Good morning, good morning! 1. Finally, finally, in RL we went from -20 to +10, so it was glorious to be out of doors! Like, your face doesn't freeze off and stuff. So, I had a great game-life balance day, but because I sort of, kind of want to get through Inquisition before the Coming of Andromeda (OMG, just one week to go!!!) and meeting Jaal, and diving into the hard-core (for me) MP grind… I did a bit of playing around the Western Approach. I met Hawke for the second time and participated in a farce with Luscious. However you spell his name. You know who I am talking about. An evil Venatori that corrupted the Wardens. So, the Wardens are well on the way of becoming the minor villainous cult. Ce la vie. Good thing I am not attached to my Warden, because she is conspicuously missing replaced by yet another evil female Warden/templar. Ooookay. 2. Still puzzled how and why it’s Hawke that is tied into the plot, not the Warden. Seriously, why Hawke? Revel’s participation is basically can be loosely defined as “everyone’s buddy that tags along”. Varric’s buddy, Stroud’s buddy… I guess Sin Fell’s buddy… not that crazy about this subplot. Finally, met one of BioWARE’s trademark hilarious academics doing idiotic research in the middle of mayhem. That hilarious geophysisist on Coruscant, Mordin Solus, and, I am sure, other Easter Eggs I am forgetting. But, yep, bioWARE always liked poking fun at academia (and, in SWTOR, at geophysics specifically). Anyways, this Orlesian academic is by some inexplicable reason is tied into a quest to get a Venatori Keep that (grinds her teeth) opens up a part of the area, so we had a nice chat. Figure 1. Ah, you specialize in Drakonology! How exciting! My current area of expertise is a wholesale murder of Tevinter Magisters. And… that’s that for now. I plan to give Dorian a hug, and go kill more bad guys from Tevinter once I have a chance to get back to the game. It's really a train wreck of a plot at this point, but, well, whatever. 3. Also, my latest take on analogues for Earth vs Thedas:
Ferelden -Britain, Orlais – Aquitaine (France), Antiva - Italy/Sicily, Free Marches – Germanic/Scandinavian(?), Nevarra – Spanish, Rivain – Middle East/Siria/Turkey; Tevinter – Byzantine; Qunari – Turks or Mongols or other Manchurian/Siberian/Central Asian nomads1. What's RL? I'm in northern Ohio and we seemed to be having an early spring until Winter suddenly decided to come back. High 20s F here. 2. Ideally, they wanted to pair Hawke with your Warden from DAO, but how would you voice that character given that the Origins PC didn't have a voice? If, in DAO, Alistair or Loghain survived the game and continued as a Warden, they would be there instead of Stroud. As to why Hawke is there, he/she did accidently unleash both Red Lyrium and Corypheus on the world! 3. As an old history major, I'd say Orlais is two thirds French Empire and/or Monarchy and one third Venetian Republic. (Not just for the gondolas in VR, but also for the masks.) The Marches is difficult. What's the distinctive accent? Mostly English, though the accent of Sebastien - the optional DA2 companion - is Scottish. The Marches is described as a series of disunited city states which describes much of Italy's history. Italy even has a region called "the Marches." Then again, you could say Germany was effectively a bunch of city states under the Holy Roman Empire. For Antiva, my first thought was Naples, so you could put that down as the Kingdom of the two Sicilies (which included both Sicily and southern Italy). .For Nevarra, you mostly have Cassandra's accent to go on and I always thought that was more or less Germanic. For Rivain, I always thought Isabela was kind of Spanish because of the name. But it could also be southern Mediterranean/Middle East. Tevinter - definitely Byzantium! For the Qunari, the Turks and Mongols seems like a good hypothesis given some of the clothes and the way they seem to be the Ottomans of Europe. Going even more modern, from what they describe of Qunari society, it almost sounds like a totalitarian Communist regime as well. And just wait till you run into the inhabitants of the area in the Jaws of Hakkon DLC!

