Oh, yes, smart guy. The best part of the curse, when his people suffered already, isn't? To kill the werewolves doesn't stop the curse, it will spread – and because of the Werewolves live in the forest, the elves will be the victim of the curse... But the blind vengeance worth every elven life, isn't? If they left them alone they would never been cursed in the first place. Why didn't just kill them? Still idiot and blind thing. How many elves' death he caused? Now, do you think, it would be the best idea if their relative would curse him with some infectious thing, what would murder slowly even more elves? And the humans not even knew about who and why caused this curse, and what exactly is this...

But then again, I always saw the Tower as the Orlesian court but with less masks, same number of skirts and a lot more magic. So that there would be a lot of backstabbing and manipulating going on. He was the only who was able to save them, no one and nothing else. And he did nothing, not even said a word. Just let to die his people one after another in pain. Again: he didn't tell to his clan, that the curse's source is himself. According to you, the best solution is just to kill the werewolves, we meet. But in this case, the curse remains, and no one able to stop, if come up again, and start to infect. Those werewolves aren't those people, who killed Zathrian's child. Zathrian only keeps his secret because his revengefulness still blinds him, and knows, that if he eliminates the curse, he will die with the spirit. Revenge and cowardice. Again: his first reaction was absolutely understandable. But later he only jeopardized everyone in that wild. Without any reason but his revenge and cowardice. The best solution if the Warden stops this curse. For everyone, not only for that werewolves. Not mentioned, that Zathrian's hundreds of years old... that curse keeps him alive. Zathrian's curse turned against his people. And they didn't even know, why they suffer. The elves have right to fight – but to die in a blind curse just a stupid fate. We can sympathize with Zathrian, but to kill the werewolves doesn't solve the problem.

So today I finally got back to the spot where I left of before restarting (and restarting a few times more) today Minerva: - met with various people at Ostagar, among whom...Daveth, Jory, Teyrn Loghain, some Ash warriors, Wynne and Alistair - heard the legend of Luthias the Dwarfson - helped a prisoner receive his last meal (Minerva bought it from the guard), and he gave her the key to some chest (more on that later)
- promised to help the Kennelmaster find some sort of flower to help a sick mabari hound (currently thinking on a name for it) Minerva's opinion on some of the people Daveth: he seems fun, if a bit of a lech...I swear he keeps staring at my hind quarters Jory: he's an idiot...also apparently I scare him, what's so scary about me anyway? Just 'cause I'm a mage? heesh...
Teyrn Loghain: *inner fangirling* he's so awesome! I mean, I've read the stories, studied some of his strategies but to actually meet him in person Wynne: I swear I've seen her in the Circle a few times, but I don't recall ever interacting with her Alistair: *laughs* he seems fun, but he's not very focused...for a former templar to not notice I'm a mage, huh...I'm deducting points for now - Duncan gave them a few quests, find some darkspawn blood and some old Warden documents Minerva: so into the Wilds we go ^^ In the wilds she: - fought some wolves - helped a scout get back to Ostagar (after Alistair patched him up a bit)
- found a dead chantry priest and his son, and solved their quests. (Minerva is bringing the lockbox back to the man's wife in Redcliffe) - found the flower for the sick hounds - killed several darkspawn (drained them of their blood) - killed a demon
- met Morrigan and Flemeth (Alistair: swooping is bad (love that line) Minerva: they seem powerful, especially the old lady
Daveth: they're witches Jory: and I'm the coward? I can hear you quiver over here Minerva: you're still a coward Jory...just saying Alistair: shouldn't we get back to Ostagar? Minerva: pff...fine, Morrigan can you get us back? Morrigan: if I must Flemeth: tata, come visit again Minerva: she seems nice...crazy...but nice
back at Ostagar: - delivered the flower to the kennel master - delivered the blood and treaties to Duncan - went through the Joining Minerva: some people...died horribly Duncan: alrighty, get your bearings and I'll see you at the meeting with King Cailan Minerva: buh...fine Alistair: aww, I never get invited to those things Minerva: you can go in my stead if you want...I'd rather skip it Alistair: mm...nah, you can go...I'll probably have loads of meetings like those in the future (oh Alistair, if only you knew )

also I think I finally figured out something (after years of playing)...when you build up a friendship with Morrigan she mentions having followed the Warden and their party in the Korcari Wilds whilst in animal form now that I've replayed this part...I think I found the animal...a squirrel when you first enter the area there's a squirrel, and that same squirrel pops up several times while you're in that area and while I doubt Morrigan would pick a squirrel (I suspect she'd rather go with a bird or something), it does make sense (at least imo)

