Not to mention that some Paragon runes cannot be installed on armor. And Bioware never solved this since Awakening`s release...

@adrainbc, good fic! Thanks! I`m glad you liked Varric`s story. I wanted for years to fill some blank points concerning Varric - why he lives at The Hanged Man, why he never attends a Merchant Guild meeting, who is Edwina really. And also why is Bartrand so obsessed about the Deep Roads. I finished the overall plan for the story yesterday and this is what came up. I left intentionally some plot elements undeveloped, to shorten the story a bit. I wasn`t sure how long a message can be at this forum. But I think these can be guessed. Like the meeting between the committee and Varric.

It also set up Bartrand's personality and explain the exchanges between Varric and Bianca regarding him. *thumbs up* If the fic is long, it can always be cut up and put in a few posts. Spacing is definitely needed between paragraphs and conversations if it is long. I always separate them when different chars are talking. I also put my occasional itch to scribble in short bursts of focus, limiting it to a few hundred words though I could have written more / put in more details. I have in mind a short DA fic for FFN but it's not feasible since I have a second ME fic on-going at the moment. However, I still want to dabble a bit with DA so I'm dribbling a ball around here.

Ah, the game ignored whatever was in the Tapestry in the first place anyway. Varric told me about Isabela Revel never met, and Carver, though Revel had Bethany. So, it probably takes the latest saves not what I ported into Tapestry anyway. To be honest, I don't really care. It's not like Shepard where the continuity actually matters.
I have spent my time trying to secure horses as well as get power to go to Val Royal. Lots of backtracking. But the horse is good looking. Do you get to buy different mounts later, dappled grey, white? Oh, I also liked the face paint that goes on Qunari instead of helmets.
And, well, I ended up ordering to build those towers to finish the horse quest, I think correctly. But it said it takes some time (hopefully actual time, not game-time) to finish that quest by Cullen's men... so, I ended up going back to Hinterlands to try to do some Veil watching with Solas... I managed to find the enterance to itafter even more backtracking and dismounting to gather flora... that's that.
No new companions, nothing particularly cool today. Well, the horse, I guess was cool. The whole "chosen of Andraste" gotta be the most annoying chosen role in Bio games.

Crafting hundreds of runes just to get Paragon Runes in Awakening. Did they really have to have you make multiple runes of lower levels just to get to Paragon? I don't bother with rune-crafting in Awakening; it's an insane hassle! What evil mind came up with this system? (Perhaps the same one that came up with the requisition quests in DAI requiring gems and malachite!)
The only runes I go out of my way to craft in DAA are the ones needed for Wade's special projects. Otherwise I just upgrade what I have and plug them into weapons/armor. Installing runes is also a good way to free up inventory space, which by the time I get to Awakening is in very short supply.

Yes, once you have recruited the horsemaster, you can buy other mounts from him. There will be a buy/sell sign next to the stable area. There will also be a few mounts available through WT missions, though I'm not sure how many of those are vanilla game vs promo additions. Some won't be available until after certain conditions are met.

Well, that's nice. Hopefully that wartable stuff works out. I need to go snoop and see where I can find different companions, to go with the different horse.

With lots of money and waiting to the end, you're good. 10 minutes of clicking?

Jusr finished Legacy. Its the first time I played it without Bethany or Carver alive. Had a talk with Gamlen. Even though he's a ding dong, the scene was alright.
I'm at level 23. Haven't done any quests in act 3 yet. Will start assassin in a few moments.

The text was fully formatted in MS Word, with spacing between paragraphs. It ended up a continuous mass when I pasted it. I planned to post it on this thread in its initial form, so I wanted it to be just a message long. I intend to open a DA fanfic thread for such stories and to post it there once finished. I imagined that this Varric story is part of Hawke`s memoires about his time in Kirkwall during the DA2 events. Did you find any plot weak points? Is the story easy to read and follow? You could try notepad, there's less of a gluey mass during pasting. I tend to write directly into the post creation box when posting short snippets in the DA thread, not in a word processing program. For posting chapters on FFN, I always use notepad. The mods might open a fic subforum but I'm not holding out for that one. Be prepared to have the fic thread disappeared somewhere in the mass of mods postings, etc. The plot is fine. You just need better spacing for the paragraphs, dialogues.

