Sar woke up. Even before she managed to look around, one thing became far too obvious to her: Whatever happened, her head was not very fond of it, and what she currently felt could be described as the mother of all headaches. She sat up and looked around: The ruins of a human city all around her. Whatever this place was once called, it was a wasteland now, courtesy of the Reapers. Then she realized: The Reapers. Her hand immediately grabbed the rifle next to where she lay unconscious moments prior. The last thing she remembered was a wave of red light, swallowing land rapidly before finally reaching the building where her sniper nest had been, together with Ghost and some snipers she never even heard of before. Ghost had to be around. He could tell her what the hell just happened. But no response of "Aye, ma'am!" could be heard, even when she shouted his nickname across the room. The only person to notice her was an Asari medic, tending to a wounded man not three meters away. "What... happened here, Doctor?" Sar asked. "I don't know!" "Listen. I need to find my companion. Do you know where the other Quarian went?" "Downstairs. Let me work," she doctor breathed out more than spoke, continuing her desperate attempt to revive her current charge. Great. How long has it been since she last lost her entire unit? A month, at best? She had to find Ghost. A brief thought while looking out the glassless window: She could contact her subordinate with helmet radios. He couldn't be far - they were only a few hundred paces away from a triage station, the first logical place to seek help. Sar raised her hand for the radio push to talk: "Ghost, this is Hisha. Come in, over." Static. She tried again, to no avail. Instead of continuing to try and raise her spotter, she tried the long-range frequency: "High Ground, this is Guardian Six. Interrogative, over." More static. Whatever the red wave of energy was - it was hardly a good thing. At least the Reapers' ground troops were nowhere to be seen. "High Ground, come in!" The radio was silent. "MFV Yaska, do you read, over?" No gunshots broke the eerie quiet. Was she even alive? Was this some sort of sick joke of an afterlife? There was only one way to find out. She holstered the sniper rifle on her back, switching it for the Lancer she acquired so long ago on Eden Prime. It's a big city out there. She took a deep breath and jogged down the first flight of stairs.
(OOC: And we're off. We'll need this and the Discussion moved, Draining Dragon Also, since we haven't settled the posting order, I have the idea of going first come first served for the first round and set the order up that way. Xesthan , GeneralXIV , @tzeenchianapostrophe and of course DD, the balls on your end of the field now.)

Zahn Viratas Turian Male Age: 23 Mercenary, Traveler, and Writer bsn.boards.net/thread/3113/characters-threadZahn Viratas couldn't believe it. Shepard did it. The Reapers were gone. That red light must have been from that weapon they mentioned. Zahn was standing in what remained of a bank in London. Half of it completely demolished by a Reaper that could have killed him. If it that plan didn't work, he might have died. He wanted to contact his superiors to see if everyone in space was alright, but all he got was static. He tried to contact someone on the ground. Same result. He got separated from the rest of the unit he was leading as the Lieutenant Commander when they got ambushed by Reapers. Zahn held the reaper troops off so that the rest of his unit could go help Shepard. He was almost expecting to die and at least some of his squad to live. Then he heard they that they got killed on the way to the beam. It was unfortunate, but no amount of crying was going to make it better. Zahn decided to see if he could find any survivors nearby. If he was lucky, one of them had a working communicator. Zahn's stomach growled. He brought out some food from his paper bag and started eating as he walked. It was a good thing he carried food with him everywhere he went.

Up in the top floor of a half-destroyed skyscraper, Skyla emerged from her cover where she had taken shelter from the red light. Her head was pounding, but she otherwise felt fine. She raised the scope of her Widow to her red eyepiece. She surveyed the ruins of London quickly, searching for any signs of the Reapers. There were none. Turning the eyepiece slightly, she connected with the small cameras built into her little drones she had fired in the surrounding area. There was nothing. No one moving. It was strange. As far as she was aware from a business perspective, she had fulfilled her part of the contract she had with the Alliance. Go to Earth, shoot Reapers, get paid. But she figured she would stick around a little longer. It was a chance to rebuild, after all. It would be the galaxy her daughter would grow up in, and she was sure she wasnt going to let it be a bad one. She tried to contact the Alliance through her comms, but she was getting nothing but static. Still, she was only a short distance away from the triage station, and it made sense to go there. Skyla gripped a long length of rope dangling down the side of the building. She clipped herself on to it and abseiled down the skyscraper. Her jet boosters wouldnt be the smartest idea at such a great height. She immediately missed the elevated, tactical position the building offered, but she was finished. Done. That didnt stop her from keeping her Widow in her hands, though. When she reached ground level, she did a quick sweep of the area and checked for enemies. There were none. She checked the drone cameras again. Still nothing. It was like the whole Earth had frozen. Skyla used her boosters to jump high enough on to the roof of what was once a store, and did yet another sweep of the area in front of her. You could never be too careful, especially when the Reapers were concerned. Put a bullet in one cannibal and another would eat it. Shoot a ravager and you would get attacked by swarmers. There was always something waiting where the Reapers were concerned. Something up their sleeve. The triage station wasnt very far, but she guessed that survivors would be meeting there. Many would need patching up. It would be a good place to make contact with the Alliance, and then her daughter. She was done playing hero. Yes, she had saved an Alliance soldier from his fate when she shot a Marauder in the head from a thousand feet away. And yes, that had been a nice feeling. But she was a hitman, not a soldier. It was time to get back to reality. [OOC: If ive done anything wrong just let me know not really sure what Im talking about with this ]

