You also have to consider that the only way to remove Erimond as a tool for Corypheus to use is to make him tranquil. Imprisoned, Cory can still contact him via the fade (or conventionally with spies). Dead, Cory can haul his spirit up from wherever to glean info. Tranquil Erimond is of no use to him at all. The best though, is when Cole calls him an asshole. It's stated by both the Chantry and the Dalish that the souls of the dead pass through the Fade. It's not the land of the dead just the land of spirits and dreams. The only true ghosts I remember seeing in the Fade in the series was the Baroness quest back in DA:A. Besides, Cory probably doesn't care. Erimond failed so he is to be discarded. Like any tool. I would never send him back to the Wardens. I agree it's too dangerous, same with imprisonment. Cory can't go into the realm of the dead or where ever souls in Thedas end up. --I found myself grumbling earlier. I did the puzzle at Dead Hand near the Crow Fens in the Exalted Plains. That's the one where you have your companions light all the torches and light up all four pillars in the center. The puzzle itself isn't the issue. It's the fact that the stupid hold command randomly breaks even in Tac Cam mode. I got it done but I hope that's better in the next game. --Started looking into Calpurina's crystal shards. I honestly find her a more sympathetic antagonist than Samson is. He's more pitiable than anything else.
--Now I'm kinda hanging round Skyhold while Josie finishes up securing favors to negate the assassin's contract. I'll be firing back up the game in a bit and knock out Sera's personal mission. I will make the conversation brief. I've seen first hand if you talk too long. I did, once. Yikes. Sera has a whole combo platter worth of issues. She needs anger management ASAP.At least Calpurnia's story makes sense; she turns to a powerful ancient Tevinter Magister in the hope of resurrecting the might of Tevinter. Samson was sympathetic in DA2. His actions in DAI make no sense at all. Why does he want to feed addicted Templars red lyrium? To turn them to monsters? That's good how? what are they getting from Cory in return? The sub-story connecting him to Maddox is sympathetic; using captured civilians to grow red lyrium is monstrous. I don't understand why you aren't given the option to execute him. Sera is an incomprehensible train wreck. Was there any grand revelation about her in Trespasser?

deadlydwarf Samson saw his life as meaningless. He also felt the Chantry ruined his life so that's why he followed Corypheus. Better to have his men die honorably for a lie than live the life he did. Samson wasn't the first burnout templar the player had met. He told his men that they were fighting for personal freedom and against the Chantry. He knew Cory was actually going to probably destroy the world. As far as Sera goes, there isn't anything huge that comes out of her in Trespasser. However, she'll actually apologize to a Levellan about Solas ditching her; apologize for being a jerk about the slave markings; she'll show real concern for the IQ when their arm starts to go haywire; and warns the IQ that the elven servants are acting strange. "Nobody here needs the services of a Jenny." I can understand why she thought that was odd. In short, she becomes a helluva lot nicer. She also showed some real character growth in the 2 years since Cory was defeated. It's short but it's there. Also, she hooks up with Dagna if unromanced. It's apparently very cute.

Whaaaaaat Who hasn't played Trespasser yet? There are super spoilers on this page. I feel te'h guilty. I haven't completed Descent (though I did start it once) and I haven't done Trespasser yet. I, of course, know that Solas is the villain and the Inquisitor loses her rift hand/arm and that Solas wants to bring about an Apocalypse of some sort. I suppose people could frame their posts "This post pertains to...." and then put everything under "spoiler," but it's not like this thread was ever marked "no spoilers." I think people come to this thread to see the approach others take to the DA games for inspiration...and perhaps to see hints of what's to come. (Yes, some people are so impatient they want spoilers even though they'll whine about it afterwards...)

But what of the people the Templars were supposed to protect? Does Samson have any conscience about that? I suppose one could see him as a slow-motion suicide who wants to take everyone down with him. Not rational, but you do see that in the news and realize that people will do things that don't make sense. Calpurnia being a Tevinter nationalist who wants to see her homeland reborn, but is fooled by Cory is more rational. Interesting developments with Sera; too bad you can't romance anyone else after Solas moves on. (That said, still the most interesting romance I've seen in DAI; I've only romanced the females before.) Sera + Dagna? I can see those two playing potentially lethal practical jokes on each other!

