In Hushed Whispers. There's nothing that important behind rogue door, so I figured I don't need one and took Cassandra and Bull. Had an amusing moment after getting both of them from their prison cells, where Cassandra's health went from full + full guard to half health bar in fight that shouldn't even scratch her. Confused, I looked around and it turned out Bull pushed her down the platform. Seems someone was too eager to deal with Venatori In the end, allied with mages. Back at Haven felt a mighty need to smack Cullen with my staff, alas no renegate interrupt. Hinterlands cleaning next. It went rather smoothly (at least as smoothly as Hinterlands can go), and that includes Fereldan Frostback. It's been a while since I tackled her underleveled, so figured why not, but it seems 3 mages and one guard-generating Bull were too much for her. I have to save her for much, much later, like lvl20+ later. That's where real fun begins. Then I dared to turn toward Hafter's Woods. Yes, I barely entered the pass between Lake Luthias and Hafter's Woods. I did have much more "interesting" encoutner later, where I couldn't get out of combat because of 5 large bears, 3 regular ones and 2 bandit packs, unfortunately I didn't capture it. Cassandra was lucky she had 3 mages dropping barriers on her.There's quite a few agents you can recruit and with each pt I can't help but wonder how cool it'd be if, instead of NPCs we'll never hear from again, it was actually how we recruit MP characters. They deserved more presence in SP. Anyway, Hinterlands done (at least until I get Dorian's and Cassandra's quests), next either In Your Heart Shall Burn or Storm Coast cleaning.

The mayor died. The rest survived. I'm playing on easy thought (because I'm lazy and I don't wan to micro-manage). I had to pay Dwyn 100 silvers to join the fight as persuade failed (getting paid by the merchant in Lothering was useful after all). I didn't bother to recruit the barkeeper or force him to serve ale for free. I did get the elf spy to fight thought. Got the barrel of oils. No protective charms for the knights, failed the persuade, but they all survived. I failed to get Belvin's sword too, requires persuasion/intimidate to just make him talk about it. He ran off to the Chantry. As for the Anvil of the Void, I never sided with Branka. I guess I'll do it now, makes more sense as a dwarf. I also never annulled the Circle or sided with the Werewolves, but I don't see why I would side with the Werewolves with Rius (that requires persuasion checks anyway, Rius isn't too good with them). hoh, that's not so bad...I generally have several people die...unless I use cheats...which I may or may not have done on my canon playthrough
Ah well, at least Rius didn't decide to just leave the village to it's fate...I guess he has a heart after all...even if it's just because "if they're dead they can't pay me" Well Isolde really tries to guilt-trip you into not killing Connor. It's like the game wants you to either use Jowan or the Magi from the Circle. Sorry game not interested today. She does doesn't she? Though gotta say, her voice actress does superb work on the line if she's the one killing Connor...it made me cry the first time around Isolde: close your eyes for mother

Since Thomas Hawke was already at the Wounded Coast, he figured he might as well stop in at that apostate's shop in the Tal-Vashoth camp. He got a new belt for Fenris and left. He figured he might as well check Sundermount to see if Tarohne had hidden a book there. Putting a book there would mean that book was just as out of the way as the ones at the Bone Pit and on the Wounded Coast are... or almost as much out of the way, since there's a Dalish clan there. If Tarohne hid these books after the Dalish arrived, she might have thought putting a book near the Dalish clan might allow her to corrupt their Keeper and First. Which would make hiding a book there a decent balance between the minimal risk and reward of hiding one in the wilderness, and the huge risk and potentially huge reward of hiding one where it could subvert the government of Kirkwall. So Hawke went back through the Dalish camp, and eventually found a newly opened cave near their camp... that turned out to be another dwarven ruin in the wilderness. (It'd be kind of weird if the Dalish clan turned out to be camping right on top of a slaver den, considering that the Dalish base their cultural identity on resisting the Tevinter slavers and the Alienage culture that is almost as bad... but that's a digression.) Anyway, Thomas walked in, and was immediately confronted by a couple of flamethrowers. How nice. He waited for them to sputter out, and then walked straight into a fight with a stone golem. Scary, but not challenging: Hawke used Mark of Death, Merrill used Hex of Torment, and with the two abilities boosting everyone's damage output the golem went down pretty fast. Then they went into another room, where another golem woke up, and a whole bunch of walking corpses materialized. Then a rage demon appeared just as the golem stopped moving. The gang had a harder time there, but they just bunched up so that there wasn't a single enemy who had a clear shot at one of the squishier party members, and then killed and looted all of the monsters. The next room had a golem shopkeeper, guarded by a whole bunch of demons. First the party had to deal with a bunch of corpses rising and shooting bows at them, then there was another wave of abominations, I think there was a third wave of something else... and then a Revenant and an Arcane Horror materialized at once. With all of this living under their camp, you'd think Merrill would be the least of Pol's concerns. Anyway, the gang got through all of this (frequently regrouping so that everyone was close to the only party member who could actually take a punch) and then Thomas tore apart the book. It retaliated with one wave of corpses led by a revenant. That barely even rates a mention after what the party just fought through. Tearing up that evil tome somehow gave Thomas the knowledge that there was one more in Darktown, but Thomas figured it was probably getting late, so he decided to head back to Kirkwall to handle his midnight meeting with Emeric... ... I have a confession to make here: I'd somehow gotten the impression the false meeting was set in Darktown, where Thomas and Emeric first met, and instead it turned out it was in an out-of-the-way alley in Lowtown. So I have to take back what I said about this being a credible thing Emeric could think Hawke would suggest. Anyway, by the time Thomas got there, Emeric was dead on the ground, with a shade standing over him. (Maybe they could have prevented this if they'd camped out in the meeting place, or asked where Emeric might be patrolling so that they could warn him before they went? Oh well.) When the party approached, a whole bunch more shades materialized, and the party had a fight on their hands... though not as much of one as they'd had reaching the second-last of Tarohne's evil tomes. There was a second wave, but that's nothing compared to three or four of them. Then the templar who'd told Hawke about this midnight meeting arrived. (I don't know if Hawke knows her name, so I'm not going to use it. Also where was she two minutes ago!?) She quickly realized that: - Emeric was dead
- The meeting was a set-up
- The only credible reason this would happen is if Emeric had been right about there being a serial killer
- The serial killer was a terrifying blood mage
- Gascard wasn't the worst possible suspect
Despite all of the reason to suspect Gascard, Thomas was pretty sure he wasn't the killer, and told the surviving templar as much. She said that she would take personal responsibility for hunting down this maleficar, and to come to her if Hawke learned anything. Well, it's not like any leads are going to materialize tonight, right? So Thomas has some time to destroy that last evil tome to make sure it can't corrupt anyone. As of writing, he's in Darktown at the entrance to the pit Tarohne placed it in, and is ready to start doing exactly that.

