^ Frankly, I wasn't RP for all my Inqs. I didn't care if they were human / elf and they were supposed to be behaving in such and such a manner if I want to pretend they have such personalities. I was interested in what Solas has to say because his take on the Fade, magic, spirits, demons, the elves, etc are unlike anything I've heard in DAO and DA II. He's someone with a different window to look through on those issues. Hence, I listened with an open mind and ask practical questions / answers instead of scoffing at him. I'm just basically myself when I play the game. I'm reacting honestly to the chars.

Well-played and consistent with a pro-Templar outlook? But what of Cole, the rather odd spirit boy? For now she's like super pro-Templar, but she doesn't think all mages are evil - she's met Vivi, Solas (well, she's not doing well with Egg) but she saw in Redcliffe what happened when the mages did earn their freedom. Maybe she's wrong, but a sect from Tevinter? Really? She tried to convince the ones she's met to stop this madness, Vivi helped her with one. But she couldn't do much more. For her, the mages are way too dangerous and the Circles had their purpose. Kirwall? Anyone? As for Cole, she knows he can't be trusted and the only reason she accepted his help is that he helped her before. She finds him really creepy, but she gave him a chance. At least Leliana's agents are observing him. She doesn't know if he's really a spirit, or a demon, but if he wants to stay, he has to act like a person. She knows nothing of the Fade and other stuff.

Iona completed operations in the Hissing Wastes, entering Farel's tomb and killing the Sandy Howler dragon guarding the tomb. Also completed the last of the mosaics, "Sacrifice." (The Gatsy write-up was lame as always...)
Also completed some smaller missions. Went with Iron Bull to Storm Coast to assist Qunari naval operation against smuggling ship carrying red lyrium. Qunari ship was lost after Chargers were withdrawn to avoid being overrun by Venatori mages who then attacked Qunari dreadnaught. (Gamer's Note: This scenario always leaves me with mixed emotions. It seems wrong to agree on the joint operation with the Qunari dreadnaught and then withdraw the forces that are supposed to cover the ship the moment the Venatori mages show up. OTOH, it was the Qunari who insisted that Inquisition support the dreadnaught with minimal forces that might not be able to withstand the kind of Venatori force that would be able to sink a dreadnaught. Some believe this was the Qunari testing IB, but losing a ship and its crew seems like a steep price to pay to test one man. Oh well...they end fighting the Qunari regardless.)
Also rescued Sutherland and company on the Storm Coast. And finally, chose to have Cole become more human.
Tomorrow, Iona heads for the Arbor Wilds to see what Cory is up to there. Thereafter, kill all remaining dragons before deciding whether to do both Descent and JOH before doing Trespasser.

I think it's a question of whether you attribute their actions to malice or stupidity. Either way, it's hard for me to feel guilty about dropping the deal, since as you mentioned, if it wasn't a psychological trap on purpose, it was bad Qunari intelligence that resulted in the whole fiasco, and "intelligence" is what the Qunari have primarily put on offer in the "alliance". So whether it's a test or a screwup, it's a raw deal either way.

The whole mission is utter stupidity; I also blame the devs for the lame brain mission, they could do better. The qunari indeed wanted to test IB, that's the way I look at it. They got fedup of him feeding their spy reports to the Inquisition. Gatt also said they didn't like the way IB operate with the Inquisition. Red flags : * requesting a tiny force from the Inquisition * did not request for additional back up. Most notably to support the ship they're sending * sent a FU dreadnaught to flatten a itty bitty smuggler ship. The type of ships smugglers would choose to make cargo runs would be small and easy to maneuver. The donkey qunari chose to send an ungainly dreadnaught that's more for power than for speed and maneuverability. What, after 800 years of fighting Tewinter that surely would have land and sea battles, they didn't have better ships to handle smugglers? I'm sure they do, they just want to make it impossible for the dreadnaught to escape easily. I'm sure they knew how big the venatori forces were, hence, their tiny force stipulation to the inquisition. * the smugglers must be very blind not to see that huge ship lumbering after them. Their lookouts were sleeping on the job. * if the smuggler lookouts did not see that dreadnaught, then the qunari were using magic to cloak themselves and farts to propel the dreadnaught so fast into the bay to bomb the smugglers. If their farts can propel the dreadnaught so fast, why not get out of danger as quickly? Naturally, I gave the finger to Gatt. Sorry, IB's not for the qunari. Go home...oh wait, why are you following us to Skyhold???

Arbor Wilds is beautiful. It's one of many beautiful places in DAI. It's described as wild, uncharted and unexplored. I love travelling through it. But ...
I think AW should have been darker. Not so bright and sunny with lovely sunshine falling through the big gaps / leaves. Or if it's as we see it presently, there should be thin trails made by the armies that had marched through very thick undergrowths. The latter is the best natural defense for the sentinels. Intruders busy clearing the way. Great distraction, go for the kill while they're hacking through.