Brann devoted this week to help more of his friends: Varric found the source of the Haunted mansion and kept the red lyrium shard with him; Anders collected some ingredients that he needed for "something" that would help the mages; Isabela blackmailed Castillon and he promised to stop hunting her and gave her his ship; Merrill found and defeated the Pride Demon; Sebastian had a meeting with Divine Justinia`s agent and Aveline confronted Jeven. Hawke also discovered that uncle Gamlen have a daughter. Making plans for the future with Isabela. Meeting some heroes of the 5th Blight: Meeting cousin Charade.

Came home to find both Aveline and Isabela waiting for me. Decided it was too late to go to the compound today, so told them I'll help Isabela tonight, then go with Aveline in the morning But seriously, now I really want to see Merrill telling the Arishok he should smile more then try to tell him a knock-knock joke... I love how the Arishok shuts Aveline up with just the "shush" finger Well, our little chat with the Arishok went well..... or not..... I could hear my Warden Tabris laughing all the way from Antiva Love him or hate him, he was a cool character Okay, am I the only one wondering where the Viscount's head disappeared to? Did one of the companions pick it up (can't imagine any of the nobles touching it), I could see Aveline maybe doing that? Did Hawke or the Arishok casually kick it out of the way when they started to duel? Fenris dear, we really need to work on our communication skills... Really wishing right about now that I had put on actual armor before going to see the Arishok this morning... Somebody's jealous..... somehow I don't think this is how the saving of the city originally played out in Meredith's mind... And Hawke promptly collapses from massive blood-loss due to being made a human shish-kabob. Still love the sisterly love/hate relationship between these two...

(Sorry for taking so long to update this; I have had limited time in front of the computer lately and have been using it to play instead of to write about playing. Now that I should be able to do both again, though, let's get back to Awakening ...) Rheve does not have a lot of nostalgia for his youth among the Dalish, but it's always nice to take a walk in the great outdoors. Or it would be if the place wasn't full of bandits and darkspawn and sylvans and an angry elf from some other clan who wouldn't listen to him at all. So it turned out that the problem in the Wending Woods wasn't darkspawn! Or, it was, but not in the way everybody thought. Rheve had instant sympathy for Velanna, even before he found out how much her story resembled his own. Hell, he'd killed a few shems in his time, although never in such an organised way. Impressive, really, even if her enthusiasm was misplaced. So when he got the chance to take her along, he jumped at it.
Together, they ventured into the Silverite Mines to look for Seranni and/or some answers about the weird darkspawn ... and found some poison gas instead. Rheve was surprised to wake up after that one, and upon meeting Keenan discovered that most of the Wardens hadn't been as lucky as he was. Needless to say, he was more pissed off with the darkspawn than ever before, especially since as an Orlesian commander he'd known some of those people personally.
He and Oghren, Velanna and Nathaniel fought their way out of the mines together, retrieving their equipment along the way (no Silverite Mine bug for me this time, hurrah!) until they got to that dragon fight. I find most of the combat in Awakening very easy, especially when playing as a mage, but man that fight is tough on Nightmare if you only have one melee character. I had to reload three or four times before I finally got it, and that involved a lot of Rheve running around the room while the Benny Hill theme played in my head. Never have I missed having a Mabari around so much.
After that, he got his first look at the Architect, and was suitably intrigued by the weird magic darkspawn. Alas, he didn't get revenge for his Wardens OR any answers since it disappeared with its silent dwarf and Velanna's sister before he could do much of anything.
Still, at least he stopped the caravans being attacked and got another Warden recruit out of the deal. He headed back to Vigil's Keep for another hasty Joining ceremony ...

