Good luck. I spent most of a game trying to get DOrian and Iron Bull together and still didn't manage it. I've done it once, never again, too much bloody effort to get that friggin' dialogue to trigger. Had to leave the game run on it's own most of the time to get something, anything, ugh. I did everything after Skyhold and the two DLCs with Dorian/Iron Bull and one other person. When all I had left was actually Ameridan (and I'd walked the perimeter of the whole map fighting Avaar before actually doing the quests) I switch over to just IB/Dorian and did all the stuff. I got like, two sort of flirts that I knew were the beginnings of their relationship, but there was nothing left to do but Trespasser at that point. I didn't want to just leave the game running, because I'd walk off and not hear the whole point of the blasted exercise. I decided I'd just head cannon their getting together that game, since if the Banter were effed up, they would have been banging by then, and call it done. Moved on to Trespasser. Won't bother with it again. I've never done the Jose Blackwall thing, but considering they don't even actually get together and it'd mimic my IB/Dorian experiment far too closely, I'm not going to.

phoray with IB/Dorian the sooner you start the better, just to get it to goddamn trigger. Hanging around the Hissing Wastes is not something I want to go through again. As for Blackwall/Josie, managed to do it once, was cute, Cole has some interesting banter on it also.

If you want to get specific banter, pick your party and stick with them as much as possible for the entire game. I did this in my last game with Blackwall (romance), Cole, and Dorian and it worked so well they actually ran out of banter by the time I got to Jaws of Hakkon (post-Cory). When I swapped out one of them for someone new, I got instant banter that had built up all game long but hadn't had a chance to fire.

I did make the mistake of doing the Hinterlands completely before Skyhold, but from In Hushed Whispers on, it was IB,,/Dorian/Blackwall. After the nearly the entire game was complete, I started doing "let's go to the edges of all maps and gets rid of much shadow as possible" with just Dorian and Iron Bull. They couldn't have been out of banter when they weren't sexing yet. I remember one time, it'd been 1-2 hours since they'd said anything and I was having problem with a rift in JoH. So, I put Blackwall in again, and bam, he and Dorian fire off about bad alcohol. And I'm like Maybe they only flirt in front of certain people?

The other thing you have to remember about Dorian/IB is it's contingent on the Inquisitor not romancing either of them. Since IB is romance-able by anyone, if you aren't locked in with someone else, he won't be available to romance Dorian.

Currently, I'm on the path to finishing Trespasser for the first time. I also just finished Inquisiton a couple of days ago for the first time as well. I'm almost at the end of Trespasser, just need to collect a few things and talk to companions one last time. And then I'll finally be done with Inquisition. Pretty sad actually. I've spent a long time on this playthrough, and I doubt I'll play it a second time.

I RP'd a one night stand with Iron Bull before going into permanently romance Blackwall. So, you think any initiation at th Iron Bull blocks him and Dorian? Depending on how far into the game before closing off IB and locking in with Blackwall, there just might not have been enough time to get through the normal banter plus all the romance banter too. I know in a previous game, I dragged IB and Solas all over the place trying to get the chess game convo. I finally got all of it after roving through several zones and ending up back in the Deep Roads. If you don't start early, it's very hard to get all of it. On PC you can use Cheat Engine to get banter-on-demand. I haven't used it myself but it is supposed to work great.

Nathan only did a few things today. Went ironbark hunting and had to kill some darkspawn to do it. Got tangled up in some crazy dwarf's scheme to get the qunari gaatlok recipe. That was an epic fail (on the dwarf's part) but at least the Wounded Coast is cleared of the Tal'Vashoth bandits that were accosting travelers (seriously, what kind of caravan would travel there? the road is barely more than a path). Also on the Wounded Coast, he rescued the Viscount's son, Seamus, from other would-be rescuers who had actually just murdered his....uh, friend. That the friend happened to be a qunari made the situation a tad delicate and embarrassing for the Viscount. Still, good to get on the powers that be's good side. That Bran guy is kind of a tool though....

I made it to the Landsmeet and now I don't know how I want it to play out. I've set up Alistair and Anora to get married but I'm not sure if I want to kill Loghain or make him a Warden. I still have RtO to do and I don't like taking Loghain along for that - he really shows his hatred and disrespect for Cailan, and I don't need that just before the big finish. If I let Al kill him, then the marriage will be off, which I'm sure Alistair wouldn't mind, but then Anora will be queen by herself. I could make Alistair king instead but he's unhardened so I'm not sure I want to do that to him. I could have Diana kill Loghain, and then the marriage will still be on and Alistair won't hate her forever. Not that it will matter since I'm planning on her killing archie with no DR....
Ugh - what should I doooooo???! Does your character hate Loghain or not?Edit add: I hate it when I'm accidentally on the first page of a thread and don't notice. What was the decision outcomethen ?

