Yet another mega-playthrough on the go featuring all three games+DLCs.
Right now in Inquisition, and around L20. I work from home, and typically start at around midday, so I get up at around 7:30 and get the game going for my daily morning gaming session.
Today I did my usual routine of zipping to Skyhold, completing any war table operations and getting new ones on the go, then it's straight to Emprise Du Lion where I spend around 30 minutes running around the frozen lake farming snowfleurs. I do this most days as soon as I get access to that zone and am strong enough to handle any Great Bears that sometimes drop in to say hello, any longer than 30 minutes farming and I start to burn out due to boredom and repetition, but just grabbing around 300 skins every day keeps the gold coming in.
The ultimate goal is to have get those ridiculously expensive tier 3 schematics from the Black Emporium. I already have the heavy armor and the medium armor, now I just need the light - and after that I'll start on the weapon schematics, I particularly want the T3 stave.
After that I zipped back to the Exalted Plains to continue my exploration.
This is not my favourite zone. In fact I find it pretty laborious. The rampart mazes with the respawning undead are just plain annoying, the quests are a bit lacklustre, though I quite enjoy the stuff at the Dalish camp. That constant drone in the background in place of music gets old real fast.
Fortunately I'm now on the final stages, and I quit the game in the fens, which I do actually enjoy, just a few yards away from the snowy wyvern area that will allow me to complete Viv's quest.
So first thing tomorrow there's a snowy wyvern to handle, followed by a dragon. I'm not going to zip back to Skyhold first thing tomorrow as I want to begin the fights right now, when my party has full guard and full stacks of potions.
... at some point I'll think about going to the Arbor Wilds and doing the temple for the main quest... but probably won't be for a while. Corifyfish can wait.

I'm going to be working on a small(ish) project for Dragon Age Origins I love, love the Magi origin, but always felt that Surana was a bit left behind in regards to their family members. So I had the idea to make a few myself, with even a small nod toward a certain npc from Inquisition who I head canon as a family member of Surana I made a thread for it, so if people want to help out or whatnot please check it out

They've always been that way haven't they, and its just been so long since I played origins I've forgotten. I have been busy the last few gaming sessions: Doing Orzammar first to get Oghren, then followed by the Mage tower for Wynne, and followed up with trying to get the Dalish on board. For my own personal record keeping: - have never refused to help Dagna - have never convinced Dagna to stay with her fatherThorn is going to this time ignore her, as that's new in a play through for me, and I couldn't bring myself to do the other two yet. - have never killed ruck and lied about it
- have never killed ruck and said he died heroicallyI had already left the deep roads and Ruck alive when I realised this, so I think I'll just be nice and tell his mother the news. - have never let the halla die - have never not brought back iron bark - have never killed DeyganAnd this time is no exception. Treating the Dalish badly is not something a Dalish warden would do after all. I have done the mage tower every which way previously, so nothing new to report. These three main plots were finished with the mages rescued, Branka defeated and peace between the werewolves and elves. Putting down Tamlen while he was begging Thorn to kill him and calling him Lethallin was Heart wrenching. Having Lilliana's song trigger immediately after was unbelievably cringe, that's Tamlen's blood you're drenched in! I interpret Thorn's blank stare as: "Is she serious right now?" After this I triggered Shale's personal quest, because I belive it cant be triggered after the landsmeet, and I want to leave as much as possible for when Loghain is in the party. when I went to search for Sten's sword however: Have I never noticed this before? I remember a big night standing there, in previous games, but the name of said night never meant anything to me I'm sure. Have I really not played this game from before I watched Game of thrones? I'm stunned at myself. Anyway, sten has his sword and now Oghren is wielding the butterfly sword. The only other companion quest I did was Morrigan's. Flemeth is dead, as Thorn believes it, and he gave Morrigan her grimoire. I also see that Wynne is also not just rude about a relationship with Zevran. Yeah she isn't my favourite. After completing the sacred ashes (which remain undefiled) Thorn is now standing in Denerim, having just been personally greeted by Loghain. Still not sure why Loghain doesn't recognise Thorn after plastering fliers up all over the city, but they'll be best friends soon enough!

okay I just saw this and I have to share Someone made a mod which allows you to import a dead Warden (aka. one that made the ultimate sacrifice) into Awakening and make a brand new character From the description it's not 100% perfect, but at least it's an option now without some weird roundabout ways of doing things

Well, yesterday I killed the Archdemon (my human mage Warden sacrificed herself and struck the killing blow), only to have the game crash during the epilogue, which I assume will screw up any import into Awakenings or DA2, so now I have to go back and do it again. I hope this doesn't prove to be a chronic problem - I played DAO once before on this same computer without any trouble, though that was with the Warden surviving.