So Rius took the opportunity to visit Orzammar a little bit. First, checking the plaza at the entrance with vendors and such. He found a few people willing to pay him for some jobs: - finding nugs (super easy) - delivering a letter to the Circle of Magi, a young smith-caste dwarf wants to learn magic...the theorical part of it anyway. - finding a missing son...he's been missing for 5 years, will probably find a corpse He ignored a dwarf wearing Chantry robe thought. The guy looked funny. Then Rius went to the slum to find his mother and sister. He didn't find them, the house was empty. He found an old acquaintance and learned that the Carta had a new boss and his pal Leske was still alive at least. He went back to the plaza to check the Tavern, he didn't find much there. He did learn that both pretender to the throne wanted to find the missing Paragon Branka and were sending expeditions to the Deep Roads soon. He decided to move to the Diamond Quarter where he could probably get his request of help going. Once he reached the Diamond Quarter, his sister Rica showed up. All dolled up in nice clothes and gold. She was the mother of the a grandson of the former king. Mom and her now lived in the palace. That somewhat settled whom Rius would have to support to get help: Bhelen it is. Doing otherwise might put his sister and mother in danger.

*throws potatoes at DAI* Now that is not cool. I wanted to craft my go-to armor, but lo and behold, it seems it's bugged in my current pt. Instead of scarf I get that damn mail shirt underneath on every flipping tier. And I know it's bug on his saves specifically, since every other character have scarf, so I doubt repairing the game would help. I'll either have to dig for mod or resign myself for fate without my scarf I'll also try and see if new pt has the same problem. If the problem persist, I'll seriously need to look for solution. I won't abandon my favourite armor. But enough salt for now. What my Dalish boy has been up to? Storm Coast cleaning first. In my last pt I completely forgot about A Glowing Key quest and Rebel Mage that spawns for it, so this time I tried to find him. Gave up after 3rd round thru the whole area. I'll run into him. Eventually. I hope. Aside from that, recruited Blades of Hessarian, watched giant vs dragon fight (I butted in to make sure giant dropped loot for me, also missed it in my last pt) and almost fell down the hill while Frost Stepping thru the enemies. But being self-proclaimed Frost Step master, I gracefully avoided it. Read: I still don't know how I didn't fall down.In Your Heart Shall Burn. Red Templar decided he'll not be ignored. "Don't mind me, I'm just admiring the scenery." After saving everyone at Haven, watching Solas change staves between every cutscene (where he keeps them?... wait, I don't want to know) and fighting with my obsessive screenshot making during the blizzard walk, we got to Skyhold. And I was lost in cutscenes again. Surprisingly, it seems Aien's standing with some companions is higher than in his previous pt, even though I chose the same dialogue options. Probably because I shuffled them more between quests and finished more before reaching this point. Not that I mind, although it did add even more cutscenes. As you can probably guess it was somewhere between one cutscene and another, I made that horrid discovery about armor. I'm not that desperate to restart after 20 hours if it really turns out to that only current pt saves are bugged. I think As for specialization, I was torn between Rift Mage and Knight-Enchanter, but between wonderful synergy Rift Mage has with Winter tree and Spirit Blade rework completely destroying KE fantasy for me, I decided on Rift Mage. So after getting two tomes from Venatori mages in Hinterlands and one from quick trip to Exalted Plains, Aien got some new skills to show off. Next, some companion quests, most likely rest of Exalted Plains and of course trying to fix that damn armor.

Spirit Blade rework completely destroying KE fantasy for me Blade of Tidarion > Spirit Blade Put different elemental runes on the Tidarion, abuse Energy Barrage (24 hits instead of 12) while hitting things on melee and regenerating mana like the melee classes do with stamina. Put some guards/heal on hit and become indestructible. Now I want to replay a KE in DAI...that wasn't the plan.

I did give my KE absurdly OP Blade of Tidarion post-rework, since I had to finish Trespasser with her, somehow. But it just doesn't work for me Plus it's 2H, while the idea of wielding staff + sword was much more appealing to me. As for masterworks, I usually went with guard on hit + Walking Fortress. With Energy Barrage, I had it active more often than Blackwall who has actual skill.

