1. So. Human mage. The choice isn't a choice really. Between mages and templars, why choose the latter? 2. Got pulled into the past and saw a lot of things. I chose mages before and I always get an itch at the back of my teeth. This is one part where the dialogues / writing should have been more solid. Why can't I ask Fiona / Leliana for more information about the Elder One? It's stupid isn't it? A chance to ask questions of past events, especially the big bad villain, and you can't. Are we pressed for time? No we're not, no one knows we're there. So why can't I spend the next 30 mins pulling all the info from those two?
The devs could have written an alternate path of what had happened before but change it once the time line is reset. The villain could still be named; Corypheus, a Tewinter magister from the past, etc, etc. Heck, they could make up some other stuff for him but once time is reset, nothing is certain any more. The chars could discuss what had been learned but there'll be doubts whether anything would still happen the way it did. The devs could even do some twists if there're opportunities. As it is, they missed the chance to hit a home run. I brought Solas along this time. One look outside and he said the Veil has been torn down. Lovely, we already know how the world of Thedas would look like once he does the same thing. That begs the question; will he go for a more gentle controlled banishment? Will there be a focal point for the tear? Will he use the same rip in Haven since it's likely to be easier to reopen it from there. If he doesn't, where is the original spot from which he cast the Veil? It couldn't be Tewinter, it has to be somewhere to the south where the original Elvhen Kingdom was. 1. Good question. I can't see a mage Inky going for the Templars under any circumstance. To close a Breach? Magic would seem to be the logical answer. I can also see a human warrior or rogue going to the Templars out of distrust/dislike of mages. For dwarves or non-mage Qunari, if you go to Redcliffe, you see a bunch of mages begging to be rescued; some even want to go back to the Circle. You also know that your enemy, the one who caused the explosion at the conclave, has been playing around with time to get to Fiona first. By contrast, all you know about the Templars is Lord Seeker Lucius seems to have delusions of grandeur. Nothing otherwise sinister. The only Templar who seems to desire rescue is maybe Ser Barris. I would think this would tip the scale to mages for both dwarves and Qunari. 2. Very good questions. You should be able to talk to them or even your imprisoned companions about what they've learned about the Elder One during the past year. It could be that Cory hasn't fully revealed himself to those he wants to conquer or eliminate and Leliana and company wouldn't have much to say beyond "...the Venatori speak of the Elder One, who they say is a god..." Even so, Inky should be able to ask questions even if there are no answers. I actually like the Templar storyline more. Inquisition is the first DA game that I sided with Templars willingly. Even so, Inky should be able to ask questions even if there are no answers. I'm thinking that even if you can't ask the questions, Leliana would want to tell you everything she knows; to prevent the horrible events from happening, to give the Inq that advantage over the enemy. Even if she thinks events might change, it is still info that might be useful. But no, the devs decided she has to keep quiet. Sometimes I really wonder how they plan the story, who wrote that part, how did they think it through?? They have time to work out the blueprint and revised it; just like I do for my fic. I go back after thinking about certain stuff and think improvements can be made. Surely someone had thought of every aspect of that event? * OT I played a couple of hours of MEA just now. The game has unlocked due to my location so I threw sympathetic $ at Bioware (I'm feeling sorry for you). I enabled the subtitles. This is something I rarely do, especially for DA games, but I do it now because I'm going to look at the words rather than dead marble faces and Lexi (asari) clones everywhere (not a single beautiful asari or a badass one like Aria or Samara. Damn. ) I laughed at Cora because she's pretending to be a Huntress; because she trained with asari huntresses. That "heroic save shield bubble" pose is a laugh. Show me you can beat crap out of the mobs without my firing a shot. And you're a marble smiling human who's always smiling wherever you go. You'll still be smiling if the deck blow up under you. Anyway, the faces just throws me off; I get irritated instead of listening to what they're saying. The nav points are hopeless too, they always seem to float at the top of the screen when I'm trying to orient myself without peering at the map. I put gameplay on narrative. From streams, I know there are sudoku like puzzles. One look and I've a feeling I'm going to hate those puzzles; they're going to be stupid obstacles to opening vital doors. I guess the only thing I like so far is the combat and MP. And oh yes, I made a female Ryder. I've a feeling MEA will irritate me to high levels so my DAI PT is going to be my refuge.

