I just got to the Well of Sorrows yesterday with my Dalish warrior Inquisitor and played through both letting Morrigan drink and having Ellana Lavellan drink, then did a separate save after each. I'm still debating which one to use. While I'm playing Ellana as a believer in the elven gods who will tell anyone asking that she is *not* the Herald of Andraste, I also figure some of her perspectives and priorities are evolving as she interacts more with people from outside the Dales, such that learning the truth about elven history or recovering what was lost may not be at the top of her agenda any more.
In favor of letting Morrigan drink, all three of the present companions (Cassandra, Cole, and Solas) expressed serious reservations about Ellana doing it, with Cole warning of many voices in the head of whoever does it. Ellana understands that the Inquisition has become very important to the world at large, and so potentially sacrificing her own free will to whoever or whatever Mythal may be could cause serious problems down the road. Morrigan does seem like she's prepared to take the risk, and as a mage, she probably is well-prepared to resist any negative influences from the Well. And if the whole thing does somehow go south, restraining a rogue, Mythal-controlled Morrigan might still be easier than restraining a rogue, Mythal-controlled Inquisitor.
In favor of Ellana drinking, neither I as player nor Ellana as a character find Morrigan entirely trustworthy, and at the same time Ellana isn't sure she can ask someone else to take this risk even if Morrigan is volunteering. Morrigan seems to kind of shrug off the possibility of mind control and appears to think that Mythal is either entirely fictional or is at least less powerful than elven lore would suggest. My previous two human Inquisitors assumed the same, but Ellana takes the possibility of a still-extant and powerful Mythal much more seriously. So for her, it's an open question who would be better equipped to resist being mind-controlled - Morrigan with her experience as a mage, or herself with her knowledge of elven history and belief in Mythal (and her friends and advisors who could potentially stop her if she got out of control).
Did anyone else play a Dalish Inquisitor and find this choice perplexing? I'm also indecisive because I think Ellana might be my favorite of my Inquisitors so far, and from a metagaming perspective, I don't want to make a choice that will turn her into a villain when Dreadwolf comes along. Has BW said much about what, if any, role the Inquisitor will play in Dreadwolf?

So did I miss something in the acquisition for Jaws of Hakkon, or are we really only going to the Frostback Basin because there might be information about the former Inquisitor? I understand that the Jaws will later be revealed to be planning an invasion, but without that knowledge, I don't think I would want Inquisition soldiers engaging them in combat right off the bat. It's not the Inquisition's land, and my Inquisitor isn't trying to annex territory or set up a new permanent body politic in Orlais or Ferelden. I know there are always mooks in action RPGs, but it seems like there's a good argument that the Jaws would be justified in deciding that the Inquisition isn't welcome there.

That was the main reason for going there I believe yes. As for the Jaws they aren' texactl ylocals either. The Stone Bear group are the only locals in the area. THe Jaws are just a group of angry Avvar that wanted to hit back because of wha thappened during the Blight back when they lived in Ferelden. Which the Inquisition had nothing t odo with but they don't care about that. That was down to the crappy leadership Ferelden was under at that time which unfotunately is another mess our Inquisitor is forced to clean up while looking for Ameridan. Also tempers could have also been amplified due to the rifts and such in the area. We do know a lot of the groups were on edge because of that as they were fighting each other whic hwas why the Inquisition was called in the first place as a means to try to restore order.

Anyway, I just recently finished Trespasser on my Ellana Lavellan playthrough. I think I definitely have a better appreciation for the Dragon Age universe than I did before, as well as for Inquisition itself, which I used to view as far too bloated. I do still think some of the combat in DA games can get repetitive, and I purposely skipped some of the more mundane sidequests like the shard collections and the astrarium puzzles (I'd give them a shot if I came across them, but was OK with not solving it quickly and moving on). Maybe a combination of feeling more invested in the story and knowing ahead of time which sidequests were just going to be all combat helped me avoid feeling disappointed.
I found the final cutscene of Trespasser a little strange - Ellana disbanded the Inquisition and supported Cassandra to become the new Divine, but then the cutscene shows Ellana presumably back at Skyhold, with Cassandra in her default "warrior" garb, talking about what "we" should do next. And I'm thinking, "Who exactly is 'we' with the Inquisition disbanded? And Cassandra, don't you have a monumentally complex organized religion to lead?" I also thought that there should have been a scene, either in the main game or in the DLC, where Lavellan visits her old clan and is asked whether she ever intends to return to her former life. I think "my" Ellana probably wouldn't, but it's not far-fetched to think she'd consider it, especially given that the Inquisition is finished and she had done her best from Day 1 to get people to stop calling her the Herald of Andraste. I'm thinking of creating a Tapestry where the Warden and Hawke are much more "pro-establishment" than I tend to play them, i.e. more sympathetic to Templars, orthodox Chantry believers, and not necessarily all that considerate towards underdogs/outsiders such as the Dalish elves, and then do a run through Inquisition where the Inquisitor is a human who does believe that he's the Herald of Andraste, sides with the templars over the mages, and pushes for Vivienne to become the new Divine. As you can probably guess, those sorts of viewpoints are *not* my own, so I'm not sure I want to invest the time in actually playing all three games this way, but I might want to give one of them a shot and set it up as an importable world state for Dreadwolf.