Today, after assuring Ruck that I would tell his mom that he died bravely in the Deep Roads, I perused his wares at my leisure, sold some stuff, then said goodbye.
Then the game auto forced dialogue of my companions. Zevran and Oghren thought Ruck should be put down. I was all prepared to tell them to stuff it when the game literally only gave me ONE dialogue choice of "perhaps you're right." I stared at it,then figured well...he game must give Ruck a "please don't" and then I can spare him as I'd obviously planned on doing.
But then it didn't. I stood there in protest as my companions murdered the poor tainted creature.
Geez. Where is the RP freedom that some folks go on about when it comes to Origins?

I think crafting a Warden that would do the Ultimate Sacrifice has depressed me. She has no interest in reforming the Circle, only being away from it. Her dream of returning home to her people was burned to ashes when the clan in the Brecillian Forest treated her like trash. Jowan, her adopted Circle Brother, she sent away so he would be safe. The one person she fell in love with, Zevran, just wants FWB. She had considered hedge magery, but between the Mad Mage's insanity and Morrigan's completely unpleasant personality, she doesn't see that outcome going very well either. She does not want to be bound to another organization that forces her to serve others over her own desires, the Grey Wardens. Surana does feel responsibility for saving Fereldan from the Blight, so it's not like she doesn't care. She's just lost, because she's trying to see a future, past the Blight, and she can't see one at all. I should just hurry up and get this RP over with, huh? How does anyone do a happy play through with a Warden that would do the Ultimate Sacrifice? How did you finish this one out, BTW? For me, the only thing necessary is to have a Warden that is distrustful of Morrigan. For most of the game, the PC and Alistair have no idea why only GWs can kill the AD and the US comes as a shock. Then comes Morrigan's convenient proposition: you will be able to end the Blight without dying. You simply have to pass the soul of an Old God off to her and her child. No answer as to why she would want the OG soul, and if you distrust Morrigan, her assurances that this won't lead to the continuation of the Blight aren't reassuring at all. This is the same Morrigan who would leave Redcliffe to the undead, sacrifice unwilling dwarves to the Anvil of the Void, not to mention sacrificing alienage elves to the Tevinter slavers in order to get a magic necklace. Oh yes....you can trust Morrigan! Deciding to do the US sacrifice is especially poignant if you are in a relationship. Every conversation becomes sad and awkward because your PC knows the end is near while your LI is kept in the dark about your impending fate. Anyhow, if you haven't done it, you need to do it once: the sad victory of altruism over selfishness.

I never took Zevran with me anywhere, so I never knew about this. Welp, that dickhead is totally getting murderknifed forever. I don't use him much because I always take my LI who always seems to be Leliana. The theme of "mercy killing" is one they revisit several times in Origins, not just with poor, pathetic Ruck. Even worse than this situation is what happens with Tamlen from the Dalish elf origin story: He appears at your party camp as a ghoul, obviously tainted but still able to speak. When you talk to him, you're given the option to "put him out of his misery" which he says he wants. If your PC doesn't jump at that option right away and tries to find an alternative to help Tamlen, all your companions at Party Camp attack Tamlen! It's rather annoying to see all your comrades pounce on your childhood friend and the cheerful "battle banter:" 'You will fear me!' - Morrigan; 'Maker be praised!' Leliana; etc.

LFS I like Zevran and I still laughed. He's my LI this game, which is why I brought him, although it's totally not been as satisfying as it was with Alistair. deadlydwarf I haven't finished it yet. At the point of that writing, I think I was done with Brecillian Forest, the Circle, Redcliffe, and on my way to the Sacred Ashes. Now I've done kinged Bhelen, and still have all the side quests and half the companion side quests left to do. As of right now, I think this Surana is going to push hardened Alistair out of danger by marrying him off to Anora and recruiting Loghain. If I do that, I think she'll let Loghain make the sacrifice because she definitely does not trust Morrigan. I just wrote the wrong kind of character for the Ultimate Sacrifice this time. Baby steps; at least I'm weaned off the Dark RItual, eh? I think I shall formulate my next warden as a Sten like rogue....dwarf who romances Alistair. Sten like in that she feels it is her absolute duty to kill the Archdemon; that she was meant for it. That way, when I get the funeral, King Alistair will say he loved me. A dead Warden that romances anyone else gets no romantic mention at the funeral. Edit Add: I've never played a Dwarf, although I have plans to do both Dwarf Origins and two dwarves in DAI. My husband is playing a Noble, so I have a pretty good clue. And I've gotten some spoilers about the Casteless dwarf. Which one do you guys think is best for the above RP of Sten like Duty to kill the AD mindset?