Even so, Inky should be able to ask questions even if there are no answers. About choosing the mages as a mage: I think, ingame it isn't made clear that you can only choose one fraction. So my ingame explanation would be: 'Let's take a uick look at what the templars are doing and then move on to my fellow mages... ooops!' I would have loved more questions too. I mean, you can ask a lot of poeple pointless things in the game - of course it is nice to know some backgrounds of the people you work with, but come on ... you can't even ask some basic questions about Coryfish in the alternate timeline? By then, he should have shown himself. deadlydwarfThe level 26 demons were somewhere on the map, I'm not at the island yet. Yeah, we have a lot of castles here, I'm living in the west part of Germany, but Iwas in the South a few times, visiting friends. Viconia is from Baldurs Gates. And @domi is right, she isn't the greatest character around, but after Morrigan, I found a new appreciation for Viconia.

There are 2 solid reasons for that 1- Ser Barris is a very good character, much more better than any one in mage storyline really. 2-Calphernia is so much better than Samson as a rival. Samson doesn't really have motives but Calphernia is a very good developed character Mage path has a better storyline but Templar line has better characters 1. The problem is you don't find that out unless you select Templars over mages. At Val Royeaux, you do get the feeling that he's not a thug like the others following Lord Seeker Lucius, but that's it. By contrast, before making the decision to seek the mages, you do, at least, find out at Redcliffe that the majority of mages don't want to be turned over to Tevinter. 2. On this I would agree with you. The motivation for Samson and the Red Templars to follow Corypheus just doesn't convince me. They're angry that the Chantry won't support them in taking a hardline against the mages, so to get even, they support the ultimate evil mage who's one of the fathers of all Darkspawn? Doesn't make sense to me unless there's something about addiction to Red Lyrium that allows Cory to be their puppet-master.

Obsidian Gryphon I don't know for sure about melbella and dragontartare but I plan on playing the game a year from now and would rather not be spoiled on Andromeda in a Dragon age thread.

In my first 2 PT's I never considered going with the templars since Bioware has made us hate them in first 2 games plus at Val Royeaux scene. If it wasn't for a random video on youtube about promoting Barris to Knight-Commander I would have never known about them.

Doesn't make sense to me unless there's something about addiction to Red Lyrium that allows Cory to be their puppet-master. Tbh, Ser Barris came across a bit nicer than the rest in Val Royeaux. He looked, like he would refuse to follow Lucius at first. But I agree, that this isn't enough to make me want to ask the templars for help. I only did it once for vartieties sake. About Samson: I always had the feeling in DA2, that he had no problem with mages, more with not being respected. All he wanted, was some acknowledgement from his fellow templars. I'm not sure, what Cory said to him to convince him, but I can certainly see him (Cory) pushing the right buttons here. Calperina certainly makes more sense as Corys right hand, but I don't think, Sampson is that much of a stretch either, especially, if he didn't get his templar position back in DA2 (which he seldom does in my pts) - he wants power and he wants to be respected, he gets both in leading the red templars.

Finally got back to my Carathir Lavellan playthrough after many weeks away playing Pillars of Eternity! Spent the last couple of days completing Jaws of Hakkon, and now I'm ready to move on to The Descent tomorrow. I have to admit I turned the difficulty down from Nightmare to Normal, because it turns out that jumping into the high level DLC when you haven't played in weeks is not as easy as I thought it would be. (How does this party set-up even work??? Somehow I have forgotten. But maybe it will be easier from here on out now that everyone is equipped with Tier 4 gear ...) I hear ya. I normally play on Hard but always turn the difficulty back to Normal for the DLC's. Especially the rifts in Jaws of Hakkon are a pain!

I think, I might have broken my DAI game. It wont load at all, no matter how many mods I remove. I blame JoH for that, but I don't kno, how I can deinstall it on Origins without deinstalling the whole game - has someone an idea? I want to be able to play my game again, preferrable stable, so JoH has to go Nothing works, I'm so frustrated. I'm afraid, I have to deinstall it and loose all my characters Edit: Definitively broken. I will have to deinstall the whole mess and start anew. It would help if someone knew, if I can just skip the installation of JoH, because everything was fine before that monster came along. I really hate BW at the moment for making such unstable and unpredictable addons - yesterday all was fine and today I can't start the damn game anymore. I even deinstalled all my mods and made a clean merge with only the official patch and I repaired the game twice - it doesn't work

I have never had major problems with it. At most, I had to temporarily disable hair mods to run it. But it never prevented me from going elsewhere in the game. Have you contacted their tech support? Does anyone know if there's a way to save "saves" while you reinstall a game?

Oh, wow, Trespasser is pretty good so far. Nice locations, clearly marked quest directions, story progresses well, nice chit-chat between the companions, and more Elven lore. If only the game itself was like that...