Continuing my sort of re-play. Glitches bring me joy. The Inquisitor did not let this bother him and actually became a Reaver.
"Ser, I heard there's abominations among you."
"Oh god, they are transforming. Can't train you sorry bye."

Well, this thread is pretty dead, but I started a new run on my PS4 Pro to finally get that stupid platinum Will play a Knight Enchanter. Will try to romance Cassandra, but it'll be hard considering I have fair weather friends turned on and I will do a lot of stuff she disagrees with. Let's see how this goes.

I got really into the game again, as usual. And since I'm doing everything for the platinum, I might as well take it slowly. trying to see just how high I can get my influence level before doing In Hushed Whispers. 6 is my goal, already at level 5 and picked up all the knowledge perks for dialogue and extra experience for codex entries. Of which there will be a lot in the remainder of stupidly large game. Have been keeping my intentions pretty vague in game, because fair-weathered Cassandra will DISAPPROVE all the time, and I can't have that lol edit: I slept on it and decided against trying to get to influence level 6 before moving the story forward. Mostly because I predict that will leave me with nothing to do while I wait for war table stuff to get done after In Hushed Whispers

I became a Knight-Enchanter. I have been trying out the one melee staff in the game, but I don't know if I can make it work. Have to juggle a lot of skills to be able to solo a dragon. I tried to do the same with Cassandra and I could easily solo the first dragon if I had wanted to (didn't finish the fight).
A fighter can basically do it with two skills: the shield block for guard generation and damage mitigation and Charging Bull for mobility and more guard.
Soloing a dragon with a Knight Enchanter used to be incredibly easy in early versions of the game. Also intensely boring. Don't know if I can make it work with this version, but I'll keep trying for a while.

So...I'm doing that thing again where I'm pondering about my "canon" world state (this emoji is very appropriate in this case)
...Like, I love my Wardens, but I haven't got the foggiest idea which one I actually want to implement as my "canon" one
"But LadyofNemesis, you always say that and then end up going back to your favorite anyway!" I know that, that's why it's so annoying
Should I wait until we actually get a release date for Dreadwolf...probably? But I don't want to be caught by surprise like last time where I'm halfway in a playthrough and not have enough time to finish it when the new game finally drops (which is what happened to me back when Inquisition was released, I was halfway in a DA2 playthrough at the time, and abandoned it to play with the shiny new toy...we all do it, don't deny it)
Anyways...I kinda want to play a "default classes world"...but I hate playing warriors (plus especially in Origins you're swamped in warriors (Sten, Alistair, Oghren, Shale and Dog if you squint) Then there's the part where I like being able to open my own locks, and in Origins I have a mod that allows mages to kinda do the whole "Knock" spell from DnD, which is kinda cool.
So...currently debating between my Tabris...or maybe shifting focus to either Amell or Surana, since Magi is my most played and favorite Origin (and I love the Fade (don't come at me) Like, Amell has that nice tie-in with Hawke, but Surana is this really nice blank slate that I can do with whatever I want, which is also fun!

