More fan fiction time! I'm still going back through the Hinterlands after recruting everyone save Cole and Dorian. This takes place a few weeks before the start of the the game. I'll put this in spoiler tags. That way no one has to scroll through it unless they feel like. Rowan sat upon a grassy hill, overlooking the Dalish camp. It was near dusk, her favorite time of day. She took a deep breath, relishing the smell of snow in the air. That smell that is cold, wet and yet, smells like nothing. She could smell the wet pine in the forest and the frost on the leaves. Smiling to herself, looked down at the wildflowers in her hand.
"Little Alhana will love this," she thought. With practiced ease Rowan began carefully weaving the flowers into a cornet. Such actions were like meditation to her. The quiet weaving of different colorful elements into one whole.
As the sun began to glint pink, she looked again towards the camp. The evening fires were starting and dinner had begun for most. She could care less. She'd long since dropped off the fat ram and was content to sit on her hill.
As always, her eyes were drawn to the statue of Fen'harel. "Just you and me again, old wolf," she thought. Out of all of the Dalish tales, his made the least sense. No one would willingly banish their brethren to darkness, at least without reason. He was always placed just outside the camp. "Good enough to protect, yet is vilified in Dalish history," Rowan thought with a sneer. Many times she was overlooking the camp and inevitably ended up sharing space with the Dread Wolf.
She returned to her weaving. She didn't notice when soft and careful steps came up beside her. "Dalen," the voice said.
Without thinking, Rowan instantly grabbed her bow. She turned towards the voice arrow drawn. The calm and implacable face of the Keeper stared back at her. Blushing, Rowan lowed her bow.
"Keeper, forgive me," she stammed. "Nothing to be forgiven for, Dalen. I should have known better than to startle you."
The Keeper smiled at the younger elf. Rowan fumbled slightly as she put away her arrow. The Keeper was one of the few that cared. She stayed by Rowan's side as a child, when Rowan was first found. She found time for the hot-headed scout when she could.
"Please child, sit. I always did like your flower wreathes. So do the children."
Rowan shrugged and plopped down on the ground, giving a slight "ooph" as she did so. She gave the Keeper a slightly embarassed look. The Keeper smiled and sat down beside her just as fiercely. Rowan laughed despite herself.
"So Keeper, what can I do for you?" "A huge service for the clan, if not all the Dalish."
Rowan groaned internally. The last time the Keeper said something like this, it turned into a three week hunt for "ancient elven magic." The "magic" was an old boot. The leather was in perfect condition, but the Keeper, her First nor the Quartermaster was able to replicate it.
The Keeper smiled gently. She'd read the look on the young one's face.
"I assure you Dalen, this isn't a hunt for an old shoe. Well, at least not this time." The Keeper winked and Rowan smiled despite herself. "Now, what I ask you to do is far greater...and will take you far from this land."
Rowan stood up, slightly alarmed. "If you mean sea travel, you need to tell me what's going on, Keeper. I'm not good on a boat and I hate to leave this land."
The Keeper paused, then smiled. "Ah my child. You have an elven grace with a brash human tongue, as always." The Keeper held up her hand to avert Rowan's stammering protest. "Now now child, that has been your greatest strength despite how others might think." Rowan paused.
"You walk in Thedas as no one else in our clan does. You've always been half in the human world and half in ours. I need that perspective, for the fate of the world may lay in that point of view."
Rowan looked at her with curiousity and fear. The Keeper was never prone to grandstanding and dramatization. For her to speak like this conveyed the gravity of the situation.
"You may have heard that the templars and mages are gathering in the eastern area of Ferelden." Rowan stared at her. Of course she had. The movement of the mages and templars were closely monitored by all of the local clans. The explosion in Kirkwall had made sure that no elves were safe. Some say that a Dalish mage was friends with the apostate that destroyed the Chantry, which didn't help matters.
"The human Chantry is trying to declare a cease-fire between the groups. Divine Justina is looking for a middle ground between them."
Rowan laughed, a mocking sound full of bitterness. "Keeper, you've seen what I've seen. The human mages only want their freedom. Templars want to follow their precious Maker and drink lyrium. There is no way they'd ever agree."
The Keeper shot Rowan a look, and it instantly silenced the scout. "Indeed, that may be the case. But you cannot deny that the human Chantry does effect us Dalish. Most would dismiss this as a matter for devout shems, but you and I know better."
Rowan fell silent. She knew this to be the case. She was usually out scouting from dawn until dusk and had diverted the clan away from crazed templars more than once. "True. And their decisons could make the difference between life and war for us."
The Keeper nodded. "Exactly. Therefore, I want you to go to Ferelden and watch this Conclave for us."
"What!" Rowan dropped the flowers from her hands. "Keeper, you can't be serious. Me?!? I'm considered nothing but a flat-ear, an unbeliever from the human cities. I have no ink to show the world the love of my goddess. I have nothing but scars! What in the name of the Abyss makes you possibly think I would be the best choice?"
The Keeper, used to these outbursts, touched Rowan's shoulder gently. "It's because you are all of those things. You know these shems better than any of us. You can blend in, without immediately being seen as a "wild Dalish elf that kidnaps babies and dances naked in the moonlight."
Rowan laughed, "Well Keeper, I've seen the Spring celebrations..." "And if you'll care to notice, that children are never involved." The Keeper gave another small wink.
Rowan took a deep breath. "Very well, you've talked me into it. I'll go. If the human mages and the templars are meeting up, they are up to something. Someone is going to take advantage of the crowd. I know it. I feel it. I'll try to let you know what it means for us."
"Very good, Dalen. I've already booked passage for you on the next boat south." Rowan smiled wryly "I guess I'm being volun-told." "What?" "You've asked me, but you already assumed that I was going."
The Keeper stood up. "I know you, Dalen. Curiosity was going to get to you sooner or later. I just made it sooner." She brushed the excess grass from her tunic. "Go, say your goodbye to the Quartermaster. Mythal keep you safe, my child." The Keeper hugged Rowan. Surprised, Rowan returned the embrace. "Come back to us safe." The Keeper walked away.
Rowan took a deep breath of the cold evening air. She was hungry, and needed to sleep.
"Ferelden, hun? Land of dogs and the Avvar. I wonder what's going to happen now. Nothing good, right old Wolf?"

