I think mods should take effect right away...as far as I know. What mod is it? Increased inventory space. I deleted the mod folder, reselect what I want (including the new). Nothing has changed. The quota remained at 60 (no inquisition perk on this particular skill yet) Did you use the ModManager? Since you're talking about folders and stuff I suppose not. It's really easy using the manager and so far all of my mods work so I'm guessing something went wrong with your mod installation. You can get the manager here via the DAI Tools Suite Loader.

I have restarted the game (DA:O) from the save I made in September 2014 when I bought Origins to try it out At the time the game just did not catch my attention enough, ao I dropped it about an hour in, playing Prologue. I managed to get the graphics to show up brighter by resetting the resolution and turning off the film grain - a trick I learned in Mass Effect. It now looks Okay. Not great, but not that horrible either. After the initial confusion with just how the combat works, and how to select the targets, I finally finished killing the very patient spiders in the basement of the Circle's Tower and went through the obligatory demise of the quaint little village, which in this case was a warcamp of a jolly blond king. I played as far as getting the second companion. Overall, I am having flashbacks to both NWN2 and Baldur's Gate, with a lot of familiar themes and characters. I think I will keep going, unless the minutiae of keeping the inventory, gearing and filling out the spellbook will become too much. My character seems to gain a lot of spells, so I am worried about abilities overload.
Ooh, a newbie! Welcome to the Dark Si....er, I mean, Thedas!
Inventory management in DAO is about as complicated as in ME1. My advice: if you or a companion aren't going to use it, sell it. You need the gold more than you need 10 different longswords. Buy whatever backpacks you can (did you get either of the two available from the quartermaster at the war camp?)
Companions, imo, start with terrible stats and load-outs. I don't find them very helpful until I've had a chance to spec them the way I want. A lot of armor/weapons have min stat requirements so I prioritize increasing each person's main stat as soon as possible (warrior/strength, rogue/dexterity, mage/magic).
In the first town you go to, make sure to go everywhere and talk to everyone.

Though avatars look a bit odder than in ME1, with my mage's body looking like she has really short legs and a really long waste in those robes. But that's to be expected with customizable characters vs the pre-set Shepard.
Question: is there a Rogue type companion in the game, and how soon I get to pick him/her up? Morrigan is fine, but I need someone to pick locks, and I liked having archers in the Intro. Unless it is played in a party of 4 as in the prologue? Or does it wary depending on the Chapter like in NWN2?
Does the graphic make a noticeable improvement for DA2, good folks?

The lockpick based on Cunning, as the Persuation (this is why I usually spend points to Cunning with mages or warrior too). The rogues: Zevran when he join, have low skill on lockpicking, Leliana a bit higher – as I remember. (If I remember correctly ~25 cunning need (I not sure about it), + lock picking skill – for persuation also ~25, +persuation) You can find Leliana in Lothering, in the inn. Zevran will join later. I think DA2 have better grafics, really good face animation (at least I like it). DA2 rogues: Varric, Isabela, Sebastian (dlc character) The lock picking based on Cunning, for the most difficult lock need 40 (no specialisation for it). For equip the better blades need enough dexterity.

If I add a new mod I fire up the manager, tick the boxes for the official patch and all mods that I want and click Merge. And it works just fine. Also I started using mods mid-playthrough and everything worked. So I have no idea what might be the problem in your case, sorry.

And hopefully, you will want to do other PTs since there are five different origins, each of which gives you a different perspective of the world of Thedas. Also, do you have Origins Ultimate Edition? That has all the DLCs. Two of them involve things done in the main game and one of these adds a new companion. Have fun!

deadlydwarf Thank you, and yes, I have the ultimate, so I will have the DLCs included, at least the Awakening. While I love the modding community, I think I am inclined to agree with Catilina that the vanilla is the best first time around, unless the game is broken like KOTOR2 was. So, for now, I will just play the game "out of the box". The graphics is not the best, but it is not game-breaking bad for me, like I felt it was in NWN1 or Arkanum.

