So the mini games at the Citadel. Why couldn't we play the Asari space chess that shocks you? It was the only interesting mini game. Good question. Maybe they didn't want to take the time to program chess? Although it seems like there ought to be some resource they could have purchased with the basics of chess already there, and just customized it to shock you

Since I'm not yet able to play Andromeda (need to get a new graphics card) I decided to continue my Dumbass Shepard run . Meaning: I'll deliberately choose all the worst options. I have played a "Douche Shepard" before but although he was a generally aggressive Renegade, that didn't mean he was bad at the job. Thus he didn't make choices he deemed stupid and ineffective. Like: why let this wounded person who could offer information die? Why have disloyal followers? Why recruit a freaking mass murderer (Morinth) when you have a Justicar? My Dumbass Shepard... now this'll be a different story. I'm actually dreading ME2 and the suicide mission for how much planning ahead is required in order to get the worst outcome. My goal is to get everyone killed except Morinth + someone else (since I want Shepard to survive). Gotta check out those guides.

Laura Shepard, Colonist, Sole Survivor I've done a lot in ME2 since last posting. I'm still trying to balance my MET playthrough with Andromeda, so neither is progressing as quickly as I'd like Laura tracked down Samara on Ilium where she wasn't really hidden at all, so why TIM couldn't provide her with an exact location for the Justicar is anyone's guess. I feel like both of these dialogue options are traps, but Samara is so nice about it anyway. Shepard was presented with the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet a real biotic god, so she...tipped him over. Like space cow-tipping. It's kind of like hitting the off switch. Shepard found the name of the ship that Morinth took, and so Samara pledged her loyalty to her. Justicar glow: still less impressive than a tiny, round, biotic god. Laura wouldn't be a proper paragon if she weren't also a tattle-tale occasionally. Say what you want about Jacob (I mean, I know I do) but at least he can show some respect where Miranda refuses to. Since I kept Miranda's loyalty this time, I got a conversation with her that I didn't get previously, so that was nice. She's so insecure that I almost pity her. Shepard also investigated the wreckage of a ship that was balanced so precariously on the edge of a cliff that the weight of a single woman was enough to tip it into the ravine below. This is the pose Shepard got into in order to talk to Samara after her recruitment. What the hell are you doing, Shepard? Then, it was straight off to do Jacob's loyalty mission. At the women's camp, they find a space Kindle detailing all of the terrible things Ronald Taylor did. No one is believing your bullshit, Ronald Taylor. There is a moment during the conversation with Ronald where Shepard notices some mooks approaching and tells the third squadmate (Garrus in my case, obviously) to keep an eye on them. I don't know why, but I really like that little touch. It just feels very organic, I suppose. Anyway, Ol' Ronald is off to prison, and Shepard got to be rude to TIM again. That's always fun. Saved the Patriarch's ass and made him feel good about it, like he was a great warlord again. Samara's loyalty mission was next. Shepard took Samara to talk to Nef's mother. Nef's mother appears to have some sort of hemorrhagic fever, Shepard. I wouldn't recommend direct contac... ...oh...oh sure. Ok. Go up and comfort her. That's fine. I'm sure it isn't contagious. Morinth was at the VIP area of the Afterlife, so Shepard went back to the Normandy to change into something more fun, and that's when I realized... I forgot to feed the fish.
It was too late by then. I cleaned up their little fishy corpses, and Shepard took a moment to mourn in front of her sad, empty fishtank. Still feeling rather bummed out at failing her scaly little friends, Shepard entered the bar and tried to look confidently sexy. A man near the entrance called her over to ask about band tickets and mentioned an asari who obviously had him entranced, so she learned a little bit more about her mark. Rather than dance with asari this time around, I decided to have Shepard beat up some turians. I mean, why not, right? Besides, she had to work off some of that anger over her pets' demise. It worked, because she was at Morinth's apartment a short time later. Morinth attempted her mindtricks, but because Laura is such a goody goody, I had plenty of paragon points to avoid her charms. Thane's mission is next time, and I will also stop by the Citadel for more fish and see if I can finally get Kelly to come over for petsitting dinner.

dragontartareI was so much of a paragon, the game didn't even give me the choice between Morinth and Samara, and auto chose me to help Samara. Why I was so confused about folks saying she could be a squadmate.

I loathed Miranda the first time I played, so that I romanced her only to dump her in ME3 (why yes, I'm a terrible person sometimes ). Her character since then grew on me a lot and now I really like her. I like it when she shows her vulnerable side (which she also did when dumping her), and this scene you mentioned is one I really like.

