Started playing DA2 yesterday! Meet Lainey Hawke, Archer Rogue. I tried to create her as a bit boyish, but with a woman's charm still to her, and characterwise I will try out a bit of purple Hawke finally. But she can also be brash and intimidating and would defend her sister to the death. Other than that she is quite kind too I will do another f/f romance it seems She doesn't really fit with anyone else other than Isabela I believe, but she will be flirty with the others at times, too (whenever it fits)! Let's see how it all plays out Some pics: So far, mouse and keyboard are no problem here as well for me, yay! The only annoying thing is that I need to run the EA App in the background when playing it (bought it on Steam). Meh!

Inqy Zara went to the Oasis. Also, she resolved a little problem Josephine had. No more assassins are after her...and Zara just keep using those flirting options too. But the Oasis. I actually think we are supposed to understand something from it. At least, speculating is the fun part of visiting the place, otherwise it's very boring. It looks multi-cultural, in a weird way. Also, ancient, like prehistory ancient with the big block construction style. Also, somewhat wierd that the spirit door is the nature door (I didn't have enough shards to get to the end of it thought). Some part of the construction appears to have Dwarven decoration... But Orlais build some statues there, which might be as old as the rest of the place, but why bother building statues here (and it's not the only one like it in there). And also Ferelden, or Orlesians build Ferelden statues (both can be seen elsewhere in-game in Ferelden areas). Then this statue is a bit everwhere, looks Dwarven in design, but the crown skull kind look like Nevarra's Pentaghast heraldy (sorta). Also, some of the tunnels are clearly tombs with mummifed corpses. Then you get to the temple. It's elven, the stele there has Elven text. I took a stroll from a weird "path" that the devs totally expected players to take because there was loot on it... And there is this poor guy, what did you do buddy