We're still in the Deep Roads, looking for Branka and killing darkspawn. I was sorry we had to kill Branka, I hear she was a real firebrand between the sheets. But Caridin made us a crown for Bhelen and I agreed to destroy the anvil. Morrigan objected at first, but when I said we'll keep it if you want to be made into a golem, she said fine, destroy it if it pleases you, and so I did. After hearing what Caridin had said, Shale believed she knew where Cadash thaig was, and wanted to go there. It was nearly on the way, so why not. The thaig was overrun with darkspawn

The other day, when I was playing DA2 Tranquility Quest, I was RPing that my Hawke wouldn't want to encourage knifing Karl because she really values life And is also kind of hopeful that the tranquility can be fixed some how.
Turns out there are only two choices: Mercy kill him! OR "Hey, I heard Tranquility isn't that bad, maybe he'll be happier this way." It was the first time I'd ever picked the don't kill him option and I just shook my head at the horrifying and absurd statement my Hawke had just said-- reloaded-- and broke my RP to tell Anders to mercy kill him.

Probably boring thinking about canon world states, of which I'm forming 4. But I have no one else to talk to about my DA obsession, so here I am. Origins-------------------------------------DA2-----------------------------------------------------------------DAI 1. Amell/Morrigan Ultimate Sacrifice--F. Hawke Mage Rival/Anders side mages------Mage Solavellan, Hawke lives, Murder Pope Lel 2. Tabris/Alistair as Warden DR-------M. Hawke Warrior Rival/Isabella side mages--Trev Rogue/Thom, Hawke dies, Pope Cass 3. Brosca/Leliana DR-------------------F. Hawke Mage friend/Merril side mages------Trev Templar/Dorian Hawke lives, Pope Cass 4. Surana/Zevran w/Loghain US-------F.Hawke Mage friend/Fenris side mages------Mage Lavellan/Cullen, Hawke lives, with Soft Pope Lel
1. The Sneaky Apostate World State 2. Alistair is a Warden so Hawke has to die world state. I see Isabella as a tough cookie who can handle his death, whereas the rest would be a mess. 3. Coincidentally, these are all homosexual relationships but it's just that this world has to fit somewhere. 4. I wanted an elf with Cullen to connect to his Surana exposure in this world state. Also, coincidentally, elves all the way!
I'm a little bothered by the double Lavellan, double Trev action of my planned DAI. So, maybe I should Qunari or Dwarf Thom instead in #2. Or, it's even possible Sera may replace Thom in the line up if I like her romance arc better. With a dwarf, of course. Then I'd only be double Lavellan, but I like Cullen too much with a Lavellan to let her slide off. Well, mostly it's because Cullen and Solas are race gated. Lavellan/Cass could also be one, but I would then be triple Lavellan. psh.
And I just spent an hour thinking and agonizing about that, because I'm silly.

