So, on the river of the Exalted Plains, I found a headless dead body right next to a very large dead fish. Why. Haha I sometimes wonder if the artists for these games like...Wonder wth they're drawing.
Then I chose the honest answer with the Dalish regarding the spurned mage apprentice. He called a demon and it didn't go well. And lost 2 Dalish favor points. Which kinda ticks me off. I'm making you aware that YOUR clansmen did a thing YOU don't approve of. Why does that make ME the bad guy. And I don't feel like hunting bear pelts, so meh to get their favor. And I guess since I didn't shop often in general, I hadn't run into the issue of the Craftsmen not trading with even a Dalish elf. Geez. How do these clans even meet for Arlathven if they won't even trade with one of their own? Just cuz I'm hanging out with humans, hey for even have basic materials for repairing their aravels! Can they really afford to be paranoid about who they do business with?

I got all my screenshots uploaded yesterday.
Standing in the hand of the colossus.
This probably really hurt.
Ah, yes. Look at all those dialogue options that I never accessed until PT #11.
Kind of a creepy one of Hakkon just as he was dying.
Another creepy one - Fen'harel mosaic at the Temple of Mythal.
Back to fun stuff - Viv asking about Harding during spa day.
And the version if you answer no:
Giving the Crossroads skeleton back its top hat.
Final portrait of everyone

Was re reading parts of the Masked Empire. I have more information and more understanding now since I had last read it. I know it's a fictional world, I'll say that up front. The books are always more serious than the game. In the game you are the hero as everything goes the way you want it to. In the books, mostly everyone loses. 1. I'm sad that Falessan died. I'm sad for a Solas who made that choice. 2. I'm disappointed that we didn't get to see Briala and Solas finally have a chat.
I'm upset for the treatment of the city elves in Orlais, which are already treated better than other countries city elves. I'm upset at the Dalish for not trying to adapt to a new world. And not treating Briala as the next elven hero. At the same time, I respect that they want to be their own culture. 3. I'm upset for the world that was lost. We hardly know the world before the Veil, but elves from that time desperately work to get it back so that must have been something. I put myself in the eyes of Solas. A world of Tranquil, barbarians, a mess. There is beauty in the struggle, but the elves seem to have way more against them than the usual minority, one being they are dying out. 4. If it's a losing battle, then is it right to stop him? Or is this more about evolution; in a Veil less Thedas, elves are NOT the fittest. Nor the dwarves apparently.
All philosophy, of course. One thing to sacrifice to yourself, but what of loved ones... In Origins we fought to save Thedas from the Blight only to find out two games later that Thedas is unnatural and should essentially be destroyed. Such a weird direction. And although fiction, I'm a bit depressed. I'm no reality history buff, but I'm guessing a lot of the stuff in Dragon Age has a parallel to real life. And whoever they are, I'm sad for them too. 1. So Falessan wasn't just a Dalish elf? He was a servant of Fen Harrel who paid the price for leaving the power of the eluvians in Briala's hands rather than with Solas/Dread Wolf? (It would explain his willingness to help destroy a Dalish clan, however annoying they were. 2. In general, I'm disappointed how little they used Briala in the game period. She should've had a part the moment the game started to bring in Eluvians; she should've been in Trespasser. Oh well... 3. Now this aspect of Trespasser leaves me with some questions... a. Fen Harrel (Solas) wanted to overthrow those elves who falsely claim to be gods (enuvaris?) and enslave other elves, so he created the Veil and exiled the "gods" to the Fade.
b. Now he's decided this was a mistake so Solas now wants to get rid of the Veil? Is that what his orb (taken by Cory) was intended for? If this is the case, why has he been helping the Inquisitor in fighting the breach? Why not help Cory instead?
c. Why was Solas in hibernation so long? A negative after effect from creating the Veil?
d. What do Solas' "elven artifacts" really do? Do they strengthen the Veil as he says they will? Or has he performed an "Anders" move on the Inquisition? 4. Doesn't a Veil-less Thedas look a lot like the Cory-dominated future you see in Redcliffe? A couple minutes talking with Dread Wolf unmasked in Trespasser doesn't explain why returning to a Veil-less world is preferable. Finally, (sorry if this is a dumb one) why does Solas go nuts when he finds out about the GWs' being fooled into doing the demon-binding ritual? Is he concerned for the Old Gods? Or is he concerned about the binding of demons/spirits altering their purpose as happened with his friend on the Exalted Plain? Regardless, I look forward to the next game.

