themikefestI don't think I'm going to buy ME again. So long as I can get ahold of working PS3s, I'm going to stick with that. I almost never ever buy the same game on two different platforms outside of the 16bit to PSX era. One thing I did differently with my warrior, while I'm in here. After the initial demon fight, I didn't have my character immediately drop her weapon. She's human and not a mage. Instead her answer was, "If you want me to follow you into a demon-infested valley, you're going to have to trust me." Cass didn't like it, but I'm not concerned. Valena is an Andrastian of noble birth, a fellow shield bearer and is leery of mages. They'll get along just fine. I have a feeling she's not going to talk to Solas much in this game outside of personal quests. This time I think I'm going to see "Solas Disapproves" a lot. I'm still going to drag him around for his artifacts. One quick thought about those artifacts. Solas claims that it will strengthen the Veil to prevent tears. I'm not so sure about that after finishing Trespasser. I'm beginning to wonder if those artifacts are the same as the ones in Leviathan in ME3. A way to control people and make them bow to your will from a distance. Instead of mind control, it could very well be a form of coercion. I flip back and forth on the Splash artifacts. Strengthening the veil is in line with his belief that he doesn't want the world to suffer before he blows it up. But he's a sneaky bastard. >_>

I don't know about coercion but to me, if they can strengthen the veil, they can also weaken it. I know the premise of Measuring the Veil is that the experiment shows where rifts may be more likely to form. But, there was no rift in that cave and all the rifts in the area were already sealed. How did it just....appear? It's a really big one too.
By turning on all his baubles, did we just help Solas get a head start on his plan?

I think the IQ did, in one way or another. I just found it interesting seeing elves slowly vanish to join Solas' army. Like they were being summoned or called to him. Ooh, I wonder if Solas used those orbs to call to the magic that is supposed to be inherent to all elves.
Most likely the orbs were some of his that he used to put up the Veil in the first place. He probably was trying to restore tears in the Veil in those areas. The way Cory did it puts all of Thedas in jeopardy. Including the elves and Solas' precious spirits.
I'm still a little angry at him, actually. Not so much for being a well-intended extremist, but his hypocrisy about spirits. By ripping down the Veil, a lot of his friends are going to be put down like his doomed Spirit of Wisdom. I have no words for how shortsighted I think that is.
Gah, I'd start a thread talking about this but I don't want it to turn into a free-for-all bash fest. Sadly, I know this community well enough that it would likely happen despite my best intentions.

Thom Cousland, Rogue, noble:
Arl Howe came to visit. He was taking father with him to Ostagar to fight the Darkspawn. A Grey Warden named Duncan also appeared, suggesting that I become one of his kind. The idea appealed to me but not to my father.

Well, it was yesterday. I took along Dorian (of course, LOL!), Iron Bull and Cassandra. I'm playing a rogue this time rather than a mage and we went off to fight the Hinterlands Dragon. After we defeated it, I found an area I'd never seen before. Go down from the cliff and then along to a river or stream which has a broken bridge. A mage can fix it with energise and you find some loot in a bat there along with a message about there being enough materials to construct a dock. There was no mention of unlocking a dock operation there, so maybe it was something that was going to be in the game but got cut? It was interesting finding a new place anyway What area is this, exactly? Are we talking the area in which the dragon roamed?

After finding out about Solas' true nature, I've become suspicious about what their real purpose is. But then again, if nothing was revealed in Trespasser...

