And without upgrades, not only does Jack get killed but Garrus does too (because default never recruits Thane). Meh
I played default state ME3 and Garrus wasn't dead. I think default Shep recruits everyone in 2 but doesn't do any loyalty missions or upgrades.
Oh I know he isn't dead. What I mean is the selections they used for Default actually do not work. You need upgrades for Tali, Garrus, and Jack to live (since Thane and Legion aren't recruited in default, then it shifts to them). In addition, no loyalty missions are done by defauilt. Without Garrus or Zaeed (no DLC) or Grunt woken up, then there's no hope whatsoever for anyone in the Hold the Line section. And without a Biotic specialist, more die as well. Without Miranda and Jacob loyal, then both them and even Shepard dies. It's just not thought out at all. edit: Hmm, or maybe Thane was recruited in default, but died due to no upgrades. It still doesn't help much though.

Thane is recruited, since he turns up on the memorial wall. Also, according to this list, Jacob's loyalty mission is done: masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Forum:How_did_ME3's_Default_Shepard_play_in_ME2%3F But, yes, the configurations don't match what we get if play the game the same way. I thought Tali was dead in a no-import game though, but apparently not.

I can't be sure of Jack/Tali/Garrus, but if Mordin isn't, I don't know why they would be. Yeah, Tali is there by default.. which makes little sense too. If she didn't get her Shield upgrade for the ship and Legion never activated, then she's Toast. And if she dies, Kasumi and Legion never active, then you have no Tech specialist either. So you have to send one of the remaining precious squaddies in and they die too. lol. I heard that Patrick Weekes pushed mid development to get her on the squad and Hudson finally budged. I think this is the only reason she's there.

I was kind of curious though, just to see if I could play something like "default", but enhanced a bit. I might as well stop thinking about it though.

Shawna Shepard: 1. Recruited Tali: a. Landed on Haestrom. Got attacked by Geth.
b. Found a radio. Talked to some Quarian guy protecting Tali. Watched a Geth dropship kill some Quarians.
c. Picked up some explosive charges. Destroyed a barrier that was blocking a door. Found a terminal and talked to Tali.
d. Was attacked by drones and two Geth Primes.
e. Was fired at by a Colossus. Met Kal Reegar.
f. Went up the left side and killed the Colossus. Kal Reegar survived. Took Tali back to the Normandy.
2. Gained Miranda's loyalty: a. Met with Miranda's contact. Went to go find her friend Niket.
b. Ran into Eclipse mercs. Some guy told Shawna and Miranda to get lost. Shawna snapped his neck, then they shot everyone else. Took an elevator to another floor.
c. Killed more mercs. Took another elevator.
d. Ran into Niket and the Eclipse leader. Discovered Niket had betrayed Miranda. Miranda killed Niket. Shawna killed everyone else.
e. Observed that Miranda's sister was with her family, then got out of there.
3. Gained Garrus's loyalty: a. Went to the Citadel, looked for Fade. Found a Volus instead. Killed some Krogan. Learned that Fade was actually Harkin.
b. Met Harkin. He ran. Chased after him. Lots of Blue Suns mercs and mechs died.
c. Finally caught up to Harkin. He called a meeting with Sidonis. Garrus shot Harkin in the leg.
d. Garrus shot Sidonis in the head.
4. Gained Zaeed's loyalty: a. Went to Zorya. Zaeed tapped into Blue Suns communications.
b. Killed some mercs. Discovered Zaeed used to lead the Blue suns.
c. Ran into Vido Santiago. Zaeed set the refinery on fire.
d. Some worker complained that they could not shut off the gas valves. Ignored him, and continued chasing after Vido.
e. Killed a bunch more mercs. Zaeed shot Vido in the leg, then set him on fire. Everyone walked away like badasses.
5. Convinced Patriarch to commit suicide by merc.
6. Told Anto that Ish was selling him out. Ish disappeared soon after. Must be a coincidence.
7. Played poker with Tali and the engineers. Shawna won.