How many people have lost themselves because of him? I don't care about him. The tranquilizing is a tool, as the blood magic. Use wise! Do you saw that Wardens... And he have a chance, but he no regrets. I like the second chance, but he dont wanted. I don't want to have any continuation of Tranquility as a practice for punishing mages. It's a misapplied tool and one that should never ever be done without the mage's consent. Like the codex in DA2 that talked about a 11 year old girl that begged for it to make the dreams stop. There were others that will choose that. It isn't the choice for my characters to make for others. That feeling only grew after Trespasser and talking to the first Inquisitor. I don't care about Erimond. It sounds silly to say but I care about what kind of message my IQ is saying to the masses. It won't matter come the next game but it matters to me now. Edit: I'm not giving Ermond a second chance. I kill him every time. I won't take away his mind though. Blood magic is another form of magic like opiates are another form of a pain pill. You can use it a responsible way as a benefit. It's also easy to get addicted to. I think Dorian's take on it about power leading to a hunger for more sums it up. I don't think all blood mages are evil killers. Merrill was a very kind hearted and gentle soul. Sadly, she's the only clearly defined canon blood mage that is clearly a very good person. I know about Malcom Hawke, but it seems like his use of blood magic was only to bind Corypheus. And that's after Larius threatened a then-pregnant Leandra if Malcom refused. I'd call blood magic the most dangerous magic to use but not the most "evil." ...I do find it funny to have this friendly debate with a hardcore Anders fan. By the way this "consent". As I see this is not really (at least not always) a decision, this is rather a terrified (self-loathing – perhaps, because of Chantry's false teachings?) person's cry for help. Just remember Feynriel: if Hawke don't deal with sloth demon, he also "asked" for it, in the nightmare, but he need only a confirmation, that he will able to handle his skills. But really easy solution to tranquilise anyone, instead to train him/her: typical Circle-practice, due to the lack of knowledge of the Fade's spirits/demons. The intimidate of Chantry too strong, as I see. So: this "consent" I would not take so seriously. Probably no one "wants" to be a zombie. Too hard to accept this "decision", at least it should not be immediate. The question: this consent come from free will, or from fear / intimidation. The "practice" of the tranquilizing need to be very rare, and very serious punishment, no, rather final solution.

From the Diary of Kara Trevelyan: So I kept the Grey Wardens. Despite some reservations and despite some of my personal reservations they want a chance to make things right. They deserve that chance. Same chance i gave the templars in a way. To work for and with the Inquisition, under the watchful eye of Cullen and Rylen. There are reports of Darkspawn still about and Maker forbid if Corypheus does unleash the blight. But they do deserve a chance. The same chance, life, Cassandra, this Inquisition, maybe even the maker himself. All gave me a chance to take a new life out of the old. And again, they deserve the same. But like me they will be watched.
I suppose trust and second chances are the theme of the day. For upon returning to Skyhold both Cullen and Cole were in need of help. Both were terrified. Cole of being used, betrayed into what he once was. So he'd rather be controlledby us. And Cullen, that without Lyrium he cannot be effective and help us That he does not deserve a second chance. So, they deserve theirs. So got out of the fade obviously, picked up the Essence of perfection from there. Which will come in handy. I guess the only question is do i head to the Emprise before Wicked Eyes? Either way off to the Exalted Plains.

I used to make a note on spoilers in the old What did you do today in DA? thread when both Descent and Trespasser were released. Jaws of Hakkon was out for Xbox One and PC prior to PS4, so I already knew what to expect when I finally played that DLC. No doubt when MEA is released, I'd like to avoid spoilers when I play the game. And again make a note while sharing play throughs and pics.

For the sake of simplicity I've edited the thread title to warn people that there are spoilers in the thread. That way folks have a heads up. deadlydwarf Years of drug abuse and feeling used by the Chantry took it's toll. He cares more about getting back at the Chantry than anything else. I need to stress that lyrium will mess you up. Cullen is doing okay but there have been examples of what happens if a templar is too hooked on lyrium. Everything from reason to emotional control can go flying out the window. Samson originally got kicked out of the Templars for passing along love notes from a mage to her lover outside of the Circle. He's always been bitter and the events post-Kirkwall made it so much worse.
Then there is the other side of the debate. I'd highly recommend reading Asunder or at least the cliff notes online. The Templars didn't leave the Chantry just because of the vote to dissolve the Circles. They are leashed and bound to lyrium. The Chantry took them for granted for far too long according to them. Also, many templars don't choose to be in the Order. Alistair and Cullen talked about having kids promised to the Chantry at birth. Even the Trevelyan IQ was an example. They were promised to the Chantry when they were of a certain age if they not a mage.
In eyes of Samson's followers it's more like: "Why should we be taken for granted? How dare the Chantry treat the Order this way! The Divine is acting complicit and after all we've done. Samson is one of us and he's promised to help us avenge the Order."
Samson is just that burned out. I'd call him suicidal and not solely because he's working for Cory. The world treated him like crap so he's going to help burn it all down. It's wrong and dishonorable, but that's what's up. Catilina I actually agree with you. However, I spent literally about 8 months in varous Templar v Mage debates. I throw in the "consent" aspect mainly because I begrudgingly accept that as a valid opinion. Just one I don't share. To me, no matter what, Tranquility is never acceptable. Inquisitor Ameridan is pissed when he finds out how Tranquility has been used and abused. He helped invent it after all.
This whole conversation is academic anyways. The cure for Tranquility is out now. That was the final straw for the mages. Tranquility could be cured and no one wanted to admit it. Wynne and Shale made sure that the word was spread everywhere. It was so fast that the (previous) Lord Seeker was caught unaware. The vote came down and the Lord Seeker ordered the Templars to attack the Circle. Edited my post. I need to replay Trespasser before I can say for certain about the history of Tranquility. Edit #2: I'll start putting DLC comments into spoiler tags again. Seems only fair.