My first encounter with a dragon was rather disappointing. I slapped a guard generating material on the melee staff of my Knight Enchanter and that seems to have done the trick. He's a mage, so of course the guard isn't as strong as on a warrior, but it seems to give just that extra cussion I needed on top of that stupidly strong barrier. Special mention to Cassandra, who has been able to stay alive during every dragon fight so far with much less babysitting than I am used to. Varric and Dorian just seem to die damn near instantly, which is exactly how I remember this game, lol. Always soloed all the dragons with either 'myself', Sera, or Varric. I seem to recall they fixed the bug that enabled Sera to tear through dragons in seconds, but the Varric build that does almost the same still works. Anyway, as I intend to finally platinum the game, I cleared most of the game before moving the story along. I 'finished' (main map quest, dragon, astrariums and shards) all base game maps except the Hissing Wastes and Emprise du Lion. Made a slight mistake in Halamshiral and now Celene rules alone. It's fine, I guess. It's just another slight mistake on top of some other small ones, like moving along Here Lies the Abyss too far so now I don't get to hear Morrigan and Alistair talk. Oh well. Great excuse to play the game again, but just right this time

I hit the first of the three remaining achievements, the one that requires you to close 75 rifts.
I'll probably just go for the platinium ASAP and then decide if I'll restart for somekind of canon run, or not. I only need to upgrade 30 tonics/grenades/potions and get all the shards and I have it.

So...in the ah...hopeful anticipation for a DA:D release, I'm working on replaying the first three games.
I dubbed around a bit to decide on a character to play for Origins, and ended up dusting off an old character, whilst at the same time giving him a new coat of paint As one can see from the image, he's going to be a Dalish Mage (modded), though if I decide to use him in the Keep, I'll probably make him a Warrior since he'll be an Arcane Warrior anyway Trouble is...I have no idea what to name him, since his original name (Arenor) no longer seems to suit him, I also don't feel like the default one (Theron) suits him either So...gonna need some ideas
Oh and he's going to have an earring in-game...the CC didn't like me giving him the earring, so gonna have to do that when he's already in the game itself

So I finally sat down and did this with a Cousland Warden who married Anora, allowed the Ferelden Circle to be annulled, killed the Architect, and romanced Morrigan and followed her through the Eluvian, and a Warrior Hawke who ordered Merrill to stop her experiments, executed Anders, and sided with the Templars. While I didn't try to make either of them an outright "bad guy," my thought was to have them be more suspicious of magic and less inclined to challenge the existing religious and political establishment.
My Inquisitor is a human Noble and a devout Andrastian who truly believes he was chosen for this role (though he'll probably change his mind after his trip through the Fade), and he did ally with the templars - I just finished "In Your Heart Shall Burn" yesterday. The thing is, as I often find when I set out to play a character very different from my own views, I find myself hesitating to go through with some of this. My intent when I started this playthrough was to have him choose Vivienne as the new divine, but now I'm considering having him choose Cassandra because she arguably has the purest faith and devotion to the religion and wants to move away from some of the pomp, while he might see Vivienne as too political. He'll still be more pro-establishment than my previous Inquisitors, but now I kind of want to make him an honest reformer rather than someone who just wants to put everything back the way it was. If I *do* go through with choosing Vivienne, I suspect I'll disband the Inquisition rather than give her control over it.
Though, this brings up something I've wondered about for a while - does the Chantry have any moral teachings other than the whole "magic is meant to serve man" thing? Leliana is an Andrastian and yet typically has the more ruthless and violent solutions at the war table, and I'm assuming at least some of the Orlesian nobles who consider deceit and murder to be endlessly amusing are also believers. Hawke is implied to be Andrastian at least once and can certainly make morally problematic decisions if you choose to play him/her that way. Yes, I know, plenty of religious people in human history have ignored certain moral teachings and done some really bad things, but you'd think we would occasionally run into somebody who's at least conflicted about some of this.
I would say that, while the vision of an impostor taking the Inquisitor's place during the templar recruitment quest was somewhat unsettling, it doesn't pack the same punch as the trip to the future with Dorian on the mage path, where everyone seems desperate and defeated and there's a sense that life in Thedas has turned into a waking nightmare. Also, are Red Templars still one of the main combat enemies even if you choose the templars? I assumed that corrupted mages would take their places, but the Inquisitor's still talking about them as a threat when he meets with Varric and Hawke.

I got the platinum, took a break from the game for a while and figured out what I wanted to do for a final full playthrough of the game. I thought about doing something like a canon run, but that would just mostly be repeating things I have done many times already. So I will do things very differently. I have never played a melee rogue, so that's what I'm gonna do. Ally with the Templars and that kind of nonsense . Will take the super stiff and stuffy party of Cassandra, Blackwall and Vivienne everywhere. I absolutely adore Vivienne btw, even though I disagree with her on pretty much everything. It's a blessing Bioware made it impossible to romance her, else I would have been doing that every single time The thing is, as I often find when I set out to play a character very different from my own views, I find myself hesitating to go through with some of this. Immensely relateable I will probably be facing the same.

