I sometimes head-canon Shepard being offered a promotion post-Destroy ending and telling the brass to get stuffed right before tendering her resignation.
This is actually kind of an idea I had in my head for a while of how the trilogy should have ended. Shepard is lying in a hospital bed, possibly with a love interest at bedside (if you had one). Then Hackett comes in, congratulates you on a job well done, then offers you a promotion. The promotion means you will no longer be fighting in active combat situations. You then have three options: 1. Take the promotion 2. Decline the promotion and retire 3. Reject the promotion because you want to keep your current rank
Or option 4: accept the promotion, then retire

Played a bit of ME3 today. Jack Shepard escaped house arrest with a new haircut and a full scruff. Figured he was too worried about the Reapers to shave. Met up with Ash, who looked way better than he did and had finally risen up in rank. But before they could catch up the Reapers came and crashed the party. After some glorious tech combo kills, Jack was forcibly reinstated in the military and sent to Mars. Which Jack was fine with. Mars went well, even if it was a bit tense. Then Eva and TIM happened and it was off to the Citadel.
After making sure Ash would make it and recruiting Chakwas onto the Normandy it was time to meet the Council. As Ashley had foretold, they told Shepard that humanity was the dog, the Reapers were the bear and now the dogs would get mauled while their masters ran to safety. They were a bit more tactful, but the meaning was the same. Later the turian Councillor came back to point at a small fox hole in which the dog might find allies, but it felt like a pointless gesture. But it was something to do. On his way to the Normandy, Jack had a chat with Miss Al-Jilani and encouraged her to keep barking at the council.
The mission on Menae went as well as it could go and Jack escaped with Victus and Garrus on board. The proverbial foxes were willing to help, only if they were backed up by Honey Badgers. Since the metaphor was going south quickly, Jack did a tour around the ship and learned that EDI now occupied another mobile platform. At her request Jack took it on a test drive at Grissom Academy, accompanied by Liara. The test run went well and Jack did not die like ten times because he kept grabbing the grenades that the Cerberus troops kept tossing at him. But even if it totally went well, lady Jack still punched him on the nose, then kissed him on the lips, to the standing ovation of her students.
After escorting the kids to safety via the Cerberus school bus, it was time to hit the Citadel again. Jack stopped by the hospital to check on Ash and reaffirm that they broke up on Horizon. They then had a friendly chat and Jack gave her something to read. During the visit he also met up with Thane, who seemed fine for a dying drell. On the way back to the Normandy Jack met up with Miranda and recruited Allers. Next on Jack's agenda will either be the summit or some side missions. Hopefully less rambly.

I've started clearing the Sidequests before the second wave of Recruitment Missions in ME2, and was playing the Normandy Crash Site for the first time. Actually feel sad I've slept in today after an exciting MP run, and won't get to finish it till tomorrow. Too long to wait!
Huge props to Bio for making the most emotionally charged quest from collecting 20 pieces of something in the video-gaming history of me. The set-up reminds me of both Ziost and Hoth in SWTOR... and it's another thing I like seeing these creative parallels.