I'm a bit slow in the DA department at the moment. I'm still in the Emerald Grove with Riya, I like that map, because it's beautiful, but I don't like the quests that much, so I'm stalling. My rogue elven Aylin finished IHW and made the mages allies (she has a crush on Lysas)and my dwarven rogue Lia has just arrived at the Exalted Plains to help Solas save his friend. Honestly none of my other characters get along with Solas so well as that little dwarf. Same with Sera, totally best friends after just arriving in Skyhold. I think Lia would be the one to do the Sera romance with . Aylin will go for Cullen once she is over Lysas. The key to moving forward with a relationship between a Dalish elf and Solas is to be humble and accept Solas' expertise as a scholarly mage wise to the ways of the past and of the Fade. My Dalish mages appreciated that he understood the mark better than anyone else and tried to learn whatever they could from him. They see that his Fade-Dreaming approach to life and magic appears to have alienated him from modern elves. My Dalish mages, of course, assume he's a City Elf, which would make him significantly different from the Dalish to begin with. They learn not to dwell on his thoughts regarding the Dalish. (Rather odd that you can't ask him more about his background. How did he avoid being put in a Circle for example?) One way or another, you should get one of your elves into a Solasmance! You should get Lia in a romance with Sera! Sera likes them both tall and small! (Being in a romance with Sera might make the scene in Trespasser where you first encounter the Vidasala rather interesting!) I don't know about the Solasmance, but I think I'll try the Sera romance with Lia.

Solas can handle disagreement and still be into you, so nodding along with a rapt expression like he's your hot college philosophy professor is not the only way to get some Fade Tongue. I haven't tried Sera, I'm looking forward to it myself.

I finished reading The Calling. To be honest, I liked Last Flight better than this, but at least I got to learn more about Maric, Duncan and Fiona's backstories. I like it when characters from the games get fleshed out more in the novels. As for the Architect, I feel like most antagonists have their eye on the same goal. Commit mass genocide and start the world brand new with their own twisted version of peace. Those who follow them meet an ugly end, because they realize too late that what they're doing is wrong. Next up, I'm going to play Trespasser and finish Alex's DLC run. I delayed it long enough, because at first, I hated the idea of Alex losing her left hand and not being able to use both a sword and shield. But after reading a DA post-Trespasser fanfic that involved a sword/shield Inquisitor overcoming her trials and learning to fight again with Bull's help, I got inspired with a bunch of ideas on how to pan out Alex's story. Both Trespasser and beyond that. So, I think it's not bad at all. Some people mentioned Encore is their favourite staff to use, because of the offence slots and buffs. I never found this schematic in Trespasser, so that'll be something to find. Then there's another thing I'll look for as well concerning the Dread Wolf.

The one companion who could help you toward that end is Solas. All other romance options pull your Dalish Inquisitor away from her culture and her people. After doing the Solasmance, my current Dalish mage is romancing Cullen. It's a nice romance, but a Trevelyan would be a better fit for Cullen.

After doing the Solasmance, my current Dalish mage is romancing Cullen. It's a nice romance, but a Trevelyan would be a better fit for Cullen. It's sweet that you try so hard to make the Solas romance apealing to me, but I guess, I just don't like the guy enough. I don't dislike him, but he is not among my favorites by far, so I guess, I'm a lost cause for the Solas romance, since I don't do romances for lore purpose. I have to like the characters. The only time I romanced a character for story and lore reasons, Alistair, it was a dreadful experience. I think, Lírel will go for Josephine instead, those two get along very well. About the pulling away from the culture part: Normally, I would agree, but I think by the end of inquisition a Dalish inquisitor is already pulled away from her culture, because she has seen so much different cultures and people and experienced so much. Plus from the war table missions I got the feeling that Clan Lavellan is a bit more involved with other cultures than the normal Dalish clan. So I see no harm for my Lavellans in learning a bit more of the world outside the clan. And they still get the informations from Solas if they like. Usually he has enough friendship to talk willingly about everything I did romance Cullen with a Trevelyan once, wasn't my cup of tea. I like to put characters together, that wouldn't fit on first glance, like Riya the Dalish mage with Iron Bull. And if I could, Cullen would be romanced by my dwarf Lia, sadly that's not possible, so Lavellan it is - and not a mage. I hate this Cullen must be with a mage cliche. He needs a rogue to make him loosen up a bit .