You can still go to the Circle as you promised, but after anulling the Circle still be forced to kill Connor (or do the blood magic ritual if Jowan is not already dead or gone). "We came too late the save the first Enchanter... " Though to be honest, the first time I wanted to make that happen (after learning that it all hinges on him), my party was too powerful and finished off Uldred too quickly. At the same time it had me discover the "they survived, but too much risk - so lock them all up and gimme your bucket helmets" option. Yeah...Raelyn wasn't to fond of magic either... *Neria Surana just un-friended Raelyn Tabris* ....
Anyhow. I finally managed to sort through my screenshots from "Surana's adventures in Holy Dust Bucket Land". I actually played this like two months ago, so it is bound to be a bit inconsistent.
Surana and party travelled back to Redcliffe for an update. Unfortunately there was nothing new to tell, except more ramblings about supposed miracles. So an annoyed Surana grabbed her staff and went to Denerim to meet Thedas' equivalent of Sir John Mandeville. Guy wasn't home, so we were greeted by his weird assistant dude, who pointed towards Lake Calenhad. Arriving there and questioning the locals gave a fishy impression, the party received a call from Admiral Ackbar and was promptly harassed by some odd bunch of thugs. Those were exploded, and we could also watch a templar fighting barehanded. So it was back to Denerim and interrogating that weird assistant. Turned out to be an imposter who tried to fry the party and yelled some nonsense about Andraste. Sure, Surana is used to that, but this kind of nonsense appeared new. A note was found which pointed towards a small village called Haven somewhere in the Frostbacks. Running to the other ass-end of Ferelden, yet again. Surana felt the unexplainable need to have Sten accompany her to Haven and after arrival, he promptly started a strategy discussion, which was resolved without violence. The village was giving off another fishy vibe, complete with creepy kids, and the party found a bloody mess - human of course - in one of the houses. After Zevran invoked the "village with dark secret"-trope, the local shop was visited and the owner turned out to be rather sensitive about peeking into his backrom, he made a mess of himself.
Combing through the village, only the Chantry-on-the-hill was left. Of course even creepy backwater villages have Chantries. Though this one turned out to be led by a male who was a mage as well. Surana would have been intrigued if it weren't for them all being hostile. Found the injured Chantry Mandeville in the back room and left him there. At least he was useful for having observed how the secret door is to be opened. "I might be old, but a cynical Golem, a sour ex-circle blood mage, an undead cultist archer, an Antivan Crow gone AWOL, his pet spider and a swamp witch... to me this soounds like an army." Looks like Morrigan found something. Is that the urn we're looking for? Sadly, it wasn't, so on they went, right into a barrage pop-up of baby lizards. These were turned inside out and exploded. Horrible smell.
Found some humongous eggs next. Someone hungry? I'm very sure that Zevran's spider rolled at least one of these into a dark corner for a snack. Those eight-leggsies never get enough. The trail of cultist and dragon corpses finally led to a mad guy with a big axe. Turns out they believe that Andraste has somehow returned. Huh, never heard that before. All the priests harping on sin and singing, and now that?
"HALT!"
Anyway... Surana cautiously agreed to the odd proposition for now. I headcanon that Kolgrim told her that the reward for the deed will be a dose of powerful blood, and since Surana is already a blood mage and could use any help she can get, she decided to check that out. It turned out that what the cult sees as the reborn Andraste is a rather grumpy high dragon not happy about being woken up. Big axe dude still managed to make her stop doing an Gandalf and let the party pass (hope she doesn't smell all the blood of her dead babies, but then again, she gave up some of them for Reaver drinks anyway). Meta-knowledge necessitated a switch of party (Shale-Wynne-Lels) and equipment. Inside, another odd dude with a big weapon and strange attitude showed up.
Ugh, I'm here for pilfering, not pilgrimage.
"He" turned out to be just as fond of guilt-tripping as modern Chantry personnel, plus what seemed to be an extra bit threatening. Surana has her fair share of bad experiences with something testing a vague "worthyness" and was reminded of her Harrowing. Are you a demon in shining armour? After Shale commented on the tendency of religious people to dwell on past mistakes and Wynne being an ass at Surana for not wanting to answer the pestering questions of a guilt-tripping stranger/demon, the party dealt with logic riddles, a few imposters who either tried to kill Surana or guilt-trip her yet again and a "put-party-into-hold-position-stance" riddle only to finally arrive at a fire wall and an altar which proposed a bog-standard religious scam. "Give me all your stuff, else..." Nope. Not buying it, feared for something like that to happen in the circle for years. Not stripping down for the Maker now, when Surana actually got agency. Put party on hold, fire resistance on, marching forward.
So despite the Guardian claiming he is not the one to judge me, he's still trying to kill me now for not going through with that ritual. So andrastian zealots were always like that. Good to know. Being punished for not being sufficiently faithful, Surana had to fight this annoyingly powerful oaf and a bunch of demons. Death Cloud time. Alas, he still got what he deserved, Surana-style. With that out of the way, the party approached the golden pot, with Shale yielding a comment on how a pot is an odd place to store honoured dead. Surana then approached and took a pinch before emptying out a certain vial of dragon blood. Whoops. She really expectd a swansong to happen, but Leliana just reacted with a short nope and Wynne with an unbelieveable "What have you done?" What does it look like? Poured blood into a bucket claimed to hold a dead prophet's remains whose name is constantly invoked by assholes? Well... seems like a reduction of party size is in order. Surana has a real dislike for being jumped by hostiles, so it is Glyph and on your butts. Wynne was the first one to go, and Shale beat Surana to the punch. Lels did not escape though (No worries, this did not got far. Reanimated ones do not like level transition, much like Ranger pets. Outside is was patching up holes in the party first (back to Shale-Morri-Zevran), then getting remembered that the dragon cult was still 'round. By now, Surana is actually more amused by the than anything else. And she wants some kind of reward for the hassle and Kolgirm turned up with... another creepy drink. Did not have that before... Of course, Surana passed out, nothing new.
All well and good with the champion talk. Unfortunately, DAI has another opinion. The party left scaly Andraste and the cultists alone. Time to end this journey... ...except that there was still Ferdinand "I study people so they are easier to convert" Genitivi around. He wanted to make the discovery public, and Surana disagreed. Chantry's got enough power already. It did not even go as far as mentioning that the urn wasn't... quite like before anyway.
Umm... yeah, we found an urn.
Are you sure all this won't be Heresy just because?

[/spoiler] [/div] I really love how the music and his movement attempts guilt-tripping here. Back to Redcliffe, it turned out that journey was as least not totally pointless. Eamon woke from his nap and went to call the Landsmeet. Which led us to meet Loghain and his cronies. "Your betters are talking!!!!!" Yup. Now I know why I usually tend to kill this one. An elevated commoner so excited about her glorious station that she cannot refrain from "punching down", to use Sera phrasings. Cauthrien shares that trait with Fenris and... well, Sera. As an aside... I never played a Cousland up to this point. Does she try to pull the same "betters" talk towards them?

As an aside... I never played a Cousland up to this point. Does she try to pull the same "betters" talk towards them? I don't remember, but I think she uses the same line? I don't specifically remember her not doing so, and one of my favorite Cousland-Warden fanfics has Cousland nursing a grudge over what Cauthrien said after the Blight is over. (Although Maude finally forces herself to forgive Cauthrien after Cauthrien marries Fergus, and Cauthrien apologizes shortly afterwards in a private conversation anyway.)