From the Diary of Kara Trevelyan: Something else occured to me, from the conversation with Solas. He asked me if the Mark changed me as a person. If it gave me any new perspectives. This is quite the question. And I wasn't sure what to say. But in the end, no the mark has not changed me as a person, it just gave me the opportunity to change. To reach my full potential finally.
I only bring this up because I find I can pass it on. Sutherland, he was trapped on the Storm Coast, and I rescued him. Not only was he one of my people, but he quite forcibly reminded me of...me...2 years ago. Perhaps more eager then I was to actually face the challenges then I was in the beginning. BUT, still enough like me to be familiar. And now maybe he too can have his chance...maybe one day he can even be Inquisitor? Wouldn't that be funny.
Anyways after rescuing him and Co we headed off for Northern Orlais...Southern Tevinter? The shrine of Dumat. Where...well the whole place was chilling. Creepy even. Discovered a former Tevinter magister who was captured. He claimed that Corypheus wants to turn Calpernia into a living weapon. It sickened me, shocked me, of all the the things I have heard about Corypheus this has been the most shocking, he truly must be stopped. But I am comforted in the knowledge when we face his forces in the Arbor Wilds we will have the advantage. So yeah. Time to start the end game...well sort of. It has been a hell of a playthrough and for my 'canon' playthrough it is something definitley worth considering especially with ME A just around the corner more or less. Just hope I have enough time to play it. Gonna be busy. But yeah I have never, ever, done Sutherland's quest in the Storm Coast until...now. AND I am just wondering how Darkspawn could have planned to ransom him off to the Inquisition?

A question about the mods. As I understand it, the files have their own folder in DAI. You select what mods you want to use in the game every time a new character is made. If you want to add in new mods, delete the folder and make a new one with the selection you want. * Does this affect current PT? I tried to add in a new mod for the current PT and as far as I can tell, it's not working. I assumed when the character is made, it's like casting a new mold, nothing can be added in. That comes to the next question. Say I start another character but this present character I'm playing has not finished the story yet. I want to make a new selection of mods for the new character. Does this affect the present character? I'm thinking not since I observed no effect in *.
You should be able to install mods mid-game and have them take effect. For the increased inventory mod, are you sure you are using the correct one? There are two versions, the first one doesn't work with the latest patches but the revamped one does. So long as you have not increased your inventory via the perks (and you said you haven't) it should work with no problem. The only other thing I can think of is maybe you checked more than one box for how big you want it to be? That might cause a conflict.
One thing I don't like about mod manager is everything is checked by default and you have to uncheck whatever you don't want. It's fine until you get to those mods where a single one has a ton of options.
What the hell is that placed called, Frostback Basin, that place in Jaws of Hakkon. I mainly went there to get that force field type of ability. Don't care much for that area, reminds me of Kashyyk or Endor. Plus the fights are hard. They don't bloody level with you, they have to be 10 levels above you.
Recommended level for starting JoH is 20, and they aren't kidding. The enemies are very tough. What difficulty are you playing on?
But, Zevia finally got some flirting back from Iron Bull after she hit him with the stick and after the assassins showed up. The first "ride the bull" scene was underwhelming, but I know there is a funny one coming up. All in all, while I think this romance had potential, but it has seemed really light on content compared to Cullen and Dorian.
This was the problem I had with the Bull romance - it didn't really feel like a romance for the first half of the game. It did get better in the second half, but I'd still rate it fairly low, and definitely not as good as Cullen, Dorian, Blackwall, or even Solas (with Trespasser). Vanilla Solas romance was my least favorite of the men due to the lack of content and the dumping.

I wondered that too for a long time. Now I think it's more like, whoever nabbed them realized they weren't worth anything, then dumped them off in the middle of a darkspawn horde.

Meh... not really Mass Effect in terms of companions so far. Morrigan is just horrible, mean and snappy, and dumb to boot. Her "edgy" idea was to go assassinate a prince. Yep, that's right. Walk right through army and bodyguards and assassinate a prince. What an idiot. I guess it's because she is a romantic interest for a male PC, by some reason a lot of them are complete and utter.... Asked her an innocent question, she called my character stupid and dropped 10 influence; felt like telling her to take a hike right there and then; but of course she is plot-important, because, again, she is a romantic interest for a male PC.... Not talking to the hussy any more, waiting to drop her for literally anyone else. Wasted a bunch of time trying to talk a priestess to free Stan or see if there is an option that pens up to go investigate the farm murders or something. Nothing came up. Morrigan can do hebalism. click on her, if she doesn't have the Herbalism leaf in her quickbar, open her skills and click on it. You will see what recipes you know, if you have the ingredients, just click on it to make it. The same goes for a rogue and trap making. And you yourself for making potions. Go to the Tavern in Lothering and get Leliana. She will also be able to talk to the Revered Mother for you.