Only a rogue could unlock his armor? Anywhoos. Yesterday, Karaas did some grinding in the Hinterlands/Storm Coast/Oasis. Solas was his usually chatty self, this time turning his eyes to the Iron Bull. No chess, but the secret of how shirts are put on under the Qun was revealed. And a image of Karaas unbuttoning a shirt, putting arms in each sleeve and buttoning it up, while staring unblinkingly in Bull's eyes was born. Also the idea of two burly Qunari playing chess by the fireside. I really need some help. Also the Oasis temple is so much nicer when it isn't trying to murder my computer. Today Shira enjoyed the aroma of the Fallow Mire, recruited a very tall person and assigned a friend to Abernache. She also managed to triggers Blackwall's invitation to the rainy beach, but the latter had been refusing to use his ability in combat, so that visit will have to be postponed to a later date. Also created one more version of Aurora Hawke. It was off by a long shot, but still looked kind of good. Sadly I can't make her armor green to fit her current face color scheme. Also learned that Sabrae looks ridiculously good wearing the nut cracker armor, especially when her hair gets all curly. So while today was a bit off combat wise, it was fantastic appearance wise.

Just finished act 1. I used Aveline, Carver and Isabela the whole time. As much as I like Aveline, it must be hard to keep the guard in check if she's always with Hawke especially after being made guard Captain.
After releasing Flemeth from being trapping in her jewelry, I thought it would be better if Velanna played the role of Merrill? Just a thought.
I took Carver to the deep Roads. He died.
I bought a mansion. Too bad I can't have a big screen tv to watch football in it. Hmmm. What's wrong with that picture?
Since I'm playing as mage I've being using crushing prison and walking bomb a lot. The effects look better in DAO.

Today, Iona went to the Arbor Wilds in pursuit of Corypheus' forces. For the first time ever, I beat Samson on Nightmare without using Dagna's special rune to destroy his Red Lyrium armor. I, of course, had Iona, a Dalish elven mage, drink from the Well of Sorrows. I can't imagine a Dalish Inquisitor passing on something tied directly to ancient elves and their gods. Back at Skyhold, I had Samson thrown into prison. With the power of the well, Iona summoned Mythal, who turned out to be Flemeth, the Witch of the Wilds. Morrigan was not pleased! Mythal's guardian dragon was summoned. Iona will now have something to counter Corypheus' blighted dragon when the final battle begins. Am saving the DLC for after the final Cory fight. May skip Descent, but want to do JOH to pick some more Tier 4 material and any schematics not available through Golden Nug.

Deep Descent Elwyn didn't miss the anxious look the dwarves exchanged as the lift rumbled down. So they had misgivings too. Darkness swiftly enveloped them. The breeze that swept past them smelled musty instead of decay. "This might take a while, we better go low," she said as she crouched down. "Good point," said Varric. "I'd hate to have some flying batty knocking me off this platform." A brief rustle and shuffle as everyone sat down. No one felt like conversing as the lift rumbled on and on. Elwyn couldn't imagine how the ancient dwarves or whoever it was had constructed it. The amount of materials and manpower that went into it had to be enormous. Why was it built in the first place? Was it just to mine lyrium? Questions whirled round and round in her head. She jumped when the lift suddenly shook beneath her as it came to a stop. Her legs protested as she stood up. "Light a torch," Cass said. An odd shiny flicker to the side caught Elwyn's eye. "Wait," she said softly. "There's something out there," said Valta. "Do you feel it?" "Are those eyes?" Cass said. "They're around us," said Renn. "Can they see us?" Elwyn wondered as pairs of bright blue lights winked in and out. "Could be animals or ..," Renn muttered. "We could go back," Varric said hopefully. "We're not going back," Elwyn said firmly. "It's just a suggestion," Varric muttered. "I'll take point," said Elwyn. "Everyone linked up." She felt someone's hand brushed against her and grabbed it. "And this hand I'm pulling belongs to ..." "Solas. I think I have Valta." "If you feel a tug, then yes," said Valta. "Have a care where you're wandering to..," came Cass's outraged voice. "In this dark, surely a careless fumble is forgiven." "Not if it happens again." "Honestly Seeker, I wouldn't try you for all the lyrium in the world." "We need to go," Elwyn cut in before the two could continue to bicker. One by one, they linked up. Slowly and carefully, Elwyn led them off the platform. With one hand stretched out before her, she felt the contours of rocks that seemed to be a wall and followed them. Where's Valta and Cass? ...flying