Tony ran a few errands in an around Kirkwall before taking his little brother and friends out for a trip to a mysterious prison.
Having played Inquisition a few times now this was all rather spooky. Firstly we went to get the last bit of the Overseer set, which i'd missed in Act2, and that took Merrill back to Sundermount. Merrill spent a bit of time talking about the Dalish "gods", Elgar'nan, Mythal and Fen'Harel. Tony presented her with a ring which led her to explain how Fen'Harel had imprisoned the gods and their rivals, but even she wasn't sure why. (Don't ask, Merrikins, I'm not even very sure he knows). Isabela also wondered who's win in a fight between "all the elves and all the qunari"! (It's elves, Iz...).
That was before we left Kirkwall... Having taken Isabela, Merrill and Aveline around for a bit, Tony took Varric, Anders and Carver to try to figure out why the Carta were trying extra hard to kill him and Carver. I've yet to use Fenris much in any of my games, poor guy. I like him well enough but i usually run Aveline, a rogue and two mages. Tony's a mage, but even Marian the rogue tended to have Merrill and Anders as a duo. Fenris and Anders together gives me a headache, I guess. Fenris and Merrill's almost as bad, plus I feel worse for Merrill. Fond as I am of Fenris, he spends a lot of time in that mansion of his in my games. Anyway, Varric, mildly rivalled Carver, Tony and Anders made for an enjoyable snark fest. Several things made me wonder, a lot.
1) I still don't think we know the full story of Varric and the Biancas. Part of my wonders if Varric wasn't stringing Cassandra along about the crazy dwarf he met in Legacy, but I don't know why he would, it's hardly Cassandra's number one concern, so did Bianca Davri, Varric and Gerav make Bianca the crossbow together? Will we ever know? I HC that Hawke knows about Varric and Bianca Davri, so I guess Hawke is probably as confused as I am.
2)There's a bunch of codices at the start about a dwarf version of the Grey Wardens guarding the sealed up tomb of something or someone called Malvernis. Is Malvernis= Corpypheus (grrrrr, can't spell his stupid name...I'll just keep misspelling it as a tribute to Sera...) or is there something else down there that's even worse? OK, a trip to DA Wiki answered that, he's a secret boss, so secret i though he was just local colour, AGAIN. Since Secret Bosses in DA2 tend to be a bit tricky i guess i'll leave that there....but orbs! dragons! Is he one of the Forgotten Ones that Merrill was talking about earlier?
3)Can't entirely work out why Carver didn't go postal on me like Anders did. Carver being a Warden, obviously. It was nice to have Carver back (glad I didn't kill him now...) and having two Wardens on the team was certainly informative. I guess that the real answer is that he could have been a Templar, or just that Justice pushed Anders over the edge and Carver was hiding it all trying to look brave and strong in front of his big brother. I never worked out why Mage Bethany's blood wasn't more useful than Marian the rogue's either. Last time i felt like Bethany should have had the key, because Marian was a rogue archer and the pig ugly knife thing she had was no use to her.
4)I'm rather sad that Cortypants is waaay better in this than he is in Inquisition. OK, so after a few years he's worked out that people aren't speaking in oldy-woldy style anymore, which is a bit sad because i kind of liked it. But why is the boss battle in Legacy so much harder than the boss battle at the end of Inquisition? Gahh, he should have brought those stupid statues with him rather than the dragon. Also is it just me or is he never satisfied with what he's got? He's a high priest/magister and he wants to be a god, he's inprisoned by the wardens and he wants to be be free (ok, that's understandable), he's free but he wants to be in the Fade.
5)Was the little quest concerning Varric's ancestor supposed to do anything except make we want to hug Varric? Again?
Still, that was fun, even if i did inexplicably miss a bit of the armour set.

I'm writing my character history meant for a Solasmance. The most effort I've put into a character thus far, as usually I start a game with like, a paragraph, and grow them from there. Anise Lavellan
Born in 8:90 Blessed.
This means she has some childhood experience with the Orlesian Occupation of Fereldan. Considering they have a tendency to hunt Dalish for sport, she'll not be a big fan.
Has been to five Arlathvhens. I put them at 8:98, every ten years. If anyone knows differently, I'd like to know.
Although a mage, her clan has always been close to human affairs. Part of their survival thus far is to always put one of their mages into the fray as a spy.
Anise received training from the very same woman who trained Briala and Celene. I've got to reread some stuff, but I may imply that Anise pays for this training with the enchanted rings Celene wears in TME.
Her skills: since she must hide that she is a mage in the world at large, she has the following skills.
-dual wielding daggers and archery as part of her rogue persona -wears regular armor - enough healing skills to keep her going in the field, but no where near, say, Wynne or Anders level - spelling weapons: they never miss, they are either actually poisoned or "poisoned_ with a hex type spell, force magic to make her blades sink deep and her arrows go through plate armor like butter. - barriers to make people miss her and reduce likelihood of injury - since her focus of magic is more stealthy, she does not have good skill at anything flashy. Fire storms. Blizzards, and chain lightning are not her forte. - she is also a dreamer. She spies on people through dreams and may even send messages that way.
She has city elf contacts: I'm thinking of the following. Iona in Highever. Anora's handmaiden. That weird nervous elf in Eamon's estate. (With this background, she actually has an explanation for being so nervous.) She also stays in contact with the elders of the Alienages.
She was married to the clan's Hahren. Their bonding was planned, they were good friends. It was a solid warm relationship, they did well together, and she feels sorrow at his passing as He dies in 9:35, after the Qunari Occupation of Kirkwall ends. He is buried in the Exalted Plains. She had two children with him. Her youngest is also a mage; on who will be trained just as she was trained. Her eldest is to be bonded to the new Hahren when they are of older age.
She's taken lovers casually over the years since her husband's death, but has felt no urge to bond again.
As of 9:40 Dragon, she will be 50 when she meets Solas. Whereas what she felt for her husband was a healthy warm glow of love, Solas will initially be yet another casual dalliance that ignites into an overwhelming inferno of crazy passion she's never felt the likes of before.
And that's all I've got right now. But she's had a busy career I will be filling in as I go. She will have lived a very full and complicated life by the time she meets Solas, as you may guess from the above.

