I'm halfway through finishing Skyrim's main story, so I went back into playing DAI and quickly got Alexandra to Skyhold. She was officially named Inquisitor and vowed to stop Corypheus after he attacked Haven.
First thing Alex did as Inquisitor was judge Knight Captain Denam and sentencing him to death. She admitted she enjoyed watching the disgraced Templar complain as he was dragged away by her guards.
Arcanist Dagna was hired to work in the Inquisition alongside Harritt. Alex received a new set of battlemaster armour with her Inquisitor's helm. She's the leader now, so she should look the part.
Right now, she along with Cassandra, Solas and Sera are venturing the Western Approach. For the first time, Scout Harding congratulated the lady Inquisitor on her new title. In previous runs, my Inquisitors head to the Approach after talking to Hawke, Varric and whoever's the Warden ally. So, I decided to change things up a little. 😉

I did a quick run through the Dalish origin as Merrill, mainly just to check what Ashalle says about your parents. Your mother was heartbroken over the loss of your father, and just walked off into the moonlight and never returned. But although I have played that origin many times, I still noticed something that I hadn't before. If you talk to Pol, (the one killed by the vartarrel in DA2), he doesn't have any dalish tattoos I hadn't played DA2 much until recently, so I had never noticed it before. I don't think I'll continue playing with the Merrill face, it looks even less like her without the Merrill robes.

DA2: the red-outside, blue-inside life of Serafina Hawke, Assassin
- helped Varric track his no-good brother down. Would have had zero problem with killing him, but she'd brought Anders along, and being able to communicate with Bartrand mellowed Varric enough that he-- well, Varric's never been a violent guy. Of course he didn't want to actually kill his brother. Because Serafina can imagine few things more horrifying than killing family and she's a marshmallow for her friends, didn't kill Bartrand. (not shown in game: how she went home, mentioned it to her mom, and for a few seconds Leandra looked at her as though she couldn't believe her eldest had willingly refrained from murdering someone. Then Hawke started second guessing herself, because it's sort of Bartrand's fault if Bethany's a Warden. So that's a letter she should write to Beth, except usually Beth hates it when Hawke kills people for her, but Beth hates being a Warden, so maybe it'd be different this time, so: another letter Hawke is putting off writing.)
- tripped over her own two feet trying to compliment Merrill enough that Merrill showed up later at her home. They kissed and did other stuff in Hawke's bedroom, and now Merrill's living with her, and yay yay yay! It's great? Merrill's great? Hawke's just so amazingly lucky to have the sweetest, smartest, bravest girlfriend? (Also seriously angry at Merrill's clan for apparently never appreciating her. wtf, Sabrae clan.)
- subsequently went and shoved Aveline's own romance into place, with the helpful addition of Merrill, Isabela, and Anders' commentary. The only people semi-decent at this "flirting" thing in that team being Isabela and Anders, Hawke definitely had no room whatsoever for thinking Aveline's terrible at it. It goes to show how Aveline really has no friends if she's asking Hawke for help, and no just because: Hawke is terrible at romance, but also because Hawke and Aveline are rivals. In the end Aveline did get her guardsman, so all ends well. (Definitely thanks to Isabela and Anders suggesting a patrol, and Merrill squeeing at how cute Aveline and Donnic were, though. Hawke helped very little, but hey! if it makes Aveline happy without making her more likely to frown at Hawke for breaking laws and killing people!)

olnorton Pol was originally from the Denerium alienage. He ran after being accused of theft. and found Merrill's clan. He mentions it if you talk to him in both games. Since he was already an adult he doesn't have any slave markings. Edit: Might as well get my update done. --I went through and conquered the Hissing Wastes. I still love that zone. The dwarven tombs are interesting as well. If you read the inscriptions and put together the story, it has a lot of parallels with Bartrand and Varric. Also ends about as well. --Varric, upon finding the Sandy Howler: "She's right in front of the door. Think she did that on purpose?" I have to wonder the same thing.
--I now have 1 War Table mission available before I start WPHW or the DLCs. Holy balls guys. I had to slow down my playing quite a bit, but it's almost done. I know there isn't much point to it, but I felt like it. I'm getting ready to do Descent on my tank.
--I'm finishing the Deep Roads first because it's not only shorter overall than JoH but that final boss still chaps my hide. I'm going to get some well-deserved revenge.
Stupid living Titan blood. I got beat down by a rock, ffs.
--I also decided to roll an alt that I know I'm going to play. I'm going to play her off and on while Valena is doing the DLC War Table missions. I'm going to back to my RP roots and playing a dual-wielding elven rogue. That was my main race/class combo for a long time. Her name is Arianna, a name I've always loved.
Bonus Screenshots!
The original Valena on the PC. My current one looks almost exactly the same, only with green eyes, less makeup and no tats. She also had some clothing mods:

Get this: A Dalish has their tats put on at the age of 18. They have to endure every bit in complete silence. Crying out with pain is considered a weakness. I think about the markings my character has and I shudder slightly. Edit: Here's a few more screenshots of Val. The first one was tough to get. You literally have about a second to get the shot.