Don't worry, I'll not be talking about MEA chars / story in DA. I apologise for letting that part about a char out but I was feeling annoyed with the unrealistic (to me) aspect of it. I'll leave my criticisms in the MEA spoiler section. * Of the mage quest, the most impressive part was Leliana's end fight scene and the bit of music that went with it. That was the highlight of it all. I remember reading a post about it; someone made fun of Leliana using her bow to strike out. It'd break! True but she had run out of options by then and she wasn't using it like a bat all the time. She strengthened the frame and thrust of the bow with two hands held at the end of the curve and midpoint at the last to drive back the venatori; that's realistic. Last ditch melee attack. I'm pretty sure that's a mocap because the fight sequence is so smooth. I tried to get that surprising heart option with Cullen that appeared with the elven mage, it popped up during the dialogue about the other advisors but nothing. Maybe it's exclusive to elven mages.

The only thing I can ascribe to Samson and the templars following Cory is lyrium. Once the templars broke away, they're also losing the daily supply of lyrium. No doubt they would have stores but with that many, how long would it last? Orzammar were unlikely to sign a contract with them since they''re rogues, no longer draw an income, not recognised nor legally bound to lawful institutions. Since red lyrium is that much more powerful / more addictive and Cory is able to supply it freely via the venatori and illegal mining through the cartel, why wouldn't they jump at the chance to join him? Once they're corrupted, they're going to want more of it.

I even deinstalled all my mods and made a clean merge with only the official patch and I repaired the game twice - it doesn't work DLCs used to be selectable and you could choose whether to add it or not. But that was only for DAO. DA II too, I think. But since Origins, there's no selection menu I think. For a complete failure, the mods are definitely the problem. Especially if you're adding JOH so much later in the game after playing a few PTs with mods. I would remove the mods and repair the game. I presume you already tried it. A clean vanilla reinstallation is the only option left. After that, I'd suggest caution with the mods, especially texture mods (graphics, hair, eyes, complexion, etc)

In Asunder, good Templars who wanted nothing to do with the War went to join the Wardens. I think some of them died from Lyrium withdrawal before they could even do the joining, If I remember correctly.
Leaving the Chantry created a problem that could literally lead to their own deaths very passively. Childish minds could resent the Chantry quite heavily for that, even if they are the ones that left.

(Sigh) and just like that fun ends. Been staring at the map for the past fifteen minutes with no idea how on earth I get around. Light up the search fires, tried to jump on the rocks, no dice.... and walk through says follow the staircase. It's frigging ends. Nothing to pill or press. Thanks, BioWare, as usual....

The primers are on the map, and you can place a marker on each one to find it. If it's too dark to see in the caverns, use your Mark to light the way.

1. The problem is you don't find that out unless you select Templars over mages. Going by the short story that was released way back and what we see in game, Samson leads his Red Templars driven by a sense of abandonment by the Chantry. He follows Corypheus because he offered a sense of purpose, though Samson's also a bit of a nihilist, he thinks that everything is meaningless in the end. So he's just trying to give his Templars a chance to fight with a sense of purpose for a master that won't abandon them before they die. Kind of a better villain on paper than he comes across in the game really.