If you have visited camp the first time (there is an icon in the top right of the map screen) then you can ditch her if you want. I would keep her around for a first time PT though. Have you recruited Leliana? Take her with you to talk to the Chantry mother to get Sten released. You may need to have at least 1 point put into Persuasion skill though (I don't recall) and making a donation makes her more likely to agree (of course ). If you are a rogue you can just unlock the cage if you have lockpicking skill. Not sure if Leliana can do that or not.
Re: crafting - you need recipes (can be found/bought/received via quest) and the proper skill. The higher the skill, the more powerful the potion you can make, if you have the recipe.
Herbalism allows you to make health and lyrium potions. Anyone can use health potions; only mages can use lyrium potions. Poison allows you to make poisons, weapon coatings, and bombs. You also need at least 1 point in the skill in order to USE them.
Are you still in Lothering? If you haven't completed one of the main quests, go back there. Talk to Elder Miriam and she will give you a quest and health poultice recipe. I think Morrigan has 1 point in herbalism to start so have her in your party, then switch to her to make the poultices once you have the ingredients.
To make something, select the skill either from the quick bar or from the menu, then select what you want to make. The button should light up if you have everything you need. If you don't, then you'll need to go pick some elfroot in the field nearby.
Not sure if you read the ME codex while playing, but the DA codex offers game play tips under the "controls" section.

You should be able to install mods mid-game and have them take effect. For the increased inventory mod, are you sure you are using the correct one? There are two versions, the first one doesn't work with the latest patches but the revamped one does. So long as you have not increased your inventory via the perks (and you said you haven't) it should work with no problem. The only other thing I can think of is maybe you checked more than one box for how big you want it to be? That might cause a conflict. One thing I don't like about mod manager is everything is checked by default and you have to uncheck whatever you don't want. It's fine until you get to those mods where a single one has a ton of options. I took the inventory mod in the list of popular mods. There is a button to open up a box to type in the space wanted, default is 400. Maybe this is the wrong mod? I tried again just now and noticed a message at the end of the merge; the inventory mod is missing a config line or something. P.S. at the loading screen msg; horses are the fastest way to travel across Thedas (or something like that). Yeah right.