Melody Shepard, Colonist/Sole Survivor/Infiltrator, ME1 Hardcore:
Citadel: Melody went shopping to upgrade her shotgun and sniper rifle to level X Spectre models. She heard a news item about Conrad Verner's involvement in an altercation with some turians, removing himself from the gene pool in the process.
Virmire, Sentry Omega cluster: no time to admire the beautiful scenery; Melody, Liara and Kaidan took the Mako through geth-controlled territory to disable anti-aircraft guns, stopping along the way to neutralize the killbots on foot. Well, Melody did most of the neutralizing because her comrades were too busy facetanking rockets. She may also have driven the Mako into the water on one occasion, but denies all knowledge of any such mess-up.
With the AA guns offline, Melody rendezvoused with the Normandy and STG team at the salarian camp, learning that Saren had a covert facility nearby where he was breeding a krogan army.

From Hobby Link Japan! This was years ago, long before people started asking $300 for them on eBay, before Play Arts toys got a 30% price hike. I'm told they're absolute hell to get now, unfortunately. The Archangel atop my holiday tree is one of my favorite annual traditions, though. There are significantly less expensive knockoffs circulating from Chinese sellers on eBay that surfaced a few short months ago, and while I cannot attest to their quality (can't find any reviews, either), I'll say that I've been very pleased with knockoffs of other expensive toys I've bought before. I haven't bought any knockoff Play Arts figures, but I was less than impressed with their sculpt accuracy compared to the real ones. I'd advise anyone buying to be careful. Would really love it if they produced Ryder and Drack for the line.

Since I did not feel like playing Mass Effect: Andromeda last night (I still have not played it*) and it was late and I miss posting in this thread, I popped in Mass Effect 3 and loaded up some old Vanguard saves.
First Dominic took on the Geth Dreadnaught. I died a couple of times. Once when I charged and just... died. Not sure what happened. Probably due to shieldgate and healthgate being down and then getting hit with a lucky shot somewhere. The other time I died was when a Geth Prime killed me because the game would not let me charge (stupid stunlock).
Then Dominic found himself on a shipwreck with a Reaper dropping in troops. This went better until I charged blindly at a Brute and he slammed me into the ground. Whoops. I shut the game off because I was tired and needed sleep.
One of my controller shoulder buttons is not working very well, so it was causing some problems. I may have to try cleaning my controller or chuck it out.
* So I did start Mass Effect: Andromeda once. Then it froze. Not the best start to my migration away from consoles into PC gaming.

Yeah, so apparently my PC is unable to run Mass Effect: Andromeda because I am a cheap-ass when it comes to buying electronics. So it looks like I will be playing more Mass Effect 1 -3 in the future until I actually buy a gaming-ready PC.
I am an idiot. (Everybody now: "RedCaesar, you are an idiot!")

Melody Shepard, Colonist/Sole Survivor/Infiltrator, ME1 Hardcore:
Virmire, Sentry Omega cluster:
Kaidan volunteered to accompany Captain Kirrahe's salarian teams on the assault on Saren's base, so Melody assigned him to Kirrahe's command. She picked Liara and Ashley for her own squad. On their way to the base, they knocked out a geth comms tower, a satellite uplink and a refuelling facility, and disabled the base's alarms, relieving some of the pressure on Kirrahe's men.
Within the base, the party encountered the remnants of Kirrahe's vanguard: indoctrinated hostiles, and traumatized individuals in cells. Melody was unwilling to risk letting the unstable captives out of their cells, given the known consequences of indoctrination.
After fighting their way past assorted geth, husks, scientists and krogan, the party found Saren's private labs. A researcher, Rana Thanoptis explained about the indoctrination research in which she had participated. Because of her willing involvement in the research, and the likelihood that she was in the initial stages of indoctrination herself, Melody executed Rana on the spot. Within the lab, Melody found a Prothean beacon and had a chat with Sovereign, learning that it was a big, nasty machine that needed breaking.
After disabling the AA guns to allow the Normandy to land and deliver the nuke that would destroy the base, Melody took Garrus and Liara to rescue Kaidan's team, under heavy assault from geth, while Ashley armed the bomb. When the bomb site was also attacked by geth, Melody made the command decision to prioritze Kaidan and the salarians over Ashley alone.
Saren crashed the party. Despite putting on her best Intimidate face, Melody was unable to convince him that he wasn't indoctrinated. As the Normandy departed, a mortally wounded Ashley detonated the nuke.
Well, that's set me up for Kaidan as part of the crew in ME3, so that'll be new content (saved him in my first playthrough, but didn't let him rejoin the crew). Died once, on the approach to the AA tower: got sniped by a geth stalker.