So my HDD died last night so now I'm getting my daily Mass Effect fix from my 360 again. I'll get a new drive on Friday but until then it's back to the original game on my Xbox. I am also currently playing through ME3 on my 360, the first time with all D.L.C. installed so I'll be posting my adventures from those two games. In the original ME I had started a female Shepard who is a ruthless spacer in the solider class. And funnily enough I was at almost the exact same bit as when I last played it on my PC, in the Artemis Tau region looking for Liara. So instead of exploring the other systems I went straight to Knossos as I knew she was there. I took Garrus and Tali as my squad as I was planning on going for the complete the majority of the game with those two characters achievement. Anyway, landed on Therum and made my way along the planet in the Mako, taking out some Geth ground troops and some heavier stuff too. Everything was going fine until I came across the point where you have to abandon the Mako (I read somewhere that you can actually get it through that gap. Is that true?) and was reminded of having to deal with a Geth Armature on foot, which I failed at like 6 times in a row last time I was at that bit on another playthrough. But when I reached that point it was actually pretty easy as I had my squad concentrate their powers on the ground troops whilst I hid behind something and threw a couple of grenades at the Armature. It wasn't long until all the ground troops were dealt with and none of my squad had died although Garrus was very close to deal. So we all took cover behind some container thing and I restored all our health. Now we were ready to deal with this Geth monstrosity! I have to say it was over very quickly, with a combination of our powers and ammo mods we managed to take it down pretty easily So then we headed into the ruins for Liara and after some dealing with Geth Drones and various other Geth nasties we blasted through to her using a mining laser that was conveniently placed and still worked, as Liara was trapped in some Prothean force field thing. So we're ready to get back to the surface and call for the Normandy when we're ambushed by some Krogan headcase and his Geth minions. I died the first time due to the fact that I totally forgotten about this sequence so it caught me by surprise and I had no tactics in mind, I just ran around mental firing at people randomly. After reloading the last save I managed to kill them all but only just, Garrus had fallen and Tali was on her last legs just as I managed to take out the last Geth tropper. This encounter has led me to change my mind about which people will make up my squad for the majority of the game. I think I'll now go with Tali and Wrex in my team. Wrex with his biotics and assault rifle skills and Tali with her tech abilities should see me okay as I'm doing the solider class. So anyway, after narrowly escaping that ambush we just made it out of the ruins as they were collapsing around us big time. We made it back to the Normandy and after a debriefing with all the main characters present I went to the bridge to speak to some people. Navigator Pressly seemed concerned about the presence of more aliens on our ship, as did Chief Williams, but I assured them everything will be fine and that I am in charge and not to worry. So now I think I'm going to do some exploring and some side missions and some levelling up and leave the main story for a bit. For a game that's almost 10 years old it's still utterly captivating. And it's not like I've played through the game once or twice, this FemShep run must be my 10th playthrough at least!

boabykenobi - it is a curious coincidence that both of your characters were in the same part of the story. And, yes, I think they did nail the re-playability in ME amazingly, in fact they did it so well, that I can't imagine playing it only once.

Well, I finally did it. After years of hearing how great Mass Effect 2 is and being nudged, poked, and prodded towards playing it-- I started it. I finished Mass Effect 1 last month, but as I don't have a 360 anymore I had to wait for the rest of the trilogy to become backwards compatible. Luckily for me I didn't have to wait long (I was very letdown when I tried firing up ME2 for the first time and found out it wasn't backwards compatible yet)!
