Hey, good folks. I did the Elves vs Werewolves, but unfortunately, despite repeating the ritual with the Arcane Warrior Gem 3 times, and the game telling me I have unlocked the Specialization Arcane Warrior, it is not reflected on my character's sheet. It did not come up on the level up either, so I guess, either the game is bugged, or the interface really, really sucks. I guess, one chance at specialization is blown. It's a specialization unlocking-- doesn't give it to you. When you level up, there is seperate specialization points outside of the attribute points. I usually save my specialization points for when I get the spec unlocked later, as they only come unlocked narratively (tied to the story). So, at the beginning, there is 4 options of specialization for each player, but 2-3 of them have little locks on them. So, interacting with that gem only gets rid of the lock symbol. Now, use you specialization points to actually open a new tree. Similarly to arcane warrior, I think shapeshifter is tied to Morrigan befriending you and teaching you. And Blood Magic is tied to the Desire Demon in the Fade. I think you only get a total of 2-4 in the whole game. Are you already spec'd up ? Thank you, I figured it out after purchasing the Spirit Healer. It is an extra step to make it "active" for your character. I pressed the Level Up button on the Character screen and it allowed me to pick Arcane Warrior, so it got activated on both her Character Screen and the Spell Book. So, yay, all set for the Specializations, just need 2 levels to unlock the Healer. Also, yep, I was increasing Zevran's cunning as I was increasing his skill. All two level ups that I got so far.... He has so many talents andthey are so scattered, but none that I actually want. Like auto backstub on a stunned target or lock-picking...

Finally decided to continue Kitty's adventure as Inquisitor. Yesterday she told Bull "No." I like how she's grinning here, like "Seriously, we got a Seeker, a ghost boy, a cool dwarf with a cross bow, a Red Jenny, a Warden and a non-dalish-non-city-elf mage. We don't need mercenaries." Okay, this made me laugh. Watched Vinsomer kill the giant. Took longer then expected. It's a pity I could only hear the audio of your clip; I got the black screen which is a problem I've only had since upgrading to Windows 10. It always annoyed me how he would keep saying "we're expensive, but we're worth it!" and then never tell you how much he's charging, only that Josephine would take care of it. It sounds like he at least keeps it civil. By contrast, Sera gets pissed if you turn her down. I can only imagine how nasty it gets if a Tal Vashoth PC turns him down.

Don't remember the last time any of my Wardens made it to Orzammar with less than 100K gold. It's usually my last stop in prep for the Arch demon. I'm trying to figure out what you would even use that much gold for in DAO. My last Warden (who didn't do the US) ended up with a few K gold but I just never felt the need to spend it on anything.
Other than that, I went to Denerim, wasted 15g on Alistairs quest and went on doing really boring sidequests with no sight of the Urn Guy, which is why I went to Denerim in the first place. (Sigh) The rogues are the most useless class in the whole game. Two points into Deft Hands, and Zevran can't either open locks or disarm traps. It's like a running joke. AND instead of being part of the skills, the ability competes with his combat spells. What a joke... Seriously, this game is really not very well made in terms of EoU.
The best rogue in DAO is the one you create in the CC. Glad you got the specializations figured out. If you import your Warden into DAA, you will get a third spec as well - 2 new options were added for each class in the expansion.
I was doing some mental theorycrafting. I love talking with you guys about the game, but I really can't do another DA:I session yet. I don't want to get burned out. However, I did have some thoughts: With Briala, I'm not sure if it was so much the Inquistor stealing her limelight. See, there is this illusion with WHWM that you don't need The Masked Empire to understand what was going on. So they made Briala less of an outright if rebellious hero to make the final choice seem more equal. I was very unhappy with that. One of my main criticisms of the DA:I story was that the story of her elven rebellion was mostly resolved off-screen. The alienage purge is barely touched upon and makes Celene seem more sympathic as a result. Then there is the reason why Felassan was killed to begin with. Mainly that he refused to give the eluvian key to one Grumpy Wolf. They completely failed to explain how Solas got control of the eluvians. The only thing I can figure is that he gained the ability to do so when Flemythal gave up (most) of her power and her (current) life. After seeing Solas give that manipulative look to my friendly IQ at the end of Trespasser, I will never trust those artifacts. I can't take Solas at face value. I do think they help strengthen the Veil. Much like you have to put in points of collapse inside of a gutted building before you blow it. Also, you got to set the explosives just right. Otherwise, you cause a lot more destruction than just the building. I guess Solas would want a controlled implosion of the Veil versus Cory's destructive explosion. I think the player set the charges. Solas is almost ready to blow up that old building as safely as possible. Metaphorically speaking, of course.
Other than Leliana's option for Michel, Briala being connected to the eluvians isn't even mentioned, which is ridiculous, until Solas does it in Trespasser. Yes, Briala offers you "spies" but the Inquisitor has no reason to think "spy network" = eluvian access. At that point in time, you don't even know what they are yet. There is a cryptic note from Gaspard to Celene which references what Briala controls but, again, the Inquisitor isn't going to know what the reference actually is. They really dropped the ball (heh, pun not intended) on that whole quest.
The other thing that bothers me is how Briala's actions in prolonging the war are basically glossed over. She's pissed at Celene for "playing the game" to her (Briala's) detriment, but she's not above doing the exact same thing herself to screw everyone else, including the very people she's supposedly fighting for. Ugh, I hate her.