My escort to Vigils Keep was an idealistic young knight, Ser Mhairi. She was looking forward to her joining and being able to take the fight to the darkspawn. I liked her, and I gave her Duncans' sword and the Dragon Plate armour Wade had made. When we approached the Keep, it was under darkspawn attack. i.imgur.com/E3cHsjK.jpgInside we ran into Anders, a Ferelden Circle mage on the run from the Templar's. I vaguely remembered him, though I hadn't seen him in years. Apparently he had been held in solitary for a year after his previous escape. And must he have escaped again before I underwent my Harrowing. i.imgur.com/0DtLmgZ.jpgTalking about running into old faces. i.imgur.com/7WNGnxt.jpgThere was nothing we could do for Ser Mhairi's friend Roland. But she swore to him, she would avenge him. i.imgur.com/MQvO02n.jpgThe old faces just kept coming, King Alister showed up with a contingent of Templar's in tow. Alister was there to welcome the new recruits, Knight Lieutenant Rylock was there to apprehend Anders. Anders had already shown his worth as a slayer of darkspawm, so I invoked my right of conscription. i.imgur.com/JRUo240.jpgSargent Maverlies said she thought the surprise attack came from tunnels below the ancient Keep. So I had her men clear the rubble. i.imgur.com/BUnr7Nb.jpgIn Amaranthine, Nathaniel run into his sister Delilah, who told him a few home truths. i.imgur.com/X7RpjUi.jpgAnd Anders run into an Elf girl, who told him where the Templars were keeping the Phylacterys. i.imgur.com/hXfOser.jpgWe rescued a Legion of the Dead scout from the darkspawm i.imgur.com/V1iEg5h.jpgThen went with her to Kal'Hirol (Note to self: I need to get Sigrun some gloves) i.imgur.com/D8HO6Fd.jpg i.imgur.com/gEGHiDF.jpgAnders was already wondering what Grey Wardens do when the blight was over. I said the blight is over, so this is it. i.imgur.com/45Xq03H.jpgOnce we took down "the lost" i.imgur.com/LKsetqY.jpgI got a powerful new staff. i.imgur.com/FuOSdWM.jpgWith both the broodmother, and her Legion of the Dead company dead i.imgur.com/oxX79Tr.jpgI asked Sigrun to join the Wardens. i.imgur.com/PlwHV8Y.jpg

SO, not that I can play DA again until my exam is done on Tuesday... But nevertheless, I am feeling a bit overwhelmed about the things I have to do in a specific order. I feel like twice, I've arrived at the Civil war just to tell them the war is over, for instance. Or Cullen has actuall told me... Guess what, you already cleared out the red Templars when I didn't even ask you to yet. And you can respond something along the lines of, "Ya, I'm just that awesome." Well, actually, there is a hilarious dialogue that happens in that particular scene if you've already done it. Cullen: Guess where Samson's base of operations is? Me: RIGHT UNDER SKYHOLD! Cullen: *laughs at the suggestion* No... *that place* you just cleared out.
But the way the VA says, "Right under skyhold!" is amazing. So, ya, there was that.
And I remember on BSN prime someone went through the effort of making a Walkthough suggestion of Quest Order based on story narrative. So that things like the above don't happen. Because, let's be honest, not everything done in the wrong order can have that funny of a dialogue as a result. I feel like it could have been Nightscrawl ??

dragontartare Before the dawn. Clear out the Sahrnia mines and find the letter from Samson, before handing Cullen the smuggler letters from the Emerald Graves (or getting them at all). Was too slow at posting. But will leave it for future reference. Or something. Corypheus isn't the only one heading for God-hood. Loaded up DAI just to marvel at Hamin's beautiful hair. And some testing as well. But mostly hair adoration.