Kara is starting to feel like her usual offensive juggernaught. I did decide to go for to experiment with the stealth mechanics and the results have been...frustratingly inconclusive. Like sometimes it seems to pop out of stealth immedietly, sometimes it seems stealth lingers, and not entirely sure I get crit hits off on each hit even as she is coming out of stealth then the first one. On the bright side though one of the tactics I think I have started to develop in this playthrough is all this stuff really pairs nicely with explosive shot. Like its a huge juggling of tactics and combat situations if I start an engagement off on Full Draw, Explosive SHot, or long shot. But while I am not sure of the above the really great part is that explosive shot every single one of its 'shrapnel' counts as a critical hit so she can go in and just devestate entire groups of enemies if anyone is standing close enough or if my companions have pulled them in. Plus this can also help on Hidden Blades and setting it off as well. Now Hidden Blades I don't think is a power that I ut on my Inquisitor's stuff last play through, think I went for immolate, and it is one of the like 3/4 rogue abilities in the game I think of as being kind of problmatic...but it still also does pack a wallop and the FTMs are meant to be magical anyways. Plus I think I got a 12000+ damage Full Draw in against a skeleton. As I mentioned last time first big objective of the day was to 'finish' the Exalted Plains or at least the preamble for Wicked Eyes that I do, I figure that rescuing the Orlesian soldiers trapped by the Undead 'should' net me reputation in court so now i roleplay that is what Kara does and why she does it...like assaulting Griffon Wing before Adamant as an easy staging area. The game does not actually acknowledge these decisions...but they make sense. First off though I thought I was on the last step of that but I forgot that Riverside Garrison was not actually the last quest and nor was it the quest across the river so had to do that first but fortunatley the operation put me right in the path so it was easy. 'For the Empire' actually turned into a really neat set piece given the above and Kara starting to finalize her build. Its weird even though I think in general Dragon Age works best as a squad on squad game some of the best set pieces are just you cutting through swaths of Undead or Darkspawn in the Deep Roads. Here there were a LOT of Skeletons and me and the crew just cut through them like big damn heroes. I actually found it funny on my party composition that A. I technically had two and a half tanks with me (Blackwall, Cassandra, and Vivi though I may still need to finish her build.) And speaking of Vivi I actually traded in her crafted staff for one of the trial rewards that deals constant cold damage. And B. despite choosing friendly faces to rescue the Oreslians still realize that Cassandra and Blackwall hate Orlesians and Kara is...kind of bitter. Only Vivi really stands them. The combat even with my tanks did get a bit rough with the Archane Horrors but I was even really tempted on taking video but even then I felt like it stretched on too long and did lose soem of its punch towards the end. In the run up to Adament mistakes were made. So because reasons I was going to take Iron Bull to the ritual site and Sera to the main assault on Adament. I ended up taking Sera to the Ritual Site and Bull to the assault...entirely by flipping them and unconsiously. Oops. The wife was even upset since she likes Sera's freakout in the Fade...but we can't take anyone. Also forgot to take Blackwall but then realize I don't think Kara has done that for playthroughs. Justification? She still thinks he is a Warden so does not want to risk exposing him to Cory. Mistake 2 I forgot to restock everyone on potions so we are a bit...low. Oh and I also started Cullen's romance a bit earlier then normal. The good news is I get the dance the bad news is for my usual RP I make sure that I do 'Last Resort of GOod men first' so Kara knows, for a fact, Dorian is gay that way the love triangle ends. I should have done Last Resort of Good Men earlier then this to preserve it...but now I am wondering if I get 'I think you led me on' option. Like I clicked on it on a lark because 'oh dancing' but then realized what I had done, no biggie though. Adamant is not as bad as I thought it was going to be...yet. Bull still likes to live dangerously with the low health but through multiple combat encounters he has only used up two health pots so its a win. Bit worried about the final boss but hey...what can you do? And so far keeping my RP intact and the objectives, dealt with the enemies on the battlements first mainly. Getting the Wardens to surrender. Feels kind of like a weird one since for my RP that A. Karaa really likes the Wardens and B. I want to justify her keeping the Wardens in the South around by having as few casualties as possible during Adamant. But yeah metagame knowledge i know if she gets them to surrender that they fight to the death. So this causes some glumness with me and wondering if this is the right choice but in the end she is also a hard ass, practical, and the Wardens are a legit enemy faction at this point so she has no idea what they would do if she lets them 'retreat safely' while armed. And like surrendering should be a legit thing to do if you are that freaked out about what is going on, like I don't think 'fighting to the death' is entirely unjustified either, but it just helps add to the tragedy of that choice. THough more on that when I reach Wicked Eyes because I will have mroe thoughts...if I remember...eventually. The other big RP note from all this is I do make Kara a bit of a Warden fan girl...so of course she would know enough about their history to recite it at them to convince them that Livius might not be playing with a full deck. But then its annoying that level of bsaic knowledge Kara would only have via a Wartable dialogue perk, sometimes I wish dialogue options were a bit more...natural in that regard? Also think it occured to me for the first time that Clarel was probably next on the MC chopping block given she just killed that one older Warden and the demon was being pulled through. We came very close to loosing the Wardens in their entirety. I stopped after the first memory recollection. Obviously also trying to make sure I can get that one quest done in the Fade to have the perfect crafting material to boost Dawnbringer's stats when I get there.

After all these years I finally did it, collected every bloody shard in the game. After I finish off the last of the dragons in Emprise Du Lion I am going to see what the fuss about these was about.

So just a quick update since I want to play as I wasted ages listening to song analysis and reviews. Chatted to The Arishok and tracked down a crazy elf who wanted to poison people, she died violently. Let Javaris live. Discovered that Merrill is in the rival state so when I gave her a gift it was negatively receive and fell further into rivalry. Probably knew that and forgot but had to backtrack to an earlier save. Gave Isabella a boat in a bottle.

And I'm (finally) done. Platinum for Inquisition with the final 15 achievements I needed, on Nightmare difficulty. And every side quest (including the Tiniest Cave), astrarium, bottle, dwarven mug, gear, dragon, landmark, region, mosaic piece, shard, skyhold customisation, schematic and song collected. Only took me 10 years.

