Alas, I'll never understand the cult of Anders! When I first encountered him in Awakening, my first thought was: "What's this? Alistair in drag?" (I always felt the Tevinter mage outfits for men all looked lame!) I don't like Awakening Anders at all. It's him mixed up with Justice, who by the end of it all went a bit demon. Bit it changed him for the better. My Fave romance of DA2 is Fenris. But I have 4 canon world states for each LI and I was having problems with picking a partner for Anders because I was mad at him. Awakening Anders has always come off to me as an attempt to reproduce Alistair. However, I looove him in DA2, fascinating character. I love complicated people.

I gave Awakening Anders back to the templars. though i thought i'd get him back and did not realize what a bind that'd put me in.

So, here is my DA2 Nathan.....
....aaaand, here is DAI Nathan. Not only does he not look like DA2 Nathan, he also doesn't really look like what he did in the CC. I give up.
Meanwhile, Bruenor has been having some fun.
Also, working

phoray: Thanks.
I decided to do things a bit differently this time and follow PapaCharlie9 's glitch video to drain the lake before taking the keep. So, after taking out two of the three assassins (I don't remember which one it is, but you have to get it before draining the lake, otherwise they won't spawn; the third one you can't get until afterwards since that group is in the Flats) and checking out the sleeping dragon, it was hop, glitch, and jump time around the backside of Caer Bronach. I did fine until the very last jump spot, where I couldn't get the tac cam waypoint to work, but I was finally able to jump up on the rock normally and get on with it.
Talked to Command and agreed to kill the rage demon for her (it?). Also found all the bodies for the sister up on the hill. It always takes me forever to find all 3 of them, which is crazy since it's not like there are a ton of houses there.
Oh, and one glitchy thing that happened due to my, uh...glitching? The fade rift in the Flats isn't there. It shows up on the map, but no rift. There seem to be a lot more demons around than usual though. I wonder if the rift will appear once I take control of the keep?
Just made it to the cave entrance. Will try to tackle that tomorrow while smelling turkey all day.
Mmmm....turkey. Happy Thanksgiving to all in the US!

My husband turned out to be a lot more ill than we had thought. Unfortunately, we won't be able to go to my folks either. Even so, Happy Turkey Day! Or for everyone else, Happy Thursday! So yeah, Trespasser. --Apparently I didn't finish the elven clan WT chain. So Rowan's clan was wiped out. --Tried to let Ser Jerras escape. That didn't work out well.
--Took Cassandra with me the entire time. She needed to hit something a lot.
--Nice to see that the writers/devs remembered the Qunari mages. Those guys hurt.
--While going through the library, I found myself chuckling. "The Dread Wolf appears as a pleasant and humble guest." Rowan reads that right there. And yet she's still shocked that Solas is Fen'Harael. I wouldn't have needed the meta knowledge with all of the info right there in the game.
--Meanwhile, it seems Solas is a mix of Lucifer and Loki. I compare him to Lucifer not just because Solas is a rebel. There is some interpretations of Lucifer that suggest that he went against God because he wanted humans to be free from His rules. That they should be allowed to live free without being slaves to a higher power. The Loki parallel is probably more obvious.
--"I love you, but I have to destroy the world. You know, for the elves." Fucking really, Solas? Next thing I'll hear is "I'll destroy Spira! I'll save it!" (FFX reference)
--Freed the dragon, because I found it funny. I didn't feel like fighting it anyways, so I aligned the chains.
--Poor Rowan. She lost her clan. She lost the only person she's ever loved and the only other man she's ever kissed. She's a virgin. She can no longer use her bow to hunt. Her anonymity is forever lost, so it's harder to hide in the shadows. She no longer has her vallaslin and doesn't believe in the Dalish tales anymore. So even if she wanted to find a new clan, none would except her.
She could never fit into Sera's group of Red Jennies. Neither Dalish or city, and now neither fighter nor hunter. Haunted by the fleeting dreams of a wolf gazing forlornly from a great distance.
Rowan would have gone with Solas to help him with his army and his goal if the game gave me the choice. That's truly what she would have done. <shrug> We roleplay within the limits set by the devs, so I made what decisions I could that would have fit her.
I know it isn't a good idea, but I kept the Inquisition going. They are now going to serve as Cassandra's personal honor guard. That's all Rowan has left. Her closest friends were Varric, Cassandra and Dorian. Without the Inquisition, she's alone. She's not depressed, but she knows that without the Inquisition, she has no purpose. At least this way, she can stay close to Cassandra.
--She vowed to try to redeem Solas, because love can make people very moronic.
It's probably one of the saddest endings of a player character that I've ever gone through in a BioWare game. Well, at least without the plot forcing things to end on a down note, such as with Mass Effect. It left me almost in tears. However, I'm not going to change a thing. That was Rowan's tale.
--Nice touch with Hawke coming back to help Varric rule Kirkwall. We might see Varric and/or Hawke as NPCs in the Free Marches come next game. Hawke still needs to reveal what is going on at Weisshaput.
--Heading to Tevinter and possibly Par Volen. I'm honestly a little surprised. We have the rest of the Free Marches, Antiva and Nevarra left to go. I thought we'd be going to those countries first. Anyway, I'm sure we'll have our darkspawn quest chain/DLC revolving around the Warden's HQ. I'm really wondering if there's only 2 games or so left. After I posted earlier, I fired up Saints Row 4 and started a new game. I needed something light, immature and fairly mindless after finishing the rest of DA:I. Been listening to stuff like "This is How We Do It" while shooting aliens and gaining super powers helped make sure that I wasn't crying after finishing Trespasser. I'll probably get ready to do my mage, but it'll be a bit. They certainly outdid themselves with this DLC. Patrick Weekes always writes (imho) amazing and very complex characters. Solas is no exception to that. I wonder if he's going to help write Maevaris for the next game. I'm sure Gaider left the groundwork in place for her to come into the games.

