rough start to life I'd conjured for her. I so utterly connected with this character I'd created and it was the first time I'd ever tried to enter into some kind of deeper role playing in a game other than just seeing the avatar on screen as a blank extension for me to interact with the game. No, my female elf Mage wasn't an extension of myself, she was actually nothing like me, and so at times it was a struggle to keep her consistent with her attitudes, responses to the game in a way that wasn't how I'd personally choose to respond to a situation. As I'm more of the paragon type as typified by the ME series it was really fun to create a character that was something different and the creation was all the more empowered because of the back story I'd given my character. I put some time into imagining who this character was and what the unfolding events meant for her and forced myself to be consistent with this as the game went on. I still haven't been able to recreate as fun a character in any game as I did in that first playthrough of DAO. Though the dude I'm playing as in DAI I quite like a lot. I'm sure this helps make any rpg playthrough that much more appealing when you create a character you just really like and start to bond with as you play the game.

*heavy sigh* Went to Exalted Plains, arrived at elven graveyard. Sera; bunch of holes for elfy glory, heh heh. ... I think I'll go play Dishonored II where Emily's dishonor is brought about by her youth, at the weight of duty that rested on her when she was too young, the failure to realise she could not leave the reins of the empire in the hands of her retainers, her failure to understand how her people were faring. Her journeys opened her world view and she learned. Sera's dishonor is refusing to countenance what she is, who she is, the world she lived in. Makes me realize I have hardly taken Sera anywhere elfy. I really liked Sera in Trespasser. She was the only one to ask how I was holding up, considering my religion was a bit in tatters. She does some growing there. For me, she'd have to do better than that question. I have to say I can't wait to finish this PT because I want to be done with her and move on to the next.

Manga chars never crossed my mind when I look at DA II elves. I read manga btw, a few. I thought their brow and nose structure interesting, a departure from the human form / profile. I think they tried to keep this in the DAI elven CC. I've read some mangas a long time ago, and tehre were elves, that looked a bit like those in DA2, tehy had longer ears though. But I'm no manga expert, so I don't know, if those elves were typical for manga elves, the DA2 elves just reminded me of them (and sadly I don't rememebr the name of the mangas. It was a series and it was not bad for someone who normally doesn't read mangas) I have not run into manga with elf like chars, I think. No, wait, there was one with a elf like char but that's because he has pointed ears. Otherwise, he's human looking. I'm not a fan of long ears like a donkey's. They look ridiculous. I cannot say if you would enjoy it. For me, I do because I like stealth gameplay. As supernatural powers are involved, there're several ways for the player to decide / plan how to go against mobs and move about the map. As I do not like to kill unnecessarily, not even for the fun of it in games (it's all pretend, most would say. RP you're a cold blooded monarch), it's a challenge. They have made a few improvements to the game so you're going to reap the benefits: * Bonecharms can now be carried over to another PT. Bonecharms are crafted. The best is a four trait bonecharm without any corruption. * Corvo's and Emily's supernatural skills can now be crossed over. Meaning if you play Emily, you could use Corvo's skills as well. That was the last update that I read but have not tried yet. I'm not sure if both chars have to be played at least once in order to activate it. * They have implemented game difficulty. Gameplay depends on the choice you will have to make in the beginning. If you do not accept the Outsider's offer, you play without supernatural skills. I tried this once and found it difficult. Along with the skills, you can use equipment but you have to buy them with the money looted or gear picked up along the way. The gold is not enough to sustain the perpetual use of equipment which means that if you go on this route, you're choosing to play a blood letting PT. Outright confrontation, no going around. If you play Dishonored II, play both chars at least once. Jessamine have different things to say to her lover and daughter. Both chars also offer different viewpoints. Solas, tact? Try sleeping for several hundred years, thinking you have saved the People and wake up finding you have done the opposite. You wouldn't be in any mood for tact. This is why I admire Solas for his control / will. I'm pretty sure he has despaired, felt depression, etc but he managed to re-direct it into action which he hoped would repair his error rather than moped about eternally. I doubt I would be liking Sera. I tolerate her, treating her as a child with a flapping tongue who wants to do good but has yet to learn that there is more to the pond she is swimming in. I pretend her words are like the farts she likes to let off. * I flirted with Solas, kissed him at fade haven but chose to break it off. I can't help but find it amusing when she pointed out that he started it first. Anyway, saved his friend at EP and had the dialogue when he returned to Skyhold. I'm a little confused he didn't finish with the typical thank you. He ended with ; You mattered. erm, ok. I can't recall whether he said this too to the Inq that romanced him previously.