After a nap, I fired back up Valena. --First, I had to reroll her with a different world state. I can't leave Anders alive in the Keep. Varric should be the ruler, not the brat prince. Now, for a brief bit of back story. I might post the actual fan fiction later, but here's the summary of my current character. Name: Valena. Comes from the word valkyrie. Age: 30. She remains unmarried due to her training taking over. She's rather protect her family than get into an arranged marriage. Her older sister did that. Hair: Dark brown, the longest style. Eyes: Green and it wasn't easy to make sure they weren't too bright. Makeup: Minimal as always. Race: Human noble Class: Warrior Tank. I'm going to be getting Blackwall's specialization. It's great for tanking. Accent: North American. She spent more time with her dwarven trainer Ragnok than she did just about with anyone else. The accent stuck, much to the dismay of her mother. Relationship with her family: Excelllent. She's the warrior but is well loved by her family. Religion: Andrastian and already affirmed as such at Haven. Views on mages v templars: Mages aren't bad people, but she trusts the templars more. Friendships: I've already gotten the conversation about Antony with Cass. That was the first non-cutscene conversation with her too. Needless to say that they are going to get along nicely. Solas--She gets along with him better than I thought. She loves history and finds his stories fascinating. It's best not to talk about the magic side of things though. She's a bit techy when it comes to that. Romance: She's got her eyes on Cullen. Cute, with a great smirk and would admire her skills as a warrior rather than make her "a proper lady." After poor Rowan I need a happy ending for a PC. The other thing I wanted to mention was the Golden Nug statue. It came out with Patch 10 and I didn't know about it. So in case others are in my previous position, here the lowdown. The Golden Nug will synch certain collectables to your Origin/EA account. First, make sure you're online. Then take your save from post-main game. I tend to make a manual save upon beating any ME or DA game. Go downstairs to the Undercroft. If you look towards the area where you can craft weapons and armor, you should see a giant nug statue. Click on that and it will make sure that somethings are added to an account for all characters. Then log into your lowbie character. The statue should appear between the stables and the blacksmith. Hard to miss. Click on that and watch up to 5 minutes of "schematic accquired" messages on your screen. Despite having access to only low level mats, those high tier schematics will come in might handy. You'll get most of your Skyhold stuff (beds/windows/banners/thrones,) seed packets as well as all of your armor and weapon schematics. It won't give your end-game character's mats (I was hoping damnit) but you get a lot of stuff. If you have left over cash from a character that's completed the main game, spend it on schematics. Then go hit the Golden Nug statue.

1. You pretty much nailed it with the group effort thing. There is more info on it in the World of Thedas 2 sourcebook. Basically, Gerav did create the crossbow but, as Varric says, none of them worked. Gerav gave Varric the best of the bunch, and then Varric took it to Bianca, who was able to make it work. Because the Carta and various dwarf houses would all kill to have masses of weapons like Bianca, Varric maintains she was just fluke and can't be duplicated. Which is, of course, a lie.
2. Malvernis is a tough, tough fight. Inside the Carta hideout, there is a glowy ball thing in a chest. Depending on who's with you, you will get comments once you grab it. Before going into the prison, go back out to the arena area (where all the traps are) and place the orb in the pedestal that has "mysteriously" appeared (you have to read all of the Malvernis codex entries first before it will be there). Then get ready for a tough battle, tougher than Corypheus, imo, just because you're in such a terrible position at the start. For me, a ranged party tended to work better. You will need at least one mage who can heal, either Anders or Spirit Healer Hawke. Or both. Getting wiped out isn't unheard of.
3. For an archer Hawke, the key should have been a bow. It was for me.
4. True that. While the Legacy battle is quite the micromanaging PITA, at least it's challenging.
5. Just a little background on Varric since he'll never actually tell you anything if you ask.