Reinhardt Hawke, Act 3, part 1.The qunari left. Kirkwall had a few months of relative calm, although in the air was palpable tension. Calm before the storm. After the death of the Baron, Meredith the only power in Kirkwall, and seems she too much love this position. Anders finally moved to me, but still nervous; he sees Templars everywhere. Sometimes really unbearable, but it got me thinking, how I can help him. I remembered the old cellar key to the passageway into the clinic, I gave it to him. Anders became enthusiastic. He said, together we are able for everything. But in this moment I want only one thing. Later we have much time for save the world. I'm afraid it will happen sooner than I thought. On the main square Orsino harangued against Meredith. Meredith arrived in the company of the Templars, and tried to stop Orsino. Orsino wanted my opinion. I'm with him, this clear: Meredith must go. Meredith argued with using my mother's death. Bitch! Of course, she insists on the power, and there are no one to deprive her. Elthina "neutral”. I can not decide whether she is idiot or malicious. Or both – according to Anders... Maybe something happens. Some nobles want to support me against Meredith. Promising. Aveline probably also fed up with templars. Yesterday I stopped by the clinic, for Anders. He even more strangely behaved than usuall: he avoided my gaze while spoke, never did it before. He asked me to help him to separate Justice and he. Something Tevinter magic potion need for it. I think, this is simply bullshit. Dangerous bullshit! In the last three years was no problem with them! I don't want to risk his life for a doubtful experiment! Nevermind, he want it. I can't convince him, very determined. He says he can easier to represent the mages, if they not see him as an Abomination. This is probably true. Okay, I'd rather help him, I don't want that he try it alone. Anyway he need some very interesting ingredients... Crystallized dragon shit of the Bone Pit. Ugh! Meanwhile, I found out that there is trouble with Dragon Pit mines. At least same place. Let's go! In the mine every worker was dead, and a bloody high dragon tried to kill us. We survived, and have enough … ingredient. Good. I hope it will not be wrong. I'm over of the first real confrontation with Anders. He doesn't trust me. I did not give him a reason! And I don't know, I should trust him. I'm confused. I'm angry. He lied to me: he doesn't want separation, and never wanted. On the one hand, that he doesn't need to drink some kind Tevinter dragonshit potion, is quite reassuring. On the other hand, what the fuck do he want? What for he needed the pile of dragon shit? And now he wants me to help him to distract the attention of Grand Cleric, but he does not tell me, WHY. He says, he is the cause of mages... but who the hell am I to him?! He doesn't want to involve me... but he already involved me! How I can protect him if he doesn't allow it?! He says if I love him, I will help him... then he added: easy to support a cause, as long as there is no victim. I love him, but I can't act blindly... ...ButI can't let him alone. He vaguely told me, what he wants. A rebellion, it's clear – in some bloody way. And I think, I start to understand him. Almost. Perhaps. If this is what I guess...
So: I decided, I help him. (Eh, Love, you don't need to force me, just trust me! I still believe you, why do you not believe me? But I worry about you!)
And I still want to free Bethany. I swore when they took Bethany into the Circle, and I abide by my oath, no matter what it costs.
And I still love Anders – until the day we die... Okay, let's go to Elthina, I will speak with her from the Mages. Anders wants a chance to convince her. I think this is a very nice idea and totally needless quibbling. This latter was proved. „Both sides have good arguments and mistakes” – she says. Idiot! Just do, what you must, my love, I'm with you! At home Anders behave strangely again. He said he loves me. I know. Me too. But what he want to say with this? When someone says something like, mostly means betrayal. I thought, we are beyond all misunderstanding already... Okay, he just spoke about Justice/Vengeance. And he says, I should never blame myself, about what will happen. Don't worry, love, this is my fight too, just as yours. We went again to Elthina, this time Sebastian called us. Elthina spoke about a planned Exalted March against Kirkwall. What? And... Elthina against the investigation? But why? No matter she want me to convince the agent of the Divine, that the Exalted March is unnecessary. Me. The agent told that Elthina in danger. Let's go, warn her! Surprise! She don't care about it. Okay, I did what I could, I wash my hands of. Isabela was waiting for me at home. I almost forget Castillon! He still want to kill her. If I did not handed over her to Arishok, I will not let Castillon to kill her! As Isabela said, we found Castillon's man in the Blooming Rose. I sold him Isabela, and as we discussed, I followed her tracks with Anders and Fenris. Velasco was easy prey, just as Castillon. A few days later I visited Fenris. Aveline was there, they were arguing about something. Aveline angrily stormed off, Fenris swore... as always. What's wrong again? My sister – he answered. And do you think, the swearing will help? She wait for me, in The Hanged Man, but... ...but? Why are we still here? Sebastian and Anders came with us, because Fenris suspected trap. Of course, he was right. His sister betrayed him, Danarius already was waiting for us with some tevinter slave hunter. I thought, stronger... Fenris executed him, then he took his sister. I do not let him to kill her. He looked at me angrily, but I knew that even will be grateful for it. I assurred him from my friendship, then I left him alone for now. Later we'll talk. A few days later, we talked. I feel, he will able to leave his past. Then I was go to Varric, who said that there are ghosts in the estate of Bartrand, and in this condition he never will able to sell it. I promised to help, but first stopped by my favorite uncle. Gamlen was nicer than usual (although not much), but when I found the letter on his desk, he became that grumpy old bastard again what he was normally. The letter is quite interesting. It mentions something valuable gem. Gamlen finally told me, that he lost his wife because of this gem. Let's check it! The whole thing was like a stupid treasure hunt game. The point is that the whole thing was managed by Gamlen's daughter, because she wanted to know who is her father. Great. Why she had not knock on the door? It would have been too easy. Nevermind, I hope that if he get to know his daughter, that can help Gamlen to be less dickhead... When we were in the Alienage related to uncle Gamlen letter, I visited Merrill. She still has not repaired the mirror, and asked me to accompany her to the „spirit”, what closed in the old statue. Maybe it can help. Oh, I think the „spirits” are always eager to help... All right, what could be wrong? Reluctantly, but finally Anders and Fenris came with me. It was not a good idea. This two in perfect harmony scolded Merrill during the whole way. Never was before such an agreement among them. In the Cavern the statue was empty, the demon was missing. Marethari arrived, she told, that she closed the demon in her own body. She sacrificed herself to save Merrill. What a foolish, noble act! We had to kill her with the demon. The clan waited for the Keeper. When they realized that she died, they wanted to kill us. I reassured them that Merrill will not come back. Poor girl, I hope she can find a new purpose. Today we went into Bartrand's estate. Not a ghost was the cause of oddities. A fragment of this bloody red lyrium idol still was there. I gave it to Sandal. Probably he is able to utilize. To be continued...