Why had I not played the series before? For a few reasons, namely that I'm a finicky b*stard when it comes to video games the general one being that I'm not a big fan of Sci-Fi (I love fantasy though!). I'm not fond of the idea of being out in space-- it freaks me out for the same reasons I don't like the open ocean, especially at night. I'm not a fan of shooters, or guns and technology over swords and magic in general. I prefer ye olden days to THE FUTURE and mythical beings to aliens. Plus, I'm super spoiled for the whole Mass Effect series. So, with all that said, Mass Effect didn't really catch my fancy, even if it was by the developers that created my beloved Dragon Age. But I did eventually buy the trilogy, because peer pressure, and the first one was enjoyable. I liked it. It rates among the Arkham games, Bioshock, and Bethesda's Fallouts for me. I might consider playing it again one day. I started Mass Effect 2 last night knowing it's the golden child, but assuming it wouldn't be that different of an experience for me when I played it. Right. Assumptions.
That opening scene taught me a lesson in making assumptions. Interjection, that was awesome! I'm not one to take much notice of things such as cinematography and the other subtle ways creators add to a scene, but wooow, that was awesome. I felt like I was a character in a movie and I hadn't even started playing yet! Color me impressed, BioWare. You, and other games have given me the epic moment shivers and edge of the seat excitement (or just standing up jumping excitement) before, but never at the beginning of the fricking game! That's usually reserved for climax of the story moments! Or fighting dragons! When Shepard was struggling out in space, I had trouble catching my breath.
It was awesome.
I played a few hours, only getting off after I retrieved bad*ss Garrus and taking him into the plague zone (whaat, I would have loaded the game if it hurt him!) to retrieve my three year old nephew with a mad scientist's intelligence Mordin. My stray thoughts are as follows:
-Woaaaah, the character creator actually brought over my ME1 character. I thought I'd have to recreate her from memory! Why the heck did I have to recreate Hawke!?
-Ew, the eyes... okay, they wouldn't be that bad if it wasn't for the fact that other humans get nice normal eyes. *As Miranda gazes down at barely conscious Shepard* Me: I want your eyes...
-Ahhhh, it's a shooter!
-This combat change is almost as shocking as Origins to DA2!
-Shepard, you say shooting Wilson like Miranda did was wrong, but she gives her excuses and you drop it. And then you say you can't leave until you look for survivors, but Miranda says, and Jacob agrees, that you matter most, and you just leave. Who cares what Miranda says, well except for the you mattering most, because so true, but other than that, why are you listening to the shady femme fatale!?
-Oh they did not just bring up Ashley!
-Oh, Cerberus did a creepy Capital thing and messed with her breast size while she was under. *Tries on casual clothing* Nope, it was just the armor... well, okay then. No, Iron Bull compliments for you.
-Armor coloring is fuuuun! Shepard you look so colorful!! And also super ridiculous, you're gonna get targeted in battle.
-Illusive Man, I don't trust you at all and I think working with you is a terri-- oh, it's Joker! Hey, Joker! You got Shepard killed, but I'll definitely forgive that because it's good to see a familiar face! I don't know about this Cerberus thing though, maybe we should-- woaaaaaaah, is that my ship!!!!??!!!?!!!
-This is my ship Edi, don't tell me I don't have access to a place! I demand entry!
-Miranda is in my room! Where's my room!? *goes to Captain's quarters* Yesssssss
-Ha. Joker made a funny. Ship cancer *laughs* haha, I also don't like ship AIs (DIE HAL and Wall•E's Hal and all others of your ilk! You can't tell mother nuggin' Shepard what bathroom she should be in!!!), let's hate her together! Oh but guess what. I know a spoiler and youuuu! Way to not stay committed to your cause!
-If I playing a less pristine, boy scout Shepard she'd be crushing on Aria hard because I definitely might be myself. Shepard: I might be back later Aria: I might be here It's love I tell you! (That was a memory quote by the way, not direct)
-Garrus! This would have been so much better of I didn't know it was going to be you. I retrospectively curse you spoilers!
-Bullets!!! Why doth you harm me so! (I died lots on Garrus's quest during the second mercenary group's attack)
-Maybe I shouldn't take Garrus into the plague area. My Shepard wouldn't, so it's just my metagaming... ohh, but I want to see if something will happen!
-See, Garrus, you're fine. Mordin fixed you. Turians are so dramatic. I bet you weren't even feeling hot!
-Wow, Mordin, when I heard about you before, and that you were written by the same person who wrote Solas, I imagined you cool and collected, maybe arrogant... not a dozen enegry drinks in.
-I work tomorrow and really need to go to sleep! *goes and talks to everyone again* Okay, now!

