I did Here Lies The Abyss and I feel like an idiot for taking Varric with me. I did it because I figured he should get to fight by his friend's side again, but then I remembered too late that Hawke tells the Inquisitor "say goodbye to Varric for me". Ah well. Not like the game knows the difference. If the game can pretend he wasn't there, so can I. I'm glad I brought the Iron Bull, though. He acts so traumatized after the quest that it just wouldn't make sense unless he was actually there, in the Fade. I don`t think i`ll play Awakening and the last 2 dlcs this time, i`m not in the mood for it, and i still haven`t decide if i`ll play DA2 right away or if i`ll play another game first. Decisions, decisions... Well... if you weren't planning to play the DLCs, why not just let the Warden go out with a bang?

Well, this is my favorite character and the one from my canon wordstate, and she is supposed to survive the Blight, become commander of the Ferelden wardens and pursue a cure for the taint, how can i let her die? . And i`ve played her through the dlcs many times, so i can start DA2 using a save file from another playthrough with this warden, with these dlcs played. And although i`m not planning on playing the dlcs at the moment i may play it while playing DA2 or before starting DAI. Just not right now.

Yesterday I accidentally deleted my Qunari character while trying to make room for a dwarf I wasn't even going to play. I just wanted to experiment with the potential design for the dwarf protagonist I might choose to have in DA:D.
It was a playthrough I had dropped after making it as far as Trespasser, out of boredom. But it was a character I did enjoy for the most part and wouldn't have minded going back to finish.
Part of me is somewhat okay with it because that playthrough was mostly done, but I'm the kind of guy who likes to keep the save files because then I can feel like my precious characters will always be there.

Been binging lately. I had no idea you could take all of the money from Mistress Poulin. Every one of my companions disapproved. Anyway, I've got a human mage character and he's gone as far as Adamant. Hawke sacrificed himself to allow the others to escape the Fade. It was even his idea. He felt Stroud ought to rebuild the Grey Wardens in a better way. It made sense. Who knew when a Blight might appear again? The world would be toast with the Wardens around to challenge them.
Putting off going to the Ball to see the Empress. It's the mission I hate the most so I'm doing everything else I possibly can. I have so much political power that it's incredible.

So, funny story. After allying with the Wardens, I avoided deploying them as much as possible in the war table missions. And yet... they all died. That's completely nuts.
Also, I'd like to ask: Are there companion cutscenes/quests that can be missed if you don't do them before a certain point? I know that main quests act as milestones to unlock them, but I need to know if they cut off past cutscenes/quests as well.
In other words, I currently have content available for a few companion/advisors and I wonder if they will still happen after I do the Winter Palace quest.

Killed a dragon, ate cookies on a rooftop with Sera, killed Venatori with Dorian, and got Varric to write Cassandra the next chapter of "Swords and Shields". It cracks me up that the main character on the cover looks like Aveline.

DA2 I wish there was an option to skip Varric`s "fake" prologue after the first time, i know it doesn`t take much time to finish it but it gets a bit annoying when you have to go through it again and again everytime you realize you want to change something in the CC again .
Anyway...
Today Sorcha Hawke escaped Lothering with her family and Aveline Vallen (lost Bethany to the Darkspawn) with the help of Flemeth. In Kirkwall, uncle Gamlen sold Hawke and Carver into indentured servitude as payment for their entrance in the city (they decided to work for the smugglers after angering the mercenaries).
After the year has passed, the Hawke`s were trying to go on Bartrand`s expedition to the Deep Roads, but with no luck. Bartrand`s brother, Varric , convinced them the best option was to became partners in the expedition, the only problem being they needed to gather a lot of gold in order to do it. Also Varric told them about a Ferelden Grey Warden that may have a map of the Deep Roads.
They helped Aveline, who is now a guard, with some smugglers but her captain was not pleased with it, making her suspicious about him. They went to Lowtown at night, saved a guard named Donnic and found proof that the captain had dealings with the Carta. After exposing him, Aveline was appointed the new Captain, although it will take some time before she`ll be taking the charge.
Got rid of all the gangs that were attacking Kirkwall at night and found grandfathers`s will in the Amell old mansion`s basement.
Met the Grey Warden Anders and agreed to help him rescue his friend Karl in exchange for the maps. Turned out that Karl were made Tranquil and was helping the Templars capture Anders. In the end, Hawke discovered that Anders was possessed by a spirit of justice, Karl was killed as he requested and Anders gave Hawke the maps he promised.

Apparently I'm gonna have to do Wicked Eyes/Hearts TWICE, because it turns out that Solas' romance isn't actually settled before the balcony kiss. And I only realized that when I was about to finish the quest.
Thankfully I did keep a save file from just before starting WEWH for a situation like this, but I really don't feel ready to do this shit again.

This is how I feel about the prologue in both DA2 and DA:I; very tedious to replay. Which isn't great, for games that properly need to be re-played several times to see all the different outcomes and choices play out.

Then I must be the only one who enjoys the fake prologue. You get to have a little fun with endgame skills and effortlessly crush a large group of darkspawn.
Sure, it can be tiring if you've been recreating your Hawke multiple times, but didn't we already have the option to cut through dialogue by tapping square? Or is that a DAI feature?

I did enjoy it... the first handful of playthroughs. And its more interesting than the DA:I prologue (imo), but it still gets old after a while. For me at least. I think games should generally have a feature where you can skip the prologue once you've played and beat the game through already.

