On my elven mage, Vhaelon, I completed the last mosaics and found the last bottle of booze. Only need to collect one song to have done all Collections quests.Just now I'm starting on the Descent, as last thing before cory. At lvl 27. That first ogre took aaaaages to kill. And my weapons are all pretty top notch, if I do say so myself. This might take a while.. Ugh! Respect! I never ever would be able to do this!

Exploring the Deep Roads, taking my time about it to. Its my favorite part of Inquisition. The engineer who designed this accident waiting to happen is going to be hung from their balls. Inky doesn't like to take the deep plunge when she isn't paying attention.

I'm hoping the last song is the Samson one, but I think it starts playing before the fight against him in the temple, so I might not bother finishing that.

It is not about creating sympathizers, it's about creating a revolutionary situation and destroying powerful symbology. Anders is ahead of his time with his tactics. The individual anarchists acts like that are viewed as a lesser evil as a backlash against the horrors of the French Revolution, and were something that occurred a lot in the late 18th to early 20th century, before turning back to the mass uprisings. It's important to remove the grand cleric, that maintains the reactionary status quo and gives legitimacy to the old, unacceptable order of things. Just like the rebels in Star Wars movie do not want and regret destroying millions of slaves and workers the empire uses to build the Death Star 2 along with the Death Star, Andes regrets the loss of life that occurs as a result of his provocation. As it is not the intended target, just the building itself and the Grand Cleric, they are casualties of war in his mind. That's how I view the situation, so my impartial pc will execute Anders. But his lover... no. The problem with applying the revolutionary paradigm here is that the mages represent not a disgruntled proletariat but a small, greatly feared minority. Further, it doesn't help that they have the negative example of the Tevinter Imperium where mages rule and where non-mages, at best, are second class citizens or, at worst, slaves. (Paging Fenris...) That said, revolutionary acts - or rather the acts of anarchists who precede serious revolutionaries - may be more emotional rather than rational. And since Hawke comes from an apostate family, it's conceivable that Hawke would follow Anders' lead. (Though, ironically, with a non-mage Hawke, the only mage left in the family - Bethany - would definitely disapprove of Anders' actions.) I agree, and that is why I say that Anders is anochronistic to the setting in both his thinking and his means. We have a far too idealized setting for an actual class emergence as is more realistic; da world is not really anchored in realism. Anders is a part of a small sublayer somewhat similar to intelligentsia, and he acts on its behalf, or perhaps perceives the oppression as a wider phenomenon. He also does embody the disillusionment with changing the public opinion and bloodless revolutions that was tipical of the second half of the nineteenth century. No matter how benign Anders is himself, the chantry is not going to be moved to another approach to the mages. Anyway, it's interesting stuff. And, I am sort of playing around with my Mage protagonist, Blaze, basically doing every quest I can with Aveline, Carver and Merrill, before initiating a dialogue with Varrick that will lead to recruiting Anders and Fenris/Leto. I use mostly the red options trying to create an air of a selfish, capricious girl. So far, I have a rivalry almost finished with Carver, and Aveline has disapproved of her a couple of times. Hoping to get to the point of meeting the angst cocktail tonight. Heh, the game is a touch painful on the crappy laptop, but so far so good.

My hopes for a glitch free Trespasser is not happening. I fired up the game just now and found all my custom settings returned to default. I have no idea why this happened when I didn't do anything moddy with the game. Now the second eluvian pass is glitched. P.S. Definitely something screwy is going on. I kept at it and the second pass went off, the party selection came up. But then, combat roll behaved really weirdly. Up until now, when I hit combat roll, the Inq will just roll forward. But now ... the game pause and I get a directional arrow to tell the Inq where to roll??!! What's going on? ! I've had that settings re-set happen numerous times - so annoying! And I've never been able to pinpoint a cause. Game works fine when I shut it down for the night, next day I load up and everything is back to default. Sounds like the re-set may have turned on hints?

It's the first time that it happened. It may have been Origins. I think I know why, I'll have to reinstall it or repair it. Not certain if it's hints, it could be tactical. I'll find out.

Just in case you aren't already using this: bsn.boards.net/thread/787/complete-collection-list-locations?page=1&scrollTo=281692I've been using this thread to put the mosaics together. The bottles of Thedas not so much. As to the songs, are these all songs Maryden actually sings? I don't ever recall her singing about Samson, but then again, I never went out of my way to find it.

Some of the songs she sings, like Samson and Grey Warden, which unlock after you finish their quests, but others are just codex entries. Also note there are more song lyrics to find than you need for the quest, 2 or 3 more at least.
Some examples of ones that count but are not sung by Maryden: Andraste's Mabari, which is posted in Haven; the Chargers song, which unlocks after you meet them all and they sing in the tavern; and The Girl in Red Crossing, which is found in Chataeu d'Onterre.

Isn't there a song scroll to be picked up at Therinfall Redoubt, just before the boss fight? I have no idea if that scroll appears anywhere else. I always get all the bottles and mosiacs; I can collect them with eyes closed. The only items that are not complete, if I'm not mistaken, are notes / letters or something to do with those.