Crashed again - seems weird that what I assume is one of the least memory/speed-intensive parts of the game is the one that my computer can't handle. It gets through the scenes of Alistair taking the crown and commemorating the Warden without any trouble, but then it quits to desktop when the slideshow starts. I *think* it still created an importable save file for DA2 - there's a file called "Rebecca.story" in the saves folder - but are there any Gibbed-style mods out there that allow you to create variables for DA2 if you don't want to use one of the pre-packaged scenarios?

Solona had no trouble getting through her harrowing. It was then she learnt that, having failed in his duty to adequately teach Jowan the dangers of blood magic, First Enchanter Irving chose to bury his mistakes with a lobotomy, instead of taking the apprentice aside and explaining it to him... So the plan was to help Jowan destroy his phylactery, and run off with his priestess lover. i.imgur.com/C6KNhZq.jpgWell I never said it was a good plan. And things were looking dicey until the Grey Warden showed up and got me off on a technicality. ( I was needed at Ostagar ) i.imgur.com/XoKd2Gy.jpgWell you can imagine my embarressment, when I got there to find an old woman wearing the same robes as mine. (Don't you hate it when that happens.) i.imgur.com/Bq9v1Aj.jpgWe were sent into the wilds, where we came across a scantily clad witch. i.imgur.com/iykQwtR.jpgProbably a good thing, because when we would later find ourselves overrun by Darkspawn, her mother came to our rescue. Apparently by changing into a Dragon and carrying us off. They do like to tell stories, them wilder folks. i.imgur.com/7DGSNOe.jpgThe young witch came with us to Lothering, and we picked up a giant and a chantry nutter. i.imgur.com/eWvSzO0.jpgThen it was off to Soldier's Peak, to get Alistair some decent armor (so he wouldn't look like such a nerd. TM) i.imgur.com/oM3G86R.jpgFinishing Soldier's Peak saw me hit Level 9 i.imgur.com/pOxXcDh.jpgSo off to the Circle to enlist my fellow mages. Wynne tried to blame this blood mage for what happened to the circle, but I remembered what it was like. The Templars watching, always watching, so I let her go. i.imgur.com/3BNdVqn.jpgAfter saving Irving from Uldred, I had a chance to reflect on things, and decided if there was a chance Irving was possessed, he should be made tranquil (for his own peace of mind, you understand) i.imgur.com/BcK3i0P.jpgWhich gained me 12 approval from Morrigan, Wynne... not so much. So with the Templars on board, I'm off to see Arl Eamon. Strangely enough, on the short boat trip from the tower, to Lake Calenhad docks, we were attacked by Darkspawn. ON LAND! Must be some sort of magic anomaly caused by the events at the tower? I should have paid more attention in magic anomalies class. We had to make a return visit to the docks to look for Sten's sword. On the way we came across what looked like an ambush. Yeah I know it isn't always an ambush, but this time it was.

With the circle destroyed, we couldn't help the child in Redcliff... i.imgur.com/ZWcjTq4.jpgKnight Commander Greagoir wasn't interested in letting Dagna study at the Circle. We had to go back and break the sad news.