Jonathan Shepard (ME2):
1. Thessia - Needed to find whatever data the asari councilor said was hidden in an ancient temple. It was a mess. If a race of biotics is getting slaughtered here I can only imagine what's happening on Earth right now. When I examined the statue dedicated to the asari goddess Athame, it could sense a Prothean beacon. Moreover, there was a picture of Athame give knowledge to the Protheans. It looked a lot like Javik, as did some other relics in the temple. It seems obvious that Athame was actually a Prothean. When I touched a plate connected to the statue, it caused a crack in it. Going around a touching other artifacts eventually caused the statue to crack open entirely, revealing the Prothean beacon. Out of it came another Prothean VI. It gave us some information about the Crucible. It also talked about the Reapers having a master. Then it retreated when it sensed indoctrinated forces approaching. Not surprisingly, Kai Leng appeared. If there'd been any doubt as to whether Cerberus were indoctrinated, this put it to rest. My team should have been good enough to take on Leng and his gunship but he had some kind of crazy shielding like nothing I've ever seen before. We were defeated and Leng escaped with the Prothean VI, leaving us with no idea of how to complete the Crucible. Worse, the Reapers were there in such great force that there was no way to overcome them. We had to flee the system.
2. Normandy - I reported the events of Thessia to Councilor Tevos. There was no chastising here, simply the need to figure out how the asari civilization could continue to exist afterward. The squad and major crew met to discuss how to find Cerberus. Traynor had tracked Kai Leng to the Iera system, which is the location of Horizon. No happy memories from there since that's where Kaidan and I had an encounter when I was using Cerberus resources to fight the Collectors. It's also the home of the supposed "Sanctuary" that's said to be safe against the Reapers. That in itself makes it suspect. The privates watching the door to the war room had it right, though. Had the asari not let politics keep them out of the conflict this might have been avoided. Or if they'd listened to me 3 years ago. Javik is a jerk. Sure, the loss of a planet is insignificant versus the loss of a galaxy. It's still bad. Each planet is one step toward the entire galaxy.
3. Horizon - Here to investigate Sanctuary. Oriana Lawson had an outgoing message on a loop telling people to stay away. If it was ever a safe haven that was no longer the case. Cerberus was fighting the Reapers in the sky. First time I've seen them at odds. Then I found a message from Miranda. She said it was a Cerberus facility and her father was running it. Bad news if a guy with his money was working for the Illusive Man. Also found Reaper tech. Then we found video footage of refugees being put in tanks and turned into husks. Could someone who isn't indoctrinated really go through with something like this? I've encountered three Prothean VI's: Vigil, Vendetta and - in a Prothean holo - Victory. From them I've learned that those who are slowly indoctrinated will engage in behavior that benefits the Reapers but will think helps their own people. This was true of Saren. It's obviously also true of the Illusive Man and Henry Lawson. And more footage showing Kai Leng getting the jump on Miranda. Dammit! When I got there I saw Miranda was injured. Henry Lawson then grabbed Oriana and put I gun to her head. I convinced him to stand down and walk away. He agree but Miranda wasn't having it. She sent him hurling to his death with her biotics. Miranda had managed to get a tracer on Kai Leng. Now we'd be able to track him to the Illusive Man.
4. Normandy - An interesting chat with EDI. She observed human behavior that ran counter to personal survival. In the end, she realized she would risk non-functionality for Joker. If you want to know what it's like to see a being come alive, that's it. She's human, for whatever that's worth. I've never seen Kaidan this angry. He's always the most level-headed but what he saw at Sanctuary has him in a rage - slow and simmering, to be sure, but definitely there. And Tali got drunk over the Miranda situation, mostly because Miranda stood up to her father while Tali never could.
5. Citadel - Grounded. Not like when Udina did it to keep me from pursuing Saren. This was because the Normandy was showing some wear and tear - just like I was. Hackett ordered me to Anderson's Citadel apartment. It's huge by any standard and very well furnished. Anderson contacted me and told me it was mine to have, that he had no intentions of leaving Earth. Probably thinks he'll never get that chance. If I let myself think past the end of this war, I can see me and Kaidan here.