A dead Warden that romances anyone else gets no romantic mention at the funeral. What can you say? The US is supposed to be difficult choice, particularly since it's thrown at you late in the game. At least for a seasoned Grey Warden like Duncan, he knew about the US and had years to mentally prepare himself for the possibility that he would have to be the one. That he was on verge of his "Calling" perhaps would've made it easier for him. By contrast, the PC and Alistair have been Grey Wardens for a year at most and now they're faced with the US. (All of a sudden, that 30 yr shortened life span seems like a good deal if you can get in on it.) And they're vulnerable to Morrigan -- who's known about the US from the start -- with an offer that's difficult to refuse! As far as which kind of Warden would do an US rather than listen to Morrigan, I would say the human or dwarf nobles. These are people who have benefitted from the existing order and would want to see it maintained. They would also be inherently suspicious of someone like Morrigan. A Dalish elf might also have a similar sense of duty. A City Elf or Dwarf commoner, not so much since they are part of unpopular minorities. As to mages, the Circle Mage would do the US while the rebellious libertarian would be more than happy to listen to Morrigan. The Loghain option is good but it unlikely to be available to any PC who's close to Alistair.

Short UPDATE of Warden Mage, Eliana Surana
The Short Version Eliana has a lot of anger about the Dalish life she had before being torn away to the Circle. This anger causes her to almost make a lot of irreversible mistakes that her companions talk her out of. If intimidation is an option, she chooses it, reminding those she encounters that she is a mage and not afraid to use a little thunder to get her way. Eliana doesn't see spirits/demons as a cut and dry issue, and makes deals with them often. Blood Magic is just another tool, one of many, to help maintain her ability to have and enjoy her freedom. She values pragmatism over emotionalism, but that doesn't mean her emotions don't sometimes rear their ugly head. She doesn't feel any allegiance to the Wardens, but just like Flemyth, one can not avoid a Blight. With the same determination that made her top apprentice in her Circle she will stop the blight and damn any who dares get in her way of that goal.
Circle: Alistair talked her out of annuling the Circle. Default sided with mages because how can you not use the Litany at that point? Recliffe: Sent friend Jowan away for his chance at safety and a life. Alistair begged her to go to Irving for help. Still intimidated the Demon into giving her blood magic. Sacred Ashes: Mildly religious at this point, Surana becomes a born again Andrastian in a Zevran/Varric sort of way. Almost kills Genetivi to protect them. Leaves the dragon as protection instead. Brecillian Forest: Zevran the LI begs her not to kill all the elves. Ends the werewolf curse. (I still choke up a bit as the Forest Spirit Dies.) Orzamaar: Liked Harrowmont well enough to do his quests but... his policies about the casteless reminded her too much of her own 2nd class citizenship as an elf and a mage. Crowned Bhelen. Landsmeet Outcome: ???? Leaning towards putting Hardened Alistair on the throne with Anora and recruiting Loghain. I will probably replay this scene to see which feels most right. Dark Ritual: Definitely to be refused. No doubt. Doesn't trust Morrigan to not be lying to get what she wants. Ultimate Sacrifice: Still in the cards but becoming less and less likely. I'm a wimp and wrote the improper character for it.
Previous UpdateThey left Denerim the next morning. Eliana paid their way on a wagon bound for the Circle Tower for all of them. Well, Sten merely growled and maintained his pace afoot...but the rest of them enjoyed the break from the endless walking in full armor, even if it didn't go much faster. Genetivi's false assistant had said Genetivi had gone to Lake Calenhad but then the research papers they'd found in the house indicated he was headed for the Village of Haven in search of Andraste's Ashes. The thing was, the assistant was dead at this point so Eliana hadn't been able to ask him about whether the papers had been forged. She needed more lyrium anyhow, so not a total waste of time. The absurdity of traveling the length of Fereldan twice just to track down a scholar who might know where mythological ashes were did not escape her notice. Sten didn't seem too pleased about their efforts either. Eliana was sitting at the end of the wagon, legs trailing over, as she set into him a bit, determined to put the Qunari on the right foot. Then, rather out of the blue, he actually shared why he had been in that cage. Perhaps it was because they had been traveling awhile together. PErhaps it was because they were already on their way to the place where that tragic battle had occurred. Either way, "information on whereabouts of Sten's sword" was added to her list of errands upon arrival at the Lake. Returning her eyes down to the ground, the dirt and pebbles of the road passing seen but unseen, her thoughts were interrupted by Zevran. He had hopped off from the front of the wagon, ever watchful for traps, to talk to her she supposed. She felt a bit awkward. She wasn't avoiding him, per se, they had been doing some serious adventuring and rather a lot of work in Denerim. He had had a look in his eyes, whenever she dared look his way in any significant capacity, ever since her discussion with Ignacio, Master Crow. It was not natural within her personality to kill people in cold blood, not even close, and that she'd agreed just to make sure he'd be left alone...well, what man wouldn't wonder what that meant? Well, it was obvious what it meant to her. When she wasn't focused on the next task at hand, or wondering, completely lost, about her future, her mind turned to the quiet misery of being in unrequited love with him. She had not returned to ask him to her tent. He had not approached her for a repeat either. Not directly, anyhow. He smiled invitingly towards her every night at the fire. She busied herself with small tasks and conversations with the others. One time, feeling particularly hurt, she'd allowed electricity to crackle across her hands while looking at Zevran, intensely. Whether intentionally or not, he took it as a flirtatious challenge; his expression seemed intrigued, delighted, and suggestive. Eliana had immediately blushed crimson at the look and the electricity died. The fact that he unabashedly flirted with both Morrigan and Wynne had been a pain she did not let herself think long on. Morrigan had merely raised one brow at her when it happened, not interupting the banter between them while she quietly assessed the silence between the two one time lovers. Wynne, who had felt strongly enough about them to warn Eliana off threw glances of confusion and perhaps, assumption. That perhaps Eliana had listened to Wynne after all. Eliana scoffed aloud at the thought, then realized, as Zevran cocked his head at her, that she'd just been silently gazing at him as she'd thought all that. She rolled her shoulders and sat more upright, giving him a regally cool expression. She had done nothing to be embarrassed of. ----------- Geez. So much for an afternoon of writing. Till later.