I haven't done Trespasser yet. I'm also doing the Solasmance (first time romancing a male character albeit with a female PC). I just finished the Fade/Adamant story; I'm glad the relationship survived my PC's efforts to redeem the Wardens. The "Solas greatly disapproves" was worrisome. I was impressed with Weekes' work in Masked Empire; about equal to Asunder, the best of Gaider's trilogy. How long has he been with DA? So long as he sticks around, DA games should remain decent.

This is Patrick's first DA game, but he's been with the company for years. He wrote the character Mordin Solus as well as a lot of the Tuchunka story arc (the ME series) He's mega talented and one of my favorite video game writers.

Finished up in Crestwood, except for the dragon. Got fried by the Ferelden Frostback multiple times. Party is lvl 11 but not hearty enough to survive repeated fireballs (also, it's not my strongest party - I was hoping for dragon fun with Bull and Sera, but I think it's too early). Fire res tonics are apparently not working as intended. Also, why does the AI insist on leaving NPCs standing in the middle of a fire pit? Oh, look, Iron Bull got roasted..... again.

Fire res tonics are apparently not working as intended. Also, why does the AI insist on leaving NPCs standing in the middle of a fire pit? Oh, look, Iron Bull got roasted.....again. I laughed out loud at that. Varric, no, get out of the fire. Solas, stop trying to tank the damn dragon. Cass, turn that thing! Ah, the joys of the suicidal AI in this game. It's one of my few complaints, but it's a major one. I've never had an issue with ranged classes staying flanked or otherwise away from the dragons in DA until this game. You're probably too low level, but see if you have the mats to upgrade your fire resist pots. Also, I don't even take on the Hinterlands dragon until I get my healing potions upgraded by at least one as well as my rejuvenation pots. I hit level 12 on my last character when the dragon died. That was the soonest I could do it without going splat. Finally, if you can, get some fire resist arms/legs going. If you need to, stop by the Crossroads and buy some dragonling scales, or just farm them. That'll net you a +10 resistance to fire. If you stack that up, it helps a ton. That's how I got the frost dragons down. I loaded up everyone with arms/legs with exclusively cold resist on them. I also take grenades with me. The Jar of Bees is my favorite, since it does a high damage per tick. It also does a good job at helping with any adds that might show up. It also follows the mob around unlike the Pitch Grenade. I upgrade that as much as I can. Despite the silliness, it's really effective when it's fully upgraded. It's the only grenades I use on my characters. Sera can work well, but start getting points into the Shadow tree. I'd also recommend turning on Leaping Shot just for that fight if you have it. She'll bounce more out of the way. You'll still need to babysit her though. The key with Bull is to outfit him like you would a tank. Try to craft or loot gear that gives him guard and/or increases his constitution. I've also taken him full sword 'n board and he makes a great tank. Otherwise, I'd honestly wait until later to take Bull with you. Once you can buy at least the grey version of the Guard Belt, he'll stay alive much longer. Cass and Blackwall won't need the extra constitution and guard quite as much. Don't worry too much about that effecting his DPS. If you keep him in the trees with high strength and give him a good weapon, he'll be in good shape for some killer damage. He can't do any damage if he's dead. Edit: For my next character, I'm finding myself torn. A mage is fun, but I oddly miss playing a tank. I've only played one in the entire series, and that was DA:I. I might have to do that again. I've got a human lady rolled up and ready to go, so I might play her. Not sure yet.

I switched out Sera for Solas and Frosty was toast. Took all of the healing potions (8, since I haven't increased them yet) and the rejuv but still. Bruenor advanced to lvl 12 as a result and everyone came back to full health.
I upgrade potions as I go. I've got about half the upgrades now, maybe more, but I'm still missing the later zone ingredients. I'm also being lazy on crafting this game. I made Bruenor and Dorian some armor about 3 levels ago and that's been it.
Not sure why but it seems like it's taking me forever to level up, even accounting for Take It Slow being on. It seems like I got to Skyhold at a much lower level than I usually do, but the only zone I avoided was the Oasis - I did everything else.
Currently in Western Approach alternating fights with spiders, hyenas, and White Claws.
Edit to add some pics: The first two are from my first attempt, right when the fight started [edit the edit: actually, I guess these are from mid-fight judging from Frosty's health - I got her down to about 25% before everyone died]. Skip fail #'s 1, 2, and 3, and go straight to the third pic from attempt #4, which was a success.
Finally getting the flirts with Harding. I think this is the second one.
Taking Caer Bronach in daytime (warning: the Inquisitor still says, "we need to drain the lake," even though he'd just finished doing just that and the rift was already closed )
Lastly, the mystery of the missing fade rift. For some reason it isn't there unless the quest has activated, which doesn't happen until after you take the keep.