When you speak to him in DAO he only says "Hello, I don't believe we've met". I played on until after you get back with Merrill, but he still only says the same thing. Edit: You get more conversation with Pol by talking to Junar. I had a look for Arianni, but if she's there, she is not named. Duncan said "you're the Elf I rescued from the forest aren't you?" It was only two days ago shem, what, do we Elves all look the same to you.

Not sure if the Scout Harding "romance" triggers the achievement but it does at least trigger the ambient dialogue in Skyhold. I got the "would you have guessed at such a pairing" line after Bruenor's latest chat with her. She also told him her first name (which you don't otherwise learn unless you play JoH) and then asked him not to tell anyone what it was. Poor girl.
Bruenor just got back from freezing his hiney off in Emprise du Lion. Cleared out everything in the western half; will leave everything across the bridge for after HLTA. Needed Youtube help to find the last Jenny cache. Was kind of hoping there'd be something special mentioned after getting them all (including the ones at the Winter Palace) but there wasn't.
While Cullen marches the army to Adamant, Bruenor took Cass, Blackwall, and Solas on a quick side trip to the Oasis to open a couple more doors. All that's left is the final spirit door. [game-wise I'm back at Skyhold to activate HLTA, but story-wise I like this version better - "Meet you at Griffon Wing Keep, Cullen!" ].
Next stop: Adamant Fortress

We were hunting in the forest when 3 shems came running towards us. We readied our bows, but they weren't running towards us, as much as running away from something else. They claimed to have been treasure hunting in an old ruin and were chased out by a demon. i.imgur.com/sCrylqr.jpgThey showed Tamlen an artifact they got from the ruin. He said this writing is from the people. I said you've been spending too much time in Merrill's aravel. He said, you can talk, no I've seen this writing on some of the things the Keeper has. i.imgur.com/qYNaWZw.jpgWe should go to this ruin and check it out, we might find something that will make us clan heroes. i.imgur.com/TQEb8ih.jpgThe shems were telling the truth, for as well as some very large spiders, there were nightmare creatures, and the dead came to life. Fortunately I had my staff with me, because I'm not very good with a bow. Then we saw a beautiful old mirror, Tamlen thought he saw something move inside it i.imgur.com/ttXQvSq.jpgThen he touched it i.imgur.com/oEaLB5Z.jpgI woke up two days later, my tongue felt like the ground in a halla pen, and Tamlen was still missing. The Keeper wanted me to take Merrill and show her the cave. i.imgur.com/yaZdZp2.jpgWe came across more of the creatures and Merrill asked if they were darkspawn. Right, you asking me. Then she asked if I was feeling alright. "You look quite pale" I said, then we'd better hurry and find that mirror, so you can take a look at yourself. Then I tickled her waist. She said we haven't got time for that, and pushed me away. i.imgur.com/KtdVSYo.jpgWe killed a few more creatures, then in the room with the mirror, was the shemlen that bought me back to camp. He said we wouldn't find Tamlen, and that it was this mirror that had made me sick. Then he smashed it. i.imgur.com/lD3ibyP.jpg He was right, there was no sign of Tamlen, and the shem was waiting for us outside the cave. He told the Keeper there was only one cure for the sickness, and it would mean I would have to leave the clan. i.imgur.com/vLXb3bH.jpgI never even got a chance to say a proper goodbye to Merrill. i.imgur.com/XZPl8bg.jpgi.imgur.com/ZgCajvf.jpgi.imgur.com/kV9akDI.jpgIf the Grey Warden noticed me crying on the long walk south, he never said anything. When we arrived the Shemlen King was there to meet us. He was surprisingly polite, more so than I was anyway. i.imgur.com/SB4VE21.jpg