Huh, I didn't know that. Thanks for the tip. I'm not rerolling Valena for the 4th time, but I'll keep that in mind for my 2H dwarf and/or my human mage. <insert The More You Know gif here>

I learned something new about Cass yesterday while running with her, Blackwall, and Dorian in the Exasperating Exalted Plains. Despite her character card showing her astride a horse, she apparently can't stand the buggers. She asked Blackwall how he could stand staying in the barn with the horses and, when he replied, "They're just horses," she said, "No, they're not horses. They're dung monsters with hooves."

From the diary of Kara Trevelyan: Finally went to scout the Western Approach. Now this is a proper desert. Its beautiful, dry, and just really interesting. Been doing plenty of mining in the area. And...the typical brevie of killing Demons and Venatori. Fun.
Also ran into a draconologist, something right up my alley. I'd love to talk with him some day but he has me going off to find supplies for him and the bait for the Abyssal High Dragon. I imagine we will have to kill the thing. Though she is so pretty. So went to the Western Approach. And I continue to really have problems trying to...well not find things to do per se. But do things in the proper order and continue to progress on levels. This has just been the most...unique of my playthroughs to this point. But soon I am probably doing Here Lies the Abyss which should allow me to really get a move on on opening some of those optional areas and then moving onto the back end of the Exalted Plains (which I love ) and the Emerald Graves.

Still, that was fun, even if i did inexplicably miss a bit of the armour set. 5) Did you perform the Rite of the dead on Tethras Garen's corpse and get the amulet? I assume you missed the helm, could you not get through the magically sealed door, or did you not see it?

I didn't even know about this, it means I'll now have to take my current male human mage origin right through to DA2. But just to finish off my last DA2 play-through. I gave Isabela a Rivani fertility talisman.