We headed to Denerim, I wanted to deal with Leliana's lover before she sent another lot after us. Wishful thinking, for once again we were attacked by assassins. But when the cutting was done, the only one still breathing said they'd been hired by Loghain. Then preceded to tell me his whole life story, before offering to switch allegiance. Him being forced into becoming a Antivan crone was just the same as me having to work for Beraht. I said those Elven names are hard on the tongue, so I'll just call you Zev. i.imgur.com/sQeU86g.jpgI was asking around the markets for a lead on Marjolaine, when this clown pulled me up and accused me of killing King Calian. He said he recognized me from Ostagar, which meant he must have been one of the cowardly traitors that fled the battle. After I removed his head, we went in to Wonders of Thedas, and what Wonders they had. I bought Morrigan a ring, and the tome she wanted, she hopes to learn a new spell from it. Oghren hit me up for a sovereign, he wanted to buy the head of an adulterer preserved in honey. i.imgur.com/vwtIVx9.jpgA man in the markets told me that a woman with an outrageous Orlesian accent had rented a house just west of here. Oh, very nice Leliana. A little tall for me though I think. i.imgur.com/jqs5cmT.jpgAh yes, that's better. i.imgur.com/3QNACVW.jpgThat evening at camp, Leliana was unusually quiet. While I welcomed the change, I thought I better go and talk with her. I told her Marjolaine would have done the same to her, and she should not punish herself for being the better bard. I don't know if this helped, but she said I had given her much to think about. i.imgur.com/gmrOvPj.jpgOghren tried to cop a feel, he said I had wiped my feet on the Oghren doormat of love, and then fell in a heap. i.imgur.com/yOAy1JH.jpgAnd while I enjoy Morrigans open shows of affection, I think she only does it to embarrass Alister. i.imgur.com/JDZm9Z9.jpgI told her to get inside the tent, she started giggling and I had to throw her over my shoulder and take her there. i.imgur.com/uwsFvj9.jpg

I started a new Warden in Origins. I heavily modded the game, and installed a new one to change the mage robes through the game. Unfortunately, there must be some conflicting file because the mage who joins the party in the Tower of Ishal showed up naked... it was a bit bizarre so I'm trying to fix it. Anyway, here's Alina Tabris:

I might have to load up the game just to kill something though. That's how I feel right now. I think I'm going to go play TW3, though, so I can murderate some bandits and monsters without worrying about chantries blowing up, or sisters getting kidnapped, or the world ending. DA2 is too close to life

Well, it's either finish DA2 where the Chantry blows up, or start DAI where the Temple of Sacred Ashes blows up. Yeah, my choices suck.

Your options are: save friends from rapists, have a drunken mother abuse you, have your brother betray you, have you friend threatened with tranquility, become tainted as your beloved friend/lover gets sucked into a magic mirror, or have your entire family murdered. Hmmmm.... Dragon Age: The Golden Life

Finished up Emma's game. Anders blew up the the Chantry...again. Emma told him to get lost. Then she told Sebastian to butt out and get lost. Anders showed up later on and she told him fine, you can stay, but make sure you keep everyone alive during the fight. Which he did. Orsino turned into a crazy monster thing that went squish at the end. Meredith turned into a statue. Then they all left town. Varric said they hid in the hills but they obviously sailed off in Isabela's big boat. I mean, it was right there in the harbor on their way back from the Gallows. Cass is so gullible.
Next on the agenda: importing my Dalish US Warden/Orlesian Warden/Nathan Hawke Andersmance into DAI. I'm set up to play a male dwarf since I haven't done that race/gender yet. No romance planned other than flirting with Harding at every opportunity. Hopefully I can make a decent-looking one. I might have to go sans beard a la various Carta thugs we see in-game.