Truth be told, unless you metagame, who, besides the Dwarf Commoner, would choose Behlen? All the quests Behlen sends you on involve treachery. The only pro-Behlen information an outsider can find is the one merchant who insists Behlen is better for business by opening Orzammar to more trade with the surface. And yes, Duran Duran is funny! (And anyone who can see through that weasel Anders is an upstanding guy in my book! )

(And anyone who can see through that weasel Anders is an upstanding guy in my book! ) I was once playing a Dalish Elf who is super new to the world. Keepers are mostly an inherited thing, so he understood that method of Leadership passing and so gave the crown to Bhelen. He wasn't dumb but the politics in Orzamaar were way over his head. That's a non metagame way. I think there is a hilarious comic strip about an Aeducan giving Bhelen the crown. Huge speech about Bhelen's crimes, all seriousness, then a big smile and a bounce to smack the crown on Bhelen's head.

The only pro-Behlen information an outsider can find is the one merchant who insists Behlen is better for business by opening Orzammar to more trade with the surface. There are a couple reasons I can think of. If you have Zevran with you when meeting their seconds, he'll point out how wishy-washy Harrowmont seems. For a Warden who wants strong allies, Bhelen does present himself as the better choice. Also, while I haven't actually played an Aeducan yet myself, I can think of at least one reason, based on hearsay, to side with him despite everything else: Doesn't Harrowmont strip you're son's caste, since you yourself are a surfacer? Bhelen actually allows him to be brought into the family, from what I recall. Plus, while an Aeducan is not an "outsider", if headcanon presents that your character knew the sort of political views Bhelen held, it's not unthinkable that s/he might agree with them. If/when I ever do play my planned Aeducan, I'd intended to put Bhelen on the throne in a sort of "I respect you, but I'll never forgive you" sort of way. Granted, that's still just a plan on my part, since I don't know how much of an ass Bhelen is or isn't when you get back to Orzammar. My biggest hangup is that I really hate not playing Rogues, but Aeducan just feels like s/he "should" be a Warrior.

(And anyone who can see through that weasel Anders is an upstanding guy in my book! ) Easy. Maybe Aeducan acknowledges that Bhelen is simply a better player of the game; that if you were so easily outplayed, you'd have been done in by Orzammar politics by someone else sooner or later if you'd gone on to become king/queen. Or it's entirely possible for Aeducan to kill Trian themselves, in which case they might ultimately hold themselves accountable for his death rather than Bhelen. Maybe Warden Aeducan feels that the most important thing is having an Aeducan on the throne. Maybe they were a classist noble arse and have been humbled by their experience, and now have some understanding of the casteless plight, making them more sympathetic to Bhelen's policies. Maybe they're a troll and want to make Bhelen shit himself before handing him the crown. Maybe they want Bhelen to OWE them his throne. Or maybe Bhelen gets to be king, but Warden Aeducan becomes a Paragon so who cares about your brother's (who btw is not a living ancestor!!1) petty scheming? Or for surface Wardens, you can simply not look too closely at Bhelen's schemes - you want someone on the throne ASAP to affirm those treaties and you don't give a fuck who it is.

Played some more DA I and set foot in my second most beautiful place. Because the most beautiful place is yet to come and is sadly part of a main quest. I just love the Emerald Graves it's breathtaking beautiful there. Closed some rifts and killed that bear in the picture as part of a side quest. I also killed a few giants and i had to be careful not to draw in to many Bronto's.

What do you consider to be the most beautiful place? For me, it has to be the Hissing Wastes. The whole nighttime vibe is just awesome, despite the map being pretty much empty. Still love it. I like the Emerald Graves quite a lot, too, but that area with the 7354943 giants (maybe I exaggerate a bit here) and brontos is terrible. I try to avoid it as best as I can, because I can't kill just one giant, no, there always have to add at least one more of those and two or more brontos, who are effing annoying with their charging and guard and whatnot.