Rius went and did a little job for Bhelen to prove his loyalties: show two deshyrs that Harrowmont was promising to give them the same thing for their support. One was easy, the guy was drinking himself silly at the Tavern. The other required finding an expedition in an abandoned thaig. This was Rius first adventure in the Deep Roads proper and he realized that deep stalkers were creepier than darkspawns.
After this little job, Rius decided to check the Proving. He already won one, maybe he could win another one. He did fair and square and announced his support for Bhelen after his victory. That caused a few Harrowmont fanatics to attack him while travelling Orzammar thought. Why people think attacking the current Grand Proving winner flanked of a Golem, a war dog and a fully armored knight is a good idea was beyond Rius's comprehension.
Unfortunately, despite all that Bhelen still couldn't give Rius the help he was asking for. Bhelen now wanted Rius to deal with the Carta and their new leader: Jarvia. Rius said "will do!", he would have killed her without Bhelen asking anyway. He went back to Dust Town and found his old pal Leske who told him Jarvia had set shop behind an hidden wall in his family old house...but that turned out to be a trap. Picking up a key from one of the idiots who attacked him, he went and fond the door it fit. Cleaned up the whole place, including, his now ex-friend, Leske and, of course, Jarvia.
But that still wasn't enough for Bhelen. Rius was starting to think that his big brother was using him, but at the same time, no king, no troops. Now Rius was packing his things for a long trip into the Deep Roads to find the missing Paragon Branka and her entire house. How does an entire house disappear in the Deep Roads? Quite easily it seems. She was needed to sway the Assembly to pick a new king in the desired direction.

It's the first time I do a Duster playthrought and I feel Orzammar's content is way more interactive with that background than with the Dwarven Noble one (which I've done in the past).

Not much done, since I spent way too much time trying to figure out that armor (with no luck), but in that short bit I actually played, Dorian managed to have existential crisis. I didn't ask what exactly caused it, but my guess would be Orlesian fashion.