Well, I did two unexpected things yesterday. The first one was finishing the game Emprise du lion, was a lot of fun as usual, particularly Suledin Keep, and then went to the winter palace. Lately I've been totally giving in to sheer peer pressure and have been reconciling Celene and Briala Honestly, I've been doing it only because most companions seem to prefer the peaceful resolution and who doesn't? That's always cool! But, I wanted to replay my canon as it used to be, and that means Briala leads in the shadows. It also means, no searching for hallas, and that makes the quest super straight forward, so I finished it pretty fast. It was also a lot of fun, things are much more dramatic this way and I like fighting the duchess. I remembered why this is my canon, and it's definitely not only about liking better Briala on her own and hating having to support either Celene or Gaspard Since I finished the Winter Palace faster than I expected, I thought I had time to play a little more So after learning about the eluvian and before going to the Temple of Mythal, felt like a good moment to go all elfy and do the temple of Dirthamen, and even though I did all kind of mistakes there (first, I didn't take a rogue with me, so halfway through I had to come back for Varric , but I was also getting lost all the time and my set up for combat was meant for three mages and I suffered with only two), I had everything ready to start What Pride Had Wrought and it was still more/less early... And because I was having so much fun, and because I like so much that last part of the game, I got completely carried away and decided to finish the pt, even if meant losing sleep This is probably the reason why I did the second unexpected thing: letting Morrigan drink from the well I never do... for a lot of reasons, being incapable of resisting temptation and not trusting Morrigan in the slightest being the main ones But I think I was tired, and I remember discussing here in a thread how little you gain from drinking and how much you're risking... I was there thinking, am I really going to let her drink? And I asked my companions their opinions, and both Dorian and Cassandra told me not to drink. And I didn't. So, after all, this pt is not my canon Or it might be, who knows, I'm a shameless metagamer and I don' have high hopes for an Inquisitor who drinks, I'm fearing someone is going to die because your will is not your own. In fact, this might not be my canon, but I think it's going to be the first worldstate I'll use in DA4, because in both my completionist pts I drink and I don't want that risk in my first pt Even if it's the safe option, I have to say that I still don't like letting Morrigan drink, and it's not only about how much I don't trust her and how much I want to drink myself. I like having a real dragon fight with me and I like fighting her to tame her or win her respect or whatever that fight it's about And I don't like the dialogue with Solas if you don't drink, it seems a little off to me, I had to headcanon that it went differently. The good thing is that you get inmediately the break up scene so I forgot quickly about it. Btw, I still love the break up scene, it so cool. Also, about Rub Some Dirt on It, in case it's of any use for anyone and as note for me for future pts, it took me some time to realize that it makes health potions completely useless, as in it's better to set it so that no one ever drinks, because it's just a movement wasted You have to completely rely on heal on kill and life drain to restore health, and more than anything else avoid damage. So now I know for the next time I try it, that it's pointless to pick the perk to get 12 health potions or to spend resources in upgrading them, and that I should care more about grenades, because I definitely could have used more grenades against Imshael and Samsom and good armor, of course, that goes without saying Also, next time I'm turning Travel Light on too because, since health potions are completely useless, it's shoudln't make any difference. Still, I managed to go through with it up until Corypheus, when I failed my first try, I reasoned that it was to be expected since there's not a lot of ocassions for heal on kill, and turned it off. Kind of regreted later though, becasue the second time was as easy as usual and I thought that maybe if I would have tried again, being more careful to recieve the least damage possible, maybe I could have managed. Anyway, I like to have a challenge set for when I come back to play DA Speaking of which, today I'll do Trespasser and that will be the end of DA for a while, I'm feeling kind of nostalgic already Tresspaser is great way to say good bye, though And one last picture, after saving the world

I did finish the Deep Roads yesterday, and save for a couple of moment too taxing on my exploration handicap, it was fine.
I had Cassandra, Sera and Dorian with me, and the banter was pretty good. Though, in retrospect, I wished I had the Iron Bull with me, to see what he’d say to killing Qun.
Dorian’s banter was particularly amusing with a Qunari LI, because I could just see Sin Fell patiently letting all the barbs rolling off his wide shoulders. It’s not at the point of Hawke-Anders’ old couple’s complete comfort with one another in Legacy, but they do sound like they are still interested in one another.
At one point, Dorian’s romantic banter triggered and continued as we were fighting, the one where Dorian complains that this is not how he imagined his romantic home-coming, with all the trudging through caves and killing things. Sin Fell suddenly started sounding more like Hawke in his middle options (no, I am not complaining, but that was… sudden?), and I’ve picked the: “That’s practically how we met!” and the boys took it from there while setting the Deep Roads on fire. The couple now uses fire mines in the alarming quantities, so the pyrotechnics show is crazy.
Sin Fell leveled up really fast, just hitting level 20 (everyone is respectively level 19). Normal difficulty is Okay so far but have to be nimble with Fade Cloak (that triggers somewhat unreliably) vs assassins.
The plot is starting to emerge, and I am excited that Sin is becoming Fen’Harels/Mythal’s champion of sorts. I even fantasized about there eventually being a decision making point in the series where the protagonist can chose that side (restoration of the Elven Realm as It Was) vs Morrigan’s vision of preserving the lore and stuff. But I don’t see how it is possible without keeping this protagonist, and for all I know they will strip the anchor from Sin Fell in the end of the Trespasser.
Anyway, I am guessing, I might as well finish this off to put the franchise to rest before journeying to Andromeda… Mmgh, Andromeda… so happy.

That's what I thought, finding my way to each location marked with the cross, but actually, all 4 of those thingies that you can actually pick up were across the bridge AFTERWARDS. THEN they've marked them on the map. THEN you had to go all the way back to get out of the tunnel fighting the same mobs all over again. (Shrug)