6. Ryuusei's Sushi Bar - Got a message from Joker to meet at Ryuusei's Sushi Bar - the best sushi joint on the Citadel. After talking, it turns out he hadn't invited me and thought I'd invited him. Then Staff Analyst Maya Brooks showed up and said someone was hacking my accounts and had been behind the messages. That's when some mercs showed up to attack me. I got Joker away to warn the crew while I took on the mercs using only a gun I'd taken from a corpse. Brooks was shot after pushing me out of the way of a sniper. I happened to be on the fish tank floor which mercs subsequently shot out from under me. If not for those Cerberus implants I'm not sure I could have survived the fall. I made my way to Cision Motors where Brooks was supposed to get me extracted. Along the way I heard from Kaidan, Cortez and James. They made it clear that the entire crew was on the way. Got to Cision to see Kaidan in action against the mercs. He, uh, assisted me in opening the locked gates. When I got to the LZ, the C-Sec shuttle arrived - but it was full of the mercs! Before we could react, Wrex dropped down onto the shuttle and then singlehandedly took out the entire merc squad. Definitely pays to have krogan friends. Joker and Brooks then took a shuttle to pick us up, dropping us back at the apartment.
7. The Apartment - Was going to call Commander Bailey to get C-Sec involved but Brooks suggested that would just make him a target. We were on our own. Well, sort of. At that moment we were four: myself, Kaidan, Wrex and Brooks. Then Liara showed up with Glyph and decided to examine the pistol I'd picked up. It packed one hell of a punch. Then Joker arrived with EDI, Javik, Garrus, Tali, Cortez and James. Yeah, the gang was all here. My enemy had better look out. Anyway, Liara traced the gun to Elijah Khan, the owner of a casino. The mercs called themselves CAT6, which is the code for dishonorable discharges from the Alliance. It was suggested they were hired by the person who purchased guns from Khan - whose identity remains unknown.
8. Silver Coast Casino - This is where we'd find Khan. Needed someone to disable security and Brooks was the best fit so she came. And I brought Kaidan as my date. Yeah, we've been keeping our relationship on the quiet side until now but I'd love to see the Alliance slap fraternization charges on us in the middle of the war. Besides, we're both Spectres. That gives us a lot of ways to break the rules. We eventually made our way into Khan's safe room but he was dead. Someone had also wiped his drives. But we took them anyway. EDI can do wonders with technology.
9. The Apartment - We found out the CAT6 mercs bought a lot of weapons, including a mech. Something big is planned. Then Glyph informed us that my Spectre code was being used to access the Citadel Archives, a place even C-Sec can't go.
10. Citadel Archives - Decided to bring the whole squad but I could only have two with me - Kaidan and Wrex. The rest would break up into teams and we'd all meet up in the end. We stormed the archives and were attacked by CAT6. Then the mysterious leader stepped out into the opening. He looked and sounded just like me. He was a Cerberus clone intended for spare parts should I need them. Now he wanted to take me life but knew he'd never fool my friends. So he planned to kill all of them as well. We pursued him through the archives. At one point I was pinned but then there were ten - that's right, ten of my closest friends - shooting at my enemies, watching my back. We eventually fell into a trap. At that point Brooks revealed she was working with the clone and the clone replaced my fingerprints with his in Citadel records. Then we were to be locked in the vault forever. Fortunately, Glyph was not locked in and freed us all.
11. Normandy - I took Kaidan and Garrus with me to retake the Normandy. We would have been locked out had Traynor not just been kicked off with her expensive toothbrush, complete with mass effect fields. It was able to access a hatch that would not otherwise be able to be opened. So...she's getting a new toothbrush on me after this is done. I was dismayed to see he'd put my space hamster in a junk bin to be send to a shelter. That's just so wrong. He had to pay for that. It was a hell of a fight. I think he had the same shields as Kai Leng. In the end, my friends tipped the balance in my favor whereas his abandoned him. I forcibly ejected him off the ship. No room for two of me in the galaxy. Brooks tried to escape but I shot her. She was far too dangerous to leave running free. If she pulled crap like this in the middle of a war she could not be trusted.
12. The Apartment and Silversun Strip - James came over to show me his new N7 tattoo. He's committed, that's for sure. Had drinks with Garrus at Silver Coast Casino. Also got him a date. Watched Traynor kick some asari gamer's ass. Helped Zaeed win a plushie. Won a couple of plushies, a mod, and some music. Liara came over and taught me a song on the piano. Miranda came over and made a lot of clone jokes. Javik and I made an appearance in the latest Blasto movie. Gotta say I'm not a fan of the hanar who plays the part. Cortez took me joyriding in a skycar.