I haven't updated in almost a week, so before I forget... Katriel sought to rectify the major problems in all the areas the Inquisition was operating in before heading to the Western Approach to meet up with Hawke and Stroud. The last thing she did before heading West was take care of the three High Dragons of Emprise de Lion. The first fight against a Hivernal Ice Dragon went quickly (despite the Level Ground trial). The second, the Kaltenzahn, is a bigger Ice Dragon and one which could call upon its offspring in a fight. i.imgur.com/EWzdghW.png Sera came with her notorious bow, "Natashina's Ire", (loaded up to inflict almost %100 critical damage per Nat's instructions) and virtually soloed against this dragon. The final dragon, the Highland Ravager fire dragon, was caught sleeping. i.imgur.com/4My0hkZ.pngOnce awakened, however, this dragon proved vicious and frequently called upon her dragonlings to attack Katriel and her companions. When they finally emerged victorious, Katriel's team collected more than 20 dragonling hides on top of the ravager. i.imgur.com/zCZVM8Y.pngKatriel then headed to the Western Approach. Before meeting up with Hawke, she found the area to be infested with Venatori and other villains. After storming Griffon Wing Keep and killing all the Venatori, Katriel collected the last set of "Sad Splinters" from the smashed gates from all the keeps she captured. And using a schematic found -- I'm not kidding -- in dragon dung droppings in a field in the Exalted Plain, the following questionable weapon was created: i.imgur.com/PWgXvLo.pngi.imgur.com/yk03pLk.pngYes, that was a banana on a stick! Katriel then went with Cassandra to hunt down some rogue apostates. i.imgur.com/V4sBfn5.png(Gamer note: What's with most apostates being depicted as elves in keeper outfits? Keeper outfits should indicate Dalish elves shouldn't they? Amazing, it takes my Dalish elf PC most of the game to get a decent Dalish Keeper outfit while these rogue mages who just escaped Circle Towers all over Thedas have no problem finding them. Katriel then went with a team including Solas, Blackwall, and Varric to meet up with Hawke and Stroud. They caught the GWs engaging in blood magic most foul to bind demons under the direction of a slimy shifty Tevinter mage named Eremond. Eremond had mind control over the surviving Wardens. He admitted that Corytheus had fooled the Wardens into thinking they were all in the midst of the Calling through a mental connection Cory had with all GWs. Venatori had then suggested a solution to the GWs' perceived problem. Venatori mages like Eremond would help Warden mages bind demons to create a demon army which they could then send into the Deep Roads to hunt down slumbering Old Gods and destroy them, thus preventing future Blights and silencing the Calling forever. The trick was that the binding ritual put the GW mage doing the binding under the control of Corytheus. Eremond had the demons and GWs under his control attack Katriel's team while he himself fled to the GW fortress, Adamant. Katriel's team, Hawke, and Stroud defeat the possessed GWs and their demons and then return to Skyhold to make plans to attack Adamant. During the brief respite, she goes to chat with her LI, Solas. He's visibly shaken that the GWs would seek to destroy the Old Gods. Katriel knew from studying the last Blight that Archdemons were formed by slumbering Old Gods who were corrupted by Dark Spawn. It was therefore, not a surprise that GWs would seek to eliminate them. Why would this bother Solas? She was in awe of his powers as a mage and his ability to see memories of the past while in the Fade and this is what attracted her to him. However, there was still much she didn't know about him and what she just saw worried her... Katriel was, of course, shocked at what she saw Eremond and the Grey Wardens do. Each Warden mage that bound a demon first killed a fellow Warden and used that Warden's blood in the Blood Magic binding of the demon. Even if this ritual didn't result in Wardens falling under the spell of Corytheus, she felt this went too far. Clearly, this was the source of the demon army she saw in the future she saw while trying to rescue the mages at Redcliffe. To prevent this future from coming, the Inquisition had to crush Adamant. Gamer note: Note with Level Ground trial, the enemy Grey Warden is at Level 27, the Level of Katriel's team. i.imgur.com/SHrLfkF.pngHowever, Stroud and Hawke are a paltry Level 12. By contrast, other Inquisition soldiers level with the Inquisitor. i.imgur.com/6pwyFKl.pngAs the Inquisition Army appears to be on the verge of conquering Adamant, Corytheus' blighted dragon strikes like it did at Haven. A dying Warden Commander Clarel, finally aware of how Corytheus had tricked her, uses the last of her magic to blast the dragon away. In so doing, however, the part of the castle near Katriel's team collapse from underneath them. While falling, Katriel uses her rift mark to open a path to the Fade that she, her companions, Hawke, and Stroud fall through. There, they meet a spirit -- possibly the ghost of Divine Justinia -- who helps Katriel regain her memories of what happened at the conclave. Fade Justinia also helps Katriel and her companions make their way through the Fade. Along the way, they are attacked by the minions of a Fear Demon that works with Corytheus. i.imgur.com/V1soVI4.pngSadly, their escape path is blocked by the monstrous demon. For the group to make it back, someone has to stay behind. Both Hawke and Stroud volunteer. Katriel reluctantly chooses to leave Hawke behind. Katriel believes the Wardens must survive in case there is another Blight. With their numbers decimated by the binding ritual and Commander Clarel dead, Stroud is needed to rebuild the Wardens. He was the only one who hadn't been fooled by Corytheus and just the man to build them back up. One surprising thing Katriel noted during this whole misadventure: none of the other Wardens seemed to know Blackwall and he didn't seem know any of them. When Stroud had first informed them that the GWs were frightened because they heard the Calling, Blackwall not only said he wasn't affected by it, but he didn't really seem to know what it was. Solas wasn't the only mysterious man in her life...

Interesting ideas; it looks like Anise is an Arcane Warrior as in DAO. DAI is too restrictive in that respect; your mage can only have staves. Mages can't touch even the weakest daggers or bows. As to being a spy who can, with ease, interact with the Dalish and the inhabitants of cities, what of the facial tats? Hard to imagine a Dalish making it to 50 without getting them in a big way. A very obvious giveaway. For my current PT, the tats were set at the lightest level. That was the only way I could headcannon that she was at the Conclave as a spy. My PC is young and her tats hadn't been completed yet and she was able to conceal them at the conclave more or less. (Or is there any other logical reason why a Dalish would be at a Chantry Conclave to end the war between Templars and rogue Circle Mages?)