Dagna didn't take the news too badly. i.imgur.com/FJwFXZk.jpgShe decided she was going to go to the Circle anyway, and thanked me for trying at least. (it was more than anyone else had done) Having got the dirt on Loghain from this guy... i.imgur.com/pYdq9ja.jpgWe set out for the landsmeet. i.imgur.com/gHihPkk.jpgI let Alistair relieve him of his head. i.imgur.com/6QMdBD4.jpgThen it was on to the real task. Putting an end to the blight. Usually at the gates, I have Shale go into regeneration mode. But the game never gave me control of her this time, and she was stuck in defender mode. i.imgur.com/PcIyUcs.jpgThey all run out of stamina, but they held the gates. The usual blood red sky shot. i.imgur.com/ASsmKBd.jpgI just picked up my 3rd specialization (Arcane Mage) so I could wear my Warden Commander Armour for the final confrontation. If you end the blight, you want to be remembered as a Grey Warden, not an apprentice of a failed circle. i.imgur.com/OJVjpAk.jpgAlistair tried to steal my thunder... i.imgur.com/SIoqr3K.jpgIn your dreams, Chantry boy. i.imgur.com/DCiJcdN.jpgAlistair decided to rebuild the Circle and give the Mages their autonomy. But Knight Commander Cullen would rule with an iron fist. i.imgur.com/J3XFC3S.jpg

I'm currently doing a Qunari playthrough.
Honestly, I find it unrealistic that everyone is so completely okay with having a Qunari mercenary as leader. Or that they're so unphased by her presence. Elves, dwarves, sure. They see those all the time. But Qunari, even if Tal-Vashoth, are more... alien.

After having left it on hold for literally years, today I finally finished DA2 in my "play through the trilogy by using a random dice rolls to decide each protagonist". The playthrough itself didn't go exactly to plan, as I'd hoped for this Hawke (decided by the dice to be a male Warrior) to be timid, doormat sort, which the blue/green selections allow for maybe 55-60% of the time...but the rest of the time is much more... cunningly diplomatic than I'd hoped (and of course, you can never really guess which you're going to get). If his character had gone to plan, his final speech would've been even more weighty in some ways. Oh well. He ain't gonna go down as one of my hall-of-fame Hawkes, but I did learn a lot about modding DA2 while getting him through it, so that should make future runs even better, but even more than that, it was fun to pick this little "project" back up, so for now I'm excitedly moving on to Inquisition, which honestly had the new character I'm most looking forward to playing, so this should be a grand old time. Once again, the assumption was made that any of the PCs could have been at the Conclave (though some were more likely than others), and fate ruled that the one who survived from ground zero was... Evelyn Trevelyan. Only newly Harrowed when the war broke out, many were already seeing her as having the potential as an Aequitarian leader, and true to that, she stayed out of the fighting as best she could. But now, she looks forward to finding a way to bring things to a peaceful resolution...

I'm not sure why, but on my latest run through the DA games, I think I finally feel "invested" in Thedas and its myriad characters and factions, to the point that I enjoy spending time there even when I'm just dealing with sidequests in between the big turning points or making my way through a long map. Previously I'd felt this sort of investment in the Mass Effect universe and to some extent the Witcherverse, but not so much Thedas. Maybe it just takes a few playthroughs (this is only my third) to appreciate all the detail and background put into the stories, or maybe I've come to appreciate the ways in which it *isn't* just medieval Europe but with magic and traditional fantasy races (which was kind of my first impression).
I didn't really pay much attention to DA until 2014, so I missed the initial reaction to DA2. I have to say that, if it is in fact viewed negatively (which I'm still not clear about), then I think it's vastly underrated. The fact that you can't go far beyond Kirkwall actually doesn't bother me at all - not every game has to be about Saving The World - and the occasional recycled environments are mildly annoying but certainly not game-breaking, and no worse than those same two bases you encounter repeatedly in ME1.
The one thing I've always struggled with a little in DA2 is figuring out Hawke's character and moral orientation. Most of the time, you can play as someone with a pretty solid ethical compass (if not exactly "lawful," given the corruption in Kirkwall and the way the city's mages are treated), but then at a few points you're dabbling in the shadier criminal underworld to get the game to progress (the initial year after arriving, Fenris's recruitment quest, and Mark of the Assassin). I'd skipped Fenris on my two previous runs and still did skip MotA on this one - it just felt out of character for my apostate Hawke who was genuinely trying to do right for the people of Kirkwall to decide to steal something just because Tallis asks and apparently have no problem with killing random guards to get at it. DAO and DAI are a little more consistent in giving the Warden and the Inquisitor a range of reactions and compatible motives for all the more important quests.
(I also think Hawke is just generally pretty quick to start jumping into risky situations right off the bat for someone without any special training or abilities, though that's sort of an issue with a lot of video game protagonists.)
I do still think DAI is underwritten in places. For example, this time around I'm playing as a Dalish warrior who most definitely does *not* consider herself the Herald of Andraste and follows traditional elven religion rather than the Chantry. When the Avvars in the Fallow Mire kidnapped the soldiers because they consider Ellana Lavellan a threat to their own religious beliefs, it really felt like there should have been an option for to explain that she herself doesn't believe this and has no problem with them practicing their own religion as they see fit. Instead they all just attack on sight and that's that. But maybe it helps that I know to expect that going in, and I'm also playing with the combat difficulty set a little higher so I don't feel like I'm just mashing buttons.