Well, Tevinter is a partition of the Empire that survived, and is steeped in magic and intrigues, rather than military austerity of the Republican Rome & whatever values Western Rome tried to emulate. The fun thing is that all the nations have some features that are recognizable, and some that are obscure, so it's what anyone makes of it. I am really tired of Inquisition's ways, but on the other hand I have invested enough to want to see how it ends. Sort of. But yeah, the day Andromeda is out... oh, boy!!! The Ancient Rome is many-sided. And Tevene is similar than Latin. Latin is lingua franca and Bysantium is even more multi-faceted, and more associated with magic, intrigue, secrecy, decadency and cultural refinement. The Tevinter of the time of conquest and domination is very much like Roman Empire, but what remains is more similar imo to Bysantium. Anyways, it's likely going to be a mix of both anyway, just like all other cultures.

Oh, sorry. The star option is in reference to stopping him from killing Ella. But if you aren't enough friend/rival with him, the STAR option isn't even available as something to choose. Therefore, Anders kills Ella against your wishes. When you return back to Darktown, Anders is packing up his stuff to leave. You actually have to talk him OUT of leaving. Otherwise, you can actually encourage him leaving (and if he just killed Ella against your wishes, it's likely you would take this option), and nver see him again until the end of Act 3 when he blows up the Chantry. I've never seen this form of entrance for him, I've always talked him out of leaving. Anders can leave? Well. I didn't know this before, thank you! I kinda like letting Anders kill her. Give him something to regret. A wake up call.

I'm also excited for the grand buildings that will be there for libraries.

Exploring that place that is a whole lot of nothing. Well that didn't last long. I can only take so much of the desert. Back to doing the Exalted Plains quests.

Winter is November through May, inclusive, is not uncommon here, but last two weeks were brutal even for us. Google tells me my -20 is your -4 Fahrenheit. That, and snow... terrible weather. Heh, high twenties Fahrenheit would put some young folks in t-shirts here, I swear. Also, they chose Hawke's voice, no reason not to pick Warden's, imo. And, yep, Hawke did, but Hawke helping is sort of a bad omen, lol. His role though is so marginal... so, Stroud is how they imagine our Warden?

The main story starts with an attempt at peace between mages and templars, so of course bringing Hawke back is more fitting.

Riya and company just finished the Temple of Mythal. Surprisingly, Riya drank from the Well, mostly to annoy Morrigan, whom she really dislikes. First she lied about her intentions and then she went all hostile against the nice sentinels who helped us. What Morrigan didn't manage with her childish behavior, Riya managed with charm and decent behavior. It is so good to finally get back at Morrigan, I hated her guts in DAO, despite being a big Claudia Black fan. Back at home, Riya and Sera bitched around a bit, because that stupid girl just gets annoying. What kind of logic is 'I'd rather believe in the maker so the elven gods can't be there or they are demons... ... yeah, right, Sera - whatever you are drinking, stop it, I guess. Well, Riya certainly wont loose any sleep just because Sera and Solas don't like her decision, at least the rest was ok with it. One thing that annoyed me is, that while Bull calls Riya Kadan, when she wakes up after drinking from the well, he acts, like he is just a companion in the dialogue after the temple is finished. I had the same phenomen with Blackwall in my last playthrough - it's a bit annoying, when your LI acts like he/she barely knows you in some conversations. Would it have been so hard, to make some LI sepcific content for each companion conversation, that is main quest related?

(Also possibly during the Deep Roads expedition if Hawke brought his/her sibling along.) He's not a complete stranger.

We are practically Southerners here, lol. And we get warm coastal winds over the Rockies to break up the winter once in a while for a few days. yes, I though I have remembered him from the Deep Roads. Don't remember him from Qunari at all, I just remember Arishok. He is the one Anders/Hawke negotiate with to get Carver to try the Joining, right? Oh, would not it have been awesome if it where Bethany or Carver if the PC made them Wardens. Well, I guess that gives my other Hawke incentive to be actively trying to help the Wardens. Though, with carver's luck, he was probably the first one to "volunteer" to become a sacrifice.