For the last two days, Iona has been fighting her way through the Frostback Basin. After defeating Corypheus, she came here to punctuate her victory by helping an archeological/historical team locate the tomb of the first Inquisitor, the legendary Ameridan. What was to have been a peaceful symbolic gesture has turned into a full-fledged campaign as the Inquisition has run into hostile Avvar tribesmen known as the Jaws of Hakkon. Strangely, there may be a connection between the Hakkonites and the fate of Ameridan. The expedition uncovers ancient orders indicating that Emperor Drakkon had sent Ameridan to slay a fierce dragon that Orleigh as Drakkon was mobilizing the empire to face a Blight. Could both the dragon and Ameridan be in the frozen fortress witihin the Basin? And what are the Hakkonites doing in that area and why have they chosen to fight the Inquisition? Gamer Notes: I'm about two thirds through JOH. I'm gradually switching Iona and her companions over to Tier 4 armor with enhanced cold resistance. On Nightmare with trials, the Hakkonites are tough! Oh, has anyone noticed this female Dalish mage in the Skyhold garden area? Why is she wearing a male keeper robe as opposed to the female version?

Oh, has anyone noticed this female Dalish mage in the Skyhold garden area? Why is she wearing a male keeper robe as opposed to the female version? Hard not to notice her when she's meshed up against mother Giselle during conversations. As to why she's wearing that. *shrug* Maybe she's rebelling against something or it could be a dev foul up. Some of their world item placements are not that great.

With lots of money and waiting to the end, you're good. 10 minutes of clicking? Money is key for Awakening. I save a lot of money while playing DA:O, so when I reach Awakening I have more than I`ll ever need. Raising a lot of money is easy in DA:O, with the exploits. There is one in Lothering (the woman who need traps), and the other is with the lyrium "traffic" between the Circle and the Denerim market tavern. I use the trap exploit to reach level 8 fast, since this exploit also grants XP points. Level 8 is needed for the rogue "Coup De Grace" talent, which is vital for them. Then I go directly to Denerim market, buy the Potent Lyrium potion recipe from Wonders of Thedas, then go to the Circle and start trafficking between the Circle and the Gnawed Noble tavern. After raising enough money, I visit every store freely available (Denerim, Orzamar) for armor and weapons. Then I start the game for good. I usually end up with a lot of cash after finishing DA:O, so I can start Awakening with every recipe, armor and weapon bought early from both Vigil Keep and Amaranthine. Then I`ll make a few armor runes (just the ones with constitution) and weapon runes. I usually make only two types of weapon runes: one for darkspawn and the other for every non-darkspawn foe. I have two sets of weapons for each companion, like Geralt has two swords. This way I can combine previous runes into more potent ones, reducing the crafting time.

Crestwood Greatsword. Easy meat. Elwyn could easily read the man's conviction as he charged at her with his shield, leaving his companions wide open to arrows. Dodging his charge was easy when he had to make extra effort against the slope. He showed he wasn't a complete novice when he switched direction smoothly, clearly intending to bring his arming sword to jab at her. She was already in motion as he halted and made the turn, whirling her sword in loops. His sword was knocked out of his hand and his shield battered back against him, the edge hitting his helm face on. He staggered, stunned. Before he could recover, she spun the greatsword out of the loops and struck the side of his helm with the flat of the blade. He dropped to the ground like a fell tree and moved no more. Elwyn looked up. Not a single bandit was standing. All her companions were accounted for. "Any alive?" she asked as Cass walked over to her, cleaning her sword with some plucked grass before sheathing it. "None," Cass said. "This one is still breathing but he won't make it either." She turned the bandit's head with a boot, showing the deep dent in the helm. Elwyn shrugged. A dead bandit was good riddance, she'd hardly shed a tear. "The troops will clean this up," she said. "We're not far from Hawke's location. We can make it before night fall."

