That seems t ob ethe recipe for the DA heroes doesn't it? I can't wait to see what type of misfortune corrals the next hero into the world saving gig.
One should note that the Warden does get a unique way of saying what they were doing when they were recruited
Poor Cailan sure gets subjected to plenty of mind boggling answers and he's so excited about meeting all those wardens too.

My favorite remains the City Elf
Cailan: so nice to meet you, how's life in the alienage? City Elf: ...I killed a noble for kidnapping me/my fiance and raping my cousin Cailan: ...wait...what?
in the first line Cailan is sunshine and rainbows...and then in the other line the clouds roll in

in the first line Cailan is sunshine and rainbows...and then in the other line the clouds roll in In spite of his royal training to keep face Cailan sounds so shocked. 'He wha... what?!' - with Cousland.
One can understand him considering the implications of all those answers.
Regicide - Dwarf Noble: I got framed for killing my brother (I mean, whether you did it or not, you're still framed) Mutiny vs the social structure - Dwarf Commoner: I went to a match and entered it illegally, but on the plus side I did rid the city of a crime-lord so... Blood Magic! (far worse than he imagines since that mage on the run contributes to taking out Cailan's ally, Arl Eamon) - Magi: ...my friend guilt-tripped me into helping him escape from the Circle after telling me he wasn't a blood mage...son of a *lots of cursing* Military Mutiny during darkspawn threat! - Human Noble: my family was murdered by our closest ally More social structure mutiny and in his backyard too - City Elf: I murdered a noble after he kidnapped me/my fiance More blood magic and cursed artifacts in his kingdom - Dalish Elf: I got sick after my friend touched a wacky mirror
As if darkspawn isn't enough to deal with.
As per our wonderful Dalish, that mirror also gobbles up the mentioned friend who mostly likely touched it at our encouragement. It's not so anti climatic after all.
It's funny that you've made this list of answers because just earlier today I made a post in DAO section for a thread describe your warden's motivation in one sentence. It sure resonates with this.
After listening to all of these recruitment speeches, one might question whether the Wardens get any volunteers.

Today was a catchup day. I removed the Trials I had on except for Even Ground and Grizzly End for I found the reward cache just wasn't being rewarded enough for changes in gameplay so I took the approach of trials that I wanted in the game and forget about the reward cache. I have also been trying to find better builds for my team and been failing, I think I will go search and see if there are any recommendations next time I play.

Jus tas well the yhav ethe rightof conscription then And the most convenient, the Warden's past cannot be counted against them, card. I used that during some of my City Elf rantings in this thread
Guard captain: *captain uses arrest* I'm taking this elf to the dungeons Duncan: no you're not *Duncan uses right of conscription, it's very effective* Guard captain: *captain's arrest fails* son of a...fine take them away
it's funny how most of them aren't exactly the whole "noble knight" thing I mean...Daveth is literally a thief and a pickpocket, even Duncan himself was a thief in his youth before being conscripted
Then there's our own potential recruits: Nathaniel who's both a thief and an attempted murderer (granted he rethinks himself of this latter fact and doesn't actually go through with it), Velanna literally murdered people after a misunderstanding, Justice is...somewhat clean since he's a spirit, but in the Fade I'm sure there's spirits/demons who'd accuse him of some things as well. Sigrun became a member of the Legion after accidentally killing a guard in self defense. Anders is an escaped "convict" and if we're to believe that one templar also a murderer. And Oghren...also a murderer

Justice is...somewhat clean since he's a spirit, but in the Fade I'm sure there's spirits/demons who'd accuse him of some things as well. Justice is a blend hence he occupies the body of a former Grey Warden - refer to rule no 1 about how he got recruited as a GW. Guard captain: *captain uses arrest* I'm taking this elf to the dungeons Duncan: no you're not *Duncan uses right of conscription, it's very effective* Guard captain: *captain's arrest fails* son of a...fine take them away It's such a bummer for all those people with the arrest warrants. Some of them are willing to mutiny against both King's orders and GW conscription. That's why it's always such a pleasure to execute that Templar lady who wants to arrest Anders, she speaks of King Alistair's authority with disrespect.

Last time I played my Tabris I picked the "I never liked them(templars) anyway" when doing the quest for Anders, there were quite a few things she and Anders didn't agree on, but they could agree most templars were idiots

When the Awakening was out, I didn't know Anders' fate yet from DA2. I really liked him and was more than willing to defend him even without the King's reference. I wouldn't say I dislike the Templars, though, considering I romance every Templar available in every game.

I don't dislike Templars either, most of them are good people...who may or may not be doing some stupid things because the Chantry says so
and I too have romanced the ex-Templars in the past, though I'm more partial towards our resident elves these days (my canon romances are Zevran, Fenris and Cullen)

Yeah I wouldn' t say I dislike Templars given they serv ea noble purpose in protecting people from bad magic. But I also agree that sometimes some of them go a bit too far. I will admit though given what happened in the end with Anders maybe the templar who was trying to arrest him in Awakening was right. But given they were such a jerk about i tit's understandable wh ythe warden might be inclined to still say no he's a warden now leave him alone.