Everything was going fine until I came across the point where you have to abandon the Mako (I read somewhere that you can actually get it through that gap. Is that true?) Yes it is true, although I have never done it myself. Video evidence here. I should note that you do earn 50% less XP if you kill in the Mako, although admittedly it does not make that much of a difference by the end game. Assuming you have at least Bring Down the Sky DLC, with all XP bonuses you can get around level 53-54 when killing in the Mako versus 57-58 if you do not.

I do try to kill most things on foot for the extra experience. Tried to snipe some enemies from a hill tonight on another planet but my sniper skills are at zero so I just rolled down the hill in the Mako and exited and killed them with ease. I have got the reach level 50 Achievement so I'll need to use that character and go for the level 60 award some day.

And, yes, I think they did nail the re-playability in ME amazingly, in fact they did it so well, that I can't imagine playing it only once. The depth of the original game is just staggering. I'm still finding out new things about it. Like I found some Prothean pyramid on a playthrough a while back and had no idea what it was all about. Then I received some trinket from the Consort at the Citadel which was to be used with the pyramid to unlock something I honestly cant remember what it turned out to be but the game is just epic. It did say it on the front of the case: Genuine Epic Gaming. I never realised how true that statement was until about 10 hours into my 1st playthrough. 10 hours straight mind you. Obviously I was going to the toilet and drinking diluting juice and I may even have had a snack, cant remember, but I played it for 10 hours with very little, if any at all, rest during that time. I was completely hooked. I will never again get that feeling of playing the game for the first time again obviously, you know, when you just don't know what's coming next, but it's amazing to me how much I still enjoy going through these games, especially the original. I still come across things for the first time. It's minor stuff but still...