There are also codex entries about some songs around a dowager in Orlais

There's a vendor in Val Royeaux who sells any and all missable codex entries that you fail to collect, for whatever reason. So you can purchase the Samson song from him (if you want Templars) or the CotJ song (if you went Mages).

Speaking of missing things after having just finished Trespasser, I only today found out (thanks, my trusty Internet) about a hidden area in the Qunari Deep Roads mines that introduces a very interesting codex entry. Honestly, that thing is nigh impossible to find without knowing about it beforehand.

It's a pity not all of the songs are performed one way or another. "Andraste's Mabari" seems like something tavern drunks would sing (an encore performance by the Chargers perhaps?); when I first read "The Girl in Red Crossing," I immediately started thinking of Edgar Allen Poe's poetry! They should've had that one recited or sung by a male bard. Oh well...

On my second playthrough, I find that I correct myself based on my first game's experiences, and do more metagaming.
So, first of all I have finished all of the recruitment missions, and some of the smaller sidequests as I have run across, like the Shadow Thieves assignments (not sure what they are called, actually, but one of the two factions that smuggled you into the city).
I try to play with Carver almost non-stop, because I know I won't have a chance later.
I also purposely pick different quest solutions than the first time around, and the Magistrates son one really felt uncomfortable to me to let him go.
I did recruit Isabela this time. Functionally, she is a very good character, but I do find her, and the other companions' reactions to her irritating. But the team composition of Carver, Fenris and her was pretty neat. I also keep being frustrated because as a Mage my outfits are not great, while she wears that crazy stuff... overall, I did like the rogue pc better, but I don't mind building a powerful Mage.
I have seen a nice variety of new banters, my favorite ones being between Carver and Merrill. So, I am going to rotate through the rest of the companions to see their content with Isabela and Carver before heading into the Deep Roads.
Not sure yet if I stay with the game for the entire playthrough. My first run was more exciting.

I played with RIya a bit more. She finished Here lies the Abyss and left Stroud in the Fade (that was hard, I like him), Hawke went to Weisshaupt, probably meeting up with Fenris along the way, and Varric wrote some letters. Riya found finally the time to talk to Morrigan, who showed her the Eluvhian. And I was considering to give Riya new, longer hair, to mark the passing time - what do you think? Riya with her normal hair: Riya with the hair, I consider giving her (this was just a test): And some more Fade and Eluvhian: Right before the jump into the fade Wibbly wobbly timey whimey (little Doctor Who reference) The cool girls Little Riya in Wonderland

Anyways. I started Awakening a few minutes ago.

Changing the hair makes her look too different. Maybe make a change for Trespasser since much more time will have passed. Perhap grey her hair for Trespasser.

After much deliberation I have chosen to work with the Templars over the Mages. As I write my party has just arrived at Therinfal Redoubt. We are gathered on the stone bridge before the gate.
We have been to a number of places since I last contributed on this forum.
We found the vault of Valammar and ran through all against us there. Were the Dark Spawn among them? I think they were?? Valammar was an extraordinary place. We did not want to leave. My only regret was not having Varric along for the experience. Nevertheless we found a piece of his writing in the Vault and it was so interesting to learn a tiny bit about the caste system and the invisible trade network.
Next we buzzed off to the Forbidden Oasis. I changed the party and stacked it with Mages (if only to give some of the others a turn out in field) Solas and Vivienne wielded their staves alongside me and Cassandra was the two handed protection up front. As a three pronged team of Mages we wiped out the land. We seemed to spend a long time in such a small place and we were glad to leave after we went as far as we could with the shards we had. The shards!! No more for a while please!!
As it is, my Mage (Duds Barnham, yeah I feel bad for calling him this but it was at a time when I was a little doubtful that I would ever really get into this game this much!!) is level 11 primarily trained in Storm and Spirit.
I have grown to travel with Sera, Blackwell and Cassandra. I really like Solas but find it hard busting up my main gang to fit the others in. Varric hasn't had a look in since early game. This team has become robust and wrecks stuff quickly without taking much damage in return.
As I go I realise that my character (Duds Barnham) is the kind of Elf who really doesn't know much about the politics and the names in his world. He has been caught up in an event that has thrust him from obscurity and the personal parameters of the minutiae of his own life onto a large, large stage...And the small time-ness of his life pre explosion still goes with him as the Inquisition grows. He is a creature fast having to adapt to the call upon his post explosion life. He is discovering the vast clock work mechanics that have been in play whilst he has been living doing other things. Now he has to participate in a way that makes him very aware of the vastness of the machine and it also at times makes him feel like he really doesn't know much at all yet one quest after another and a little reading here and a conversation there and he is starting to feel not so much a complete stranger to the events nor a complete intruder to the task.
Back to the present, I don't know what to expect at Therinfal Redoubt. I feel slightly annoyed that I couldn't trust the Mages because of big head Alexius stuffing everything up. Also, I think Duds Barnham has a bit of a thing for Lelianna and it sounds like she's put in a lot of work with the noble families behind the scenes to set things up favorably with the Templars. Duds Barnham didn't want to put Lelianna out too much by going in the other direction with the Mages. I don't think he has any chance with her as I don't think blokes are her thing...but... How would I know and if old Duds wants at crack a Lelianna then I won't get in the way.
Ok, time to pick up the controller and head across this stone bridge and through these gates...