Catilina, is Isabela still using Heartbreaker and Backstabber, or have you done like I did and just made all the daggers look like that? Although I noticed the woman that looks like Leliana still has different daggers. When we returned to the Keep, an angry Dwarf was waiting for us. I asked if she had an appointment, but she wouldn't be put off. Seems Oghren had forgot to mention that he was running off to join the Grey Wardens.

I found a stray cat at the Keep, but it seems I can't swing it anywhere in Amaranthine without hitting someone I know. Wynne wanted me to look out for a botanist mage, and tell her to go to some all important meeting. Velanna pointed us toward an old silverite mine in the north, but on entering we were hit with a sleeping spell.

Haha, yes, this is Isabela's old weapon, I forget to change it

Issala Adaar spent the morning wrapping up the Storm Coast before heading to the Fallow Mire to rescue some some soldiers. She is soaked to the bone at this point.
Next she's gonna fix the breach, what could go wrong?

From the Diary of Kara Trevelyan: Back to the Exalted Plains to enjoy in one of my favorite pastimes, unwinding after a long day and a difficult time in the Fade. Hunting Snoefleur and killing the undead...I suppose again. Also helped Cassandra hunt down a rogue...mage? But she seemed greatly appreciative so hopefully that can help smooth over any ruffled feathers over the whole 'Keep the Warden' thing.
And whoever decided that summoning all this undead was a good idea. I am going to find them...and have Bull rip them apart limb for limb. Or maybe pull a Sera and shoot them in their...breeches. So that was perhaps the most frustrating gameplay session for this entire playthrough. And perhaps it was because I was tired, but yeah, it was difficult. And very frustrating. Was clearing out the Undead Ramparts in the West and ran into a magical barrier...had Dorian..his staff had no effect. Went to go get Viv...no effect with her staff. Solas. No effect. Went back to Dorian...it melted like swiss cheese. One of the things that are becming more annoying with each playthrough is those stupid barriers. The game is lucky I love it so much...

colfoleySounds like you ran into a promoted barrier. The only way to take them out is by using the correct element against them, and even then it takes forever. Alternatively, you can save/reload until the dice roll you a normal barrier instead.

Has anyone ever played the DAI main story solo? I read in another thread about completing In Hushed Whispers solo, but the game doesn't allow that. The only time I ran without a party during a main story quest was Wicked Eyes Wicked Hearts. My Assassin was OP.