I had quite an adventure earlier in Mass Effect. Haven't sat down and chilled out to play a game like that for ages.
ME1 FemShep Spacer Ruthless Soldier
It all started when I visited the Citadel tonight to inform Admiral Kahoku that I found his dead marines in the Sparta System. Where, incidentally, a Thresher Maw almost killed me. Presumably the same Thresher Maw that killed the marines. A reporter approached me at C-SEC sniffing about for gossip but I told her to get stuffed and she did not seem amused at all. Admiral Kahoku didn’t seem amused either when I told him what happened to his marines but that was understandable.
I then went to see the C-SEC Requisitions Officer hoping to get some juicy items but I had less than 10K in funds to barter with so it was back to the Normandy to explore the galaxy again. In the elevator up to the Normandy I heard an announcement about a missing survey team somewhere but I didn’t catch exactly where but then again that’s what the journal is for. So I’m back on the Normandy about to set off to check out these missing surveyors when Kahoku messages me to tell me about a group called Cerberus who is up to no good. He thinks Cerberus is responsible for setting up the fake distress signal that his marines were lured to and obliterated by the Thresher Maw that I managed to take down.
He gave me some coordinates of somewhere he thinks Cerberus has a base, somewhere in the Voyager Cluster which I’ll check out next.
So I head off to the Hades Gamma Cluster and land on the modestly terrestrial planet of Trebin in the Antaeus System, looking for this missing survey team. After landing on Trebin I travelled to some debris where I encountered some scavengers and dealt with them on foot for certain achievements and experience. I next came across a transmitter which told me when I touched it that it disrupted the survey team’s satellites and caused them to crash nearby. I’m not sure if this was caused by me or that the transmitter was causing that to happen. I’m assuming the latter as there was no option not to disable it. Next up I head to a research base where I discover that the missing survey team members have been turned into Husks, similar to the fate of some of the people on Eden Prime. Why this is occurring on this particular planet is intriguing to me but I’ll need to make a note in my diary to find out more about this later. I have no choice but to kill all the survey team, well actually I suppose I did, I could have just ran away, but I eliminated them all which I think was the right thing to do rather than they go on as the monstrosities that they’ve become. Plus it gives me some experience and a few more steps closer to certain achievements. I find a couple of cool items in the base then depart for the last thing on the map, an anomaly. Just as I’m approaching this anomaly a Thresher Maw surfaces and I kill it very easily in the Mako by pretty much staying in the one spot the whole time and jumping when necessary. After that I found a Turian Insignia before returning to the Normandy to rest and replenish Medi-gel etc.
It’s off to the Voyager Cluster next to see what this “Cerberus” is up to.
So on arriving at the Voyager Cluster I landed on an apparently “unpleasant and uninteresting” planet called Binthu in the Yangtze System. Discovered a crashed probe and then I came across an outpost that had turrets firing missiles at me so I took out the turrets with the Mako and went to investigate the building the turrets were protecting when I noticed a pyramid so after making sure there were no more turrets or troops and it was safe to exit the Mako I checked out the pyramid structure which turned out to be a Prothean Pyramid containing Prothean Data Discs but nothing else of much interest. It would have been nice to have found some unique Prothean weapon/armour mods or something. So I enter the base the turrets were guarding and come across a large square room with a force field containing what I think is a Rachni Warrior. Turns out there are also some Cerberus troops and research technicians in here looking to end me and my team so we have no option but to wipe them out. All of them.
There looks to be two more Cerberus bases on this planet so I head to the second one of my choosing, the bottom one on the right of the map I think it was. Anyway get there and there are more Cerberus troopers and tech guys so again they leave me no choice. They attack me on sight and it’s either them or me. In this second base there is another force field containing Thorian Creepers. These bases also have some decent items in them, at least two contained decent-ish omni-tools and biotic amps for Tali and Wrex. So now it’s time to head to the final base and hopefully find out what’s what. Upon arrival at the location we deal with the turrets easily using the Mako and enter the base. Yet again we face more Cerberus troops and technicians. Some of these particular Cerberus troops were trickier to deal with than those at the other bases but in the end we prevailed. This time in the containment field were some Rachni Workers and the body of someone. After decimating the couple of rachni we discover the the body is Admiral Kahoku with Wrex remarking that he guesses “Cerberus found him” whatever that means?
So we return to the Normandy and discover Cerberus is conducting illegal research in genetics regarding something about an unstoppable army? Since I found Kahoku dead at one of their bases I am the only one who can stop them. I’ve found the location of a major Cerberus facility. The location is in this same Cluster, a planet called Nepheron in the Columbia System. So I head over to Columbia and land on a planet called Nepheron which is described as featuring many displays of "geological beauty" including "spectacular volcanoes", but to be honest I found the planet be a bit dull, or maybe I was too focused on this quest to notice its beauty. So anyway I found some Thorium mineral and a mummified Salarian and I was heading across to check some debris when I was fired upon from those Cerberus pests. I exited the Mako and though about taking down some troops with a sniper rifle before realising that I haven't put any points into my sniper rifle stats so abandoned that idea and jumped in the Mako and rolled down and got up close and personal with these clowns. Tali’s tech abilities and Wrex’s biotic powers are proving to be a good combination and we pretty much obliterated the troops. And since I was feeling unstoppable now at this point we entered the base. We encountered the usual Cerberus Commandos & Snipers, and there was a pretty engaging battle in the main area of the complex. A few times we had to retreat to allow our powers to cool down. Certainly the trickiest battle so far. Picked up a couple of decent assault rifles and a pistol in the main area. Ended up discovering a terminal in the final section of the base. The files on the terminal were encrypted but I had enough time to crack them. Who knows what they’ll lead to?
According to the UNC Summary I have "shut down a major Cerberus base and ended their sinister experiments" and I also "avenged Admiral Kahoku" and "removed a danger that could have threatened the galaxy".
If only they knew what was coming, right?

