Tying up loose ends. Went to Maddox's temple with Cullen. Did Cole's amulet thing, he's now becoming more human. Some other stuff later on.

After an utterly unremarkable quest with Solas in a tiny cave with four shades or whatever, and another elf who was there by some unknown reason -maybe an Easter egg I have missed- 1. I went to Court of Avitane, or Val de Royuex, where everyone pretends to be French, but with Venetian influences. Very pretty. Had a plot important banter, and 2. recruited a cool Mage that does not approve of mages' freedom and tried to make my Quanary feel guilty about supporting it. Then I followed a silly trail of red handkerchiefs 3. to find the most unpleasant little sister perky rogue girl to date in BioWare's games. Told her to get lost, because every word out of her mouth was threatening my sanity. Good riddance! Finally, the two more quests opened up, one to find Blackwall, the other -the Iron Bull. Went to meet Blackwall. Again, after the trials of finding your way to the quest location, the quest itself is just so... short. Anyway, the mod took, Blackwall is really good looking. But I was hoping for a gravelly voice, and nope... not really a pleasant voice at all. so, Solas it is then. I did like how Blackwall perked up when my Qunari flirted with him, though. 4. Anyway, Varric wants me to find 12 lyrium samples or some such, so I guess I will have to wait till I can use Vivienne. Hopefully, the lirium is not scattered all over the place, but is also located in a small, easily accessible dungeon.
After which I need to step on it with the plot to be able to unlock the specialization, because I guess, I need a Skyhold... or some such. 1. Yes, I love that about Val Royeux/Orlesian Empire - 2/3 French 1/3 Venetian. The masks are definitely Venetian-inspired! 2. Vivienne - the Court Enchanter to Empress Celene of Orlais. 3. Oh the irony! You just dumped Sera, of the "Red Jenny" anarchist group! They specialize in tormenting nobles who bully commoners. She's also a lesbian who has a thing for Qunari women! Back to the anarchist part of her character, there's actually some banter between her and Solas regarding revolutionary groups and ideas. 4. This is a quest that covers several different maps. You and Varric are out to destroy Red Lyrium deposits. It's what caused Meredith and Varric's brother to go mad in DA2. It's a side stop you can do on the side while pursuing main quests. In the Hinterlands, there are two deposits. One is easier to get to than the other. BTW, when you were in Val Royeaux, did you meet Fiona?

The companions fetch quest, like Varrics red lyrium, aren't mandatory, you can skip them or use them, when you need more friendship with a companion. The red lyrium veins are hidden throughout the game, so you will not get them in one go. But Varric isn't mad, if you don't destroy them all (same with Solas and his ancient devices or Blackwall and his Grey Warden stuff, they are basically just fetch quests with benefits of friendship points) I wasn't that happy with Sera (the rogue you did dismiss) too, but I got used to it. Vivienne (the mage in Val Royeaux) I liked from the beginning. Can't wait on your opinion of the Iron Bull. Do you use a mod to romance Solas with a Quanri?

Since she wanted a quick run, I thought it fair to point out, that she didn't have to go looking for stuff like red lyrium or Solas ancient artifacts. I don't know, if a Solas romance mod for other races exist, but since there are normally mods to unlock every romance to everyone, I assumed. I normally don't use such mods, if it would interfere with the story, like Solas or Dorian - their love preferences are kind of important for their personal story, but I don't judge. I'm playing with Riya at the moment. I parked her a while, since she is in the Emerald Grove. And although this is a beautiful map, it is also very frustrating at times, like the area, where you have to fight through a lot of giants and brontos (you can't avoid the brontos, because they are standing so close to the giants). I mangaed to pull all enemies there in one go, that was a very long battle. And then there is that rift, where the fear demon comes out. He isn't the worst, but I had six or seven despair demons come out too, I don't know, if that was a bug or because I had some trials on, but it killed my group instantly. I will try it again with a different group. After that, I'm finally done with that map (the only one, I dislike more, is the Hissing Waste)

She's connected to the characters you'll encounter in the Winter Palace. You won't see her again in this game.