There were a few hiccups in my just finished Brosca game and I was going to go back to Lothering and replay but since that warden is bugged out of the keep for now decided to go back to the beginning and do a whole new f!Brosca. This time sort of modelled after my wife . She is a warrior instead and I'm thinking a future Reaver! We'll see. So without further ado I give you Sienna Brosca! Being born casteless is being born without rights and pretty much no chance of making an honest living. But if you play your cards "right" you can make a killing, making your living in Orzammars dusttown. 'Scuse the pun. So that's is pretty much my story. Never learned to keep my mouth shut got me into a fair number of fights growing up. Having a drunk for a mother got me smacked around a fair number of times as well. I've learned the hard way and here I am working as an enforcer for dustowns number one crime lord while my lovely sister is being used by the same scumbag to snare som nobleman through dirty bedroom tactics. We're both selling ourselves, trying to survive, trying to look out for each other. Leske here is probably my only other friend. So one day we got this rather simple job really. The boss, ugly-face Beraht, told us make sure some warrior Everd won a fight in the warrior caste's "glory proving". We were supposed to slightly drug Everds opponent. Only when we got Everd was more than a little stoned. The stone-for-brains was stoned out of his brains. Sorry. Well one thing led to another and in order to try and fix it I donned his armor and tried to impersonate him in the fight. As you probably can imagine it didn't end well. I guess that is how it is when you're caught between a rock and a hard place. I won the fights of course. But a "brand" - i.e. casteless don't go playing with the other castes without severe repercussions. Especially not humiliating the warrior caste in their own playground. Sod them. I guess I'm lucky they didn't just arrow me down were I stood. There was a grey warden there. Some fancy guy called Duncan. Leske dare me to speak to him. Leske's always been on the losing side of our little chicken races. Anyway apparently I managed to impress this Duncan. Yeah, like I said there would be repercussions but not the one I was expecting. I was clubbed down. Not before I took a few more of the with me of course. Me and Leske ended up in the dungeons. Only it was Berahts dungeon. And his plan was pain and torture for me and Leske. For no other reason than his amusement. My sister Rica he planned to give to his crew for gang rape and more. He should have blamed Everd but noooo. Like I said, sod them. I put on my feminine charm and boy was our guard in for a suprise. I broke his neck against the bars. We busted out of there. I gave Beraht a long overdue shave on the way. Alas we didn't get far and was apprehended by the guards. They were probably going to have me and Leske executed but the Duncan guy was there for some reason as well. He wanted me to join the Grey wardens. Some fancy schmancy human fighter caste I gather. Well it sure beats losing ones head. So that's it. Exiled from Orzammar (never was accepted there anyway). I don't know what they did to Leske. He always had a way of landing on his feet though. Rica was out of immediate danger - I think. She had this nobleman she was playing. Duncan took me to this ruined city called Ostagar to fight Darkspawn! That's my game! We met the human king on the way. I had to bite my tongue but remained civil and deferent to him. He actually seemed like a nice person - for a noble. So here I am, at Ostagar. Duncan want's me to find this other young grey warden called Alistair. What a name. Probably some noble brat. We'll see.

If so, mention what mods you used. Perhaps we could figure out which mods break the game. Even so, I can't imagine playing DAO without mods.

But the keep is not picking up my last wardens at all. Since it's only about the surname in the keep it's no big deal. But sorting is easier with the correct surname and not BW's default. And yeah, she giggled and smiled. It's sort of part of the daily poem routine I have going.

I just started up another Dalish elf PT in DAI. I have it on Nightmare with the Even Ground and Walk Softly trials set....and I'm using the Golden Nug for the first time. So far, it has been an interesting combo. Thanks to Golden Nug, I can dress my Dalish elf in Dalish gear and give Blackwall Grey Warden gear. (Amazing how when you see Blackwall again in Trespasser, he still doesn't show up in GW gear even if you sent him to the Wardens.) Also, using tier 1 materials with tier 3 schematics does make some of those Hinterlands fights which are so overwhelming when you first start a PT more doable. And the Walk Softly trial makes many casual encounters into semi-Boss fights. (Some of the rebel mages will have resistances to both cold and electricity and be able to cast barrier more frequently. (Again, why are most of these "apostates" elven mages in Keeper gear?) I intend to add "Take it slow" as well, but not before the battle of Haven.

From the diary of Kara Trevelyan: Met Solas's friend, boy were they in a cranky mood, but we decided to let them free...and they died anyway. Oh crap. And we hunted the snowy Wveryn. Not really anything to say there though I do intend to give Viv her heart...maybe she'll eat it? So...just trying to finish up the Exalted Plains. I tell you it is kind of amusing though I was doing one of the Fade rifts and on the second wave out pops a Revenant...it just in an instant me, Cole, and Bull go down...but with Viv in the party it was the first time I had to use Revival like that on an emergency basis. Phew...but we did get the bastard. He was tough though.