I finished my ME2 playthrough yesterday, and began a new import for ME3. I've been playing a full paragon Shep for the first time in forever, and the reputation bar has been so easy to fill. So that's cool. On the other hand, this means I have to actually be nice to people.
I don't think I can take being extra chummy to Liara for much longer.

Kim Shepard went looking for Leviathan.
First, she tried getting help from Dr Garneau. That turned out to be a dead end.
Then she asked Ann Bryson for help. Ann helped her locate Leviathan.
Finally, Kim went deep sea diving and managed to speak with Leviathan. Or Leviathans, actually. They agreed to help with the war.
* * *
Kim, Jen, Jackie, and Erin are now all ready to meet with the Quarians, although Kim may take a quick trip to Omega first, just for old time's sake.

boabykenobi - it is a curious coincidence that both of your characters were in the same part of the story. And, yes, I think they did nail the re-playability in ME amazingly, in fact they did it so well, that I can't imagine playing it only once. The trinket from the Consort isn't used with a pyramid. I think the pyramids have things like asari matriarch writings. Maybe she made a link between the asari and protheans that no one else had up to that point? In any case, the trinket is used on a prothean sphere. This would tie into Javik knowing about humans in ME3 though there's nothing is explicitly mentioned relating to the sphere. It does seem like something Shepard would have brought up assuming the trinket/sphere event happened. But, yeah, there's always new things to explore, especially as I make different choices throughout the trilogy.

Soldier FemShep, cont'd:
Still in the Horsehead Nebula, Shepard ordered the Normandy to the Strenuus System. A man named Garoth had told Shepard that his brother's freighter, the MSV Majesty, had gone missing in the area and he worried that it had fallen victim to privateers. Scans detected the Majesty near the planet Xawin, but it was deserted and had clearly been hit by mass accelerator fire. It appeared Garoth's fears were justified.
Shepard took a ground team of Tali and Liara to Xawin to investigate, on the off chance that the attackers were hiding there - perhaps they had taken some of the crew alive. What they found didn't give them much hope. First, they discovered the body of an explorer who had been killed while attempting to survey a mineral deposit. Then, they found an deserted camp. The generator was still operational, and the camp's computer highlighted areas of interest on the map worth checking out, but there was no sign of anyone. It wasn't looking good.
One of the anomalies the computer suggested turned out to be a geth ambush, which probably explained what happened to the explorers. Unlike the defenseless prospectors, however, Shepard had the Mako, and made short work of the 4 geth armatures.
The ground team explored further, and came across a hideout guarded by mercs and defense turrets - they had found the privateers that had attacked the Majesty. Shepard and her squad took out the mercs, but unfortunately no one from the Majesty had survived; they found the body of Captain Willem, Garoth's brother, inside the base. More sad news to deliver back at the Citadel, it seemed.

Kim Shepard procrastinated on meeting the Quarian Admirals for a little longer, electing instead to visit Omega and do some shopping. Harrot's shop was all out of stock, unfortunately (because NG++). She took out her aggression on the Cerberus occupiers instead.
In the end, Aria decided to let Petrovsky live. Kim, however, did not and blew his lying head off.