Thomas Hawke entered the Evil Pit where Tarohne had stored her last book... and it was another dwarven ruin? This one's not isolated enough to be a slaver lair: the way Fenris described them, they were deliberately isolated so that other slavers wouldn't find and raid them. Well, whyever there was a dwarven ruin there, the fact remains that there was a dwarven ruin there. Thomas found another golem guarding this pit, and he had a little more trouble this time than last time, in that it actually got off a thrown rock... not that that saved it. The party got a little further in, and started encountering traps and corpses. Thomas eventually started telling Fenris to stop rushing into melee range so that he could rush in first and have time to disarm them all. Eventually the group came to a hall where the book was stored, along with a small stash of treasure. Thomas tore apart the book... and was attacked by a pretty respectable desire demon and her army. Anders cast several heals, the party used several potions, and Anders still had to reassemble Fenris after he hit the ground once. That was a fight. How did Tarohne control those demons? Especially the one in charge, which probably could have wiped the entire band that was guarding Tarohne's lair? Is that even what was happening? Was Tarohne taking her marching orders from this monster whose name Thomas didn't catch? Well, whatever. It didn't die easy, and its henchmonsters still posed a challenge after the party finally put it down... but it died, and so did its henchthings. Hawke looted the chamber and then went to the Black Emporium, figuring that no other shop would be open that late. While he was there, he swapped out Merrill's current staff for the one he'd taken off the superdemon guarding Tarohne's last book. (Said staff has a power that boosts blood magic. Does anyone know if that stacks? Because Merrill's amulet and one of her rings both have that same power.) Then Thomas went home and changed into his noble outfit. (This isn't the first time I've noticed that Gascard's outfit is identical to it, but I haven't commented on that yet. I should probably do that now, since I'm not getting another chance to say it.) Uncle Gamlen was there, asking if Thomas's mother was okay: she'd been visiting him more often than Thomas had, and had missed her last visit. Gamlen found that suspicious enough to comment. Thomas thought she might be on a date, but Gamlen didn't know she'd been seeing anyone. Bodhan helpfully informed the two that Leandra hadn't been in all day, and that she'd gotten flowers from her new boyfriend. White lilies. How... cute? Oh.Shit.Bodhan had already said that Leandra hadn't been in all day. It was currently night. FUCK.Thomas informed Gamlen what was going on, and Gamlen immediately denied anything was wrong as a method of keeping his mind from melting. He went back to look for Leandra at his place, hoping she'd come from a different route. Thomas, meanwhile, immediately fought off the need to search Lowtown for her, because where the hell had that idea come from? And he didn't even consider going to that templar who had sworn to find Emeric's killer, because he couldn't do that until morning. No, the best way to find her in a hurry (which was exactly what they needed to do) would be to track down Gascard in Darktown. Gascard expressed his disbelief that the killer had struck again so soon. He explained that the woman who he'd kidnapped had already been taken (and left implied that he hadn't done anything to stop it) and said that he had enough of her blood to track her down. If there's anything left of her (and isn't that a reassuring way of phrasing it?) then he can find it. (So, when had the killer taken Alessa? This was all happening the same night he'd killed Emeric, so he'd been busy that night. And he'd kidnapped Leandra that morning, since she'd been missing all day. Alessa had only escaped from Gascard the night before. And we're about to see that he needs to put some real work into processing his victims once he gets them. If nothing else, you have to admire the amount of work he's putting into this.) The ritual led Gascard and Thomas to the factory in Lowtown where he'd found the bonebag. (So in retrospect, he could have come right down. Dammit.) Aveline said she should have known something was there... I hope she's not confessing she didn't search the place properly?... No, a short search later, Thomas came to a trapdoor that he could have sworn wasn't there before. Okay, so he's guarding himself using illusions. Yeah, Meredith could have stopped this, and it's fair to blame her. But Aveline couldn't have: nobody she could order to search this place would have turned anything up. The group arrived in the lair and reslaughtered a bunch of corpses, while sending a few demons back to the Fade. They came across the corpse of the woman they'd been tracking, and a note saying that someone wasn't entirely happy with the way her feet were preserved. Creepy. They came across a bedroom/library guarded by corpses and more demons. It looks like the serial killer's living under that creepy foundry. So... maybe Aveline could have stopped this by setting guards at that foundry? Actually no, so far, this place is set up exactly like Tarohne's lair, which according to the rules of Kirkwall architecture means it has a back exit. (Weird how Kirkwall keeps re-using floor plans.) But anyway, this is even more Meredith's fault than it already was: if she'd listened to Emeric, she'd have found this guy's home and office. (Although maybe Thomas could have stopped it if he'd gotten to the alley where Emeric was due to be ambushed earlier in the day, or followed and staked out Alessa? Still, the railroading in this quest isn't quite as bad as I'd thought it was from the fandom's descriptions. This certainly isn't as bad as the fact that you can't even try to secure the Smugglers' Tunnels in Awakening.) Anyway, the living area had a shrine to a woman (a wife, a sister, a hopeless crush?) that the party thought looked like Leandra. (I personally thought the only thing that looked similar was the skin tone, and that's not a big shock: Kirkwall's not a diverse gene pool.) Thomas continued looting and found books on necromancy and a letter saying the serial killer is looking for "her face." So we know he's a necromancer, we know he's carving up and preserving body parts... honestly, Thomas has all the pieces of the puzzle he needs to figure out what the serial killer is doing, but I can't blame him for not understanding what's happening here, because who the hell would want to?!They also found a note from someone named O, who was astounded at the impossible things Quentin was doing. Sounds like someone's living vicariously. The looting also turned up... an Amell family shield? What the hell is that doing there? The search continued, and Thomas found his mother's locket in a pile of rubble. That wasn't a good sign. He turned to keep walking... and then turned back around for another look and found an opal in the rubble he'd just searched. At last, they came to the lunatic standing over a woman in a chair. The woman was wearing a bridal veil and wearing a white mage robe meant to look like a wedding dress. nope nope nope nope nope nopeGascard called the mage out by name: Quentin. He hadn't mentioned that he knew this guy's name? Quentin eventually revealed that Gascard was his former student, and Gascard offered to help Hawke kill him anyway so that Gascard could steal his research notes. Quentin counteroffered by saying that he'd been unable to be a proper tutor to Gascard since his wife died, but that his research project had somehow changed things so that Quentin could be the quality mentor he'd wanted to be. Thomas tried to counter that by pointing out that Quentin was completely off his nut... but Gascard conceded that point only to dismiss it by pointing to Quentin's power. Oh, you wanna see who has the power in this room? Bring it.Quentin unveiled his glorious master project: Leandra's head sewn onto a pile of corpse parts. And then the fighting started. Quentin put up a barrier and started calling up his minions. As a necromancer, Quentin of course started off by summoning an army of corpses... and a desire demon that somehow represented the Circle mage he'd killed? (The wiki doesn't mention that part, but I could have sworn the first one said "Possession of Mharen.") The party put all of those monsters down (killing Gascard as an afterthought) and then Quentin summoned another army of corpses, a possessed mage or two (I can't understand how mages keep summoning those) and a desire demon that... somehow represented Ninette? Rinse and repeat, and the next demon represented Alessa. Rinse and repeat, and then next demon was somehow Leandra. ( Oh, that one hurt.) Quentin had mostly run out of demons, so he summoned three shades and got ready to jump in himself. Then Merrill lit his bloodstream on fire and froze his henchthings, while Aveline ran past the shades and started slicing him. By the time he was able to teleport clear of Aveline, he'd lost all three of his remaining henchthings and was down to a quarter of his health. He was dead seconds later. The spell keeping Leandra's composite-corpse going started to fade, but the spell controlling her faded faster. She collapsed in Hawke's arms, and tried as best she could to console him as her brain shut down. Thomas headed back to his now-much-emptier mansion, not even bothering to loot most of the corpses. (Although he had taken Gascard's favorite hat off his corpse during the fighting. Why Gascard wasn't wearing it was a mystery, since it had some enchantments that could have made his spells almost hurt.) Gamlen found Thomas mourning in his room, and asked what had happened. Thomas said she'd been dead when he'd found her. Gamlen asked how this could have happened to Leandra... ... and Thomas decided he might as well give full disclosure: he told Gamlen that Quentin had been cutting women up to make a reconstruction of his dead wife. Gamlen immediately started blaming magic for this, even after Thomas tried to remind Gamlen that he had a mage niece. Gamlen took it on himself to inform Bethany, so that Thomas wouldn't have to... but given that rant, maybe Thomas should have volunteered? As Gamlen was leaving, he asked Thomas to at least tell him that the killer was dead. Thomas nodded to confirm it. Gamlen said he'd hoped it hurt. Thomas decided not to reply that the actual beating had ended far too quickly, but that Quentin had spent much of it boiling from the inside. Merrill showed up later, and said something in elven. Thomas didn't know the language, but she was very obviously saying "I'm sorry for your loss," and some things transcend cultures and languages well enough. Merrill said that Leandra was in a better place. Thomas suggested she was with the Maker, and Merrill said she might be with Falon'din. Who knows, really? Thomas got up that morning and checked his writing desk. Two more letters had arrived: one from the Viscount and one from Hubert. The Viscount wanted Hawke to help him with something important to the whole city that he only trusted Hawke to oversee. Hubert wanted help with the Bone Pit. Thomas wanted to get out of the city and get some fresh mountain air to help himself cope with what had happened last night.

Love Neria's shenanigans though...lots of death and uh...exploding people not sure if Raelyn would agree on tossing blood into sacred urns...but then again, if her conscience hadn't played up she might've done the same (yeah, sad to say, despite the fact she doesn't exactly believe...enough of the Chantry doctrine was drilled into her as a kid)

In an earlier playthrough of Surana, she actually left the urn alone (still killed the guardian and Genitivi though). I just thought of being at tad bit less... appeasing towards some characters this time. Note how I intentionally switched Wynne and Lels in. I roleplay that the dragon blood infusion is improving her blood magic to some extent (she will get more constitution and spellpower on a special item, gameplay-wise), and most things that make her more powerful are fair game, as there's a blight to defeat. On the other hand, there are certain lines. There will only splattered Caladrius in the Alienage (hope for me getting a good screenshot:P), city elves aren't going to be sacrificed. Yes, Surana is a tad bit biased. #Sorrynotsorry