(Been a while coming, My system fried, literally, Taken me a while to get my main characters on my various games back up to previous development levels. Anyways, on with the story...)The journey of Warden Commander Drako Amell, The Hero of Ferelden: (DA:O, DA:A, and Witch hunt) The Chronicles of Tyros Hawke, Champion of Kirkwall: Path of Inquisitor Mason Trevelyan, Herald of Andraste: For a thousand years, the Templar Order has stood as guardians of Mages. Protecting Mages as much as they protected others from Mages within their Circles of Magi. A delicate balance of safe haven and prison. A balance that has been torn asunder by the destruction of the Chantry of Kirkwall at the hands of an abomination and the following Annulment of it's Circle at the hands of a mad Knight Commander. I am Mason Trevelyan, son of the noble house Trevelyan of Ostwick in the Free Marches. As a child I was intended for a life in either the Chantry priesthood or the Templar order. That was until my magical talents began to surface. I was sent off to the Ostwick's Circle of Magi. Protected, but stifled. Educated, but Isolated. Some Mages despise the life within the Circle seeing it only as a prison, but I found peace in those halls and valued the chance to learn about the power inside me and what it could do. I did not see my magic as a curse as the Chantry would have you believe, but as a gift. A small spark of the Maker's power. I excelled in my studies and became the youngest enchanter in the Ostwick Circle's history. When the rebellion began I joined the rest of the Aequitarians in condemning the rebellion. Neutrality was not an option however. Like it or not, we had to fight for our very lives. When The Divine called for peace summit, I was chosen to join the delegation to the Conclave due to my family ties to the Chantry. It did not go well... From the start, the Conclave seemed doomed to failure. The Templars demanded total submission by the Mages while the Mages insisted on more liberties. Back and forth for days the arguments went. If not for Divine Justinia, the conclave would have broken the first hour after it began. She did all she could to hold us together, but even then I knew that this act of desperation would only lead to blood shed. All it would have taken was one misplaced word or defiant glare and even The Most Holy would not be able to stop the carnage... Carnage is what came, but not by Mage nor Templar. Something else... A hidden ancient evil that we would not be uncover until it was far too late... ...I stood on the walls of the Temple of Sacred Ashes that night. Watching Mages and Templars streaming in from all over southern Thedas. For days they had been flooding in to hear word of a peace or to fight along side their brothers and sisters in arms. They just kept coming... As the hour was growing late, I headed toward my assigned quarters to prepare for the next days shouting match. I was stopped by the sound of strange voices in the halls. What happened next was a blur to me. I awoke in chains with no knowledge of what had happened. I only knew I was bound and surrounded by soldiers I was certain would kill me if I so much as sneezed. I slowly looked around the room for some way to mount an escape, but I was stopped by a stabbing burning pain in my hand... It was glowing. A ribbon of emerald energy flowed from my palm. A power I cannot even begin to describe radiating from it. I begin to having flashes of strange images and sounds. I could not tell if these were real events or a half remembered dream. My fascination with the glow on my hand and visions of other worldly things was broken by the sudden entrance of two women... My interrogators. One a soldier. The other... something else. I could not answer their question as I did not know the answers, but they informed me of what happened to the conclave... or atleast told me what little they knew. An explosion of unimaginable power destroyed the temple and everyone in it... everyone except for me. I alone survived... making me their prime suspect. I thought they would kill me, but instead I am lead away and shown the true horror. A giant rip in the veil high in the sky. A rift in the very fabric of reality. Nightmares of all sorts were falling through. Many of those who had come to await the conclaves outcome were barely able to contain the demons and spirits that had been set loose on the area. And my jailer, Seeker Cassandra Pentaghast, seemed to think that I could stop this somehow. I didn't even know what I was looking at... ...Cassandra leads me to a forward camp explaining what she could. All I knew was that my hand was on fire and I was struggling to even walk straight. A pain I would have to ignore and battle through as Demons were every where. On our way to the camp we came across a Dwarf, Varric Tethras, and a strange Elf, Solas, fighting a number of Demons. Once the demons were dealt with, Solas is revealed to be the only reason I was still breathing. He seemed to know something of the mark on my hand, but said only that it was due to his wanderings in "strange and forgotten places". I did not trust anyone at this point, but him especially so... He didn't fit. Even the dwarf made some sense, but this Solas... something was wrong about him. He did save my life though, so I chose to set aside my concerns for the time being and we continued on to the forward camp to plan the next move. Why they had not simply killed me was made evident by Solas taking my hand and holding it up to one of the small rifts. A stream of energy shot between my palm and the rift. Through the power of the mark, I could close the openings... the small ones anyway. You could drop a city through the opening in the sky... ...When we reach the camp, we find my other integrator, Leliana, arguing with a Chantry Cleric. A Cleric that immediately demands my execution. A demand that Cassandra is less than amused by. He is dismissed and I am asked to plot our course up the mountain back to the Temple to the