So Ostagar. Yeah a military camp. Several of those chantry priests and their Maker. I don't know, got a blessing from one. Guess it won't hurt. Met my first live mage. An old lady called Wynne. She was pleasant enough. Also met those Ash warriors and their Mabari hounds. Big dogs, and kind of cute. I helped the kennel master with one who was sick from the darkspawn blood. I will try to get out into the wilds to look for a flower that may heal the poor dog. So Duncan asked me to find the other warden and I did. I also met the other two recruits. "Ser" Jory and another crafty fella called Daveth. Daveth was the same kind of "volunteer" as me whereas Jory was a volunteer for real. We gathered at Duncans tent and he gave us a task. He wanted us to go out into the wilds to get some darkspawn blood. Three vials. Fancy that. But first I conned this little elf out of a nice sword. I guess old habits die slow. Out in the wilds "Ser" Jory started whining...behold the face of a coward. I swear. Alistair calmed him down with a little help from Daveth. I may have been more into goading the anxiety on. Oops. Anyway, this Alistair, seems calm, secure, sort of cute. Funny as well. He had Jory in line and we soon got the sodding "ser" into action. He can swing a sword. We got the darkspawn blood, I got the wilds flower for the Mabari and then the treaties Duncan wanted us to get as well. The old warden cache was broken and emptied. We met this woman there. Some sort of mage or witch who claimed her mother had taken Duncans treaties. Well, Morrigan was her name, took us to her mother who had kept the old papers. Safeguarding them she said. All the seals were intact. We thanked the old lady and went back to camp. It was time for the joining ritual that would make me a full fledged grey warden. We had to drink darkspawn blood and survive it. Daveth died. Jory refused and was executed for it by Duncan. Sod the stone. Me? Well I drank it of course. Not much choice there. But the pain...nothing prepared me for that. And I know pain. When I regained consciousness it was time to prepare for battle. Well nothing will ever be the same again...

So. The Arbor Wilds is a jungle.
And the Konkari Wilds is a cold miserable swamp forest.
They are technically at the same latitude.
What is causing the difference? The cold weather stop at the frost back mountains and just dump all over Fereldan? Or is it to do with the ocean?

Arbor Wilds = old elfy magic. Kind of like Skyhold can have holes in the walls and the people still don't freeze to death, even though they are up in the mountains with snow all around.
Also, the Frostback Basin looks just like the Arbor Wilds, but it's cold there.

I wish we could explore more of the Arbor Wilds aside from completing the main mission. It's a beautiful area just like the Emerald Graves and Frostback Basin.

No mods. But the keep is not picking up my last wardens at all. Do you still have upload character profile ticked in the online option.? Also it won't upload them if you have the developer console enabled. You need to start the game with the console disabled and save the game. (still might take 10 minutes) changing your armour and then saving often speeds it up.

Poor beautiful tropical birds. Fly north! Fly!

Hakkon Wintersbreath has some kind of influence on the basin and surroundings. In the Arbor wilds there must be some other warmer magic in play.

So, a couple odd bits in the game today:
Bruenor flirted one time that I can recall with Cassandra (saying he should read Swords and Shields since she seemed to like it so much) and yet I still got the convo with her about him flirting with her and what it all meant. He told her he meant nothing by it (and silently wondered if the nightmare demon had stolen more memories than "the divine" let on). So, I guess the Harding romance isn't enough of one to shut down the others. I still had flirt options for both Bull and Dorian show up as well, ones that aren't available if you are in another romance.
Morrigan claimed to have spent time in the Crossroads hiding out with the man she loved. She obviously couldn't have been talking about the HoF who 1) was female; 2) kicked Morrigan out of the party first chance she got; 3) refused the DR; and 4) died killing the archdemon. So, my new headcanon to explain this obvious bug is that Morrigan and Alistair really did have some UST going on in the short time they knew each other and King Al took any opportunity he could to get away from Anora.
Stormed Adamant Fortress, landed in the Fade, left Loghain behind, recruited the Wardens to help repair the damage they caused. Hawke apparently lost his bow somewhere in the desert so he ended up DWing the entire time. Back at Skyhold, ran around to talk to everyone (some folks a couple of times in order to trigger the post-Adamant chat). Learned that Varric's sorta girlfriend Bianca is the reason why Cory has red lyrium spread all over the place. Ugh. Encouraged Cole to become more human, to put his past behind him but not forget it.
Next stop: Cradle of Sulevin, then back to Emprise to see what's across the newly rebuilt bridge.

So, on this play through, I'd like catching up with companions not to take a solid hour. How frequently should one return to Skyhold ? I have this bad habit of doing an entire region or two and coming back to find I've done things a bit out of order.

Not sure I understand the question? Is there support for Skyhold being some old magical elfy stronghold? Morrigan says as much. My point is, there are holes in the walls, yet people don't freeze to death. So, something must keep the cold out. I vote for old elfy magic.