I finished my ME3 playthrough I started just before MEA was released.
I painted a reaper on Rannoch. Painted it blue with yellow polka dots
Went to a chapel on Thessia. When the asari saw Javik, they bowed before him and said, "Embrace Javik"
Went to Sanctuary. Not a nice place to visit.
Had a fight with Kai Leng. I tried to convince the guy to play chess, since my skills have improved, at least that's what Traynor told me. Instead Leng wanted a fight to the death. He lost.
Look at Earth. Its sad seeing it on fire. Landed in London. It took time for me to hail cab to take me to the beam. I gave the driver a nice tip since he ran over some uglies on the way.
Here we are. Me. The Anderson guy. And the smoker. What to do? We sit at a table to play poker to decide the fate of the reapers. Long story short, I won.
I take the elevator up to.....an empty room. What's this? A note? It says if I walk to the right, I can destroy the reapers. If I walk straight ahead, nothing will happen. If I walk to the left, I will walk into an invisible wall. Ok. Is this some kind of joke? Ok. I walk to the right. I see. A bright red light appears. Then it shoots outward. My job is done.

Melody Shepard, Colonist/Sole Survivor/Infiltrator, ME1 Hardcore: Melody took some time to speak with her squad about the status of the mission and what happened on Virmire. Kaidan was taking it pretty hard, understandably. Melody advised him to honour Ashley by completing the mission and grieve later. She also accepted the condolences of the salarians who had been evacuated aboard the Normandy, pleased that they intended to honour Ashley's sacrifice. Returning to the Citadel to attend crisis talks, Melody's pleas to the Council to send the Normandy through the Mu Relay fell on deaf ears, and Udina refused to back her in order to gain the political upper hand. With the Normandy in lockdown, Melody felt the need for some retail therapy so bought herself a shiny new level X pistol and imagined drilling Udina between the eyes with it. Melody was approached by Charles Saracino, a far-right pro-human politician looking for an endorsement. She told him where to shove it; her asari and quarian companions ought to have clued him in. She was also approached by Elias Keeler, a stimulant-addicted trade negotiator, who asked her to help him get his next fix. He also turned out to be a far-right-winger (they're all crawling out of the woodwork today), unwilling to let his progressive assistant run the negotiation. Melody gave him a depressant instead to teach him a lesson. Before lapsing into unconsciousness, Elias called her "alien-loving scum". (Seriously, people; asari and quarian companions...) (Ding! "Asari Ally" achievement obtained!) Melody met with Captain Anderson who explained his plan to commit treason, lifting the lockdown to enable her to steal the Normandy and complete her mission. His preference was to use Udina's command codes, so he broke into Udina's office and lamped the guy.

I started a NG+ playthrough in ME3 with Nicole Shepard, an honorary Female Quarian Engineer (Turret, Cryo Blast, and Incinerate, with AP Ammo and the High Lord Claymore).
Nicole survived a Reaper invasion on Earth, then hoofed it to Mars. On Mars, she encountered Cerberus, ran into Liara, and stopped a crazy robot assassin from stealing Prothean data. Ashley got injured.
The council was not much help, so she went to Palaven to recruit a Turian Primarch. Well, that Primarch was dead, so she rescued another instead, with Garrus helping her along the way.
EDI got herself a robot body and can now physically help Shepard on ground missions.

In real life, I am still mad at myself for buying a PC that cannot play Mass Effect: Andromeda.

AJ's review is also out and I completely agree with the points that were brought up. MEA is a could-have-been / potential but failed at the finishing line. There're things I like about it and things I don't like. The latter outweigh the former.
MET is the ME universe that drew me in, where the chars (as the reviewer said) are true, you feel involved.