She has concealment magic that hides them for all her assignments where she has to be a city elf in the city. I honestly don't think Falessan had real tattoos. I think he magicked them on there to fit in with other Dalish, while it impressed the city elves and probably scared some others off. But he wasn't trying to blend in with city folk, whereas my Lavellan is. This character is also meant for my fan comic so there will be some fudging for when I actually play her. In my comic, she hides her tattoos until she reveals her identity when there is no further benefit in hiding. In the comic, she is not the Inquisitor. In the game, she will be. She couldn't maintain her concealment magic while near death, so the secret is pretty much out. Regarding whether or not to class her as a mage for the game or a rogue, I'm leaning heavily towards rogue. No one will reference her being a mage which supports her magical secret keeping tendencies. And er magic was built to support an arcane warrior style, as you said. She may have been forced to reveal she was Dalish, but people can't tell you're a mage just by looking

Perhaps one of the elven gods? And who do you think killed him? It is surprising that he participates in the massacre of a Dalish clan, even if they were a bunch of jerks. OTOH, it's hard not to think that he was killed by Dread Wolf. A to being a rogue, you could give her the Sera specialization. It's the running joke of DAI that she's afraid of magic but her use of special flasks while fighting does appear to utilize magic.

spoiler cuz of TME? This thread is super full of spoilers. Anyway. I think he had his tattoos removed by Solas, just like the thousands of other slaves who had them. But when he awoke in the now, to not have tattoos meant you were one of the weakened controlled elves of the city and that you would be held in heavy suspicion by most of the Dalish. It would make things tons easier for his purposes to be taken as Dalish, so he put his old tattoo back on. Fallessan had a bit of a.... don't get involved unless it meant it would bring him towards his goal. So, interfering with Imshael killing them all just didn't fall into his realm of reponsibliity. He also suffered the whole "they're not real" bit until almost the last third of the book, so that may have come into play.
Yes. I was thinking she would take the Tempest specialization as a rogue as well, if I played her that way, as it's very magicky, but I also love it as well. I hadn't thought that about Sera's anti magic and it mixing before. ^^ that is amusing.

Yesterday for the first time EVER, the miner in the Oasis didn't bug out and actually showed up where the icon said she was! I know, right? I didn't have to leave the zone, reload the game, or fast travel anywhere. As a result, also for the first time EVER, I didn't have to kill a second unending horde of [censored] spiders to get to her cache of useless junk.
As for today's adventures, I respec'd Bruenor to give him Hook & Tackle so he could try the yo-yo method of killing everything. The first couple of attempts worked ok, but then this happened:
Did you know there are actual bugs in the ramparts?
Fun with dragons

