She sure looks nice... although the supposed "unique design" of the Normandy seams to be not that unique after all... at least the CIC is on the main bridge this time - no Turian design mumbo jumbo anymore. Personally I just hope there will be more internal customization... more space to display trophies, salvaged tech, etc. would be really nice.

She sure looks nice... although the supposed "unique design" of the Normandy seams to be not that unique after all... at least the CIC is on the main bridge this time - no Turian design mumbo jumbo anymore. Personally I just hope there will be more internal customization... more space to display trophies, salvaged tech, etc. would be really nice. Avoiding spoilers, I will say only that we will apparently collect things along the journey, and that those things will appear aboard Tempest.

Still not a fan of the long thin spaceships design overall, but supposedly the Tempest is smaller than the Normandy and it has no loading screens so that's a step into the right direction Would love to have a floor plan or cut away of the Tempest already... Hope they did away with such useless and annoying corridors (like to Garrus or Joker & Edi on the Normandy) tough. Anyone got new Tempest wallpapers from the recent gameplay & orientation videos?

We only ever used the Relay Network to get from cluster to cluster. For instance, you'd need a relay to get from Argos Rho to Hades Gamma. Once you're in Hades Gamma, though, you can use FTL to travel to any star system in the cluster. This being the case, the entire Heleus Cluster will be accessible with standard FTL. That's what I thought, thanks.

Yay, I was hoping for a viewscreen, too! I now expect to be able to communicate with other ships/outposts with it! Just being able to sit/stand and look out into the stars (normally or FTL) would be pretty cool for me, since I like just looking at the sky sometimes. In conversation, it would be a nice backdrop, but I'd be really pleased if it was the topic of conversation They should have had a bartender, and they should have been voiced by one of the Inquisitors, since Mark Meer voiced DA:I's bartender And there should be one of the other Inquisitors as one of the people who hangs out in the galley Ahh, it's too bad they never had Krem talk to Cabot. Anyway, on the viewscreen: I'm genuinely wondering if we're actually gonna have any 'meet up with another ship in space for viewscreen chats and phasers at dawn' stuff in the game. I can't remember any such scenes in previous games--there's been space battles, of course, but no 'Hailing frequencies open'-type exchanges, where we actually get to talk to the people on the other ship in a sweet dialogue scene. Since I'm a massive dork, I went ahead and asked Ian Frazier about it on Twitter - probably one of the most weirdly-specific questions he's gotten - but sadly all he could say was, 'Wait and see'... (With a winky face, though! That's, like, two fifths of a yes. ) He did offer some mad Picard props, however, so his heart's definitely in the right place. (Screenshot in case the tweets don't show up for whatever reason.) I'm still gonna hold out hope we get some stuff like that in the game. It'd be soooooo Star Trek-y I'd squeal! ('Specially if, as we've discussed previously, Ryder gets to go all, 'This is Captain Ryder of the starship Tempest[...]' ) Oh, and it'd be super cool to run into derelict ships and stations, too--I loved this side mission in ME2, for the atmosphere and set-up alone: Okay, and sure, maybe also because the whole 'starship with searchlights' thing reminded me of this scene from TNG:

Watching Tempest land in the gameplay trailer was pretty cool. She lands like a bird of prey, or something, perching on the landing platform beneath the ramp. That's a fun design to watch. I like it. We got to see a bit of the galaxy map, but not too much. The trailer mentioned scanning planets while in the map, if I'm not blurring tweets with the video. (It's late!) I look forward to taking command of this ship and her crew. This game looks great, and Tempest is a centerpiece to it all. Yeah I have a thing for the whole VTOL action, watching the landing gear compress under the weight. I also like the now visible thrusters of the ship as it touches down. I don't know if I'm alone here, but one thing I hope BioWare does right this time is the proportions of the ship being proper on the inside to reflect its exterior dimensions. The Normandy bugged me a bit with how far out the forward airlock stuck out when you looked at how it lined up (or rather didn't line up) with the exterior surface if you look from the canopy of the bridge. And don't get me started on how the cargo bay seems to be about as long as the walkway between the CIC and the bridge. I know this is super nitpicky, but it was just something that nagged at me a little.

As much as they've talked up this vessel, and as small as she is compared to Normandy, I have somewhat elevated expectations. It's a single interior space, after all, with no load screens. That means they can get it right this time, in my mind.

From the exterior the Mako and the Hammerhead seemed to be made for a species half a human size. At least the Alliance Kodiak was on the right size.

I only said it was amazing that 12 plus Shepard were able to fit in the shuttle not that it couldn't hold that many I just wonder were they have gone, the enemies must have fled in terror when Shep and 12 badasses drop out of the kodiak.

Honestly, I can't help but feel that the bit about the number of people it can hold was made just to make that ridiculous clown car shuttle scene legit. Storywise, would have been better to have Shepard take the companions to Omega for some last minute shore leave before the Suicide Mission, while the Normandy did some shakedown runs in the system. This would have allowed them to test out the Reaper IFF on the Omega-4 Relay to see if was all clear to enter, rather than testing it right before they were about to go through. The Collectors detect the signal and use the opportunity to perform a quick snatch and grab of the crew, exiting back through the Omega-4 Relay before anyone had time to process what was happening. As before, Joker and EDI could have been the only ones left onboard, picked up Shepard and the companions and informed them of what happened. I dunno why they didn't do something like this? Shepard taking everyone for one last round at Afterlife before they embark on a mission that all of them might not come back from, is way more plausible than packing everyone in a shuttle the size of a port-a-loo, with seemingly no goal other than to float around for half an hour while the rest of the Normandy crew gets abducted.

I think the original idea was that you would play a mission with Shepard and Co. while using the Kodiak, and before you are taken back to the Normandy like usual it would instead do the Collectors attacking segment. For some reason though this never made it to the final game.

The numbers are real and it did said it was cramped. The only weird thing is how it was never said to where everyone was going. They could at least name dropped some other colony being attacked by the collectors that they were going to investigate. I think the original idea was that you would play a mission with Shepard and Co. while using the Kodiak, and before you are taken back to the Normandy like usual it would instead do the Collectors attacking segment. For some reason though this never made it to the final game. The problem with this option is that a normal mission only has Shepard and 2 other squad members while the rest are left behind on the ship, but the Collectors can't take them or it destroys the whole suicide mission. Really, I don't think there was any truly good way to set the whole rescue/suicide mission up without doing a little back bending to drive the plot forward.

The game addresses that. Miranda tells you that when you get closer to the objective you can choose who goes with you. So the mission would have the regular three person team while the others remain on the Kodiak rather than the Normandy. It's a lame excuse to get all squadmates off the Normandy. It would make sense if the whatever objective is to have all on deck if the objective called for it, but it didn't. If that's the case then all squadmates would be taken to each mission and Shepard would choose whoever while the rest stay in the shuttle. What would be interesting is after the suicide mission, Kelly or one of the crewmembers were to ask Shepard what was so important to take all squadmates, for whatever objective, leaving them with no one onboard to help defend them if something were to happen? I'm sure Shepard would come down with a case of the cat-got-your-tongue syndrome.

The occasions when you're screwed enough to be boarded in space but having a few expert combatants on board would fix things seem pretty scarce to me. Best case scenario you defeat the boarding party and they just blow you up instead. Really, taking the full squad or something close should be the default, not something for special occasions. They're pretty much always going to be more useful on the ground supporting Shepard, launching a diversionary attack, cutting off the enemies escape or whatever.
3 man squads are just a concession to gameplay, and the writers not finding it worth it to give people other stuff to do.