Miriam Shepard recruited Tali... Went to Nos Astra's business district with the intention of purchasing star charts. Happened to meet Shiala from Zhu's Hope. Colony in trouble; colonists suffering from medical conditions resulting from Thorian exposure, and disadvantaged by lopsided medical contract. Spoke with representative from medical corporation, a grieving asari using her position to lash out at human colonists. Helped her to see reason. Zhu's Hope should be able to thrive now. Purchased star charts. Took Normandy to Shrike Abyssal, located Blood Pack weapons manufacturing facility while exploring Xe Cha system. Investigated facility with Jacob and Mordin, neutralized vorcha troops and crime boss Kalusk. Destroyed facility by detonating power source. Fabricated M-920 Cain "nuke gun" in Normandy's tech lab. Took Miranda and Thane to Haestrom in geth space to make contact with Tali'Zorah. Found quarian science outpost overrun by geth troops. Distressed to watch quarian marine company slaughtered by geth; as an endangered people, every loss hits them hard. Fought through waves of geth infantry to the observatory where Tali'Zorah was based. Route to observatory blocked by geth colossus with self-repair protocol. Encountered wounded quarian marine commander Jayne'Cobb John'Casey Kal'Reegar, persuaded him to stand down rather than risking his life further. Dealt with geth infantry. Used conventional weapons to reduce colossus shield strength to approximately 40%, then destroyed colossus using M-920 Cain before repair protocol activated. Recovered intact geth pulse rifle. Will evaluate performance on next mission. Made contact with Tali'Zorah, delighted to renew friendship and welcome her aboard the Normandy. Kal'Reegar returned to Migrant Fleet with data from observatory. [Tali's recruitment drove everything in this post. I wanted the Cain to take down the colossus, but needed another heavy weapon upgrade in order to unlock it. I checked the Mass Effect wiki for a mission that would provide one; in order to get to the Blood Pack base, I needed a star chart, which meant going to Nos Astra and doing Shiala's sidequest. The early fights against the geth infantry were really fun, about 60-40 between long-range cautious fighting and close-range vanguarding. I bum-rushed the first Prime, that was fun The colossus gave me a bit of trouble. In my first playthrough, on Normal difficulty, I took the left-hand route and was able to get close enough to the colossus to whittle it down without its self-repair activating. On Hardcore, I tried the left-hand route a few times but just got overwhelmed by infantry, I was never able to get close enough to the colossus to prevent them from spawning. Eventually, I took a route down the middle and took cover behind a crate just on the right, forward enough to stop the infantry from spawning. That's not close enough to the colossus to prevent its self-repair, but after a couple of tries I found that I could take its shields down to a bit below half without triggering the repair, and that was low enough for the Cain to kill it. Then I reloaded my save and did it a couple more times to prove to myself that it wasn't a fluke ]

It's even easier to take the Renegade route, let Kal'Reegar keep shooting at it, and stay in that location. He drops its shields to 40%-ish fairly quickly, it's an easy shot with the Cain from there, and the battle is over so quickly that he doesn't die. Then there are just a few stragglers to mop up. Easy I didn't save after winning, my original victory stands for this playthrough. Worth remembering if I ever do another playthrough though.

Hmm....Had a chat with Leviathan. Killed that walking cliche Kai Leng....Before racing off to Earth, telling the Asari to stick her mind-melding crap and Killing the Reapers. Which I actually feel kind of bad about, since I happen to like Harbinger.

Miriam Shepard recruited a Jedi Knight justicar... Returned to Nos Astra, encountered Gianna Parasini, who took down the corrupt administrator on Noveria two years ago. Helped her perform a sting on an asari smuggler. Got a free beer in return. Met an asari-krogan couple who were having problems. Spoke to the asari and encouraged her to make up with him. Learned from Nos Astra security that the justicar Samara had been seen at the commercial spaceport. Hailed a taxi to the spaceport, took Jack and Kasumi along. Encountered the volus merchant Pitne For, in trouble with the Eclipse syndicate for selling biotic-enhancing drugs with toxic side-effects. His partner had been murdered in a back alley. Spoke with the detective in charge of the investigation; learned that Samara was on the scene, interrogating Eclipse mercs. Turned out to be a coincidence, Eclipse had recently trafficked an asari fugitive whom Samara was chasing down. Agreed to infiltrate the Eclipse base and find information in exchange for Samara's help with the Collectors. Happened upon evidence that someone was swindling a Mr Thax. Forwarded the evidence to him. Entered Eclipse base, met with moderate resistance from mechs, soldiers, vanguards and a gunship; mercs seemed somewhat more competent than those in Dantius' HQ. Progress impeded by leaking containers of Pitne For's product causing toxic hazard. Encountered Elnora, apparently an Eclipse rookie having second thoughts. Let her go in exchange for information about Samara's fugitive. Subsequently found evidence that she was in fact guilty of murdering Pitne For's partner. Forwarded evidence to local police. Encountered Niftu Cal, a volus adept whom Eclipse had overdosed with Pitne For's product. Out of his mind, he seemed intent on taking down Wasea, the local Eclipse boss. Convinced him to back down and take a nap, to Jack's disgust. Confronted and killed Wasea. Obtained the name of the ship that transported Samara's target. Returned to the Normandy with Samara. Geth pulse rifle proved disappointingly inferior to Vindicator and Mattock rifles. Also acquired Scimitar assault shotgun; found it markedly inferior to geth plasma shotgun. [I was considering skipping Samara on this playthrough but decided to play the mission largely for Niftu Cal, he's funny During my first playthrough, I found the gunship a lot harder than the showdown with Wasea; this time, it was the other way round. Samara will be equipped with a Mattock as a nod to how I play the justicar in ME3MP.]