So, this is the first time I have Alistair as Hawke's Grey Warden contact - he was either dead from killing the archdemon or King of Ferelden in my three previous playthroughs. I just caught up with him in Crestwood yesterday, and he had an interesting line where he looks uncomfortable talking about the Hero of Ferelden and says that he "walked a dark path." In the Tapestry settings for this playthrough, I had the HoF allowing the Circle to be annulled and doing Morrigan's ritual, but I'm pretty sure I also had him saving everyone in the elves/werewolves conflict, refusing to defile the ashes, and exposing Loghain's deal with the slavers. Does Alistair always say this, or is it based on specific choices (or some overall count of morally problematic choices)?

So...I decided to abandon my idea for the Dalish mage (mostly because I couldn't get the mods I needed/wanted to work ) And decided to replay my dwarven Warden, Ronja Brosca, who I also used in my YouTube playthrough last year.
At present she just got done with her Origin story, and has arrived at Ostagar.
During her origin story, she lied through her teeth to Beraht, and I managed to get a kill animation on him where she cut his head off
I'm still working on my canon world state, but presently I have it planned as rogue-mage-rogue-mage...and I'm going to try and use all the races as well, so kinda fingers crossed for Qunari playable race for Dreadwolf

Does Alistair always say this, or is it based on specific choices (or some overall count of morally problematic choices)? Alistair as a GW in DAI always says such lines about our GW (our GW walked the dark path + he even says he would not count on our GW) though only if he is not in romantic relationship with our GW. Even if we were friends, did things Alistair approved, even made him a GW as Alistair hated the idea itself to be a king. We were true friends. Though Alistair and our GW are alive only thanks to the ritual with Morrigan to which Alistair himself agreed. And here is where Alistair's hypocrisy shows up again (like in DAO in several situations): 1) if Alistair is in romance with our GW: there are NO such lines, only the good ones; 2) if there is no romance (e.g if take situation we were really friend with him in DAO) Alistair says those stupid lines for no reason at all.

I'm rewatching Dragon Age Absolution and I sure love having subtitles on.

So Ronja made it through Ostagar, some people (actually a lot of people) died, but at least it isn't raining! Oh wait...yes it was raining during the battle at night...well...damn?
Ronja met some people, everyone was taller than her...(camera angles are bonkers sometimes when you play a dwarf ), but at least no one spat on her, so that's nice She also met a dog...she thinks dogs are nice, horses are scary though...but ponies are okay (yes I know we don't have horses in Origins, shh)
So now we're in the Korcari Wilds...going to go to Lothering tomorrow

I'm slowly making my way through Origins
Ronja has recently arrived in the village of Haven, where we're going to try and track down Brother Genitivi, who hopefully has found the whereabouts of the Urn of Sacred Ashes She also helped save Redcliffe, Connor though...not so much
I also had her make a small start on the Crime Wave quest, and got the introduction letter from the Crows...going to pick those up tomorrow maybe as well, after I'm send back to Denerim by Alistair
On a side note, I've also been making progress on my world state that I'll be taking into Veilguard. I had at first thought of taking my Tabris along for the ride, but replaying my Brosca has made me fall in love with that Origin as well. So currently I have all four races set up for my world state, with Ronja filling the dwarf spot, Hawke the obligated human, and my upcoming Lavellan as the elf. For Veilguard I'm going to be playing a Qunari, provided they have some good hair options
Classes are quite simple; rogue (Brosca), mage (Hawke), rogue (Lavellan), mage (whatever our Qunari protagonist will be named aside from their title/nickname "Rook") I tried playing warrior, but I simply can't enjoy warriors in Dragon Age , as such after I've finished up my current re-run of Origins, I'll be restarting my Hawke (as well as my YouTube run from last year) as a mage

I started a new DAO pt...same race and class as the last one like 2 years ago because the plan is going full Dwarf over the 3 games (pretending Hawke is way shorter). Nora Brosca, duel wielding rogue. She's at Ostagar now, gathered the other rookies and ready to talk to Duncan to go into the Wilds meet darkspawns and witches.