Gazing at what should have been flourishing blooming flora, Alaryn understood what Harding meant by sudden frost. She reached out to touch the leaves of the nearest bush. The leaves shattered into white flakes. A branch crumbled. She surveyed the white surroundings. Too sudden. Life snuffed out within heart beats. Was it the rifts or the work of the Red Templars or the demon? Or was it a combination of all three?
Crestwood was blanketed by incessant rain. No surprise there considering the truth that lay drowned and moldering in the old village. Sahrnia? It had to be despair that brought on the icy climate. What were the red templars doing? This demon called Imshael? All the way up to the Keep, Alaryn pondered.
Red Templar patrols were out in full force. They recognised her all too easily. Was it the helm? Could they perceive the power of the Mark on her hand? Ordinary folks usually didn't know who she was unless she spoke to them. Ten out of ten, they just knew. Sometimes she examined herself in the mirror back at Skyhold, trying to see what they see and failed.
The patrols were taken care of easily. Not so for the force garrisoned at the Keep. Greater in numbers. They even had slaved giants with them. Unlike those at the Emerald Graves, these were slow and clumsy. Alaryn guessed the frost had affected them. That and whatever else that was holding them enthralled.
When they finally met Imshael, he wasn't what Alaryn was expecting. Demons could possess and usually hold no true human forms if they were pulled into the real world. Imshael looked like a man. She glanced at Cole and back at Imshael. Two demons of purpose. What did Imshael intend in the real world? Varric had the most sour expression on his face as they listened to Imshael dangle temptations her way. The rest looked impatient; why talked to the demon at all?
Imshael's response was exasperation and outrage when she called him demon. Spirit, he insisted. It didn't matter. Spirit, demon. He was going down and went down, taunting them all the while.
There was no one except a dying red templar at the top of the tower. After talking to him, Alaryn thought Imshael was likely the source of the ice. The wretchedness and despair he wrought in the templars could have brought on the sudden freeze. He must have been quite a powerful demon to have spread his influence so wide.
They went back to Sahrnia. Alaryn sent most of the Inquisition troops to take control of Suledin Keep though she had mistress Poulain detained first. The woman went quietly. The surviving villagers made no protest though they looked lost. They would need someone to take charge of them and she had an idea who it was going to be.
Michel de Chevin was at his post the entrance of the village. What she did not expect was a pack of wolves confronting him. Drawing her sword, she rushed to his aid. Before she could reach him, the wolves turned as one to look at her. Their growls became rumbling. She stared in astonishment as they vanished, eyes gleaming green and eerily at her. Were they wolves or something else?

Speaking of Imshael, I never saw this before since I normally do the fight right away. But Bruenor was in stealth upon arrival so I explored the courtyard a bit. There's a barrier blocking the way up the stairs.

I didn't try, actually, but I don't think it was interactable. Kind of like the barrier in CotJ. Something to try next time though.

From the Diary of Kara Trevelyan: Just when I think the Hakkonites were going to be a bunch of pushovers they really, really, showed up to play today. And did a lot of damage to us. And the Fade Rifts continue to be problematic. But we tracked them down to an old Tevinter fortess with an ice wall. Thing was, we then had to figure out how to breach its defenses...and apparently the Tevinter's left giant trail markers in the way which some will say will lead to breaching those defenses. In non game related news I got a Dragon Age Inquisition keychain for Chrstimas.