Wynne looked pretty tired after we cleaned out the tower, she's getting on in years. So I wanted to put her through her paces before I took her to face Flemeth. We came to an opening in the road and this darkspawn emissary caught us with a surprise fireball. i.imgur.com/wScNZdE.jpgWynne was the only one left standing. i.imgur.com/FUdmOMV.jpgAnd then she swirled her arms about and whoosh, we were back to full health and ready to fight. So I don't have to worry about Wynne holding up her end, time to head back to the wilds. On the way we run into a group of soldiers attacking a guy Alister said was one of King Calian's bodyguards. We dispatched them, but not in time to save the man. Before he died he said Calian had left important papers in a chest at Ostagar, and thought we should retrieve them. Well we had to go through Ostagar to get to Flemeth's hut anyway. i.imgur.com/L2O3ryi.jpgWe killed the darkspawn that were there i.imgur.com/Heb3Fh4.jpgWe pulled King Calian's body down and set it on fire, because Alister said that's what Humans do. When Alister donned the Kings armour I said, you look just like King Calian himself in that armour. Which he must of taken as an insult, because his face went white and he said nothing. Humans are funny. i.imgur.com/tkVUWvH.jpg Alister and Morrigan don't exactly see eye to eye on everything, so I didn't want to ask him to come to Flemeth's as a favor for Morrigan. Besides, if she really is a witch, Shale is less likely to come under her spell. When we got there, she didn't look like the helpless old lady we had met previously. i.imgur.com/hA4gRet.jpgShe turned into a rather large dragon, and put up quite a fight. i.imgur.com/fFFVB0E.jpgI grabbed her mothers book and headed back to camp for a hero's reward. But instead, she said felt weak, having to depend on me and wanted us to split up. I managed to talk her out of it, then left her at camp to give her some time to think. i.imgur.com/LNnR9Fv.jpgWe headed in to Denerim and did a bit of mercenary work to raise some coin. Sergeant Kylon wanted us to remove some troublemakers from the Pearl brothel. It was an easy job, and I run into a buxom sea Captain who showed me a few things. i.imgur.com/tHb0nxZ.jpgThen he wanted us to deal with the Crimson Oars at the Gnawed Noble Tavern. i.imgur.com/MrBULRr.jpg The Chantry were willing to pay, to have the backstreet's made safe. Master Ignacio also had a few jobs he said payed well. I don't know if I'll do the Humans or the Elves next.

Today we bought the recepie for fireprofing the inquisition. You see, my little Qunari is getting nowhere with her hopefully one day boyfriend. But I know that he likes dragons, so off we went, I think the dragon had fun at least the things we do for love. Will do some potion-fixing next time. How's it going SilentK? Nice to see you posting in the thread. Hia themikefest! Life is good, nice to see you too! It is always so much fun to read these threads, what people are up to in the games. The mix of tales from DA:O, DA2 and DA:I. It is nice hearing about all the little things. I'm only on my second PT, but then I walk everywhere and stop and look at interesting things all the time. Hoping my little quizzy can keep me occupied until ME:A comes out. Ha ha, guessing themikefest has seen 3 quizzy's and 5 shepar's in that time, lol.

Ha ha, guessing themikefest has seen 3 quizzy's and 5 shepar's in that time, lol. Ha. I haven't played ME for a few months and DAI, I'm just not in the mood at the moment. I have been playing a lot of Skyrim special edition. I'm sure, once I finish Skyrim, I'll finish the two Inquisitor playthroughs that are on hold and play the ME trilogy a few times before MEA. So yeah, you're probably right about that I will have that many done by the time MEA is released

<comes in, looking a little ragged>
Being a mod is a labor of love, but it's trying sometimes. The US Election is finally over and I can retreat a bit from the politics thread. I'm a bit spent. I did play a lot of DA:I and finally got past my mage.
--Sided with the mages. I took IB with me for the ruined future. I couldn't help but laugh hearing IB sing "99 Bottles of Beer" as a way to keep his sanity in check.
--Beat the dragon in the Hinterlands at level 11. No exploits, just properly geared. Iron Bull was tanking. I've had him go sword n board since he was recruited. I hit level 12 when the dragon hit the ground. It's my favorite way to level up.
--Talked to everyone upon getting to Skyhold. I forgot that can take literally about an hour to do. Recruited Cole as well.
--Did some loyalty missions. Dorian is on speaking terms with his father; Iron Bull has his Chargers; Used the nobility option on Sera's quest.
--Turned the garden into a Chantry space. I did it for the money bonus. I'm kinda regretting that now, but oh well.
--Became a Tempest. I already had 2/3 of the apparatuses I needed as well as the rest of the mats. I looked at a map that told me where the drop points were. I got the right one on the first try, so it took me less than 10 minutes to get my specialization done.
--Been using a cheat sheet for the War Table. Not a mod, just a list of the best advisors for various missions. I'm not losing the Warders or my character's clan, damnit.
--Did one of my favorite little missions. Cassandra's guilty pleasure with Varric's trashy romance novels. Oh no, Cass. Thank you. It makes me laugh every time. Plus, it was a nice way for the two companions to bury the hatchet. And not in each other's heads.
--Grabbed bits and bobs for the companions (a book for Vivienne, some Grey Warden stuff for Blackwall, ect.) Otherwise I haven't left Skyhold yet to start a lot of questing. My next stop is the Exalted Plains for Solas' quest. I tend start south and take care of the Dalish stuff first.
--I've got metal and cloth out the wazoo, but the game laughs at my attempts to get more leather. I can't afford to go to the Black Emporium for all the leather I would need to upgrade my gear.
That's why I like the Exalted Plains and the Emerald Graves. It'll help this awful leather crunch I'm in. I might have to go back to Fallow Mire and farm those bog creatures. Those guys drop Rough Hide, which can give a +10% crit bonus when applied as a weapon mod.