It wasn't about Varric's quest. Romance mods I only know about the Cass mod since it was mentioned at the old BSN; for a female Inq to romance her, but to me, these kind of "romance" mods only twisted / forced the chars into something they're not. Just imo. Emerald Graves I always clear out the nearby rifts before tackling the giants; I always take the long roundabout route to make sure I attracted none of the big guys while I was at it. If you can, try to lure the giant away to an area free of brontos. If any of the S&S companions have horn of valor, keep sounding it, the giant's missiles aren't to hurt any if the barriers stay strong.

I only was assuming, @domi uses a mod for the Solas romance (maybe you can clear that up, domi). I know, that there is at least another mod that allows Dorian to be romanced by females. I normally don't use those romance mods either, the only ones, I use, are dialogue fixes. Thanks for the EG tips. I just finished the map (apart from the elven ruin) and I think, there is no single giant alive. And I seald teh fade rift with the fear demon. It must have been a glitch with the seven despair demons, now I had the fear demon, two despair demons and two wraith - that, my group could handle

Maybe that's what happened? Going to EG at a slightly lower level might help but I know some of the rifts are a set level no matter what. The fear demons pop out of the level 20 ones, so if you aren't close to 20 you might want to avoid those unless you have 2-3 options for dispelling spawn points.

Been playing Awakening, and, so, like, serious question for any of the trivia buffs: Was one or more of the DA writing staff going through a really bad breakup during the development process? -There's a "filthy adulterer" who's been lynched and hanged by vigilantes in the Knotwood Hills -There's a guy who hung himself because he was "unworthy" as a lover. -There's a Grey Warden who's dying in the Architect's lair and when you go to give his wife the news, it turns out she was cheating on him anyway and she just bad mouths him for it all. -There's the girl who dumped her boyfriend that used a riddle game/treasure hunt to propose.
For as...compact as the game is, that's a lot of spite for romantic endeavors.

Oh, hi guys.
Yes, I merged a few mods into the game, one of which is supposed to remove restrictions from Solas romance. I left Dorian's in place. Unfortunately, the mod I installed for his appearance does not remove his moustache, using an older one that the new mod manager does not install. But it does make him look better, so I am good.
Also, I got clued in about red lyrium after we got slaughtered en route to lyrium location #1, and after Blackwall told me he wanted to visit 379 or so very important Warden Memorial sites...
Dusk travelled to Storm Coast to meet the Iron Bull, and let him get hired by Team Inquisition. He is okay, but I like Blackwall more. But gotta say, Bull is the only man taller than my magnificent giantess.
In the meantime did a few things we do for Inquisition... camp setting, gathering medicinal flora and chasing forgettable wild mages and Templars. And rode to Redcliffe to chose mages over templares yet another time. This time with an exciting Tervinter twist.
So, that's how I know Dorian still have moustache in my game...
Dusk ended up in a dungeon... flashback? With Dorian... okay, that's new.... wait, I've just assembled my whole crew to get it cut down back to one?
So far not a single sprout of elfroot in the dungeon.

I don't think I can do another playthrough of DA:2 and DA:I. I can't. I will try and do it for DA:O though, it's a good game like KOTOR 1 and the ME series.

So yeah, someone was very disillusioned with romance! (And I bet the same spiteful person designed the rune-crafting system as well!)

Did Josie's assassin quest. Also got Blackwall out of jail. Loose ends to finish up before I go fight Cory.