I ended up sticking to Normal difficulty, because it's manageable so far. I ended up trading EDI for Liara with her Singularity, and it goes quite well. I did a bit of exploring and reaper ducking, and played through Turian-Krogans alliance storyline.
Hurray, Mordin is back! Yeah, I guess for me a couple of buddies I know are more important than vision, so I am on my way to cure Genophage, along with 90% of the Shepard's out there. I've liked the missions on Tuchanka so far.
I also find it super cool when my Shepard go all berserk in melee. Weeeeeeee,
Oh, and I am religiously feeding my fish after each mission. Who knows, Shepard might have to eat it one day.
The State of the Galaxy though is unchanged, despite my endeavours, it's stuck at 50% and below weak. Oh, well.

Jenna went to SurKesh to pick up some Krogan ladies, alas only one made it, Eve. Better news was that Jenna was also reunited with her old friend Professor Solus! Jenna struck up an instant rapport with Eve, as badass girls have to stick together. She's also led a team to take out a Cerberus invasion force on Tuchanka, rescued some human colonists on Benning and rescued some turian troops. She's been busy. Also, cured the Genophage (too fond of Wrex not to saved him in ME1, even if I do end up trawling the galaxy for some knackered only armour), which meant goodbye to dear old Mordin, he's been a hoot this playthrough, i'm definitely using him more in future ME2 runs. Javik's annoying me, he really needs to lighten up. Squished by brutes once on this attempt.

Level of galactic readiness only increases by playing MP. You get +4% per completed match until you get up to like 75% and then you get +3% per match. It will also decrease over time (if you are playing while logged in) but it won't go below 50%. Whatever your war assets total ends up being, only that % of them will "count" in determining certain things at the end.

You'll make a bigger impact by just playing MP for awhile and upgrading a soldier to N7 status. It doesn't take too long. That way, you'll get permanent War Assets, no matter when you play.

thanks iM3gtr and rascoth. I always save Reegar and give Veetor back to Tali. I didn't know (after over 600 hours ) that you could talk to these guys when you talk to the admirals (?). I found and talked to both of them but only got the option to ask for help from Veetor. So didn't get Shepard yelling at the admiralty board to amuse Tali. But as I'm now with Shepard on Tuchanka and getting ready to get us some cerberus fools I will wait until my next playthrough. Also downloaded a new update mod for the K-man which gives him a lightly hairy chest. It is so very yum! Now does anyone else have trouble with Pinnacle Station? I want to put that smug Turian down and I want that Admiral's house. The only thing is the hunt missions. I take two or three steps in, see nothing, and the thing's over. Is this a glitch? Also do we really have to stay in survival mode for 2 freaking hours. It gets rather tedious. This is me on tumblr www.tumblr.com/blog/tragicmshenkomush in case you want some fanfic or fanart.

Those definitely sound like glitches. I haven't played it for a while but you should see enemies fairly quickly in hunt mode. There's a timer counting down but each time you kill an enemy time is added back on to the clock. I'm pretty sure you need to keep moving though, otherwise you won't see the spawns and time will run out.
I've never heard of the survival ones taking so long. Maybe it's 2 minutes instead of hours? Check the times on the board before starting - you just have to beat the highest score and then you can end it. I was just skimming some posts about it....you have to "die" in order to end the challenge; if you use one of the terminals to end it instead the result won't be recorded.

thanks Mel. Two minutes certainly sounds more playable. The hunt though, even when I'm moving I don't see the buggers.