Congrats! Sera is okay but I've noticed that the mages tend to hit much harder at lower levels than rogues do. We shine in later levels but archers in paritcular don't do nearly as much dps earlier on. What class are you playing? I think I missed that somehow in the thread. To be honest, the only potions I set out to upgrade are the jar, rejuvenation and healing pots. I tend to sit on herbs forever anyhow. The rest I don't bother with. I only used tonics on my first character. After that, I just go with crafting arms/legs. Take It Slow sounds like an interesting trial. Keep us posted on your progress.

From the diary of Kara Trevelyan: Met with Kihm, he looked like an Assassin, so I assmed he was one. He wasn't so I went onto Heir. who was the Assassin. She had some odd notions on the subject...something about being a door?...but over all being a weapon, inviting Death, admittedly it is things I want to do. Striking from the shadows.
With that in mind and the vast intelligence apparatus of the Inquisition we set out for Crestwood, rumor has it a guild of Assassins has embedded itself in the local bandits raiding the hills. I killed them, three of them. I am uncertain what I have to do with the three weapons and deathroots to make a 'murder knife' or what a murder knife will do, but apparently it does, and apparently this is the beginning. So off I go.
In other news Leilianna has me off hunting for Caelpernia and information on her. Fun. For once I have nothing to say other then the diary...actually no wait I thought it was very fun that one of the assassins was named 'Bombast'. As I have intimated I am most...annoyed that there was not more to the Specializations. But oh well.

Couldn't sleep, so I decided it was time to roll up a warrior. She's a Cousland Trevelyan only with the North American accent. For one, I needed a change of pace. For another, Valena spent a lot of time away training. Mainly with dwarves. She isn't very comfortable around elves. This will be a pro-Templar warrior, but at times honorable to a fault. At least to start out with. Val will be sword and board for this journey. Being a tank has it's own pros and cons, but playing a human warrior will be a good change of RP pace. She won't be a fanatic and won't turn the garden into a Chantry area, but she believes in the Maker. It was nice playing a human character this time around. Folks are stressing about Valena falling out of the Rift far more than they are worried about her height or her ears. I'm going to keep a tally of how many times Solas lies in the game. This should be fun. Count: 3. "This magic is unkown to me." <snicker> "No mage has such power." Perhaps an ancient and more-or-less immortal mage bent on destroying the world might find a way to do it. That's just crazy talk. Edit: "I did nothing." That's two lies in the first interactive conversation with Solas. Oh boy. I have a feeling the lies are going to slowly pile up. Edit hours later: Put in the correct name and adjusted the number of lies. I was dead tired by the time I went back to bed. I got her to Haven and now I'm chuckling at her in the sight of the JoH heavy armor. I think now I might be able to sleep. Night guys.

I'm confused. How can you make a human character be a Cousland instead of a Trevelyan?

Finished up in Crestwood, except for the dragon. Got fried by the Ferelden Frostback multiple times. Party is lvl 11 but not hearty enough to survive repeated fireballs (also, it's not my strongest party - I was hoping for dragon fun with Bull and Sera, but I think it's too early). Fire res tonics are apparently not working as intended. Also, why does the AI insist on leaving NPCs standing in the middle of a fire pit? Oh, look, Iron Bull got roasted..... again. "Iron" Bull My *#$! More like "papier mache" Bull if anything! If left to the game AI, he goes down against all but the weakest enemies! After killing all the other dragons, we went after the wimpy dragon in the Western Approach. I took Iron Bull, Varric, and Solas. The only one who went down was--of course--Iron Bull. If you've been collecting shards, you can farm fire resistance belts at the Oasis. I focused on the fire chambers and managed to get to the superb fire belt before Haven. (That still wasn't enough for my team to beat the dragon before Haven. I had to come back with Masterwork armor.) Also, remember the Black Emporium. You should be able to buy Tier 2 fire resistance leather there which would help. And don't forget the tonic recipes at VR!

Bull is actually reliable in fight without it I'm very beginner on battle mechanics but I noticed my last play through when I was trying to get IB and Dorian together that he would die immediately. He may as well impale himself on his own sword. So, I bothered to go into AI for something not potion use related for once and his whole reaver tree seems pretty stupid--- or, you know, too complicated for the AI fail that is DAI.

Well, in Dorian's case it's not that bad if he dies - he has passives in his tree to make good use of his second... not-life