source of this madness. How I went from being a prisoner to being group leader is still a bit of a curiosity to me. Either we were to go up the main valley with the army or take a side path through the ruins. The Army was facing heavy resistance and needed as much support as they could get. I wasn't entirely sure they wouldn't try to hack my head off on sight though. Either way, it would be dangerous. I took my chances with the army in the valley. Assuming they didn't attack me, it offered the more certain chance of actually reaching the ruins. It takes some time, but we reach the top of the temple, what use to be the second floor of a six story temple, and find the original rift. Solas said the rift was sealed, but energy was still pouring out of it making the larger rift high above bigger by the second. Solas directed me to open this lower rift with the Mark so it could be closed properly. How he would know the "proper" method of closing these rifts is a question we did not have the time to spare for me to ask... ...Solas' advise, while troubling, proved to be the correct action to take here. The giant rift was still in the sky, but it had stopped growing... for the time being. The "breach", as people have come to call it, would have to be studied further for a method to actually seal it and mend the veil. I suddenly felt weak and needed to rest. I lost consciousness about half way back to Haven and woke again in another place I did not recognize. There were no chains nor a guard ready to kill me this time at least. Only a small elven girl dropping off some items. She scurried away when she saw I was awake, but not before telling me to seek out Cassandra in Haven's Chantry. As I approached the Chantry I couldn't help but notice that everyone I pass is saluting me and lowering their heads. Last time they saw me they wanted to kill me. Something very strange was going on... ...When I got into the Chantry I find Cassandra and Leliana and some others arguing with the Cleric from the forward camp. Mostly about what to do with me. Cassandra was having none of of the Clerics babble. She no longer believed I was responsible for what happened at the Temple, or atleast that I didn't blow the place up. Cassandra, fed up with the Cleric, brought out a writ from the late divine and declared the "Inquisition reborn". Not entirely sure what that meant, but it shut that bastard up. He left in a big huff. Whatever Cassandra's declaration meant, I can only assume it will mean that the Chantry support their group has been getting will stop. I was asked to stay on with them as I am the only one able to close the rifts, but closing the Breach in the sky is currently beyond my ability. How exactly we are going to seal that thing is going to depend on getting the Mages and Templars to stop fighting long enough to keep the world from ending. The man leading the Soldiers of this Inquisition is a guy by the name of Cullen. A former Templar as I understand it. Guess he's our acting General now. He seems certain that if we could get the Templars to support us that they could weaken the power of the Breach so that I could close it. I lack his faith is such a plan, but... maybe... I have seen the Templars do some impressive things in regards to dispelling and weakening magic, but something the size of the Breach?... I don't know. The only other option is to have the mages amplify the power of the Mark on my palm. An equally uncertain, and dangerous, prospect. Glad I'm not in charge of this outfit... Maker, don't let them put me in charge... ...Word has been sent out about the Inquisition. The reaction is somewhat mixed, I hear. I've spent the past couple of days getting to know some of the people. Resources are not what they could be. I've been searching the local area for materials to forge arms and armor for the troops. We also need mounts. Recliff's horse master is in the Hinterlands. He is said to have the best horses in Ferelden. However, our scouts tell me the fighting between Mages and Templars is raging in that area. We will need to deal with that before we will be able to safely get any horses out of the area... assuming we can make an arrangement with the Horse Master... ...After a briefing with the scout leader, a spirited and rather cute dwarf named Harding, we head down to a make shift village filled with refugees and a Chantry mother that may be sympathetic to the Inquisition. She won't be particularly useful in a fight, but could help us strategize about how to deal with the Chantry. When we get there, the fighting between Mages and Templars has spilled over into the refugee area. We deal with them as quickly as we could and our soldiers take up positions to defend the area afterwards. We find the revered mother and come to an understanding. She heads for Haven with a pair of our scouts while we tend to the refugee camps needs. The people are having trouble with food and fighting off the Ferelden cold. Solving these problems will go a long way to winning over hearts and minds which will make it harder for the Chantry to gain support in acting against the Inquisition. The rebel Mages and Templars should have some blankets we can use, steal might be a better description, and since we have to scout the area anyway we might as well do some hunting too... ...We wander the area and put down a few fights and gather food for the refugees. As it's getting late we look for a place to make Camp and find a nice spot by a lake with a good over looking view of the area. Defensible enough. We set up camp and discuss our next move tomorrow. We will be continue hunting and then go looking for the rebel Mage's and Templars that are making trouble in the area. I find myself continuing to be impressed by Cassandra. As odd as it seems, I think I am attracted to her... Not sure that is something she would find to be welcome though. I am a Mage and she's a Seeker after all. Not exactly a story book romance. Something for another day. Now is not exactly "good timing"...