Mike, are you going through it the first time or replaying? replaying Ah, okay, I guess I am indeed the very last to the table at the moment. Have fun! To be honest, my determination to replay DA 2 is flagging. The big attraction first time through was the Fenris vs Anders, and now it's set... well, am I really playing for 30 hours to get one cutscenes with Fenris in Act 3? on the first playthrough, I did not even notice area reuse, now I wish that outdoor areas were more diverse. I actually like running around the same city feel, but a bit more variety in the countryside would have been welcome. And, yes, my first character, Revel, looked so awesome. I might drop the whole fire portion of Blaze appearance, and remake her face to the Oriental Dangerous type I prefer. Still, those drab robes... seriously, every npc Mage ever in every game used their robes to look exotic and cool, in the glory of crimsons, gold, purples and blacks, and my Hawke wears mousy grey sweats? Does mage versions of Last Desent, ensular, and Champion look okay?

I sense Inquisition is your first DA game? (It was the first DA game for me.) There were two games before it: Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2. Be sure to read the codex entries because many of them will refer to things that occurred in the earlier games. If you have any DA world questions to ask (as opposed to plot spoilers), feel free to ask. Just to give you a little background, Leliana was a companion character in the first game. She made a cameo appearance in DA2 and is an important NPC adviser in Inquisition. Cullen has been a noteworthy NPC in all three games. Of your playable companions, Varric was a playable companion in DA2. Cassandra was an NPC, sort of, in DA2. All the other characters are new. Be sure to chat with all your companions when you're back in Haven, you learn interesting stuff. Varric will tell you about key events in DA2, things which are still pertinent in Inquisition. Note that the PC background chose is for a Dalish elf while Sera is a "City Elf." Have fun! I hope I haven't confused you...

Thanks Deadly Dwarf! I appreciate it. I have played DAOand got a fair way through but never completed it back when it came out. I restarted it last year on my lap top and my lap top encountered a problem that prevented me from continuing.
I tried DA2 but found it difficult to connect with. I was fearing the same with DAI as I've started this game over many times but got fed up with the Hinterlands until this play through where I figured out the benefits of the war room.
ATM, I am in love with this game!! I've just raised Haven to the ground saving my neck against the Elder One. Or was it the Ender One?? I'm glad I went with the Templars but I'm kicking myself a little because I decided to make them free allies and I'm questioning the wisdom of that.
I've said it before on here but I'm so glad DAI has not been lost on me.
I didn't realise/can't remember Leliana from DAO nor the appearance of the other characters so thanks for informing me.
I need to stop playing because it's 2:30am where I am. I'll be back on tomorrow afternoon/evening. This is such a top shelf adventure.
I'll hold off on any type of review till after my play through but I loved the line Corpheus just bleated whilst soap boxing in the company of his pet Dragon when he said "I have seen the throne of the gods and it was empty".
Arghh!! I want to keep playing. Got to stop. Bioware win again!!

Stick with the original hair. Changing the hair makes her look too different. Maybe make a change for Trespasser since much more time will have passed. Perhap grey her hair for Trespasser. Yeah, maybe you are right. I don't think, that I will make her grey, Trespasser is only two years after the main game and Riya is still pretty young, but since her hair isn't working in Trespasser and I don't like the original, she will definitively get new hair in Tresspasser . I'm considering buying Jaws of Hakkon and Descent, but they are still expensive for pc - are they worth it? I know, that there is a funny scene, where you judge a bear and another one, where you meet the nug king, but apart from that, is there anything special to those dlcs? Some more companion insight or some cool storylines?

Some more companion insight or some cool storylines? Interesting, I have the Dragon Age Inquisition Game of the Year version for PC which came with all the DLC for roughly 40 US dollars. How much does getting the DLC separately cost you? For PC game versions, I believe there's compatibility between US and European versions. Supposedly, my DA2 is the French version. Anyhow, if you're stuck picking up the DLC separately, both are good, but the JOH is the better of the two. You are investigating what happened to the original Inquisitor hundreds of years earlier. The ultimate revelations add to the lore and I thought it was pretty neat! (No spoilers!) The environment is more jungle-like and the enemies you fight are angry Avvar similar to the ones of the Fallow Mire. Descent takes you back into the Deep Roads to investigate unexplained tremors that endanger important lyrium mines. You get to fight darkspawn in a big way in the first half of the DLC minus the Arch demon. If you liked the Deep Roads expedition with Varric and Bartrand in DA2, you'll like this DLC. You don't visit Orzammar unfortunately. In general, it is good for the lore of the Deep Roads and there are some neat looking environments. In both, you get access to new schematics: some good, some not so good IMHO. As far as companion interaction, better in JOH in my opinion. In particular, I thought Solas was good in JOH. (This, if you do JOH before killing Cory.) That's my 2 cents! If you can afford them, go for it! (Perhaps those who are more knowledgeable about the various versions can weight in on whether it's better for you to get the DLCs separately or bite the bullet and get the GOTY version.)