"What is it, Zevran?" Eliana finally asked him. "It occurs to me, my dear Warden, that you have not taken advantage of my specialty, as of late." Eliana refused to blush. "Assassination? I suppose I could send you after Loghain. Would serve him right to have paid the person who would kill him." Zevran smiled at the idea,"Interesting idea, my dear Warden. I do wonder if the luck of my last two assignments wouldn't continue, and you wouldn't just end up short one elf for our troubles." He'd meant it as a joke, but she flinched nonetheless at the reminder of Rinna. Zevran realized from his expression that his joking had gone off poorly. He followed behind the wagon nimbly enough as she became quiet once more. Ever patient, it was again Eliana who broke the silence. "So when this is over, you said you'd go into business for yourself. You can't go back to Antiva, I assume. Even if doing these...tasks for Ignacio," her eyes darted away from Zevran's face as she continued,"would stop them from crossing the border after you, I can't imagine returning home would have the same results." She feigned heavy interest in the trees at the roadside while she waited for his response. "What I do depends in large part upon you, my dead Grey Warden. I have mentioned before, I am not a free man, as it were." ----------- Geez. So much for an afternoon of writing. Till later. Very nice the way you laid that out! When starting a PT, do you write something down, a set of beliefs that govern your PC? I should be more structured myself. You must've been an actress or playwright in a previous life! I was going to say, I can't imagine an elf arranging a Dalish massacre, but then after reading "Masked Empire".... It does kind of inspire me to do the Mage Origin. I've been the rogue thing way too long. (An obsession with opening all the chests!)

Started a new playthrough on a different gamertag on my xbox lol (couldn't say goodbye to Aionis just yet). So far it's been fun figuring out this new main character. Zeus Trevelyan: He's a mage and I designed him more after myself look wise. (hair and eye wise). It was really hard to depart from Aionis so I made another profile on my xbox to play him (aionis is in my avi). He's a bit more gentle than my first inquisitor at this point but he will grow and develop an iron fist soon on many decisions. My first inquisitor had an affair with Dorian but this time...I think I'm gonna keep Zeus single and without a love interest (if we could romance hawk, I so would with him).