I definitely found my ideal Skyhold pj. The others were: too boob-bastic, twiggy shoulders / arms, odd bulging front and back panels. Morrigan intro Inq to crossroads and yay, a new line of dialogue I never heard of.

After having largely pacified the Hinterlands, rescuing the soldiers in the Fallow Mire, and dealing with the Blades of Hessarian on the Storm Coast, Revas and her mage allies were finally ready to attempt to close the Breach. This went off without a hitch; neither Revas nor the mages were injured and the Breach was closed. But as Haven celebrated this great victory, the Elder One, a blighted caricature of a human mage, appeared followed by an army of Templars who showed signs of Red Lyrium usage. Revas fought with Solas, Blackwall, and Iron Bull at her side. Just as it appeared that the Inquisition would emerge victorious, a blighted dragon attacked Inquisition defensive positions, destroying many of their trebuchets. As they retreated toward the Chantry, Revas and her companions rescued as many villagers as they could. Inside the Chantry, Commander Cullen declared the situation hopeless. The best they could do is use the last trebuchet to cause an avalanche burying Haven and its attackers. At that point, a dying Chancellor Roderick, helped by a strange young man named Cole, told them of a pilgrams' footpath that could be used to evacuate Haven's inhabitants without attracting the attention of the Red Templars. Revas and her team then decided to perform a delaying action to give Cullen and Roderick time to evacuate the rest of the Inquisition. As they repelled wave after wave of Red Templars, they loaded and aimed the final trebuchet. Revas then ordered her companions to rejoin the others while she waited for the Elder One to arrive. Soon, the monster, who called himself Corypheus, arrived with the blighted dragon close behind him. He chastised her as a pretender who stole the Mark that would allow him to ascend to godhood. He used his powers to try to reclaim the mark from Revas, but found that the mark was permanent. As he contemplated how to dispose of Revas, she saw a flare indicating that Inquisition forces had successfully evacuated Haven. She fired the trebuchet causing a final avalanche. As Corypheus escaped via his dragon, Revas barely made it into an underground cavern as the snow buried Haven. After making her way through the tunnels to the surface, she found the pilgrims' path and barely made it to the Inquisition camp. There, Mother Giselle successfully rallied the despondent survivors through an appeal to faith. As they sang a song of hope, Solas took Revas aside and informed her that the orb Corypheus used was of elven origin, a fact that might endanger the already precarious position of elves in Thedas. To strengthen her position with the Inquisition, he guided her in leading the Inquisition to a forgotten but still powerful fortress - Skyhold! Gamer Note: After finishing the fight and arriving at the Inquisition camp, I had the "white screen" problem following the PC's dialog with Solas. After more than an hour of unsuccessful trouble-shooting, I disabled all my mods via the modmanager and poor Revas had to accept the sword of the Inquisitor while wearing Inquisition pajamas and a rather lame default hair style. For the first time ever, I had a rather strange scene with Cassandra.

^ Ain't never going to do anything bad to Cass. Protag may not be Andrastian but she wouldn't belittle Cass. * OT I watched a bit of MEA gameplay (press release). I went zZZz because it's all about exploring the environment which is finely rendered btw. I'm not impressed by Peebee's entrance and the brief dialogue. Not impressed that everyone else has magic protection against hazardous environments. The devs are not even trying to be practical. I'll know more tomorrow since I'll get hands on (trial); it's the 16th.