Yesterday. So Isa came back to the Hinterlands, as she had to finish her business there - the Inquisition needs horses. Vivi helped her to persuade master Dennet to come to Haven, they needed someone with his abilites. Then she, Cass, Sera and Vivi headed to Valammar and saw some really interesting ruins - the Calenhad's Foothold, as she discovered from a scetch found nearby. It must be very old - Calenhad the Great was the first King of Ferelden! Also found some Grey Warden's documents (always wonder how no one is interested in these). The Isa had to destroy the Cartel, as they were involved to the Red Lyrium smuggling. Couldn't let that pass. She was really astonished by the dwarven architecture - it was the first time she visited one. But felt uncomfortable, she loves sun, she doesn't like darkness and cold. Then, she and her team destroyed the Cartel's underground forces - she's also seen the Darkspawn for the really first time (well, the first time she can remember). Disgusting creatures. Glad the last Blight didn't reach this far to the north. After closing the hole they used to reach the Thaig (or whatever it was), she hasn't opened the vault. It wasn't her job to rob this place, she only wanted to clear it out. She's taken a cog with her, ready to return it to the rightful owner (if there is one). And then there was Haven. The Templars were ready, she was ready to close The Breach and that's what she's done. With the help of the templars, with their unwavering faith they've fixed the sky. It was time to celebrate, even if she knew there was still a threat with this mysterious guy. Speaking of the devil... She knew she couldn't trust the mages from Redcliffe. Who could think an "alliance" with Tevinter would be a good idea? She had the proof for that when Dorian arrived, saying that they're all Venatori now. This cannot be forgiven. She saved everyone she could, killed every Venatori on her way before entering the chantry. There was a dragon! An Archdemon? One more time she's seen a creature she hasn't met before. And certainly wouldn't want to. The same dragon forced her to leave and try to save the day. Go to the trebuchet and shoot it. Good she had Cass with her, as she isn't that strong at all. As for her meeting with Cory - she didn't believe him. Well, not entirely. She'll never believe the "throne was empty", as she'll always believe she's received the Anker with the help of Andraste herself. Even if it was his fault, it couldn't be just a coincidence. He was so arrogant, so proud. This pride made him too careless and that's what she used to her advantage. She's done her job, she escaped him, jumped into an undeground tunnel. I would really want to finish this part of the story, but don't have enough time. In the end, she remained faithful and agreed to lead the Inquisition. Not for Andraste (even if she's faithful), but because Corypheus must be stopped.

I give up using sigils. Took me this long to realise that not a single one of them is really helpful. There are some mods out there that exchange the annoying trade-offs that normally come with sigils for features that you sometimes see on armor and weapons you loot from chests and such. Features like "chance to bind with evil eye", "chance to drop electric glyphs," etc. If I didn't have the mod, I wouldn't use the sigils. What was the point of them? To give your PC and companions an additional Achilles' Heel? To make them fight in the only way where the sigils are beneficial?

I give up using sigils. Took me this long to realise that not a single one of them is really helpful. I've never used them. Have no reason to Last night I continued with a playthrough in DAI. After about 30 minutes I had to stop. Maybe I meed to give it more time to get back to finishing that playthrough. In my DA2 playthrough, Hawke and Isabela had a wrestling match. Talk with Emeric. Fought a bunch of demons and killed the dupoius guy. For now, I will hold off playing more of DA2 to do a playthrough of ME3. I said I can have the playthrough completed by mid-afternoon. I will continue DA2 tonight

I'm running around in the Hinterlands with characters I probably won't continue. I'm torn I want to play Ghilio again but I've already played him 2 times. So I thought I'd do Ghilio but with Iron Bull's romance but that's impossible because Ghilio belongs to Dorian. So then I thought I'd make a new inquisitor and do Dorian's romance again because that's my favourite but that's also impossible because Dorian belongs to Ghilio So for now I'll be collecting ram meat in the Hinterlands until I can make up my mind.

I'm rather wary of introducing another mod just when I got the present lot to behave. I can only attribute the late realisation to the fact that there's a glitch with the sigils I did use. Giant / bear. There was no negative flaw because both read as imbuing positive buffs but I realised lately that something was not right when skills were slow to cool down. Could that positive be actually a negative? I tested it and it turned out that it is a glitch.

Yeah, Sigil of the Great Bear has no notable downsides for certain types of characters. Mages regenerate Mana based on their maximum, so for them, it's just a flat out bonus to their maximum. Same for Rogues that primarily rely on Critical Hits + Looked Like it Hurt to restore Stamina.

Iona annihilated Corypheus today. She was Level 21, so that may have been the difference. This, despite having the "Take it slow" trial on which supposedly slows leveling up. She had largely completed all the areas of the vanilla game minus a couple of dragons. Next stop is JOH. Thereafter, have to decide whether to bother with Descent or go directly to Trespasser.
This time, did the Cullen romance. It was nice, but the Solasmance was better story and lore-wise. I may try the Blackwall romance on the next PT just to see how well-crafted that one was.