The journey of Warden Commander Drako Amell, The Hero of Ferelden: (DA:O, DA:A, and Witch hunt) The Chronicles of Tyros Hawke, Champion of Kirkwall: The Path of Inquisitor Mason Trevelyan, Herald of Andraste: The Journey continues, It only took us a few days to cross the Frostbacks and reach Val Royeaux. The Mothers were trying to rally the people against the Inquisition. I do what I can to counter their ramblings, but the people seem to be clinging to the Mothers and their promises of Templar protection. Things became much easier when the Lord Seeker, leader of the remaining Templars, had a revered mother sucker punched. He beat his chest plate, snarled a few times, and then ordered the Templars to abandon the City. The clerics weren't quite so brave after that. I speak with some of the people around the market to gain as much favor as I could without looking as desperate as we actually are. While we were wandering, an arrow shot to the ground. I saw no archers though. A note was tied to the arrow, so it wasn't an attack. Following a few bread crumbs, we learn of plot against the Inquisition. Whoever the archer was, they gave us a time, place, and a key to reach this secret meeting. With our business in the city finished, we begin to leave and check out this conspiracy. We are stopped by a messenger with an invitation, for me specifically, to a noble woman's dinner party. The estate was not far and I was getting hungry. The last interruption in our departure was the Grand Enchanter herself. She claims to have come to see the "Herald of Andraste" with her own eyes and offered the aid of the rebel mages in Redcliff to help seal the Breach. I wasn't sure what to make of her. Something was... off... We take our leave before anyone else pops up. ...First we drop in on the conspirators. A meeting in the dark of night. Very dramatic. They were not a true threat, but rather an annoyance that shouldn't be ignored. After we drop them, the mystery archer makes an appearance. A spirited little elf named Sera. She acts like an idiot, but I can see a cunning deviousness within her. She is far smarter than she wants anyone to know. She claims to have a network of... well, she calls them "friends". The Friends of Red Jenny are known far and wide as a shadow organization of spies, assassins, and smugglers. What Sera described is just a bunch of servants, stable hands, kitchen staff, and the like who over hear things and try to get back at their masters for being "right tits". We have Leliana for the big things, but the small things would go under her notice. Like this little plot tonight. Sera's "friends" could prove useful. She's a damn good shot too with that bow of hers. So when she asked to join the Inquisition, I welcomed her aboard... ...With that done, I head on to the dinner party. A fancy estate. Filled top to bottom with every level of nobility one could stomach at one time. After a brief fuss with one of the more annoying nobles, my benefactor shows herself. Lady Vivinne, a former First Enchanter and current Enchanter to the Orliasian court. I've heard of her before. Even in Ostwick, her talents as a Knight Enchanter are legendary. My mentor, Senior Enchanter Lydia, spoke of her often. Vivinne may look like another docile know nothing court flunky, but get her mad and you will find your guts hanging from the rafters. I wasn't sure how quickly to accept her request to join the Inquisition. I played things out for a minute just to see exactly what her motives were. It doesn't take much imagination to piece together her goal. She's doing what she's always done. She's spotted an opening to position herself in a place of power. Not sure what she intends to do with that power, but I know what I intend to do with her. Learn the arts of the Knight Enchanter from her and then throw her at demons and Dragons... She can take it. I'm... almost... pretty sure... ...With that mess done, we return to Haven. The place is getting more tightly packed by the day. I make my way to the Chantry and brief the others on what happened in Val Royeaux. It's still a toss up for who to approach for aid in closing the Breach. The Lord Seeker is power mad and the Grand Enchanter is leading only one faction of the Rebels. At this point, we didn't have the influence to approach the Templars without fear of beheading. We did not have the clout to make any assurances to the Mages to gain their support. We'll have to work towards stretching the Inquisition's reach before we can seek an alliance with either group.