IMHO, they should have locked zones until you progressed the main quest. Hinterlands and the other Tier1 zones: The Wrath of Heaven The Threat Remains Champions of the Just / In Hushed Whispers Up until maybe Crestwood (Tier2) as introduction quests: In Your Heart Shall Burn From the Ashes In the middle: Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts Hissing Wastes (Tier3) as a sort of introduction quest: Here Lies the Abyss Haven't done those yet: What Pride Had Wrought The Final Piece Doom Upon All the World I went into Frostback Basin with top notch Tier3 and it was quite hefty compared to other zones or the main quests. Once you get the first Tier4, it will be maybe too easy on the main quest again. p.s. I still think Morrigan is the most awesome character in the whole series, also really cool how she is happy with my Warden :
And I really enjoyed those companion quests. Leliana becomes a monster! The solution for Blackwall is brilliant... "Noone is to judge a Grey Warden or members of the Inquisition as long as I am in charge!"
Now I need to break for a while, because my Desktop is disassembled

I took Mara to Crestwood and finished up Still Waters *grumbles about shifty mayor* After that, the weather improved markedly and I set off to find Hawkes 'Warden friend'.. I also found the body of the overdue agent and took care of the wyvern problem in the grotto (without being asked...because I'm just that helpful).

Kvothe is trying to make his way to Master Dennett in the Hinterlands, trying to secure horses for the Inquisition
On the way:
Cassandra: I hear reconstruction is progressing well in Kirkwall Varric: I know things are bad there Cassandra: I wasn't trying to... Varric: you weren't trying to remind me how bad it is in Kirkwall, so you decided to talk about it Kvothe: *on fire trying to pick up a shard from a burning building* AARRRGHHHH!! Cassandra: about it's recovery!
:smh:

So, I finished DA2, it's always a little sad finishing DA2 I love Hawke's story so much, almost as much as I love Shepard's which for me it's to say a lot Some last comments on DA2, anyway The fight with Bysmor, Beacon and Gifre, was long, and yes, hard, but not too much. It makes a huge difference for me having to keep everyone up the whole time or being able to just let them fall. I'm torn between "I'm never doing that again" and "I have to do that at least once more" I'm afraid if I do it will become this thing I just can't not do ever again, like with the medigel in Mass Effect: I managed to finish a pt on insanity without ever using it, and now I can never use it because it feels like cheating or something Also, a lot of people complain that Cory's fight it's too easy, but Meredith's fight is very easy too, isn't it? I don't mean it as something negative, I think it's a really fun fight, I wouldn't change anything about it, but it's hardly the toughest fight in the game. Orsino's on the other hand, it's tedious, IMO. Not as tedious as the archdemon, but pretty tedious. By the way, the title to the hardest fight of the game, in this pt at least, I think it has to go to Varnell. Nothing's worse than a extremely loyal templar and a crazy mob Maybe it's only because I do the quest as soon as it's available. I also refuse to hide in the corridor, but I always avoid that kind of thing. In any case, it was super annoying So far though, if I include DAO, the most annoying fights still are the Brecilian forest's revenants I finished the game with the Torch of Falon'Din as I always do, but since I played DAI kind of feels wrong Truth is I got better staves than that, but at least for the final show I like to go with a famous staff bonus points for slots to add runes to get even more fire damage Also, I must have done something wrong, maybe I missed a arcane tome or something, because I didn't reach 100 in magic, and in completionist pts I always do And about the companions, I always say that DAO's is my favourite cast, but I really love DA2's too, and now that I've played the two games one after another, I'm not so sure DAO's my favourite anymore. Maybe it still is, but it would be a close call. It would be hard too to pick between Zevran and Fenris, I love Fenris so much too And now, it's DAI's time, but I'm getting off the wrong-foot :/ I've come to terms with reality and I realized there's no way a could make a completionist pt like I wanted to do since I'm probably not playing DA for a long, long time. I was hoping to take the day off to enjoy MEA, I've been planing that for who knows how long, but life got in the way as it always does :sob: So, it was a hard decision to make, but rather than having only a couple of hours to play, I've made up my mind to postpone it to the weekend it hurts but I think it the right choice That leaves me with 10 days to play DAI, which "thanks" to my plans for MEA going to hell is more that would otherwise have been, but I also couldn't play as much as I expected these past few weeks. Anyway, it's still hardly enough to make a completionist pt. And that's even if life doesn't get in the way again, and it always does So, being reasonable, there's no other solution that to aim for a 30 hours pt. That means that's going to be my the short version of my canon pt. It might be a better way to say good bye to DA than a completionist pt, since it's a concentrated version of DAI with everything I love and not much more, but I'm still a bit disappointed, because I kind of felt like going through the whole DAI's experience again I'm thinking I could add a few things I'd normally leave out in a shorter pt at least. Maybe some more of the more elfy quests, like Dirthamen's Temple and Elgarna's Bastion. I guess there's no point in doing JoH, which is a shame, because I really wanted to replay it, but I read that someone liked to do The Descent before closing the rift, reasoning that is a good moment to be looking for lyrium, and it sounded like a good idea, so I might try that. I'll see how much time I have. I'm not going to make it too challenging when it comes to combat either, I want to move more/less quickly. I'll play on nightmare with Walk Slowly and Even Ground on, but not Take it Slow, and as soon as I get to Trespasser I'll turn it down to normal. I'm also going to use the golden nug. I love to have nice things anyway, so even if I was trying to make it more challenging I'd rather turn more trials on that restrain myself from using the best stuff when it's right there Anyway, I get to see Solas soon And really soon actually considering he's probably my favourite thing in DAI it's great that you meet him so early in the game