By the time I make my run to Orzammar, I've already gotten all the gear and potions and items I "need" to complete my warden and companions. The gold just piles up and I dump it into Redcliff forces for the final battle or goto the dalish and buy tons of herbs. Gets me those last couple of lvls to max out my warden before battling the AD and moving on to DA:A and witch hunt.

No, it's not you two, it's me being stupid and uploading a black video. This is what you get, if you don't check your recordings before uploading. I had started recording when I still was in the black loading screen, so I assumed that was what I saw in the thumbnail.

Unfortunately, for those of us who did read TME and liked it, WEWH leaves us feeling shortchanged. (Was Felassan even mentioned in a codex?) Regarding Briala... she breaks it off with Celene at the end of TME after finding out Celene was behind the massacre that led to the deaths of her parents. Understandable...but what does she plan on doing with her rebellion? (I guess it would be useful to know what is the population of elves versus humans in Orlais.) The supposed best solution is getting Celene and Briala back together. (The "lesbian love connection" option as I call it! ) But that was something Briala could've had at the end of TME, so what was the point of it all?

deadlydwarfWhen it comes to Briala, I think she needed time. She was understandably very angry at the Empress for choosing politics over her. Plus, they were both convinced that neither of them still loved the other. I agree with your best outcome. It looks like Solas swept in and usurped her role as leader of the elven rebellion. What she was planning? Likely a full-scale revolt against any noble and/or royal house in Orlais, using the eluvian network to do it. I'd figure there is a lot more elves than nobles in power. I don't know about the human vs elven population numbers, but I'm betting there isn't that many nobles with any real power in Orlais.

She's jealous because Celene didn't do the same for her. It just makes her seem ridiculously petty. Yeah, I agree - what was the point of it all if they can end up back together anyway? Nothing.
Also, for the record, I hate Celene and Gaspard too.

Solas' manipulative look: Hmmm. I guess I would call that a scheming look. So, I was reading a fanfiction by gervaise21 that I can't finish right now because it makes me feel like I'm a terrible writer... but anyway, very early on, the idea of "Fen'Harels' lies needed to be explained at the Arlathvhen came up. And for like the first time ever, I considered the idea that every single thing Solas tells the Quiz at the end of Trespasser is a lie meant to throw them off the trail. Or maybe even to make him look good so the Quiz will be more sympathetic. I dunno.

I don't think it's getting Briala back with Celene. I think it's getting Celene back with Briala, and Briala is totally prepared to play her. They'll end up playing each other. Nevertheless, they all kinda suck, and I prefer the lesbian connection option only because it's likely to be the most stable option. Celene is not inclined towards expanding the empire. She's only sympathetic towards the elves with an elven lover reminder. And Briala is better at the game than she is, can go places she can't, and so it the perfect other side to the coin to make sure assasination attempts don't succeed. I'm just annoyed that it comes at the expense of killing Gaspard. Since you two have read TME, did you get a feeling at the end that Gaspard was more sympathetic towards the elves after his experience with Briala and Michel? He likened Michel's half breed status to Ser Aveline that won a place for women in the ranks. I found that interesting on my second play through.

MAnipulative look? But the game is going to say that you did that quest just like it'll say you closed all the rifts when you don't even have to. So, it's not like we're going to have a choice in the matter- if it even comes up at all. It's such a minor companion quest. It's that look Solas gives you during "The Dawn Will Come" sequence. He gets a very similar one when he finishes leading you to Skyhold. He gives you that look a few other times. If you tell him that you're going to try to talk him out of his plans at the end of Trespasser, he has that look again for a second before he smiles normally. I didn't notice it with my romanced elf, but I did on my human warrior. Oh, I have no doubt that the artifacts will be glossed over. Or only referenced in codex. Still, I think it will have an impact on Solas' plans beyond what he claims. The writers could easily say that he did it on his own at some point after the end of the main game. <shrug> I like your theory, but there is one thing, that bothers me a bit, regarding the theory: If you set up the artifacts in the Hinterlands, there is one near the bandit camp in the east, where you meet a Dalish mage, who wants to activate the artifacts too, to strengthen the Veil, as she explained. That made me think, that the artifacts are maybe really strengthen the Veil and Solas wanted to activate them to rain on Corys parade. But I would love to see it adressed in the next game