Rheve was pleased that Velanna survived the Joining - he liked Anders fine but didn't really think he had the dedication to make a good Warden, whereas he thought that if he could just get Velanna's anger pointed in the direction of the darkspawn, she'd do great. So he definitely made the effort to take her under his wing. He was also increasingly impressed with Nathaniel - a surprisingly good archer for a human! And while he found it bemusing at first that the dearly departed Hero of Ferelden had managed to win against the Blight with help from the likes of Oghren, there was no doubt that he was impressive on the battlefield. (Off the battlefield, not so much, but Rheve managed to have a sense of humour about it.) For her first proper Warden mission, he took Velanna to deal with the Deep Roads that had been uncovered under Vigil's Keep. As an experienced Warden, Rheve had been into the Deep Roads before, so he made short work of the darkspawn under the Keep. He was curious about all the Avvar stuff and the demon down there, but investigating historical connections between the Avvar and the dwarves and finding out who put a shade in a weird device wasn't really his job.
After that it was even more Deep Roads as he went to investigate the hunter's reports of an uncovered entrance and found Kal'Hirol. He managed to rescue a passing dwarf and decided to send Nathaniel back to the Keep while he let her guide the group to where the Legion of the Dead had been fighting.
Together they fought their way through a horde of darkspawn (and the odd repurposed golem - this is why darkspawn smart enough to work control rods are bad news!) until they came across groups of darkspawn fighting each other. Stranger and stranger! But not as strange as the entirely new and completely disgusting new kind of darkspawn that were also down there. Fighting a giant inferno golem was practically a relief after being knocked over and chewed on by a few of those. (Mostly a problem for Rheve because by this point I'd made him a Battlemage, which is an amazing specialization with the downside that you need to be in the middle of everything to get it to work. So satisfying when Hand of Winter freezes everything around you, though. I can see why they never brought that back in future games - it's just too powerful - but it sure is fun while it lasts.)
After that, it was just a matter of dropping a slab on some Broodmothers and asking the adorable dwarf if she wanted to join him on the surface. (Hey, the more Wardens the merrier.)

(I feel vaguely guilty about monopolising this thread, but I guess if nobody else is up to much right now, let us press on ...) Rheve was starting to think his recruits had some kind of reverse-curse on them: six Joinings, and only one death! Maybe people are just tougher in Ferelden than back home? In any case, it was time to go and hunt down the last Orleasian Warden that might be alive and try to find Kristoff. (He left this until last because he was kind of hoping that this was a problem that would solve itself, but no such luck for a Warden-Commander.) The Blackmarsh was not promising - between the gross disgusting swamp and the Veil tears all over the place he was not enthusiastic about being there. Even less so when a bunch of werewolves showed up for some reason. (Probably because a wolf pack wandered too near a Veil tear, I guess. And because BioWare spent time making those assets and wanted to get some more mileage out of them.) After seeing what the place was like, he wasn't surprised when he found Kristoff's body - but the presence of yet another talking darkspawn was more of a shock, as was being dragged into the Beyond.
Being conscious in the Beyond wasn't anything unusual for him, of course, but being dragged there against his will with some kind of weird artifact was definitely novel, as was the fact that it had managed to drag Nathaniel and Oghren in with him. (And Velanna, but that didn't seem especially odd.) So he was fairly keen to get himself out ASAP. He sided with a nearby spirit of Justice rather than the Baroness because any smart blood mage knows that you never trust a demon to do what you want.
... which would have been fine if the spirit hadn't been dragged straight out with him. In the spirit of not trusting spirits, he didn't really trust Justice, no matter how righteous he seemed. However, letting him wander off unsupervised seemed like a much worst idea than taking him along, so he sent Oghren back to the Keep and recruited him to fight the Baroness. (After running around the swamp picking up all the Sentinel Armour pieces. I know it's theoretically possible to put that on Oghren or a Warrior protagonist, but it's one of those sets that I only ever give to one character. Such an iconic look for him.)
For a Pride Demon on the other side of the Veil, the Baroness didn't present too much of a challenge, and then it was just a matter of dispatching the local ghost dragon before they went home. (Why is there a local ghost dragon? What is that splitting thing she does about? Why is Ferelden like this?)
With all leads investigated and a team fully assembled, it was time to deal with these darkspawn once and for all ...