@javeheart I know how you feel with the ME:A coming. I figured that I might not finish the DA:I playthrough before the 21st now. But, well, I waited 3 years, I can wait a few more months to see it all. And I hope your meeting with Solas is productive! I hoped for more playtime yesterday, but we finally have spring, so with all the splashing in the puddles and running after the meltwater streams, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Gods, it’s so good to be outside!!! Game-wise, what happened was that Sin Fell stormed and easily took this adorable place – mine, it’s all mine! Figure 1. The Keep I love to keep! And, it’s already all fixed up! Sin Fell went around investigating the Darkspawn in the Western Approach because it should, according to the Internet, finally unlock the doors to the rest of this area (and the quarries I really need). So, after a bit of wandering around half-heartedly killing critters and picking Paragon Luster, Sin unlocked the Operation. Hurray! Off to the Four Doors of Skyhold, the place I came to loath wholeheartedly! Unlocked tons of operations, including the one that would give me the access to ‘em quarries, but then, the Adamant Keep won’t let me to just unlock and park it on the map. It wanted me to go right on with it, right NOW! I’ve looked at the levels it was slotted for, 12-15, and all of Sin’s party being 14, pushing close to 15, and figured if I don’t go now, it will be a yawnfest. Plus, four doors, four dumb doors! Went to Adamant Keep. As depressing as it is to fight Wardens, finally I got a hint as to why some players may have a thing for Cullen. He is attractive at Adamant. Figure 2. So was Sin Fell, <3 I did not do much fighting though, too tired and it felt like exciting quest (finally!) so I wanted to save the rest of the sequence for when I can appreciate it. Then I will go back to the Western Approach. Now, I get the way the game is structured – all those areas are simply to give you a variety of mob grinds to level up to do the main story quest. So, just pick the one that appeals to you personally and go for it. Waesten Approach appeals to me, and I am also thinking about unlocking the Venatori in the West, since they are my favorite opponents, and likely will have a pretty area. Can’t resist sharing this shot below, because fighting on the Knight Enchanter is great. Sin is very similar to what I have always imagined a Fight-Mage would be like, and yep, the jedi vibe does not hurt either. Just wish he had the Spirit Blade extended, but it is hard to catch a good shot with a Spirit Blade. Figure 3. Back to back, Sin and Cassandra.

My interior decorator's say its going to take time to get my castle looking good. They didn't like the idea of me wanting to have a Harbinger like throne. They didn't didn't like that every time I sat on it, it would say ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL. Hmm. Do you get the feeling my Inquisitor is talking about something that no one else knows about? Made the rounds. Talk with this character and that character. Even talked with the other character. Why is Cassandra so jumpy? Talked to Dorian. He wants to help. Ok. Talked with the Hawke. Isn't hawk from the bird species? This Hawke looks, walks and talks like a human. This is a strange world we live in. I just need to get 2 more power points so I can do some ballroom dancing.