It's such a bummer for all those people with the arrest warrants. Some of them are willing to mutiny against both King's orders and GW conscription. That's why it's always such a pleasure to execute that Templar lady who wants to arrest Anders, she speaks of King Alistair's authority with disrespect. I find it hilarious that said templar is willing to anger the King, and potentially willing to kill Ferelden's Queen/national hero because she finds the need to apprehend one mage You forgot the part about said person also being Ferelden's Warden-Commander, but yeah, trying to straight up murder a Cousland King/Queen - It is not as if it would be the first time for Chantry agents to do attempt such a thing, mind you, but still... Last time I played my Tabris I picked the "I never liked them(templars) anyway" when doing the quest for Anders, there were quite a few things she and Anders didn't agree on, but they could agree most templars were idiots This reminds me how antagonistic the Templars were towards those Dalish camped near Kirkwall. Eh, some casual torture, murder and asshattery "in His name" (especially towards dirty heathen heretic infidels) isn't really... antagonistic, isn't it? I mean, by templar standards, all that is basically Tuesday. Also, Alistair's schtick seems to be more like insisting on EX-templar. The other dude, not so much. --- Bah, all this talk makes me want to boot up game and scrap some buckets. *backlash incoming... 3... 2... 1... *

Did a little catchup today for I probably won't have a lot of time over the next few days. I did Adamant Fortress, The Fade, and started and the reset The Winter Palace after 15min when I found out about needing Sera for some chests that probably contain nothing I want. Tomorrow I probably will be just logging in a couple of times to pick new War Table missions and that is about it.
I also decided that when I get into a area with a bunch of combat I am going to test Rift Mage and Knight Enchanter for I don't know which specialization to pick for each one has pros and cons for me so I figure play both and see what is more fun for me.

I am going to test Rift Mage and Knight Enchanter Since they nerfed KE and the blade became chargeable, I prefer Rift Mage. Plus, Stonefist. I have lots of fun as a Force Mage Hawke in DA2, and RM uses a lot of the same spells, even if they pretend it's something entirely new.

Thanks for the information, I was leading towards Rift because its a distance class. I unlocked Lost Temple the other day so I think I can find a couple of quick fights in there to verify Rift Mage is my way to go.

Yeah Rift mage is m yfavourite spec as well thou ghI enjoy all 3. Currently enjoying life as a Necrmancer in my current playthrough. I'm mostly only using it fo rthe focus abilit yon this run as I do sometimes find Haste a cool power. Spent mos tof yestreda yin the Hissing Wastes doing the quests there and killin gthe dragon as I'm going after all the dragons this playthrough. Only got the 3 in the Emprise to kill now though but I'm planning to go afte rthem today as I'm working on the quests in the Emprise now before I turn to the DLC's and last parts of the main story. I've started the DLC's but I've onl yreally don ethe firs tpart of them. Mostl yfo rth shield ability and the Lyrium infused staff.

Since they nerfed KE and the blade became chargeable, I prefer Rift Mage. Plus, Stonefist. I have lots of fun as a Force Mage Hawke in DA2, and RM uses a lot of the same spells, even if they pretend it's something entirely new. I'm still salty about that Spirit Blade change I thin kthe yjus tdidn't want people abusing it. Especially as it does do a ton of damage t oanyone you use it against. Even the dragons don't like getting whacked by it too much

Got hit by a bug in The Winter Palace today. I couldn't progress the main quest and reloading my last save didn't work. Looks like I am going to load my save from Skyhold and start from scratch for I don't want to keep loading old saves and get stuck just cut my losses and start over. Glad I have taken that route to make a fresh save before going to any zone in the map for the first time.

Yeah I think I got hit by a bug recently when playing the Descent DLC as I couldn' t access the firemine ability as I was hoping to use it agains tthe darkspawn when fighting the Emissary Alpha at the end of the darkspawn gauntlet as I like to call it. Don't know what caused i tas I've neve rreally been denied access to a power that I've purchased in the skill tree before. Shame really as I could have done with it when fighting it as it turned out a very awkward fight because of that. Especiallly given fighting the Alpha is a hard fight anyway. Thankfully I got through the fight in the end but I really did have to work for it given how many times Cassandra went down. Hopin gfo rbette rluck when taking on the final boss of the level later

I decided to skip The Winter Palace today and just go around and clear a little of Exalted March. A friend suggested an elementalist build and if I am engaged with enough enemies at once it will crash the game. Not sure why but I am just not looking forward to doing the Wicked Eyes quest at The Winter Palace.

I had that problem when playing a bombs-away! Artificer rogue. So.Many.Explosions. are very pretty but also very crash-y. That was the build that let me take down the Highland Ravager on Nightmare in about 30 seconds. I was very disappointed it was so easy.