fylimar I am not inclined to trust Mihris at all. She makes Solas look as open and honest as Merrill. Spoilers for The Masked Empirer: If you remember Imshael, Mirhris is the reason why he was summoned. She was after power and intentionally summoned him. She agreed to his price, which was the wholesale slaughter of her entire clan. She's very power hungry and an awful person. I kept hoping she would die in the book, but that didn't happen. She's by far one of the more scummy people in the series. So I'm not going to take her at complete face value. I do think that the artifacts are strengthening the Veil temporarily. But I stand by my theory that the artifacts are still a part of Solas' long term plans in destroying the Veil. We'll see.

I finished up most of the maps. There's only Arbor Wilds, Deep Descent and Jaws of Hakkon left. Doing DD now. The whirlwind skill did it again. Whirled the second ogre flying and he disappeared completely. I can't even find his body. The first giant at Empress du Lion still killed himself by the stairs, btw. He jumped and then...died before I could even go into full whirl. * I wasn't so kind to the wardens this time round; they could have come out and say they have a problem that's going to affect Thedas greatly instead of trying to secretly find a solution by themselves. Blackwall wasn't happy; the inquisitor was critical of the actions of Clarel and the wardens. The wardens were banished though Blackwall was allowed to stay. I also threw the warden, who gave herself up for judgement, back to the order. Let her find her own redemption. I'd usually get Blackwall's personal quest by this time but I guess he's too butt hurt. I think he'll leave after Cory die.

Solas' manipulative look: I love that look! I remember when you finally found the site and you already had that as your signature. It makes me chuckle every time. I love that look as well. I remember seeing that the first time I played and going, "Wait. What was that look for? Okay, Solas isn't as simple as he appears. What's he planning?" Me at the end of the main game: " Holy shit. He's who?? That orb was his? Wait, did Flemeth just.." Me at the end of Trespasser for the first time: "Wait, that's what he was planning?!? Oh, ouch. My poor elf. Her poor heart." <sees that calculating look on the second Trespasser run that was given to my friendly human IQ> Me: "Damn it, Solas."

phorayI don't have a secret way of doing this. I pack my inventory full during a mission and unload it at the first merchant I come across. After reviving Eamon, I head out to pick up Shale, then do Soldiers peak. Combine that with the side quests, you should have more than enough gold to get your desired gear (which some of the best gear is just found and not bought) and assuming you keep filling up your pack, the gold keeps flowing. If you are really desperate, there is always the buy/sell glitch. Can't remember how that was done or if you can even do it anymore. It's game breaking IMO though.

I am surprised to find out that I really like the Dwarven section of the game. Have not finished it yet, but they did a better job at creating the Dwarves imo than the Elves. Dagna's subplot was particularly sweet Starting to think that if I live to finish the game (it is really, really long, I am almost 30 hours in now, and it doesn't feel like there is an end in sight), I want to play the intros for each of the race. Overall, I'd say this is very much a refurbished Baldur's Gate. And, yeah, getting a bunch of really funny banters with Wynne in the party.

As far as the DA:O origins go, the Dwarven Noble origin is my favorite. The overall story as a whole though, the mage origin just fits better. Then again I just like Mages as a class better than Warriors and Rogues as they are more difficult to master. If you manage to get it right though, you can turn your mage character into a demi-god.

Then again I just like Mages as a class better than Warriors and Rogues as they are more difficult to master. If you manage to get it right though, you can turn your mage character into a demi-god. Well, unfortunately it doesn't have the re-set your skills button(Chain Lightening *cough*) so ain't going be a demi-god in my case, plus the amount of levels you get the first time round is too few to allow for a few mistakes in a build (and, again, there is no do-over button like in MET) ... Overall though, I agree, the story fits a Mage very well, plus the Mage is versatile in that it is more like a Jedi, than a pure Magic User in the DnD, blending the priestly spells with the DPS ones. I do enjoy playing a mage, and her script is becoming a bit better as well as I change it around so I can go baby-sit Zevran and explain to him where he should stand to get a backstab in ('cause, obviously, as the assassin he has no idea...) without her doing pointless spell waste.

I'm truly hyped about what will happen to Solas in next DA, or what he will do in general. They butchered illusive man in ME3, which was in a similar position as Solas is right now, but I'm hoping they have learned from it.

I killed Celene (with my black elven Inquisitor) and it felt good because of what she did to the elves was unforgivable, and despite Briala's stupidity and house slave mentality I let her take over as a power behind the throne.