The most beautiful place at least to me is the first part of the Arbor Wilds ( part of What Pride Had Wrought ) that place is just sooooo breathtaking beautiful. It will take me at least 2 hours before i go through that long corridor where the next part of the quest starts. But yes i love the Hissing Waste to very much and also what you say the "nighttime vibe" yeah beautiful. But if i had to choose between the two i would choose the Emerald Graves. You think haha 7354943 giants that is uh quite a lot of Giants Aneira haha. Yes the Brontos can be quite annoying when you only want to fight a Giant. If i can i lure those Giants as much as possible away from those Brontos but that does not happen all the time.

I've noticed that if you get to EG giant territory a little earlier in the game (say, lvl 16-17) the giants are much easier to kill. They level with you and are only lvl 19 (or higher, with Even Ground active) if you are.

Revel took a sip of his ale, and cringed. You did not go to the Hanged Man to savor fine vintages, and the aftertaste of the noxious gas he’d inhaled earlier in the day did nothing for the bouquet. His drinking buddy, Guardsman Donnic, leaned across the table.
“Look, Revel, thanks for the drinks, but I’m going to call it a night. And a piece of advice. If you want to get it on with Aveline, just talk to her. Who need a go in between? It’s just crazy.”
“Uh-huh,” Revel said with a sage nod and watched Donnic leave the tavern. He did not move an inch, waiting for Aveline to stride to his side from the dark corner she lurked in all night.
“The silver lining,” Revel told her in a way of a greeting, “is that now Donnic thinks, that I am trying to use him to get to you. Perhaps this perceived rivalry will make him notice you. As good a plan as any you’ve had so far.”
The love-sick Captain of the Guard blushed in the devastating manner the redheads do. Instead of running right after Donnic, as Revel thought she might, Aveline started talking about the patrols and how it’s hard to get a tête-à-tête while fighting bandits. Revel took the hint. “All right, Aveline, I will clear the bandits on your route, so you have a nature backdrop and nothing to do but talk about your feelings. Unless you are into bird-watching.”
Aveline rose to leave, and when he made no sign of vacating his chair, gave him a quizzical look: “Staying, Revel?”
Revel nodded towards the bar, where a loud group of patrons was celebrating something. “Have a business proposition to discuss.”
Aveline sighed: “You are back at it, Revel. Well, I better go before I have to restrain you in the name of the law.”
Revel gave her a few moment to clear the scene, signaled to his men scattered around the tavern to stay sharp, then crossed to the bar and tapped a huge red-haired man on the shoulder (two red-heads in a night, was he lucky, or what?). “Tell me who hired you to dispatch the Quinary embassy, friend,” Revel said quietly, “and nobody needs to get hurt.”
Alas, the burly man had his own ideas, and Revel had to hurt him some to get the story… not much of a story, but a troubling one. Another anti-Quinary provocation, and this one leading to the Chantry's high and mighty… he had his hands full. Again.
Instead of feeling bone tired, Revel felt energized. His day started before dawn, confronting a n Orlesian blood mage over a score of matron murders; he chased down a dwarf who was by a decoy for a crazed elf, and then he fought the said elf amidst the poisonous fumes. To top it up, he had to chit-chat with Quinary about it, which never fails to make a man’s head hurt. As the night was falling, he’d done some sanguine inquiries after the murders, and ended up playing a part in the most bizarre courtship he’d ever witnessed.
But the night was young. Revel caught Ander’s pleading gaze. Pretty eyes. “Anders, seems to me the hour is dark enough to see about those Templars unlawfully invoking the Right of Tranquility. Unless you need to catch some sleep?” Anders shook his head in a “no”. If anything, the mage looked more awake than he’d felt. Might be the fumes had a secondary effect… might be he’ll never sleep again.
Revel grinned. Yes, Aveline, I am back.

@domi I'm so glad you like Dragon Age 2. Possibly the best companion writing of the 3.