Well...there's myths on Sheogorath creating musical instruments from a body... plus in the Shivering Isles expansion he tells the pc multiple times about wanting to skip rope with their intestines and wanting to rip out their eyes ...he's crazy, but that's in the job description
Caladrius became a pretty smear in my game as well, he got smited by Alistair I love the dialogue options with him on my Tabris, basically they boiled down to "shut up and die"
My Tabris did drink Avernus' concoction though...she felt it couldn't be worse then the Joining cup

Anyway: back to Thomas Hawke... ---- ... who has seen more than enough of Lowtown for one lifetime after his mother was butchered there. But he had found the corpse of an apostate highwayman whose family lived there, and he figured he should give it back to his next of kin. First, he threw Gascard's hat and the Amell family shield in the storage chest, because he figured the hat made a nice trophy and the shield was rightfully his. Then he grabbed Fenris, Anders, and Merrill for a trip around Kirkwall. He started in Lowtown, and dropped off some junk and a few daggers at the clothing merchant. Then he found the Gerralt family and handed over their loved one's corpse. (But because Hawke's a sarcastic asshat, he decided to hand the corpse over with the line "check your purse, I think you lost something.") With that bit of side-business accomplished, Thomas figured he should go see what Hubert wanted. It might get him out of the city for a little bit... but first he went for a drink in the Hanged Man, and a chat with Varric, who warned Thomas that his girlfriend was probably crazy. Thomas admitted that was kind of a turn-on. Hubert (who as it happens is wearing the same outfit Hawke likes wearing at home) turned out to want some bandits who'd been stealing his shipments taken care of. He'd caught one of their collaborators, and was shaking him down for information. Thomas agreed to allow him brought to the Hawke mansion for a "friendly little chat." Hubert tried beating some useful information out of Sabin, but Thomas persuaded him to let Thomas try to get the information gently. Thomas offered Sabin mercy if Sabin cooperated... and while he considered demanding restitution, he figured Sabin probably didn't have enough money. Hubert returned with a member of the Coterie named Lilley... who, due to being a criminal involved in this quest, was now Thomas's best suspect for the true mastermind. Thomas persuaded Hubert and Lilley to let Sabin go as a thank-you for being so cooperative, and then ran to try and catch the robbers at the ambush point. They got there too late. The people guarding the shipment were dead. Now it was just a matter of making the bandits pay for it. (And enjoying the mountain air that Thomas had agreed to this quest in order to get at.) After they were done, Lilley said she recognized one of the men they'd killed: he worked for a Coterie boss named Brekker. She said to meet her in Darktown, after she'd gotten to the bottom of this... and Hawke heard, "I'm ready to spring the ambush now." He headed over the Darktown anyway (after he was done embezzling some stuff at the scene that he figured Hubert wouldn't expect to see ever again) and decided to stop in at Anders's clinic in case he was feeling chatty (he wasn't.) Then he headed over to the meeting point, figuring that Hubert wouldn't be happy until this was over... ... and he found Lilley lying dead on the ground. My bad? A bunch of Coterie thugs surrounded them, and "politely requested" Thomas give them something to believe other than that Hawke had killed her. Thomas said that he'd found her this way, and that he suspected Brekker had killed her. The Coterie thugs accepted this answer, and Thomas headed to Brekker's hideout to "politely request" some answers. (Along the way, he passed the Coterie barker, still barking about Javaris's leases. If they're still up for grabs, they must suck.) Thomas, Anders and Merrill handled the welcoming committee, while Thomas insisted Fenris stay back. This caution was rewarded when Thomas found and disarmed a trap Fenris could have run straight into. The group continued on, disarming traps and dismembering thugs, until they came to Brekker himself. Thomas had been a pretty reasonable guy this whole quest, so he gave Brekker one chance to keep breathing. Brekker chose cowabunga. Cowabunga it was. Brekker thought Hawke thought he was a big shot because of his partnership in a mine. Hawke responded by showing Brekker exactly why Hawke thought he was a big shot. Once Thomas was done with the killing and the looting, he headed back to Hubert to reassure him that the robberies were well and truly over. Hubert accepted this, and said that maybe Thomas should go over to check on the workers, saying that Thomas was good at keeping them happy. Yeah, treating them like people will do that. Hubert should try it sometime. (But Thomas is probably going to have to go over anyway, because he's not holding his breath.)

I remember having the same issue with Fenris - I swear sometimes the man was worse than Alistair when it came to setting of traps. My main Hawke was a bit of a "in-your-face" kind of fighter for a rogue. I can imagine her and Fenris coming to a agreement that she promises to wait for him to catch up and be by her side before she rushes the enemy, if he promised to wait for her to disarm the traps before he rushed through them. Like seriously, I'm a Teyrn's daughter/son...I may be short of a teyrnir at the moment but you get the idea Especially considering the only reason Howe is a Teyrn is because he murdered your family and stole your home.