So after the oasis, Inqy Zara thought Vivienne needed even more sand adventures and they all went to the Western Approach. And there was more sand. And a wierd still ruin. The place is actually wierd. It pre-date the 1st Blight, they tried to do some time magic there and it went wrong. Caused a rift in the Veil, so the mage (magister?) in charge just used the magic to freeze everything in "time". According to Cole, everything is just very very slow. And based on the Venatori in there, nobody visited since the Imperium sealed the place. Also, their goal wasn't even time magic, but creating a conduct to draft more magic from the Fade. But there is some strange things inside of the ruin. A similar gate to the Solasan temple (which is elven) and then this statue, which I'm pretty sure is not Tevinter in origin. Also, that section is called the Hall of Silence... And then the staff used for the ritual is actually from an Augur of the Lady in the Skies aka an Avvar. The blood is rather pretty here...creepy, but pretty. And after that and killing some demons, we explored some mines, fought some bandits and found some lost/stolen parcels. Still a lots of explore in the area. Also, that map opens like 20 war table missions, lol.

Just a couple musings on yesterday's adventures before heading in to the big finish.
First, the story Lavellan tells during Wicked Grace has the clan camped on the edge of the Tirashan Forest, which iirc is on the opposite end of the map from the Free Marches. What the hell were they doing way over there?!
Second, since Abelas and crew abandoned the temple, will he/they show up somewhere/when in Veilguard? I have no idea if the sentinels have even been mentioned anywhere and I don't want to know. But, just food for thought.
All I have left is to summon Mythal (no Fade trip since no Kieran) and then beat the snot out of Corypants. Then JoH and Trespasser. Should be able to finish everything over the weekend.

I lie to the cat. haha. Take that puddy cat. I use the magic words. I now have Golem pet that will follow me around.

My Western Approach adventuring has been quite boring. It's like Cassandra and Vivienne purposely ignore Cole. Poor kid-spirit.
We killed more fauna and bandits, which are also fauna I guess. And found a lonely University professor who needs help with his research now that his entire team was killed or ran away. We kinda only found 1 corpse of them and there supplies here and there.
There is a lots of corpses around the Western Approach, also lots of bandits for a place that is a desert with no towns with lots of aggressive fauna and darkspawns. And I doubt stealing from Wardens is healthy.

Finished the main game. Uhhh, got Vivienne for Divine. I didn't even get her final quest to meet the family so I'm not sure what happened. Sorry mages.
I tried for over an hour to get Solas and Bull to finish their chess game but it didn't happen. I got other banter between Bull/Cole and Solas/Cole but not that one. Also couldn't find another slave to set free in the Hissing Wastes (that is where I wandered) so never got that WT mission. Oh well, next up will be Jaws of Hakkon. I'll sub in Dorian for Solas and while I may not take Cass around everywhere, I'll definitely take her to meet Ameridan.