Or is he concerned about the binding of demons/spirits altering their purpose as happened with his friend on the Exalted Plain? Regardless, I look forward to the next game. 1. Falessan is absolutely not a Dalish elf. He would have had to have been one of the elves enslaved by Tevinter and then freed by Andraste, followed by living in the Dales, to be Dalish. He is the same as the Sentinel, Abelas, but perhaps a bit older. I'm pretty sure he worked with Solas against the Evanuris. Making him an Arlathan Elf, or an ancient elf. he did die for his betrayal which stemmed from seeing the people of Thedas like real people. I don't think he hated the Dalish. I always thought that Solas And Falessan derision of the Dalish is half bitterness that their people have fallen so far. But rather than compassion, they look at them like...not vermin. Like a sick animal that needs to be put out of it's misery. 2. Briala was a great heroic elvish character that missed her limelight because the Inquisitor needed more I guess. 3. A. Correct. B. It was what the orb was intended for, although not it's only purpose. The Breach is not the method in which the Veil comes down that Solas wants. I think Solas is going for more of a dissolving method. If it was nothing but tears in the veil, all the regular spirits will get twisted crossing through. He doesn't want spirits to be harmed. And also, Cory is totally not going to hand the Orb over. Cory was supposed to go boom with the orb, but Solas didn't know Cory had body jumping powers. Why was Cory supposed to go boom? Magical Static Charge Build up would cause a massive explosion, so it wasn't safe for Solas to touch it first. C. That is what is suspected. On top of that, whatever Fade area he was in didn't seem to show what was happening to the world why he was asleep? or maybe it did, but he couldn't wake up to stop it? D. Players are now suspicious of the artifacts, but I lean towards they actually doing what he stated. He doesn't want the tears, he wants a controlled demolition of the veil. Keeping it stronger against the tears in the meantime. 4. I don't think it looks like the Cory future at all. cory didn't even want that future. I don't think a veil less world is preferable at all to those who prefer the now. The Qun want to wipe out all magic, not bring it back full force. And anyone who benefits from the enslavement and second teir citizenship of elves would not want the elves to have their magic again either. I don't think the Chantry is for it either; if the mages outnumber the non mages, then ruling by fear of magic isn't going to work out for them. and regarding the Grey Wardens. There isn't really enough information, but total fan speculation has proferred the following theory. That the Old Gods are holding back an uncontrollable Blight. IF there are no more Old Gods, there will be nothing to keep the Darkspawn's interest below and they will come out to the surface in droves. The book, The Calling, kind of implies this as well. The Architect wanted to kill all the Archdemons so the Blight could infect everything. Then there "would be no war," for everyone would be the same. However, in Awakening we find out that inteliigent Darkspawn are just as likely to fight as any set of human factions. Doesn't mean the core plan wouldn't have worked. Kill all the ADs, and what you got is Darkspawn with no othe rpurpose but to wander and cause a ruckus. The theory further ties the Blight to Andruil, Titans, and the Big Elven War that may have started the path of the Evanuris into God Hood in the first place. But that part of the theory is not as clear to me, as I'm terrible at Codex reading. But I do believe there is a very thorough thread about it on the older pages of this forum.

Finally decided to continue Kitty's adventure as Inquisitor. Yesterday she told Bull "No." I like how she's grinning here, like "Seriously, we got a Seeker, a ghost boy, a cool dwarf with a cross bow, a Red Jenny, a Warden and a non-dalish-non-city-elf mage. We don't need mercenaries." Okay, this made me laugh. Watched Vinsomer kill the giant. Took longer then expected.

My husband has spent 3 hours making and selling potions so that his Aeducan can return to the Deep Roads richer than his traitor brother, Bhelen. He almost has the 10,000 gold to reach that goal.

Sounds like he's going to get even with little bro in style! I don't do anything like that in Origins, but I do spend considerable time in DAI crafting armor and weapons and farming schematics and fade-touched materials.

I made sure Alistair wore Cailan's armor to both remind people of Loghain's treachery, as well as make their similar appearance stands out. Last PT, I also ran into a glitch with Bella that earned me some good coin- enough to buy end game stuff for my mage. I don't spend that much time crafting. I make sure the team I'm heading out with match and have good weapons, and considering how bugged the banter is for me, sticking with the same team the whole game has been my MO in this play and last play. Already done with Adamant, and Varric and Cass are still talking about how he used to be a prisoner etc.

Don't remember the last time any of my Wardens made it to Orzammar with less than 100K gold. It's usually my last stop in prep for the Arch demon.

