I do wonder why you would buy the game on release though, given your concerns. Isn't it better to wait for reviews from people you can trust, either online or in real life? It might help you avoid some disappointment. I really want to wait honestly but there are two factors: 1 is that people will be gushing and I will be gushing too over the game having its honeymoon time and I'll not have to avoid spoilers either. 2 is that the games' faults such as the bad animations are just that. bad animations, not glitches and the rest of the shortcomings are due to bad design or execution, not glitches. Fair enough, although my point about waiting wasn't related to having a less glitchy game. The first point is fair though.

Yeah, I thought you meant in relation to polish. Don't really need reviews honestly. I know I'll get the game, I'm just not sure if it'll really grab me once you get into the thick of it. I think I'll keep playing though. I just want it to be at least a little bit exciting though. Everything just makes me go "meh"

Honestly, I didn't feel like that footage was overly atrocious. It was really chatty in the very beginning, but the over tutorialization faded a bit as the mission went on. I wasn't even as annoyed by Peebee as I thought I would be. I think that's been the first time I've really heard her talk? She's way less obnoxious than Sera, so I feel much much better about her.
The guy playing was fucking garbage though. Andromeda is supposed to be based around mobility, and he's constantly hunkered down in a corner somewhere, forgetting to charge abilities, aiming poorly, tossing turrets into lava, tossing self into lava, standing around like a jackass while taking heavy fire... I barely saw him use the jetpack at all.
The scanner also seems like a less efficient version of Inquisition's weird SONAR thing. Like, it's the same concept, but now you have to be staring directly at the thing you want to interact with. I really hope it doesn't take gratuitously long to actually get through the scanning process.
I will say that the mission itself didn't seem overly exciting, but as I'm thinking back to Mass Effect 1 and 2, there were a huge plethora of "meh" missions in there. Including some of the loyalty missions. It was especially bad in ME1 where no one could bother to pick mission-appropriate music for the vast majority of side missions, and there was just some obscure ambient Sci-fi track and a bunch of "GO! GO! GO!", "ENEMIES EVERYWHERE!", "I WILL DESTROY YOU!", and some footsteps as background noise.
It's a tad concerning how the dialogue wheel doesn't seem to come up anywhere during the entire mission. I would've expected a bit more dialogue than that during a loyalty mission. Maybe most of the talking is at the very beginning and near the end. I dunno.
It really wasn't that bad though. Not as bad as everyone is making it sound, anyway.

Is anyone else skeptical about the hype over the melee weapons/moves being too much? I think some people are thinking you're going to have these awesome melee moves at your disposal when I think we are just going to see the same one animation each time. I'm not expecting there to be melee combos or attacks from above. The krogan hammer will always have the same animation just like the asari sword.
I've seen people here and on youtube mention that want to make an all melee character, but I think we're pretty limited since the game wants us to focus on guns and abilities.
Thoughts?

It never even occurred to me that someone would assume you could be an all-melee character. It seems pretty clear that there's a "melee button", same as ME2 and 3, and that button is used for when someone gets too close, not as your primary form of combat.

It just seemed like an uninspired Gears of War/Halo/Destiny level. And it plays too much like the old games.

Since people generally liked how the older games played, what should Bio have done differently? Big changes would have a downside.

"Goodbye BioWare" :'( Context: I'm feeling sad over the recent Andromeda footage and wonder if I'll be a BioWare fan at all when I'm done with that game, so I typed "what happened to BioWare" on Youtube and rewatched this brilliant opinion-piece by MrBTongue. ...and now i wanna play NV to the finish! Hahahah at that part of the where it shows Mass Effect is "streamlining". That's what killed the series in ME3 for me. Not the ending. The new diverse and beefed up mechanics in the first gameplay vid for Andromeda is what brought me back. I've been wrong before, but it's not a good thing when Alanah from ign reviews Mass Effect (her being a big Mass Effect fan) and not really liking it because it feels to streamlined and feels more like a bro style shooter. None of the previewers seemed blown away which has me worried as well. Not because of the new mechanics, but because it feels too much like ME3's levels and gameplay.

BioWare doesn't learn. That's the problem, they refuse to learn in some aspects, to listen to valid criticism. Instead, they pretend that everything is fine and dandy, coverup their flaws; game after game. They'd rather pay attention to their fans that are deep in their bubble than try to improve their shit. And all the while other developers are gazing on the game and come up a game that is better than Mass Effect like CDPR looked @ Skyrim and made Witcher 3 and it's way better than Skyrim.

As an open world game? I disagree. No one makes open world games like Bethesda/Obsidian do. No one makes buggy/glitchy/broken open world games like Bethesda/Obsidian do either. Or streamlines their RPG mechanics like they do, but I digress...

It's a tonal choice, and Skyrim didn't choose to be that kind of game. It's not a fault. It's a preference. The combat in Witcher is just as ass as Skyrim, and twice as complicated. And not in a good way. The story is better. I'll give you that one. None of that has anything to do with open world, though. Skyrim still does that better than Witcher. Witcher's open world is closer to Dragon Age, if anything.

I thought this was a problem. It's too much chatting and happening as you're trying to focus on the gameplay. Those things never go down well IMO. There was a fair amount of it in ME123 but never an over-abundance. Here I could already see myself trying to aim or look for the objective thingy and then hear some random "Blablablablablabla" in the background.

Im surprised they didnt have one in ME1, but then again thsoe barren wastes had nothing to scan. One skull i remember on some random planet but thats all. If youre exploring youre going to need a tricorder, its standard scifi stuff. And apparently they ahd conversation during that mission but they edited them out. cause of spoilers and all. Personally it would have been nice to see some. Only damn conversation ive still seen is that infamous Kadara one with Sloane Kelly.

Metroid Prime has no dialogue that is spoken. Batman only uses it for a handful of scripted moments. Witcher 3 uses it as an excuse to make filler and listen to Geralt talk to himself for the 100th time. Andromeda will be like Witcher 3.

I also noticed a bit of dialogue cutting out, but the guy playing said it was his third time doing the mission. Maybe he was triggering dialogue because he was in a rush, since he already knew what to do? That would explain why the lines are always cutting each other off, and why they're trying to say so much at one time.

Personally it would have been nice to see some. Only damn conversation ive still seen is that infamous Kadara one with Sloane Kelly. It depends on how often we have to do it, and how long it takes. My immediate assumption is that it's the new "Search" function, and I already felt like Inquisition leaned on that a little too heavily. The upside to Inquisition, however, is that it was instant, and it didn't slow down your movement speed like the scanner seems to . Hopefully Bioware reworked how the scanner functions. If it really is for the same purpose, I think it could get extremely old extremely quickly. I don't dislike the existence of a scanner, I just feel skeptical about how it's implemented. It could very easily be there just to add an extra step to simple tasks, or to be some form of supplementing gameplay to make it feel more varied than it really is. That's good to know, though. I was worried about the lack of a dialogue wheel during that whole ordeal.

As was already mentioned, Metroid was brought up in regards to the scanner, not dialogue. I hate that about Witcher though. I wish it was at least a sort of "detective monologue", like it is in the Arkham games, since that makes it a little bit more understandable, but Geralt just straight up has full conversations with himself. It's so jarring.

I honestly believe I can do I much better job marketing this game. Give me a job Bioware! I'll play your game for you. If they hire me I'm going to have them do this game all over again.