Kara finished Here Lies the Abyss and got on to all the pre work for Wicked Eyes Wicked Hearts and well I was starting to feel a little tired and really didn't want to push it.
Not much to say about Here Lies the Abyss other then the fact that I did get the Essense of Perfection for my later on build. Actually the side quest here is kind of more interesting then the main quest because something really weird is going on. Now a lot of the dreams of the dreamers are stretched all through the history of Thedas and various big set piece horror moments in the history of the setting. But the quest is us going in and giving these dreamers things to quell their fears. Now probably thinking way too much about this but then nine playthroughs in...or eight or whatever...the pickings are slim. And its just like is this just metaphysical puzzle to match things and show demonstration of lore are we actually...effecting history? Like we know Fade based time travel is a posisbility and we give a Warden a vial of Darkspawn blood. Its just...an interesting thing.
And well the next thing for the game dealing with all the post Here Lies the abyss conversations and it seems like...well two things here. First off sometimes its a bit tough playing a Warden fangirl because a lot of the companions don't like the Wardens. Like sorry Cassandra about that. So just letting the Wardens stay. Sending Livius to the Wardens which its just I was prepared to kill him but its all like 'well its what I want' so its like...I won't do it. Ser Ruth is also fun since I do tend to think about sending her to the Deep Roads but she does not like it if memory serves and her reason for it is...OK? That there is no symbolism if she does go off and do it granted its the perfect way for a Warden to die. In hindsight think I am missing options here actually weirdly enough but Kara is like 'well can't judge a Warden'. Which is just the least bad option, something I am still waffling about.
Secondly it does seem like many of the companion plots were waiting on me to complete Here Lies the AByss because its funny I know that the companion stuff can sometimes be tied to their approval so I was really surprised 'Solas Greatly Dissaproves' 'Solas dissaproves' 'Solas Greatly Dissaproves.' Sorry buddy! But then his quest triggered. Also Cole's triggered and then Cullen's Lyrium big scene triggered as well. I just have to wonder though if those preempted their Adamant conversations and I will have to get those later...maybe given I am doing Wicked Eyes like immedietly. And Cullen's scene was interesting, sometimes I think I am gaslighting myself because I know I got the 'flirt' option where Kara comforts him and encourages him to drop Lyrium before...but then not entirely sure if Kara has gotten Cassandra telling her that Cullen didn't want to dissapoint her. Of course Cullen is now off the sauce.
So off to Halam'shiral and the Winter Palace. I hate sometimes how I play video games I have annoying habits. Like I do follow my whims of what I want to play and what I am in the mood for...kind of. But its also really scheduled and what not because while I am playing a game sometimes I am wondering about the next one. Which also happens with new games and new games on the horizon. Obviously there is probably the biggest tent pole game I have ever wanted to play on the horizon on the 31st and I am replaying Inquisition specifically for this purpose. And just as obviously I am only playing Inquisition because I just had the conversation with myself that I don't think I would've made it unless I devoted a lot of extra time to doing these games. And I just want to get as close to Veilguard as I can. Mentioned all this before but this two quest two step is a pretty significant turning point in my campaign. THis game is just amazing in how much stuff there is to do it in it to in power. Because I still have a lot to do even as I think about how I am going to craft her Dragonbow and get things going. Still have like 4 Dragons to go. All the companion quests. Want to investigate the Darkspawn in the Western Approach. The tomb. The Knight's Tomb...does not seem so bad now that I am typing it up but yes could be a lot to do. Part of the issue is to I also kind of figure that it does take me about 3 weeks to finish the DLC(s) for the game. But that also assumes about an hour a day where on the weekends I can do a lot more gametime so theoretically I can loop through some of this in a day...and I don't want to leave too much lead time between the games. But then who knows? Anyways long story short should be fine if I start the end game by October 8th. Like 3 weeks away or so.

Yeah bloody Vivienne became Divine for me in my most recent PT and I wholly endorsed Cassandra and told Leliana and Vivienne not to be the Divine. Someone mentioned or I read it someone if you actually tell Leliana NOT to be The Divine that causes Vivienne to be the Divine but I do not know if that's true.

Damn got the Merrill bug where approval does not change, does it fix itself or do I need to do something?
The solution I read involved the console but I cannot get the damn thing working, it was working fine when I started.

Someone mentioned or I read it someone if you actually tell Leliana NOT to be The Divine that causes Vivienne to be the Divine but I do not know if that's true. I was actually hoping for Leliana so encouraged her in the final conversation. Maybe I should have done the opposite?

melbella Did you perhaps conscript mages? It gives huge boost for Vivienne while taking a lot of divine election points from Leliana.

I forgot to post a picture of my Hawke and my Bethany for this playthrough the other day I just adjusted her hairstyle for one of the presets, I rather like the long hair on her...even if it clips at times with her movements And here's another Kara shot, with her in one of my favorite rogue armors in DA2 (it's from one of the item packs, her daggers/axes are from that same pack)
Today I did; - Birthright as well as the small companion quest for Bethany with the portrait - Met with Isabela (though I've yet to recruit her) - Spoke with Varric concerning Anders (have yet to go and recruit him as well) - Went up Sundermount to deliver Flemeth's amulet, meeting Merrill along the way - A few side quests, as well as one added by a mod which sends you into the Fade during Act 1 (this way it also fits when you tell Arianni in Act 2 that you've "braved the Fade before")
- Made a start on Aveline's companion quest, which I'll likely finish tomorrow
Tomorrow I'll likely go on a recruitment spree to recruit Isabela, Anders and Fenris

I did but I was still hoping for Leliana. However, I think the bigger mistake was WEWH where I did the 3 way 'truce' instead of just Celene or Celene/Briala. Assuming we get to pick who is Divine in the CC/game set-up of Veilguard I'll just pick who I wanted anyway.