Oh, another thing about Pinnacle Station that straykat 's comment made me think of: if you leave before finishing all the trials and come back later, the high scores will have changed and you might not be the leader anymore. Meaning, you will have to do them over again and will need an even higher score. Better to do the whole thing in one trip, even if you don't do it all in one play session. Just save your game with Shepard hanging out in the lobby or something and pick it up again next time.
Edit: and now the comment I was referring to is gone.

I played default state ME3 and Garrus wasn't dead. I think default Shep recruits everyone in 2 but doesn't do any loyalty missions or upgrades.
Wreav will be in charge and eve will always die which means, if you choose, Mordin will live if genohage is sabotaged Jacob will be in the game and will live if rescuing the ex-Cerberus scientists mission is completed Prangley will always die on grissom since Jack is not in the game Miranda will always die the collector base will be destroyed so if deciding to do a low ems playthrough, below 1750, destroy will be the only option or refuse if you want the salarian councilor will die Tali will be exiled and not an admiral Geth vi replaces Legion cannot make peace between Geth and Quarians. Tali will die if picking Geth the council will not be the ones from ME1 only characters that are romancable are Samantha(femshep only), Steve(maleshep only), Liara(both maleshep and femshep), Ashley(maleshep only) and Kaidan(both maleshep and femshep). Can have a fling with Allers if on the ship Ashley/Kaidan can be killed during the coup Everyone can die on the beam run if ems is below 2000 edi reveals, on Chronos, that Shepard's body was recovered by Cerberus in a default playthrough. Of course when importing from ME2, Liara tells Shepard that she gave his/her body to Cerberus No loyalty missions are completed Miranda, Jacob and Mordin are the only squadmates in ME3,. Not counting Garrus and Tali

The State of the Galaxy though is unchanged, despite my endeavours, it's stuck at 50% and below weak. Oh, well.
They've slightly changed this. If you go to n7hq.masseffect.com/galaxy_at_war you have go on "missons" that change your galactic readiness without having to play MP. Reality is that anytime I've tried to access MP it was unavailable or there were no other players. It's been a while so I don't remember the details but I gave up.

thanks iM3gtr and rascoth. It's not a glitch. This is probably a geth mission, IIRC. The time counter goes up whenever you make a kill. You have very little time to make the first kill but once you do it's not hard to keep going. It's just that first one that's difficult. I've played Pinnacle a time or two but haven't found it worthwhile overall. It doesn't impact the story (at least with Armax Arena you can get some new armor and it has Jack ask you to go into battle with her) and it's kind of annoying. If the apartment you won carried over - well, imagine if "rogue" Shepard in ME2 used that place as a safe house of some sort? Heck, even if it showed in ME3. But, no, it's nowhere to be found ever again. The time investment just makes it not worthwhile to me.

ah well then. I might just give it a miss and headcanon giving that smug Turian a smack in the face with his own hand. Thank you. Also if anyone knows how much (if at all) Conatix was hand-in-glove with the Alliance can you let me know? Thanks.