@patricia
I also agree that the Arbor Wilds is the most beautiful place. It's too bad we can't go back to visit.
I'm also rather fond of the Frostback Basin. Just wish I could walk along the river without running into constant spiders. But the beach is quite lovely ^^

@domi I'm so glad you like Dragon Age 2. Possibly the best companion writing of the 3. :) TBH, I like the quest writing more than the companions, the short stories with interesting characters, much like in Mass Effect. I like the pace of the quests, and both the Quinari and the dwarves characterization. Elves are still on the weaker side. Companions, on the whole, I liked the most in the Awakening. Fighting is boring, I wish we had to at least Lmb/rmb bFor auto attacks, but fighting animations are pretty on the rogue.

I played with my rogue Aylin for a while - I really love her. I think, I will do the Cullen romance with her (I started that romance once with a human mage, but I accidently erased that playthrough and it was only the first lovescene so far, so Cullen is one of the romances, I didn't do yet) - I like how she is a carefree wild thing and he is always so careful and full of worries - they can learn a lot from each other. She went to Redcliffe to see, what Fiona has to offer and found a nasty Tevinter surprise. But first, she met Connor and gave him some advice (not the niecest thing to say, but then, she is as tactful as Solas, I guess. And she hasn't the excuse of having slept for millenias and missed all the interesting stuff ) Felix gets 'sick' (I so loved that character, if I could have saved him, I would) The gang meets Felix and Dorian in the church Aylin is amused by Dorians jokes

How can an Aeducan do otherwise? Bhelen is responsible for murdering Trian and framing middle brother for the crime! Wishy-washiness aside, what else would a non-dwarf Warden see in Orzammar but the non-stop sleaziness of Behlen's team? Behlen's intermediary just oozes slime! And if you don't get beyond that intermediary, there's no chance that your Warden will meet Behlen and hear him make his case. Perhaps it's just the goody-goody, "play by the rules" mindset that tends to permeate my PCs, but it would be interesting to find out what choice most first-time Origins gamers make assuming no walk-through guide or any knowledge of optimal outcomes. The situation you mention in the spoiler might indicate a situation where an Aeducan Warden would reluctantly support evil little brother. It should be interesting how that pans out once you have a chance to play the noble dwarf Origin. As to an Aeducan being more a warrior rather than rogue, you actually may be on to something. There is a warrior caste in dwarven society. Does that include both warriors and rogues or just warriors? It may be that rogues/archers are drawn from commoners. Any dwarven specialists know for sure?

@domi I'm so glad you like Dragon Age 2. Possibly the best companion writing of the 3. DA2 does have a more personal, "gritty" feel to it. Perhaps because it takes place almost wholly in one large city. It would be interesting to see what a game centered in Val Royeux would be like? You'd definitely get a feel for "the Game!"

There is a warrior caste in dwarven society. Does that include both warriors and rogues or just warriors? It may be that rogues/archers are drawn from commoners. Any dwarven specialists know for sure? Technically, rogues are skillful figthers too, but I don't knowfor sure. I only know, that my Aeducan dual wielding rogue was treated like a warrior. About Bhelen: When I first played DAO, I was a dalish elf. She didn't like any of the intermediaries, but decided, that being unpleasent is part of their job description. What lets her decide for Bhelen was her meeting his mistress (the sister of the castless dwarf origin, which I discovered later) and she did speak highly of Bhelen. Plus he himself didn't make a bad impression (nor did Harrowmond), he had some ideas, that didn't sound bad. So basically, my Dalish took a shot and it turned out to be a good decision. Next time, I played a human mage and made Harrowmont king and didn't liek that outcome. I never played an Aeducan more than the origin story (I like the casteless dwarf way better), but I can't think of a reason to support Bhelen, I mean, no one can know, that Harrowmond would be that terrible for Orzammar. I played a female dwarf so the reason from Lazarillos spoiler would not apply to her - and that is really the only reason, I could think for supporting Bhelen as an Aeducan. I don't know about the rogues, sorry. But I guess, it is just a different way to fight, so maybe, they can still be in the warrior caste, but that is just my personal guess, I'm not that much of a dwarven expert.

DA2 companions and Hawke is my favorites, but personally I hate the "Game", I prefer more direct solutions. I don't like Val Royeaux : too fancy. Kirkwall is much nicer: monumental, but cleaner design.