Karen Shepard, Soldier, ME2 cont'd:
Normandy
Kelly expressed surprise at Thane's spiritual side, but seemed equally drawn to his “bad boy” reputation. She asked Shepard what her “type” was, and the two of them ended up sitting down for a friendly dinner and talking for hours. Kelly also noticed the aquarium in Shepard's quarters and offered to feed the fish while Shepard was away on missions.
Joker was thrilled that “another dangerous alien” was on board, and suggested Shepard might want to consider stamp collecting instead.
Emails - Admiral Xen found some of Rael'Zorah's research on the Alarei, and promised to “complete what he started.” It sounded like the quarians who favoured war were winning the PR battle on the Flotilla.
Zaeed had some more stories. The moral - don't underestimate Hanar, and avoid Batarian prisons. Words to live by.
Ken reassured a nervous Gabby that they would make it through the mission just fine. He could be a real sweetheart when he wanted to be. Maybe Kasumi was right about them making a good couple.
Tali was suffering from a bit of a fever after messing up during some suit repairs. She described some of the difficulties of suit life and the challenges quarians would face trying to settle a planet. She also talked about linking suit environments, which seemed to make her a bit nervous for some reason. Kasumi was spreading gossip about the “date” Shepard had with Kelly. Classic Kasumi.
Thane passed on some research tech to help improve the Normandy's storage capacity for resource probes. Shepard asked him about Drell spirituality, and their relationship with the Hanar. Thane told her about his disease, called Kepral's syndrome. It was terminal, and Thane believed he had eight to twelve months left. Shepard asked if there was anything that could be done, but there was no cure.
Samara told Shepard she valued her friendship, and promised to come to Shepard's aid whenever needed.
Illium
Tali and Samara returned to Nos Astra. They said hi to Liara, and tracked down the Salarian who was looking for the Kirosa family data. He was grateful to get it back, as the consequences of the loss of the data would have been devastating for his family.
They went to see Seryna to update her on what happened at Dantius towers, but she was gone. Her colleague Tana passed on an audio message Seryna had left - she had taking a job off-world, but had heard about Nassana's death and wasn't the slightest bit upset about it.
Nubian Expanse: Pragia - Subject Zero
Joker brought the Normandy to the planet Pragia, in the Nubian Expanse, the site of the Cerberus facility - called Teltin - where Jack says she was tortured and experimented on as a child. Tali accompanied Jack and Shepard to the surface, and they began to investigate the now abandoned research centre. Jack seemed antsy during the shuttle ride down - she tried to act tough, but whatever happened there seemed to have affected her deeply.
Just inside the entrance they found a log entry featuring a discussion between two Cerberus employees. They claimed that TIM was “suspicious” of whatever they were up to at the facility, with one reassuring the other that “he won't find out.” It seemed to imply that Teltin went rogue. Since Shepard trusted Cerberus logs about as far as she could throw Grunt on Dekunna, she took it with a grain of salt. She didn't discount the possibility that they could be faked.
They came upon an area that looked like a little arena. Jack claimed Cerberus drugged her and had her fight other children, shocking her if she refused. To this day she experienced pleasure from violence.
They found a security console with log entry from a guard reporting that the children had rioted and worrying that Jack could get out. He claimed that all other subjects were “expendable” but Jack must be saved. Another log talked about experiments on children who died from the procedures, with the scientist concluding that those treatments couldn't be tried on Jack. Jack countered that she had been the one that started the riot by escaping. She was upset by the implication that other children suffered and died to keep her safe. Shepard didn't dispute her side of it, but did point out that she was just a child at the time and that there was likely a lot going on that she wasn't aware of.
Blood Pack mercenaries were in the facility, evidently hired by someone named Aresh. As the team neared Jack's old cell, they had to fight their way past 3 krogan and a number of vorcha. They confronted Aresh, who turned out to be a former child prisoner at the facility at the same time as Jack. He'd hired the mercs as part of some crazy plan to restart the facility, to find the answers that Cerberus had been looking for, the reasons they had done those terrible things to all of those kids. Like Jack, he was trying to close the book on that painful part of his past.
Jack threatened to kill Aresh, but Shepard intervened and convinced her that he was in the same place she was and there was nothing to be gained by it. Jack let him go, and showed Shepard the cell she had been kept in. It was heartbreaking to hear about what she experienced there.
The team returned to the shuttle, and as they departed Jack remotely detonated the explosives they had set. Shepard hoped it would help her move on.

(Everybody now: "RedCaesar, you are an idiot!") Well, now I'm curious. What did you buy? A PC off-the-shelf with a graphics card not supported by ME:A. Because I did not do my homework. Because I am an idiot and a console scrub who does not know anything about PC gaming.

Because I am an idiot and a console scrub who does not know anything about PC gaming. Aw That's too bad. I bought mine off the shelf, too, but was lucky to have a (somewhat) local store that sells proper gaming PCs. I run Andromeda on medium-low settings mostly, but with anti-aliasing turned all the way up, it still looks good and doesn't run too hot. Can you upgrade your card? Or is it a laptop?