By popular demand: the rest of Awakening! Rheve assembled his team - Oghren, Velanna and Nathaniel - and set off for Amaranthine to confront the darkspawn, only to discover the city overrun and Vigil's Keep under attack from another force. Not wanting to risk spreading the taint through the population, he ordered the city burned to the ground and turned to march for home. Vigil's Keep was even more full of darkspawn than it had been when he first arrived, and it didn't get any better until he'd fought off a whole lot of armoured ogres and various other nonsense. He concluded that there was no way to finish this without finding the Mother - but fortunately he finally had a lead! The Dragonbone Wastes were another place he'd have loved to investigate further (assuming the dragon cultists could be dealt with somehow) but he was in a hurry to finally deal with the mother, so he fought he way through and started marching through her tower, only to unexpectedly find the Architect!
Now, Rheve was initially hostile - but then, this conversation seemed like his only chance to find out WTF was going on here, so he restrained himself from starting in with the fireballs and listened to what the Architect had to say. By pure chance I'd ended up making my party out of the three companions that approve of keeping him alive, and after some consideration Rheve let himself be swayed by their opinions. After all, questionable as the Architect's experiments might be, was it any worse than blood magic? And given that he seemed to be the only person in a couple of thousand years to maybe make some progress on solving the darkspawn problem, Rheve decided to let him continue.
He wasn't even all that upset when the Mother revealed the true course of the last Blight - you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs, and as someone with a deep knowledge of Warden history he knew just how much easier to solve the Fifth Blight was compared to the previous four. Hell, maybe the Architect had done everyone a favour by starting it early, and that was why there were fewer darkspawn and less land was blighted and destroyed over all!
In any case, the Architect helped him to dispatch the Mother and then left for parts unknown. Rheve returned to Vigil's Keep with his Wardens in tow, congratulating himself on a job well done. Of course, a Warden's work is never really finished ...

So, got around to doing some Dragon Age again Minerva made it past Ostagar, lots of people didn't Alistair: Duncan... Minerva and Morrigan:
Minerva isn't very sure yet what to think of Loghain's infamous betrayal strategic withdrawal
so on to Lothering we went, along the way we got ambushed by darkspawn...and Minerva met her dog I've decided to go the Geralt of Rivia route and named him Roach I use the Mabari madness mod to add some diversity to the appearance of Dog (I apologize for the unflattering image, he looks like he's smiling ) the coloration I used for Roach is called Sealpoint by the mod unfortunatly whenever you put a kaddis on him he reverts back to his original color, so yeah...there's that
Minerva was able to intimidate the bandits into letting them through
(though I doubt she'll succeed at the second attempt to have them leave as well, so far I only managed to do that on a warrior) for now I'm just going to think a bit on the route her story will take after Lothering (and by route I mean what areas I'll tackle first)

In order to avoid the hated court approval for the Winter Palace, I created a new Trevelyan dual-wield rogue named Alexander. It was also going so well until I reached Haven, at which point Windows Defender crashed it. Anyway, I plan to get back to it ASAP.

In order to avoid the hated court approval for the Winter Palace, I created a new Trevelyan dual-wield rogue named Alexander. It was also going so well until I reached Haven, at which point Windows Defender crashed it. Anyway, I plan to get back to it ASAP. Oh, WEWH!... I really dislike that quest. I finished mostly with good (~100) approval, but rather because of I hate the hallastatuettes... I don't have non-mage Trevelyan. Vashoth mage needs to that filthy Orlesians!

Vashoth mage needs to that filthy Orlesians! You get 100 without the statuettes? I didn't ignore the statuettes utterly, only I don't have patience for gathering these. And yes, I was always on nearly full but never succeeded the public truce, what would be my favourite end of Orlais...