So haven't had much time/motivation to play lately (at least not at the same time), I think my last update was early May. But talking to Sonya last week or so about my Wardens (aka. more like rambling to her about them) made me realize how much I miss playing my ladies (I guess one good "kick of inspiration" deserves another, huh Sonya ). So I got both of them through Haven and Honnleath, but still want to get back to Redcliffe and wake up the Arl. So hopefully will have the official update this weekend before things get crazy at work starting next week (if it's going to be another stretch between gameplay, at least I can leave them in a place with comfortable beds instead of the middle of the mountains in a tent this time, lol In the meantime, I was laid up on the couch yesterday - so decided to to bring up one of my old Inquisitors on the PS4 since I wasn't getting to the computer. Turns out I managed to wipe out all my Inquisition saves (except for my main one, but she had already beat the game), so I thought I'd give DW another go and rerolled my female Adaar. I was quickly reminded how much I hate creating a female Qunari and can't wait to play her on the computer with the hair/horn mods installed. But got her through the prologue and stabilized the Breach. She woke up to find herself being called the "Herald of Andraste", a title that she is quite okay with (she is a devout Andrastian who truly believes she saved by Andraste and sent as her Herald). She attempted to flirt with Cassandra - I don't think she got anywhere, but she's not giving up hope yet. Cassandra went back to her training, so Adaar decided to look for a logging stand and maybe do a little hunting. That's when things got.... interesting. Now I'm most used to playing a mage or archer in Inquisition. Early on it's possible to hunt the druffalo up in the mountains with them - it's not quick, but it's possible since you can fire from a safe distance. I do not recommend trying to do the same thing with a level 3 DW rogue. I repeat: DO. NOT. ATTEMPT. It does not work out in your favor as much when you actually have to get off that huge rock. And they don't forget and just walk away either after few moments of trying to ignore them. Running for help does not help either. Remember how those soldiers just stand around and watch you get mauled by a bear? Well, turns out they are just as helpful when you run through the Haven training field with a pissed off druffalo hot on your tail. Not even Cullen or Cassandra stopped to help. Damn thing actually ran right through Cullen while he just stood there - the Herald is now having serious doubts about the Commander's qualifications. It finally stopped chasing her when she got through the gates of Haven proper. Literally just stopped short and stared at her. Unfortunately are you also not able to attack it while standing within Haven's gates. And if you do manage to actually get back past it by jumping like a mad fool until you go over it, it automatically starts attacking again before you can even turn around to defend yourself. With the beast still staring her down and daring her to walk through the gate again, Adaar turned around and went to the Tavern. Face it, by this time she's earned a drink. When she came back out, the hairy annoyance had left. She's not sure if it got bored and wandered off, or if the soldiers had finally done something about it - but she suspects the former. ( Rascoth - remember our discussion a little while back about how well can you screw up? )

Rius braved the Deep Roads, found Branka and got a crown to crown his king. That's the short version. The long version. Rius was forced to take Ohgren, Branka's left-behind-husband with him into the Deep Road. Not that he needed the drunk dwarf for anything, he just didn't want to go away. First they reached Caridin's Cross. Fought lots of darkspawns. Discovered limbs in bloody bags and found their way to Ortan Thaig. A place where Branka supposedly went to. That place was strange. There was darkspawns, but they were losing a way against spiders, ghosts and Golems. Rius was thinking that maybe the Warden should recruit spiders. They really seemed to do a good job there...at least, until he meet the blight corrupted spiders. Than that idea seemed a bad one. The bloody limbs when put on altar summoned a demon from the Fade. Huge demon. Was still destroyed. You have to wonder why people cut them into pieces if fighting them makes them go away anyway. Rius also found some old documents that a young lady wanted to see in the Shaperate of Orzammar...and Branka's journal who said where she went next. Marching on past Ortan Thaig, they reached the Deep Trench. The Archdemon was there, as was thousands of thousands of darkspawns...and a couple men of the Legion of the Dead. Rius and friends cut a line to the ancient ex Legion of the Dead fortress after the Archdemon flew away. It's their ex-fortress because the darkspawn took over. There he ended up meeting Branka's lover acting all weird. That explain why Ohgren was left behind, he wasn't important. The Warden also discovered something awful: how darkspawns are born. It disgusted him. Once past all those darkspawns, they finally meet Branka. She had found the Anvil, but there was a catch. The access to it was trapped. Rius had to fight the traps to get to the Anvil and Caridin. He was turned into a Golem himself and have been trying for thousand of years to destroy the Anvil. But Rius wanted Branka's to have the Anvil, so a fight followed. Shale turned her back on the Warden and she had to be put down along the other golems in the room. Finally, Branka was able to made a crown that Rius could give to Bhelen. The Warden did propose to make a golem with Orghen but Branka said she didn't know the Anvil well enough yet to do so. Shame. After that, the gang went back to Orzammar. Crowned Bhelen and finished a few errands and emptied their pockets at the nearest merchant. Also, dumped Orghren at the nearest Tavern. Rius will now have Golems and the Legion of the Dead to fight the Darkspawns. --- I died so many times. No healer/mage party + playing a rogue as the frontmen = death galors in the Deep Roads. So many enemies with stunlock that deals lots of damage. I'm pretty sure I was one-shot by a few enemies actually. I also used my entire health potions too, lol. I lost Shale. but I got ride of Ohgren The rest should be easier.

The first time I played Dragon Age ORigins, I named my city elf Elara. So she was Elare Tabris with green eyes and red hair. I've been playing romantic visual novels lately, and whenever they let me, I change the name to Elara Tabris. IT's been pretty amusing to me.

( Rascoth - remember our discussion a little while back about how well can you screw up? ) I do, I do Haven shenanigans at their finest. I once attacked druffalo with my poor really low lvl s&s gal. I didn't die, but also didn't retreat. It took ages to kill it. Fun stuff