Kim, Jen, and Jackie Shepard met with the Quarians.
Erin searched for Dr. Garneau at a mining facility before discovering his dead body. Then she met with the Quarian Admirals.
Jackie infiltrated a Geth Dreadnaught, and then with Legion's help, shut it down. The Quarians then destroyed the Dreadnaught. Next, Jackie went into the Geth concensus to stop Geth fighters from attacking Quarian liveships. Then she went and rescued Admiral Korris. And then finally, she went to a Geth base to destroy the Reaper signal, and ended up destroying a Reaper Destroyer with some a lot of help from the Quarian fleet.

John Shepard: (full of spoilers)
Normandy SR-2: Convinced Steve to take a break so he doesn't burn out or have another breakdown. Mordin told me that saving Maelon's genophage cure data is the thing that's going to keep "Eve" (the nickname for the nameless krogan female) alive.
Planet Scanning: Found more fuel and the Shadow Broker Wet Squad.
Tuchanka: Traynor did more of her magic and found Cerberus presence on Tuchanka. I decided to keep this low key and brought James and EDI with me rather than some who might have a more personal stake. They had taken over an ancient ground-to-air cannon. Despite its age, it would have seriously hurt the krogan. Managed to turn it against Cerberus and use the cannon to our advantage.
Since I was already here, I decided to rescue the downed turian ship. I knew Garrus would insist on coming along so didn't bother fighting it. I also took Liara for old time's sake. Turns out the commanding officer was the Primarch's son. Nothing is ever easy. One of the first things we had to do was take out a Harvester. Four of them, actually. Lt. Victus made a bad call that got a lot of his squad killed. They were there to take care of a bomb that Cerberus had gotten control of. Victus was going to abandon the mission but I told him it wasn't an option. His men hated him but he convinced them to follow his lead.
Normandy SR-2: Primarch Victus was hiding something. He knew about the bomb but still won't say how. Meanwhile, Mordin came through with his cure but needed a way to transmit it quickly. It occurred to him that the Shroud on Tuchanka, which the turians originally used to spread the genophage, was the best option. It still had the original strain of the genophage within, which would likely help with the cure. Unfortunately, I still had to deal with that damn bomb before administering the cure.
Tuchanka: On the ride down, Lt. Victus put everything into perspective. The bomb was turian and had been placed on Tuchanka centuries ago. Now that the turians were seeking krogan aid, Primarch Victus decided that they should secretly extract the bomb to avoid it ever going off. Cerberus somehow found out about it and thus this mess. It seems likely that Cerberus wanted to plant this bomb to ruin any alliance between the turians and krogan. Once Cerberus started backing out it was obvious the bomb had been programmed to detonate. Lt. Victus went about defusing the bomb while James, Garrus and I protected him. In the end, time was running out and the process killed the lieutenant. However, the bomb would not detonate.
Normandy SR-2: I was ordered by Hackett to maintain peace between the turians and the krogan at any cost. I felt like a father chastising his two bickering sons when Wrex and Victus were arguing. I told Wrex he would have done the same thing as the turians and that the Primarch's son sacrificed his life to stop the bomb. Wrex backed down but, to his credit, Victus acknowledged he and his people were in the wrong.
Benning: Side mission, but important. Ambassador Osaba had been asking for information on his son, who had gone missing on Benning. Now Cerberus was attacking. There had to be a link so I decided to check it out. Cerberus denies responsibility but who knows what might have happened with them turning their soldiers partially into husks? In any case, EDI, James and I shut them down. Also recovered the dog tags of the ambassador's son.
Normandy SR-2: Liara wanted to see me in my cabin. She had created a record of the galaxy, her own version of a prothean beacon, and wanted input on the entry on me. I let her decide what to put. She made me out to be larger than life. Not sure I'd have gone that route but I can't help wonder if that's how the galaxy sees me. James seemed to think so when he asked me to buy drinks for some marines in Purgatory.
Citadel: Met briefly with Aria to discuss her plans to retake Omega with my help. Not how I want to spend my day, especially since she doesn't trust any of my crew, just me. She did offer ships, mercs and eezo in return so I wasn't about so say no. Just not yet.
Met with Steve at the Normandy docks. We shot the shit for a bit while watching the ships come in. He wished he'd died with his husband but I reminded him that he was hope for the survival of the galaxy. He talked about putting something on the refugee memorial but was undecided.
Tuchanka: Just as we were about to leave for Tuchanka, the Dalatrass contacted me. She told me to sabotage the genophage cure in exchange for salarian scientists helping with the Crucible. I don't know why she thought I'd stab a friend - maybe two friends, if we're talking Eve - in the back. Hell, she even suggested I take care of Mordin to make it happen. No way, no how. I don't know what the krogan might become but Wiks had it right when he said they might play a role in the galaxy someday that we could never guess. No, the genophage is too brutal to continue. I stopped cures from happening twice now - on Virmire and on Tuchanka with Maelon. Maybe the fact that this issue keeps popping up is sign enough that it's meant to happen.
I decided trust was a major factor here with Wrex. That meant bringing Liara in particular, but also Garrus, since Wrex had worked with them on board the original Normandy. I revealed the Dalatrass's offer. Mordin said he could deal with it since he knew of it. Liara, Garrus and I were forced to take an alternate path through the long abandoned City of the Ancients. We saw artwork on the walls that suggested the krogan were once something greater than they were today. Also said to live in the region is Kalros, the mother of all thresher maws. Based on the art depicted on the walls, not only is kalros as old as this ancient city, but she's also larger than all the thresher maws that killed my squad on Akuze combined. Even if I had the Mako with me it wouldn't be enough to take in this thing. Also found a dead rachni, modified in some way. The look of it suggested Reaper tech. Wrex confirmed he'd also encountered them, which confirmed his suspicions regarding some missing krogan scouts I've yet to investigate.
Once we got close to the Shroud we had to figure out how to get past the Reaper that was there poisoning the atmosphere. It turned out there were these hammers that could summon Kalros. I just had to activate them. Then Wrex did something surprising. He told me that for my actions as long as he's known me that from that day forward the name "Shepard" would mean "hero" on Tuchanka. I was honored.
It was rough but we made it through. Wouldn't have been possible without a turian fighter squad distracting the Reaper. Kalros showed up and went toe to toe with that Reaper, destroying it in the process. At the Shroud, Mordin said that to counter prior STG sabotage he had to go into the tower. However, it was overheating and he wouldn't we coming back. I know people call look up to me but this man sacrificed his life to save an entire race, and not his own. That's a hero in my book.
Wrex was moved. He said he'd name one of his children after Mordin (though he joked it would be a girl). Mordin had said Wrex and Eve were promising together and would lead to a better future for the krogan and the galaxy. Eve intended to gather the krogan that were returning to Tuchanka and not squander the opportunity they'd been given. Then she revealed her true name - Bakara - and said she was my friend.
Normandy SR-2: Primarch Victus said krogan were already on Palaven and that the turian fleet would be there for Earth when the time came. He was also sending support for the Crucible.
Had another damn nightmare. It wasn't just the burning kid but also the voices of Ash and Mordin. It's like the dead are haunting me.
The salarian councilor told me he thought Udina was dirty. Somehow, this didn't surprise me and I agreed to return to the Citadel to investigate. I never did like the guy. He had stabbed me in the back while fighting Saren, which is why I had suggested Anderson to be the first human representative on the Council. Only, Anderson chose to return to Earth when I did after I destroyed the Alpha Relay, resigning his position. Udina was the natural replacement. And now it looked like he was turning on us all once again.
Had an interview with Diana Allers about the krogan. Told her that the krogan were looking to be heroes, doing what some races wouldn't (salarians, asari), and that it was time to move forward. That got some additional krogan support.
Looked at the memorial wall. One more friend up there. Hoping it'll be the last.