Oh wow. the whole thing just went haywire for the first time. After the fight with Cory and the rescue, the cutscene to Skyhold totally failed. I get a white screen. I can get my char to swing the sword because I can hear the sounds but the game just hang there. I think one of the mods is causing the glitch. I just cleaned up some mods and it's still happening. I think I know which one is glitching the whole thing out. Going to find out. P.S. I tried a few times, getting annoyed each time it failed. Then I sit back and considered the mods. The old set I used worked because the previous PT went off without a hitch. Clearly, some of the newer ones are causing problems so I removed a few. The one on more fade touch mat has been throwing up a sort of error msg so I removed that one too. The cutscene went through. * Guess what armor I chose for Skyhold?

Wasted a bunch of time trying to talk a priestess to free Stan or see if there is an option that pens up to go investigate the farm murders or something. Nothing came up. Not sure what I am supposed to do with herbalism either, as no character in the game bothered to give me any run through crafting in the game yet, oh well.... Going to try to do another sidequest or two, and if I don't get a companion to rotate out Morrigan, I think I am just going to go back to ME. Morrigan can do hebalism. click on her, if she doesn't have the Herbalism leaf in her quickbar, open her skills and click on it. You will see what recipes you know, if you have the ingredients, just click on it to make it. The same goes for a rogue and trap making. And you yourself for making potions. Go to the Tavern in Lothering and get Leliana. She will also be able to talk to the Revered Mother for you. Thank you. I have herbalism on my character, so I do not need Morrigan. I did not find a tavern on Lothering, I will go right away, so I can finally dump Morrigan! EDIT: And got it! No time for anything till tonight, but what a relief! Yay!!!!

Here is the one I'm using. The default value is 400 but you can pick a different value by selecting the option in the mod manager list. It sounds like you can also pick a different value manually, but I use the non-configurable (all in one) version and just check the 1000 box.

Oops, sorry one more question in respect to the common game's mechanics: The tip said to talk to the companions around the campfires. Do they mean any sort of a large bonfire structure or what counts as a place of rest/banter? Do we get something like a Normandy or is it any tavern, or is there an interface feature I do not see that sets the camp for the night like in Baldur's Gate?

Played through Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts. I usually take my time in this main story quest with other Inquisitors, but in Alexandra's case, she wanted to get the mission over with asap. She despises boring, stuffy parties, one of the many reasons why she distanced herself from her family. Cassandra had to agree with her as well.
The fun part for the lady Inquisitor was rampaging through the mobs of Venatori roaming around the winter palace during the hunt for Empress Celene's assassin. Also, while she, Cass, Varric and Dorian searched in the royal wing, Alex found a naked Orlesian Chevalier tied up in one room.
"Please! Don't let Gaspard see me like this!" the guard pleaded, "The Empress lured me here!"
Cassandra let out a disgusted snort.
Dorian shook his head laughing.
Varric shrugged and took out his notebook. Scribbling down all the details of their latest adventure.
"I'm... Just going to pretend I didn't see this..." Alex sighed and walked a few steps away from the bed.
"Wait! Don't leave! I'll do anything! Anything! Just get me out!" the guard called.
The Inquisitor turned around. "Tell that to whoever's going to find you next," she remarked.
The chevalier grew angry. "You piece of shit! Let me out of here!" he shouted struggling against his restraints. But his curses were left to deaf ears.
Moving on, Alex and her team walked into a trap in the garden where a few Venatori archers and an open fade rift were waiting for them. Adding to that, Grand Duchess Florianne revealed herself as one of Corypheus' minions and the one to kill Celene.
Alex rolled her eyes. "Can this night get anymore complicated?" she grumbled quickly dishing out the enemies and sealed the rift with a flick of her wrist.
Racing back into the ballroom just in time for the Empress' speech, the lady Inquisitor decided to embarrass the Grand Duchess in front of the large crowd. Beat the Orlesian at her own game, why not? When the Orlesian guards arrested Florianne, the next decision was to be made. Who was going to lead Orlais? Well, Celene retained her throne. The Inquisition's main goal at the winter ball was to save her anyway. As for the other two, Gaspard got the "Off with his head" sentence and Briala was thrown under the bus.
Afterwards, the lady Inquisitor didn't bother staying at the party. She was so done with the night. If one more pompous noble got in her way again, she'd knock them out cold.