Thomas Hawke decided that it probably was for the best he head over to the Bone Pit to see how the workers were doing.
The guy who'd spoken for them three years ago when Thomas had persuaded them to return to work (I'd think he was a union leader if I thought Thedas had those) said that they couldn't go back to work because they'd broken into a nest of giant spiders. The guy who'd broken into the nest was dead, and everyone else had gotten clear and barricaded the spiders in.
Well, Thomas had promised them he'd keep them safe... and the dead guy's probably wondering how good a job he's doing at that. So Thomas, Fenris, Anders, and Merrill all walked into the mine.
The spiders were pretty easy. Thomas didn't know if the big spider was any stronger than the one that had almost killed him and Anders in the Deep Roads... but he knew he and Anders were a lot stronger than they'd been then.
Thomas took a good look around the place, not wanting to miss any handy lyrium veins this time. And this time he found a vein of... corrupted lyrium? What corrupts lyrium? Is it Blighted? Is that even possible?
Well, Thomas made a note of its location so he wouldn't have to buy it from Xenon a few years later. (Like he'd done with that other lyrium vein from the Bone Pit.)
Thomas came back out of the mine, and according to the person speaking for the miners, he smelled like spider guts. The guy encouraged his fellows to go back to work, but put dibs on the spider-fangs because he wanted to make a necklace for his wife... that would presumably smell like spiderguts.
Thomas headed back to Kirkwall after this latest dose of mountain air (that was starting to smell like spider guts.) He stopped in at the Gallows, hoping to tell the templar who'd promised to avenge Emeric that the deed had been done... but he couldn't find her. But while he was there, he got the chance to sell his junk at the Armor merchant... and hear Grace opine that she should have chosen death over coming to the Gallows.
Thomas wouldn't find that quite as worrying if she hadn't already voiced a baseless grudge against Thomas himself.
Thomas finally headed home to give the letter from the Viscount another look, and decided to do something with it. He headed to the Keep, and while he was there he talked to Aveline... who tried to share a story about her father to cheer Hawke up after his mother died. Thomas sarcastically declined.
He finally got around to meeting the Viscount, who revealed that Seamus left to convert to the Qun. (Huh. Thomas had realized he hadn't been in his usual spot near the stairwells...)
The Viscount implied that he didn't so much object to Seamus converting to the Qun as he did to Seamus doing it right then, with the political situation hanging by a thread and his political enemies trying to paint him as owned by the Qunari. So Thomas agreed to head to the dockside slum-palace to try and talk Seamus out of this... and for some reason, he decided to go by way of the tunnels under the city.
And he was attacked by thugs in those tunnels. Thugs who explicitly said that he was the target, and that he couldn't be allowed to reach the Qunari compound.
Thomas and Anders had a quick discussion about who'd sent the thugs after the gang was done killing them, almost as though it wasn't obviously Mother Petrice.
The gang came to the compound, and were allowed entry. Thomas explained that they were here for Seamus, and the Arishok said that he did not have the right to deny a willing convert a place in the Qun... before questioning why his father had sent Thomas after Seamus had gone to the meeting in the Chantry his father requested.
They all quickly realized the Viscount hadn't actually requested that meeting: the letter requesting it was forged, likely by Mother Petrice.
I don't think I've ever had Thomas use a red dialogue option before, but he picked one this time: he said flat out that he wanted to kill Petrice for this.
The Arishok said he'd be watching, and that if she's killed a member of the Qun, there's only one possible response. (Good thing he was more understanding when Hawke did it.)
It was night-time by the time Thomas got to the Chantry. He found Seamus kneeling, and nudged him a bit... and his propped-up-corpse fell over.
Petrice came out of hiding and started crowing about how Hawke had slain a repentant convert to the Qun in the Chantry itself. Thomas and Petrice had a drawn-out back-and-forth about whether Petrice was wrong or right, and honestly I just wished he'd put an arrow in her.
She eventually ordered her zealots to attack while she headed off. Thomas slaughtered them, and Petrice came back with the Grand Cleric. Petrice tried to get the Grand Cleric to condemn Thomas without hearing him out, but she refused... and eventually took Hawke's side, and declared that she'd have Petrice arrested.
Petrice looked stunned. She knew she'd lost. Her plan had been to get the Grand Cleric in on this, and she wasn't going for it.
Thomas wasn't entirely happy with this, since he'd wanted Petrice dead. But a legal option was okay... and anyway, a Qunari assassin hidden in the Chantry put two arrows in her as everyone was figuring out how to feel about this.
Thomas was still annoyed that he couldn't do it himself, but he'd been okay with the legal option, and this was a step in the right direction.
The Grand Cleric had Thomas bring the Viscount, and the Viscount cradled his dead son. Thomas tried to console the Viscount that at least it was too late in the day for things to get any worse, but for some reason the Viscount didn't find that very consoling at all.

Inquisition shenanigans continue. A couple of companion quests unlocked after reaching Skyhold, so they were first in line. Leliana dealt with Josephine's problem, Bull became Tal-Vashoth, Lord Harmond was forced to serve the Inquisition, Solas' friend was freed and Dorian talked with his father. After that back to clearing Exalted Plains. The sooner I'm done with this place, the better. I managed to clip through the door to Unadin Grotto without clicking it, so The Spoils of Desecration didn't activate. Nice. One trip to Skyhold and buttload of undead later, I was done with it. Only one Dalish quest left, where I still need Great Bear Hide. I'll get them, eventually. Great Bears, just like their regular versions, don't need to be asked twice to appear I managed to glitch Gamordan Stormrider (got close enough to start her fight, but then kept running to get out of range), so she got stuck mid-air. Fortunately attacking un-stuck her. Next, either Crestwood or Western Approach. I need to hit both before HLtA, so it's only a matter of order in which I do them and not whether to do them now.

I feel terrible. ------------------ After Orzammar and the Deep Road, Rius decided to go to the Circle Tower. On their way they were assaulted by a group of assassins send by Loghain assuredly. None survived. One day someone is going to learn: do not mess with Rius the Warden. And of course after that little encounter getting some mages should be easy. Except that it wasn't. At the dock, the Templar didn't want to bring them across the lake unless Leliana kept him company...she didn't really his advance but managed to turn that around by telling him lewd stories on the long boat trip. Then once at the Tower, Risu learned that they had all turned mad according to the Warden-Commander. And while he was ready to help against the Blight, he had to wait for reinforcement from Denerim and clean up the tower first. Rius proposed to do the clean up instead. Past the door, the party encounter Wynne and a few other mage apprentices. Rius vaguely remembered meeting her at Ostagar. She was asking help to save the Tower and Rius couldn't think about killing children so he accepted her help. And up they went. Killing blood mages and abominations...until they meet Sloth. Rius was sure dwarf couldn't dream, but Sloth proved that they could get trapped in the Fade regardless. When asked about what happened there all Rius could muster was: mouse, burning men, golems and arcane horrors. After that event, all mages should be killed in Rius's mind. Which is very much what happened. After encountering a trapped Templar, Wynne betrayed the party and had to be put down. Then at the top of the tower, the remaining mages turned into abomination and the Pride demon responsible was defeated. The Templars would now join the Blight-effort. Feeling like he dealt with enough demons and magic for one day. Rius went back to Ostagar now that the hoard had moved on. Finding Cailan's body and his stuff (you know finders-keepers) along Duncan's weapons and armor. Cailan was cremated, Alistair wouldn't have any other way. ----- I ran out of healing potions in Return to Ostagar, used the last one in the last fight. The rest of the game is going to be terrible without a mage healer I feel. Doing the Tower with Wynne felt so good in comparison. This is the first and last time I play a "I hate mages" protag. So painful. DA2 isn't as bad as this, I once did a full rogue party in it, went super smoothly. Isabella was the only melee too, and the tank...and that worked rather well.