I did the Chantry option once. Never again. Not only did the chanting drive me up the wall, but I wasn't able to maximize my blood lotus farming.

I was feeling greedy for gold. Alas, I wasn't smart enough to make a save before that. On a RP level, it didn't suit my character at all. She's agnostic, at home with nature. That was my meta decisions as a player, and I'm sure not going back to my Haven save.

As we approached Redcliffe, Alister told me he was King Maric's son. I don't understand Human politics, but I'm sure this is going to complicate things. i.imgur.com/VsPLMLL.jpgBut Redcliffe had it's own problems, unnatural things were attacking the village each night. A local boy took us to meet with the Arls' brother. Oghren thought if there was going to be fighting, we should be in the middle of it. Bann Teagan said if we wanted to help, we should talk with Murdock, the village Mayor. i.imgur.com/JfcjqaO.jpgAt the chantry door, a pretty young Human girl was crying because her little brother had run off. I said don't worry we'll find him. i.imgur.com/vBwVpgr.jpgMurdock said he needed the blacksmith to stop drowning himself in ale, and repair the militia's gear. Plus convince a Dwarven merchant with fighting experience, to join the militia. i.imgur.com/NjET2tk.jpgWe agreed to seek out the Blacksmiths daughter in the Castle at the first chance, and he started on the repairs. i.imgur.com/Mu0TFRG.jpgI convinced Dwynn that helping out would be in his commercial interest, as he wasn't interested in anything else. i.imgur.com/jLVBAAK.jpgWe found Kaitlyn's brother hiding in a closet and sent him back to the chantry. I think Oghren was more excited by the kiss I got, than if she had kissed him. i.imgur.com/UxQgE0s.jpgWe got Mother Hannah to give us some religious symbols to put Ser Perth's men at ease. i.imgur.com/uGdpg0C.jpgBella gave us the rundown on things at the tavern, I told her a pretty girl like her didn't need to be in a dump like this. i.imgur.com/kGso5bq.jpgNightfall saw the creatures arrive right on cue. i.imgur.com/8P6dRR7.jpgWe kicked arse i.imgur.com/qlasL7I.jpgAfter the battle, Bann Teagan gave me a helmet, and told me to meet him behind the old mill. I said, hello, my girlfriend is standing right here. Morrigan said, he means to discuss what to do next. I knew that. i.imgur.com/VwT8I97.jpgOn the way up the hill, we called in to the tavern and I got a hero's welcome. I smoothed things over with Morrigan later, by giving her a tiara I nicked from Arl Howe's niece. i.imgur.com/izHrJzF.jpgUp at the mill, the Arlessa came running from the castle and wanted Bann Teagan to go back to the castle with her. He gave me a ring, to unlock a secret back entrance, and then left with Isolde. i.imgur.com/aPJryud.jpg The tunnel emerged in a dungeon, where a man was being attacked by undead. We slayed the creatures and let the man out of his cell. He said he was in there because Teyrn Loghain had hired him to poison Eamon, and he got caught. I said that's what you get if you hire a mage to do an assassins job. Morrigan got a bit turned on when she heard he was a blood mage, so I said get lost, I don't ever want to see you again. Alister said, hang on, you can't just let a blood mage loose. I said, I thought I already had, did you want to leave him here to die for obeying the Teyrn?