From the Diary of Kara Trevelyan: So the Hakkonites might be a bit of a pushover but their leadre certainly wasn't. he was a tough nut to crack and honestly not sure who struck the killing blow. But we did survive in the end. Hakkon was somehow far, far, easier, he went down in about five minutes.
But in the shocker of shockers, we actually ran into the Inquisitor Ameridan. He was still alive. A becon to the past. And he lost...everything. And we are much greater for the lost. The world he left behind sounds a lot better then the world we live in now. And the world I am trying to build. Mages as free as everyone else. Maybe even commoners were a lot better off. But people, all people, working together. I very much want to live in that world and if it was possible once, it is possible again. So that was...tough. Wiped out twice in the Gurd boss battle. And I decided it is my least favorite of it. But...well it was just super frustrating for me, but prbably being a bit of an idiot having trouble healing up any of my companions. And still he died. I was trying to get someone healed and stealth but he still grabbed onto Kara and threatened to pull her back.... and he died. My guess is Sera might have gotten him but hey...it worked. Might have been a bit on the overkill for Hakkon. Thousand Cuts (tier 3) Mark of the Rift and Haste. "You fight well Inquisitor" "I JUST KILLED YOU"

My little dwarf Lia finally reached Skyhold, after some mod problems, that caused the game to crash (if I have to listen to 'The Dawn will come' one more time, I riot). Out of the blue, Lia started to flirt with Josephine, never saw that coming ... anotehr case of characters doing what they want, I guess In Kirkwall, Hawke just helped Fenris getting rid of Danarius and made up with him afterwards, hunted apostates after Meredith threatened to force her into the Circle, if she refuses and is now enjoying Wyvvern hunting with a slightly mad elf called Tallis

Hey, good folks. I did the Elves vs Werewolves, but unfortunately, despite repeating the ritual with the Arcane Warrior Gem 3 times, and the game telling me I have unlocked the Specialization Arcane Warrior, it is not reflected on my character's sheet. It did not come up on the level up either, so I guess, either the game is bugged, or the interface really, really sucks. I guess, one chance at specialization is blown. Other than that, I went to Denerim, wasted 15g on Alistairs quest and went on doing really boring sidequests with no sight of the Urn Guy, which is why I went to Denerim in the first place. (Sigh) The rogues are the most useless class in the whole game. Two points into Deft Hands, and Zevran can't either open locks or disarm traps. It's like a running joke. AND instead of being part of the skills, the ability competes with his combat spells. What a joke... Seriously, this game is really not very well made in terms of EoU.

It's a specialization unlocking-- doesn't give it to you. When you level up, there is seperate specialization points outside of the attribute points. I usually save my specialization points for when I get the spec unlocked later, as they only come unlocked narratively (tied to the story). So, at the beginning, there is 4 options of specialization for each player, but 2-3 of them have little locks on them. So, interacting with that gem only gets rid of the lock symbol. Now, use you specialization points to actually open a new tree. Similarly to arcane warrior, I think shapeshifter is tied to Morrigan befriending you and teaching you. And Blood Magic is tied to the Desire Demon in the Fade. I think you only get a total of 2-4 in the whole game. Are you already spec'd up ?

If you took a specialization at level 7, you won't be able to take Arcane Warrior until level 14. If you are at level 7 or above and have not taken a specialization, there should be a 1 in the box with the red arrow. If there is, you just click on Arcane Warrior. Edit: Phoray pretty much had it covered, but it took me a while to level up and get the screenshot so I hadn't seen her post. I'll add, on unlocking a specialization, you only have to do it once and you will start all future games with it unlocked. So if for example you wanted to unlock Reaver, you can defile the Urn of sacred ashes and kill Leliana to unlock it, and then go back to an earlier save, because no-one would really want to kill Leliana, and the specialization will still be unlocked. They are linked to your player profile and not the saved game.