Did anyone else, on your first Inquisition playthrough, initially think that perhaps the Inquisitor and Dorian were going to remain in the future and the rest of the game would be about undoing all the damage that had been done in the meantime? I guess the point of it ended up being that it wouldn't be possible to recover from such a pervasive disaster, but at first I wasn't sure that going back in time would be possible either. Even when they first started talking about going back, I was thinking, "Can they actually do that, though?" It wasn't until fairly far along that I started to think that they wouldn't keep emphasizing going back if they were just going to pull the rug out from under the player.

Came back to DAI after many years. Decided to do a sort of re-play of my favorite Inquisitor (RP wise). Also do the Jaws of Hakkon and Descent for the first time. I never bought those two DLCs but seems like the EA app decided to give them to me. I don't even know when. Anyhow... The original character back in the day was actually started as a "douchebag for the sake of being douchebag" whose purpose was to explore the dialogue/choices I hadn't dared to pick before. But then some unexpected things happened and the roleplaying took over. He ended up developing a lot during the story and in the end actually became my favorite. Some of the past choices became quite regrettable at that point though (e.g. managed to annoy Blackwall so bad he left). This alternative universe version shares the looks (for the most part) and is still angry and blunt but his roleplay is also more redefined and consistent since his goal has never been to just piss off everyone lol. Still got the drunk Cassandra "rivalry" scene The OG one got this as well but then, surprisingly, he ended up romancing her in the end. Was one of my favorite moments (besides accidentally befriending Sera) but this one's probably going for Bull or Josephine because I still haven't done their romances.

OK, I feel like a total dunce asking this, but does anyone remember where on the war table the "Obtain an Amulet for Cole" option is? I clicked on every option in both Ferelden and Orlais twice and that title never popped up, even though all the walkthroughs just say to go to the war table and pick "Obtain an Amulet for Cole." Is this one of those where you have to click on something that's already complete under a different title in order to access it?

Isn't it story gated, I have a vague memory of having to have a conversation with Cole and he is hard to find or is talking to Solas. Sorry it's been a while this probably does not help.

Thanks all the same. I found it by watching a YouTube video of the quest - it's way off to the right in the Ferelden map. I guess I just managed not to see the icon somehow.

Yesterday I showed my wife that my Inquisitor is romancing the Iron Bull and she went "Ew, he is ugly".
And that got me thinking... if you zoom into his face, he is decent looking. But his proportions make him look grotesque, on top of the oversized horns and gray skin.
The Arishok was easier on the eye.

Is there some sort of dialogue bug post-Winter Palace that causes other characters to talk as if you only reinforced Celene if you pick any of the options where she survives? I used the "all of you are at fault" dialogue with Celene, Gaspard, and Briala to get them to agree to a truce, and Celene and Gaspard walked out on stage together to announce their cooperation and an end to the war. However, I've since heard somebody talking about Celene marginalizing Gaspard's people, and I think my Inquisitor had a dialogue choice where she says she's "sorry about Briala," which almost sounded as if Briala had been banished or executed or something.
Is this the game failing to recognize my choice? Or is the idea that Celene maneuvers to freeze Gaspard and Briala out even if she'd promised to cooperate with them?

Well, yesterday I killed the Archdemon (my human mage Warden sacrificed herself and struck the killing blow), only to have the game crash during the epilogue, which I assume will screw up any import into Awakenings or DA2, so now I have to go back and do it again. I hope this doesn't prove to be a chronic problem - I played DAO once before on this same computer without any trouble, though that was with the Warden surviving. Tha ttensd t ohappen to me on DAO as well. I neve rfigured ou twhy.