Jonathan Shepard (ME3):
1. The Apartment and Silversun Strip - Kaidan made dinner and we burned off some calories afterward. I fought Jacob in Shattered Eezo. He whined when I won. Had a run at Armax Arsenal Arena. It was fun. "Rain check" with Traynor, which translated into letting her use my hot tub. Held a memorial service for Thane. Kolyat told me about messages Thane tried to send me while I was locked up on Earth. I think he's the only one of my former crew who made that effort. Met Jack at Armax and we had fun taking on Cerberus troops. Made a call to Mom. People watching with Samara. Jack visited with her pet varren, Eezo. Cortez and James came over to watch a game. They had me pick the winner. Apparently you never bet against me because I have magic. Or something. Met Miranda for drinks at Silver Coast Casino. While waiting, I heard Joker tell one heck of a story. "It's joking time" and "the island of Dr. me" were things I heard. As for Miranda, get a few drinks in her, and she starts to relax. She even laughed. And I ran into Kasumi. She was playing Robin Hood. I let her. Finally, last night of Shore Leave, and we had that party. Everyone who survived from SR-1 and SR-2 was there. It was a great night. Woke up next to Kaidan in the morning. It felt like the end of something. It was time to face the Illusive Man.
2. Normandy - Hackett and I talked. The Crucible was finished except for the Catalyst. We were as ready as possible. Now it was time to head to Cronos Station. Kaidan paid me a visit in my cabin. I didn't want the distraction but he brought whiskey. But he had more than that in mind and I'm glad he came. Would have drove myself nuts crunching numbers. I did have a nightmare again, this time with my clone in it.
3. Cronos Station - This is it. Kaidan and EDI with me. Can't be any other way. I'm grateful EDI insisted on coming because we would have been dead without her knowledge of Cerberus encryption. I learned more about myself. Seems I really was dead and they somehow brought me back. Also learned EDI was the rogue VI I fought on Luna in what seems a lifetime ago. And the Illusive Man managed to save that creepy skeletal human Reaper I fought on the other side of the Omega 4 relay at the Collector Base. The Illusive Man wasn't there but he communicated via hologram. Recovered the Prothean VI and learned that the Citadel itself is the key to the Crucible, that at some point it had become the thing that made it all work. Kai Leng also attacked. Still had those ridiculous shields but, in the end, he was dead. Guess that ninja crap wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
4. Earth - Had to take on a different mission. There was a Reaper who was endangering things and it had to go. In the wreckage of a shuttle I found the M-920 Cain. It had enough firepower to blow that Reaper to hell. Too bad it's limited in use. Then headed to the main encampment in London. Talked to my squadmates. Kaidan must have thought "to hell with regs" when he kissed me in front of other soldiers. I guess, at the end of the world, it's hard to care about potential fraternization charges. Javik gave me his Prothean memory shard. I suppose with my links to the beacons I'm the only one who can use it since they "read" me as Prothean. After talking to Anderson, and giving one last rally for the troops, I set off for the beam.
5. Earth II - I brought Team Earth, Kaidan and James. We made our way through London. The squad with the Thanix Missiles was taken out by a Reaper but the missiles themselves were still intact. That left it to us to deal with. We got missiles fired at the Reaper but the beam prevented them from hitting it. That meant we had to play target for all kinds of Reaper forces, plus incoming Reaper beams, while waiting for it to get further from the, er, beam. It worked, thanks to EDI. Then Anderson brought us all to the beam and we ran for it. Kaidan and James were badly injured and I called for an evac to get them out. Kaidan wouldn't have gone but I told him I loved him and walked away. Then I ran for it. Got hurt at least as bad as Kaidan but had to go on. Fought a few husks and a marauder but finally made it to the beam.
6. Citadel - The beam transported me up to it. It was a part of the Citadel I'd never seen. There were corpses everywhere and it seemed certain that the Keepers were once again under the control of the Reapers. Anderson also made it, apparently ahead of me. When I caught up with him I also came face-to-face with the Illusive Man. He had gained the power to control others, including myself and Anderson. He made me shoot my mentor. But I talked to him got him ranting, until I found the opening I needed to shoot that bastard dead. Then I opened the Citadel arms, allowing the Crucible to dock. I figured I was done and got to speak to Anderson for a few more moments before he died. Then Hackett told me the Crucible wasn't firing. I reached for the control panel but I passed out.
7. The Dream - I had some kind of dream. The kid who died on Earth was in it. He explained what the Reapers were and told me to choose how to save the galaxy. I assume I must have hit something on the panel before I passed out because the Crucible fired a beam that destroyed the Reapers and all their forces. It also damaged all Reaper tech.
8. Survival - Somehow, I survived it all. EDI was destroyed along with all Reaper tech but I made it. Unlike last time, Kaidan kept the faith that I was alive. We both retired and married.