Frostback Basin
Cass speared the slab of fried fish on her platter and lifted it. "It smells really good. Where did you get the fish?"
"Some of the boys tried their hand with the fishing nets and lines at the lake. Caught boxes of them," said Sanderson as he went around with the wooden platter, carefully slipping large slabs of hot fried fish on the plates of each companion, with extras for Iron Bull.
Elwyn tried a piece. Crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. The flesh was sweet. Sanderson disappeared with the empty platter and returned with another.
"And here, llomerryn red to go with the fish," he said, spooning out the sauce from a bowl on the tray. He halted before Elwyn and bowed. "For the Inquisitor, a specialty."
Elwyn stared at the golden brown patties he slide on her plate. "Hearth cakes?" she said in amazement. She hadn't seen or tasted a hearth cake in months. Not since she left the clan. She wondered if they would taste the same.
"I hope they meet your satisfaction," Sanderson said with a faint questioning tone when Elwyn only kept staring at the cakes.
He was waiting for her to taste them, Elwyn realised. She took one of the cakes and bit into it. She blinked. "You used halla butter," she said in surprise. "How do you know we use halla butter?"
"Ah, a good cook cannot limit himself to one pot, one knife or a single spice. He must forever be learning or how else can he satisfy the demands of his trade?"
"Are you saying you can cook anything?" Cass asked dubiously.
"My lady." Sanderson turned to her. "I'm yours to command. What would you like for your morning break?"
She stared at him, stumped at the swift turnabout , unable to think of any dish. "Well.."
"Perhaps the Blessed Apple?"
"You can make the Blessed Apple??" she said in disbelief.
"I would not have suggested it otherwise."
"Very well. We shall have the Blessed Apple for the morning break."
"As you say, my lady." Sanderson bowed.
What was the Blessed Apple? Elwyn itched to ask but she was enjoying the hearth cakes too much to bother at the moment. Though the taste brought a rush of homesickness, she pushed it away and savoured the cakes.
"By the by, where has Varric gone to?" Dorian asked. "He's missing all the nice food."
"I saw him at the cook tent," Iron Bull mumbled, shoveling in mouthfuls of fish.
"What's he..," Cass began to ask when there came a loud crash. Everyone turned in the direction of the cook tent to see the line of soldiers to the food servers breaking up and retreating hurriedly. As one, the food servers rushed into the tent, fingers to their noses, hands waving at the air. "What has he done now?"

Iron Bull is odd, but I guess no odder than conscripting an Assassin that quite literally had just tried to kill you. "I'll still spy on you but I'll be friendly about it. " Not a flashback. Literally the future. Try not to think hard about it. *may DA never do another time travel story ever.* You will not remain in the future forever, promise. The lack of elfroot kinda makes sense, doesn't it? Considering how wet it was, there could have been Deep Mushroom though.

Therefore, of all the backgrounds for the PC, she might actually be the least inclined to take on Iron Bull, depending on the circumstances that led to her being Tal-Vashoth. While PCs from the other backgrounds might start off with suspicion toward the Qunari, the fact that Iron Bull being is so up front about working for the Ben Hassarath and his normal sounding voice (as opposed to the "noble savage" voice of Sten in DAO and various Qunari in DA2) might make them more inclined to take a chance on him. (Plus it's a BW game; you're expected to recruit a strange cast of characters! So, did you change your mind on Sera? I can see you going back to a prior save to hear her spiel about the Red Jennies and then....turning Sera down again because that sour lemon look she gives is so priceless!)

Can't. Not. Recruit. Lol I have a dwarf that I gave a guiding thought process. "If they try to kill you, ou must kill them. No mercy." Realized by the end of Lothering it would require me to kill Zevran I'll have to turn my eyes away from the screen ad kill him while he is unconscious More

I can see you going back to a prior save to hear her spiel about the Red Jennies and then....turning Sera down again because that sour lemon look she gives is so priceless!) No, I've picked the option where I told Sera I did not want her or the little people, you know, the people, people, people... people, people. She left, still chattering like a demented squirrel, as the walls of the small courtyard echoed with that terrible voice of hers. I've tried to figure out who on Thedas the guy we've killed was, but I did not find anything about that in the courtyard. That sums up the encounter. I did not plan to not recruit her, but the idea of having someone talking like that within my earshot was really unappealing. Yes, I understand she was going for a take on the beloved Robin Hood's ballads, but... ouch. I was a total sucker for Sten, and the DA2 Qunari, heh. But, I guess, they could not have carbon copied Sten.

Today Shira enjoyed the rain. First on the Storm Coast, then in Crestwood. Cole recited some poetry and Sera told a rousing story about trust. Shira also facemelded with Blackwall, had drinks with the Iron Bull and watched Cassandra beat the daylight out of Varric. The flycam also offered some new views, mostly close ups on the local dwarves and glimpses at Shira's troll face when she thinks the camera can't see her. So grand session all in all.

My husband may be starting Awakening tonight. I know companion loyalty quests can be super buggy, does anyone know of a good spoiler free walk through to time them all correctly with bugs in mind?