Finished the damned Winter Palace quest. I was in such a hurry that I even forgot to talk to Briala and Gaspard as I normally would have.
I had Celene die so Briala could rise up. In retrospect, I should have made Lavellan hesitate for a second before making that decision, since she is supposed to be a pacifist. But I was so eager to see the empress of fire burn in Hell that the thought didn't cross my mind.

Some people like doing the Descent after doing the Storm Coast mission where you seal those darkspawn tunnels

Story wise, at what point in the game does it make the most sense to do The Descent and Jaws of Hakkon? For me, it makes sense to play Jaws of Hakkon after defeating Corypheus, since it isn't really connected to the main story. I mean, would the inquisitor waste time with an expedition to found more about the previous inquisitor while Corypheus and the Breach are still a threat? (although it is worth it to take Solas at least once, just to hear Solas comments to Kenric`s elven gods memory aid ). For the Descent, i think storywise you can justify playing it at any time. Sometimes i play it after the Red Water quest is done, as i`m already at the Storm Coast and possibly dealing with the darkspawn tunnels and investigating the cause of the tremors could be seen as a way to completely stabilize that region. But sometimes i play it just before Trespasser, to fill the two years gap.

People complain about DAI being "clearly designed for a human Inquisitor" but honestly, it provides a far more immersive experience for an elven protagonist than DAO ever did. I'm not just talking about the main story, but how often you get to talk to elven npcs about elfy stuff. I really love that.
The city elves in particular tend to give Lavellan a reality check. Although the Dalish often feel special, truth is that many city elves aren't remotely interested or impressed by them.

Although the Dalish often feel special, truth is that many city elves aren't remotely interested or impressed by them. Uhh... it was written and clearly designed for a human Inquisitor with race choice added in extended development? As in, developers confirmed it. Beyond that, what I found more immersive than it was probably intended is that essentially "Everyone And Their Dog Hates The Dalish" (including the writers apparently). We are sitting in an organisation founded by and on the dogma of a culturally genocidial cult afterall. Andrastians, even if they try to give a friendly vibe to their paternalistic nonsense, are by and large supremacist asshats. Exception to the rule is Leliana, who has actually has self-awareness. That is what I'd call reality check.
As for the city elves... uh, yeah. How many named ones we even meet? We have Briala who is arguably the best CE character in the franchise in my not so humble opinion; of those city elves I know anyway. Haven't read any comics. Apparently there are some which feature some Dalish-City interactions which are not written as "Dalish comical asshole ball", "city elf passive aggressive andrastian" or "don't rock the human boat from the alienange else we'll sell you out". DAI of course has to play ridiculous with Briala because "all sides in succession crisis same" (like, why the hell are some mad at Briala for being Celene's stockholmed fucktoy instead of, you know, the empress who ordered the purge because she had no other idea?). As for Sera, yeah, she's a good example for internalised racism, but ends up being extremely static until Tresspasser. Of course not helped by he dialogues with her really being written to push the player to go "huh, u crazy aren't ya, yuck, yuck, yuck!!". Beyond that, I can vividly remember an andrastian city elf at Skyhold who outclasses some human andrastians in being an asshole towards another elven NPC who is apparently Dalish.

Most elven npcs we meet are named, though I don't blame you for not memorizing them. But indeed, many interactions aren't particularly friendly, though I don't really mind. The city elf in Redcliffe who asks you to leave some flowers at his wife's grave is friendly enough. And so is the one that wants to join the Wardens in Crestwood. Also that university scholar in JOH. Yeah, not a big fan of how the Winter Palace quests tries to manipulate the player. It really punishes you for not reading the books. As awful as Sera is, I think she plays a role in showing your Dalish Inquisitor that elves don't have to be interested in elven culture... and that's okay. Oh, you mean the herbalist who replaced Adan? I thought her reaction was understandable, as it was rude to point out that she is unfamiliar with elven culture for no apparent reason.

I stopped talking to that one after getting her WT quest and having the 'best' option be to ruin a guy's career for no reason. The worst option is to kill the guy for no reason other than she wants him dead.

As inconsequential as the War Table may seem, the choices made there can say a lot about your character. It shouldn't be taken lightly.

DA2After many jobs and tasks, where she helped her fellow mages whenever she could, Hawke finally gathered enough money to enter Bartrand`s expedition. Avoiding the use of magic in front of Knight-Captain Cullen - It`s just a sword, with a glowing crystal on the top, it`s an old elven trick . Saving Feynriel from the slavers and sending him to the Dalish. Securing the Bone Pit mines. In the Deep Roads, they "saved" Sandal, found a strange Thaig and a lyrium idol, were betrayed by Bartrand, met a possessed Rock Wraith and declined the help it offered, defeated an Ancient Rock Wraith, found a fortune, Carver contracted the Taint, Anders led them to some Grey Wardens that agreed to put Carver through the Joining and finally they found the way out of the Deep Roads and were back in Kirkwall.

Uhh... it was written and clearly designed for a human Inquisitor with race choice added in extended development?
Okay. The village elf as I like to call him doesn't come across as in any way impressed or hostile. The other two don't go either was well, but don't mention anything "elfy" at all as I recall, though I'm not sure regarding Collette.
Any elven culture you mean. Doesn't get along with city elf stuff either. I don't meant her. The NPC I meant was a dude getting all smug on a Dalish women, but neither of them talk to the player. It is background banter.
Hah, that reminds me that there's a mod out there somewhere for DAO which has several versions of the SoP as melee weapons, mostly two-handed. Or my shenanigans in tinkering around in DA2 to make a staff using a melee weapon model. The qunari spears are good for that...