I've been working on my characters background. I've played so many young, snarky, aggressive Elves who don't trust anyone etc. I wanted a whole new experience so I crafted Eleyne Lavallen who is more mature. She's a kind soul who was raised to help the vulnerable. She was like the clan's mother, all the younger clan members came to her for help and advice. She also kind of believes in the Maker but I needed a really good reason as to why. Its pretty long... But here it is if interested..
Eleyne was 44 when she left clan Lavellan. She was the Keeper's First although she didn't consider herself as such. She believed she was more of an advisor rather than an apprentice. There was another younger Mage within the clan who was much more appropriate as a successor since the Keeper is only 5 years older than herself. In truth, Eleyne and the Keeper looked after the clan together. The Keeper respected Eleyne's kind approach and her wisdom.
Due to them primarily roaming the Free Marches, clan Lavellan visited the same villages frequently for trade. They had always been a peaceful clan and dealt regularly with humans. When Eleyne was 7, she accompanied one of the hunters to a nearby village to trade pelts. She met a human girl of the same age called Lucy. Lucy was fascinated with Eleyne and Eleyne with her. They quickly became friends and from then on, whenever the clan was wandering close to that village, Eleyne would always go and visit her. Not long after, Eleyne's magic manifested and she became scared of visiting the villages for a time but soon began to miss her friend. The next time they passed Lucy's village it had been 2 years since they last saw each other. Lucy was so happy to see her friend but sad that it had been such a long time. Cautiously, Eleyne explained why. She expected her friend to be frightful but instead, there was no reaction. Lucy simply said "that doesn't change who you are, or the fact that you are my friend. I have missed you." Lucy had not run, screaming "Mage!" at the top of her lungs. Instead, there had been nothing but acceptance. Telling her was a risk but Eleyne was glad she did. Their friendship became stronger because of it. Time went by and the two little girls became young women. Eleyne, a proud and capable member of her clan, and Lucy, a Chantry Sister within the village Chantry. But still their friendship remained strong. They both respected each other's differing beliefs and would discuss them frequently. Lucy would talk about how she enjoyed being a Priestess, but believed that the Chantry was flawed and expressed a desire to change things. Eleyne would tell her of the stories of how the Chantry lead an Exalted March on the Dales and crushed her people. Due to being a Mage herself, Eleyne asked her once for her opinion on Mages and asked if she believed what the Chantry was doing was right, locking them away in fancy prisons and under constant watch by Templars. Eleyne always had an underlying sense of dread when it came to Templars. She had heard what they did to the Mages they considered too dangerous or weak. Humans call it The Rite of Tranquility but severing a person's connection to the Fade, rendering them emotionless husks sounds far from tranquil. The thought always made her shudder. What a terrible thing to do to a person. Lucy said that it would be something she would change, if she could. Eleyne enjoyed her discussions with Lucy, even though they sometimes shared different views.
When Eleyne was 28, she lost the man she loved when the clan was attacked by bandits. She fought fiercely to protect her clan but she got cornered by two of the attackers, one of them an Elf. Tamhel charged at the men and killed them. Afterwards, he approached Eleyne but when he got to her, he fell at her feet. He had been fatally wounded. There was nothing she could do, no amount of magic even the old magic she was taught by the previous Keeper could heal him and he died in her arms. She was overcome with grief. She sought her friend and it was then that Lucy told her more about the Maker. For some reason, she found a lot of comfort Lucy’s words and thought about what she had said when the clan buried Tamhel with an oaken staff. Afterwards, Eleyne had more questions about the Maker. She wondered whether there was room amongst her Gods for one more.
The years again passed and Eleyne's grief healed. She was approaching her 44th year and was sharing most of the Keepers responsibilities by this time. She was very much loved within her clan due to her kind and loving nature. And despite her curiosity surrounding the existence of the Maker, she was still very much devoted to her people's Gods as well as the pursuit of lost Elven knowledge and history.
Life wandering the wilderness had become dangerous since the Mage Rebellion started in the nearby city of Kirkwall and there were talks amongst clan members of possibly leaving the Free Marches to find a safer area to wander.
Eleyne visited Lucy, who was now the Revered Mother of the village Chantry and it was Eleyne's turn to comfort her friend in her grief after hearing about the explosion of the Kirkwall Chantry. Lucy had done the same for Eleyne all those years ago. Lucy mentioned the Conclave and how Divine Justinia was going to try and stop the war by holding peace talks between the Mage and Templar leaders. Eleyne conveyed what she had learned to the Keeper and the Keeper suggested that one of the clan members go to the Conclave to observe the talks and then use the information gathered to determine whether or not they needed to make preparations to travel to another area, far away from the war. Eleyne thought about it and looked at the young hunters and protectors, wondering which one would be asked to go. It would be incredibly dangerous to travel so far alone. It saddened her that such a burden would fall on young shoulders. It was then that she told the Keeper that she wished to go herself. She was capable and could protect herself if necessary but most importantly, she had the most experience with humans and the most knowledge about the Chantry and the religion surrounding it. Such knowledge would surely come in handy. Reluctantly, the Keeper agreed. The following week, Eleyne prepared for her journey. On the night before she left she went to visit Lucy to say her goodbyes but when she got to the gates, Templars blocked her way. Lucy was amongst them and pointed in Eleyne’s direction. It took her a few seconds to realise what was happening, but when she did, she ran as fast as she could but the Templars gave chase and Eleyne was forced to fight them. She went back to the clan, simultaneously seething with anger and weighed down by sadness, wondering why the woman she had come to love as a sister had so suddenly turned on her. Of course, she knew. What happened in the city of Kirkwall had renewed people's fear of Mages. She thought Lucy had understood, she had said she wished things were different for Mages. But ultimately, her dearest and oldest friend had turned on her because of the magic that ran through her veins.
The following day she set off on her travels, her kind heart slightly darkened by betrayal.
Her Keepers last spoken words to her were "Mythal protect you, my dear friend, and may the Dread Wolf never catch your scent".