I was doing some mental theorycrafting. I love talking with you guys about the game, but I really can't do another DA:I session yet. I don't want to get burned out. However, I did have some thoughts:
With Briala, I'm not sure if it was so much the Inquistor stealing her limelight. See, there is this illusion with WHWM that you don't need The Masked Empire to understand what was going on. So they made Briala less of an outright if rebellious hero to make the final choice seem more equal. I was very unhappy with that.
One of my main criticisms of the DA:I story was that the story of her elven rebellion was mostly resolved off-screen. The alienage purge is barely touched upon and makes Celene seem more sympathic as a result. Then there is the reason why Felassan was killed to begin with. Mainly that he refused to give the eluvian key to one Grumpy Wolf. They completely failed to explain how Solas got control of the eluvians. The only thing I can figure is that he gained the ability to do so when Flemythal gave up (most) of her power and her (current) life.
After seeing Solas give that manipulative look to my friendly IQ at the end of Trespasser, I will never trust those artifacts. I can't take Solas at face value. I do think they help strengthen the Veil. Much like you have to put in points of collapse inside of a gutted building before you blow it. Also, you got to set the explosives just right. Otherwise, you cause a lot more destruction than just the building.
I guess Solas would want a controlled implosion of the Veil versus Cory's destructive explosion. I think the player set the charges. Solas is almost ready to blow up that old building as safely as possible. Metaphorically speaking, of course.

But the game is going to say that you did that quest just like it'll say you closed all the rifts when you don't even have to. So, it's not like we're going to have a choice in the matter- if it even comes up at all. It's such a minor companion quest.

AND instead of being part of the skills, the ability competes with his combat spells. What a joke... Seriously, this game is really not very well made in terms of EoU. Are you looking for Genetivi? There is a tavern at the edge of the market place, next to the guy who keeps calling "Fine dwarven crafts, direct from Orzammar!". In the house in front of that tavern is the guy who opens up the next step in the urn hunt. (Either go where he tells you and come back, or check the backroom, look at everything and it should open a new area on the world map). Zevran is bad at lockpicking. Both because he starts with no points in Deft hands and because his cunning starts low. Haven't played Origin recently, so my memory might be wrong, but I think this is the system for lockpicking: There is a score for locks. I think it goes 10-20-30-40-50-60 and the score is the points in cunning you need to open the locks. Without Deft hands you start with a 40 point penalty to lockpicking and with each point in Deft hands, you remove 10 points of that penalty. I think Zevran starts with around 15 in cunning. You gave him two points in deft hands, so if you did not adjust his cunning, he's got around -5 skill in lockpicking. So he's not opening anything at the start. + The locks in the Brecillian ruins are around level 30-40, so Zevran is not getting that booty without some serious addition to his cunning stats.
Memory was off. Lack of Deft Hand doesn't put a penalty on lockpicking but having it adds 10 points to the lockpicking score per point. The system seems to be that you need Cunning = xp you get for opening the chest + 10. I think the highest xp for a chest is 60, so 70 Cunning or 30 Cunning + 4 points in Deft Hands to open every chest. (I think I'm being correct here. But I could be completely off) The latter points still stand: Lelianna is the better lockpicker, since she gets two points in deft hands at the start, starts with higher cunning (around 20) and her bonus stat goes to cunning. Zevran is more of a stabber. High dex for hitting, decent strength for armor equipping and free points in dual wielding. So he is more for utilizing the rogues high critical chance. And yes, there have been quite a few comics pointing fun at Zevran's lack of skill when it comes to locks. So it's is a bit of a running joke.

So, it's not like we're going to have a choice in the matter- if it even comes up at all. It's such a minor companion quest. It's that look Solas gives you during "The Dawn Will Come" sequence. He gets a very similar one when he finishes leading you to Skyhold. He gives you that look a few other times. If you tell him that you're going to try to talk him out of his plans at the end of Trespasser, he has that look again for a second before he smiles normally. I didn't notice it with my romanced elf, but I did on my human warrior. Oh, I have no doubt that the artifacts will be glossed over. Or only referenced in codex. Still, I think it will have an impact on Solas' plans beyond what he claims. The writers could easily say that he did it on his own at some point after the end of the main game. <shrug>