Went for a stroll in the western approach: Claimed a keep, then ran into some wardens that were up to no good (Started making trouble in my neighborhood). Sorted them out. There was also this tevinter guy, but he tucked tail and ran. Also: new avatar

(An obsession with opening all the chests!) Ever since I started RPing In Dragon Age games a few months back, each play through has "goals." This was my first Origins Mage, but I was still spoiled on the prologue quite a bit from Youtube. Surana was supposed to annul the Circle, romance Alistair, let Jowan do the blood ritual (killing Isolde), trade Connor's soul for blood magic skills, make Alistair King, and do the Ultimate Sacrifice. However, another thing I enjoy about my RPs is that the more I invest in a character, the more they take a Life of their own. I don't know if you noticed, but this Surana has done NONE of my goals. Because the game keeps surprising me. First, I write my character's childhood trauma, because everybody gotta have some angst to be a fulcrum against every future decision. So, since I wanted her to hate the Circle Tower, I invented Templars killing dear dad and dragging her to the Circle. Good. Hate accomplished. In the prologue, Jowan tells me after a random flirt line that he's always cared about Surana as a sister. Now, I suppose one could RP that the feeling isn't mutual and that this Mage has been playing Jowan all along, but since I'm NOT playing an evil person... I let that statement affect my idea of Surana. Canon creation: "Surana and Jowan have mutually adopted each other to stave off the loneliness of the Circle life." As Surana went about talking to NPCs, she had the chance of respectful vs rude and she went with rude. Except for one elven lad, who treated her very kindly from the get go. And Cullen has a cute crush on her. Now, these things are a positive splash and must represent that her moments at the Circle must be a mixture of negatives and positives. A chink in my plan of "hate the circle" eh? Jowan asks for help and Surana must weigh her relationship with her "brother" against her dedication to her self benefit and freedom; how will she ever get rights to exit the Tower if she doesn't toe the line? However, having already had one family stolen away from her, she can't turn her back on Jowan. So she helps him. I want her to be a blood mage anyway, so she doesn't feel betrayed by his secret, and bids him silent luck and farewell when they part. I want her to be sharp and a bit conniving, so I imply that she's manipulated events a little to get Duncan involved in her conscription. And off they go. Alistair reminds her of Jowan, being adorkable and a little helpless, so she feels protective, even loving... but Zevran lays on the flirtation pretty thick before Alistair ever makes a move. So she friend zones Alistair. When Surana gets back to the Circle she thinks their stupidity for trying to stage a coup in time of a Blight and her general view on the Circle (BAD) means they should all burn. But brother Alistair gives a strong speech of dissent, and so, Surana backs down. As a player, I'm annoyed that I didn't get to burn the Circle down. Bah humbug. So, I think about it. I know the Dalish are going to reject Surana for not being the right kind of elf. And Surana has also been dreaming of going back home to the Dalish for years. Great. She'll feel horribly rejected, and in a fit of rage after hearing that Zathrien is lying at the expense of his own people to maintain a vengeance, she'll suggest to the Forest Spirit to kill the clan. Yay!---- but because Zevran is LI, he goes everywhere and guess what? He begs Surana not to kill them. And she concedes. Darn it! Let's go kill Connor, then. Except that Surana wants Jowan a million miles away from Fereldan, when she finds him in that cell, so she tells him to leave and never come back. Okay...well, that means no blood ritual. So, how am I going to kill Connor AND get blood magic from the demon? Alistair begs I go to the Circle. This is after he gives this awesome line about how you're the sort of person who can fix everything. It's a great line, Surana was pretty inspired by it. Surana goes to the Circle just to make him happy about trying. Then, because Surana is an intimidation queen, she picks those choices and gets her Blood magic skills sans Connor death. Weird. So... short version. I go in with a tragic childhood trauma, some basic goals of specific events (usually something I haven't don't before), then see how the game shapes what I've given it. I end up with a half game/half me uniquely crafted character that feels natural and awesome. If I stuck to my original goals, I'd not be really thinking about my character's motivation. It really wouldn't be a character, just the idea of one. That's my RP philosophy, anyhow. And to quote Bodahn, "Take it for what it is."

Ugh - what should I doooooo???! Does your character hate Loghain or not?Edit add: I hate it when I'm accidentally on the first page of a thread and don't notice. What was the decision outcomethen ?
After doing it wrong the first time (Alistair wasn't hardened) Diana arranged the marriage between Al and Anora, recruited Loghain, told Al to suck it up, then killed Archie after telling Morrigan (for the second time) to get lost. Anora gave the eulogy since Diana didn't romance anyone (Tamlen ) while Al tried to look sad.
This always happens if you bring Zevran to Ruck's cave. Oghren has the same inclination, but you can overrule him. Zev you can't. Just like taking Sten to Haven is always a mistake...
I never had Oghren say anything about killing Ruck and certainly never had to overrule him on it. I don't remember about Zevran but....I've never killed Ruck, and I'm sure I've brought Zev with me at least once in the Deep Roads. As for Sten, I take him to Haven just so I can fight him and then gain approval for beating him and telling him to get back in line. What?