Very brief update on my first play through...
As I write my party are halting activity for the day in a cave called the Ash Warriors Refuge, Hinterlands.
In the by and by at Skyhold my character, Duds Barnham has started to pursue a thing with Cassandra. Varric has written the next chapter in the series that Cassandra really enjoys and that whole thing was a fun bit of down time.
I've been to the Storm Coast and back and have sat in judgement in the throne at Skyhold over a couple of cases. Before pushing on with the main story I'm clearing up tasks in the Hinterlands; helping Blackwell retrieve artifacts and securing caches from rogue mages. It's good to be back in this part of the world. The wider events have helped give the Hinterlands new appeal.
Duds Barnham has given up on Lelianna for the time being to see how things go with Cassandra. It feels weird though trying to bust a few moves with the Seeker whilst bloody Iron Bull stands close by watching it all! Give us some room you bloody great big Quanari face, stop cramping Duds' game!!
I'm not sure about Cole. Despite his creepiness, there is something disturbing about him. I've been advised to run him off but I haven't done so. I hope this doesn't come back against me to ruinous effect. Then again, for the sake of the people, maybe I should turn him loose and kick him out for good??

I'm doing the nth re-run of my canon, and for the first time in a long time I'm actually starting it with DAO instead of just using an old save in DA2... Usually when I'm about to start a pt I think about the combat and it puts me off, but I was missing so much DAO's cast that I finally made up my mind to go through with it And I' sooo happy I did, because I'm having such a great time with it I know all the banter by heart but I still kept going time and again to the points that trigger it in Denerim, while I was doing side quest to get the money to buy Wintersbreath, and latter in Redcliffe And, silly little details that I love, I'm talking it slow with companions' dialogue so they still don't care much for me (well, Alistair is starting to) and I love how they all go grunting, "do this, do that", "what now?!" awwww I love them so much... And it's only going to get better because I just got Zevran Also, the combat is far from be as annoying as I remembered, even if it's not my favourite

After an utterly unremarkable quest with Solas in a tiny cave with four shades or whatever, and another elf who was there by some unknown reason -maybe an Easter egg I have missed- I went to Court of Avitane, or Val de Royuex, where everyone pretends to be French, but with Venetian influences. Very pretty. Had a plot important banter, and recruited a cool Mage that does not approve of mages' freedom and tried to make my Quanary feel guilty about supporting it. Then I followed a silly trail of red handkerchiefs to find the most unpleasant little sister perky rogue girl to date in BioWare's games. Told her to get lost, because every word out of her mouth was threatening my sanity. Good riddance!
Finally, the two more quests opened up, one to find Blackwall, the other -the Iron Bull. Went to meet Blackwall. Again, after the trials of finding your way to the quest location, the quest itself is just so... short. Anyway, the mod took, Blackwall is really good looking. But I was hoping for a gravelly voice, and nope... not really a pleasant voice at all. so, Solas it is then. I did like how Blackwall perked up when my Qunari flirted with him, though.
Anyway, Varric wants me to find 12 lyrium samples or some such, so I guess I will have to wait till I can use Vivienne. Hopefully, the lirium is not scattered all over the place, but is also located in a small, easily accessible dungeon.
After which I need to step on it with the plot to be able to unlock the specialization, because I guess, I need a Skyhold... or some such.

I also have a Mahariel DA:O run, in parallel with a Garrett Hawke rogue joker. The last one for fanfic purposes. It`s been more than 2 years since I played these two games. The Mahariel is for the moment parked in Ostagar for a bit, while Garrett is closing up some remaining Act 1 quest and prepares for the Deep road expedition; with his part paid up and the maps delivered. Right now he`s still deciding if it`s worth it to help Grace & Co escaping, while battling some brainless undead in the cave system. Meanwhile, I am updating an old short fanfic story about Anders and Ser Pounce-a-lot. Hope to be ready soon

Finished Act 3
During The Best Served Cold quest, it was Varric that got kidnapped.
I sided with the templars playing as a mage.
If Cullen was present when Meredith called for the right, would he have stepped up and questioned Meredith? There is an opportunity for Hawke to ask him what he thinks when 3 mages are on their knees. He says it was far dire in Fereldon than Kirkwall with many mages surviving