And so it was over. With a wave of red light, the abominations that had claimed countless lives and decimated entire worlds were defeated. The galaxy was saved. Mission accomplished. The turian soldier should have been elated. And yet, Caelus Hadrian felt only emptiness inside as he looked around at the bloody remainders of his squad. Husks had ambushed them as they were on their way to meet up with the rest of Hammer. He remembered having his Phaeston ripped out of his hands, instinctively activating his omni-blades and lashing out at a nearby husk, cutting its head off in one slice… the screams as a corporal had his armor ripped off… the sight of the squad medic being dragged off by two of the creatures. He yelled an order for the rest to regroup near him, but was cut off by a paralyzing roar. A brute. Cael had lured the Brute away from the rest of the squad, hoping the survivors might be able to handle the rest of the horde. Unfortunately, the creature proved more formidable than he expected. He misjudged the speed of its charge and ended up being knocked against a wall, leaving him momentarily stunned. Before he could stand, the creature was towering over him, and he found himself looking directly into its eyes. Cael was sure he was about to die… and then, suddenly, a red light enveloped them and the Brute was vaporized. The turian breathed a sigh of relief. He wasn’t sure what had happened, but he assumed that the superweapon he was briefed on had done its job. After a moment of rest, Cael pulled himself to his feet. He was exhausted and bruised all over, but at least he was alive. When he got back to the site where his squad had been engaging the husks, though, he saw that they were not so lucky. A quick search of the area confirmed Cael’s worst fears: he was the only survivor. There was now nothing left to do but report in. He tried to radio the main base, but all he got was static. It was like the thing that had destroyed the brute had also tampered with his equipment. Ah, well. He knew there was a triage station nearby. Perhaps their communication equipment would still be functional? There was only way to find out. He started walking. (OOC: this is my first RP post, so I'll apologize if it's lackluster. Everyone has posted, now, so I guess the posting order will be Serza, Xesthan, GeneralXIV, @tzeenchianapostrophe, and then me?)

Sar barely made it a block before the memories of her old brothers in arms clawed their way to the fore of her thinking. Major Reegar, killed a hero on Palaven. Corporal Hoodar, KIA on Haestrom. Private Iri, the gung-ho kid who got himself killed on Freedom's Progress. Sergeant Adin, the gunner who died with his machine gun empty and shields burnt in Haestrom sun. Sergeant Myr'Vael, the combat engineer and her mentor. Thinking about Myr'Vael was especially hard. His daughter was on a pilgrimage at the time, and it was Sar who had to talk to the young girl. Sar, who dodged a bullet and hasn't been to Haestrom. It didn't end well, as Myr filled the role of her other father. As she rounded the corner, still watching out for Marauders and Cannibals in the absolutely quiet city, another memory of Sergeant Vael crossed her mind. Before she was side tracked to Freedom's Progress with her fireteam, he gave her a program to measure electromagnetic pulses. "The solar flares are EMPs. This will help us stay out of trouble," he said. Now his thoughtfulness over a year ago might push the chance in her favor a little bit. She found nearest hard cover behind a fallen pillar and took a knee, firing up her Omni-tool. She still had the program. In fact, Sar made it a point to never erase anything she was given while in service on account of it becoming useful later. Programs don't weigh anything, after all. The hologram on her wrist began working. The results were similar to what she expected. EMP rippled in intervals only few seconds long. That was what was disrupting her comms. "Bosh'tet..." It could take hours for the EMP ripples to clear. On the other hand, this explained the complete lack of Reaper forces on her way to the triage station: Operation Crucible seemed to be a success. According to the need-to-know briefing she received on the shuttle, there was a plan. The reason all of Hammer pushed in one direction. Crucible must have fired. The only weapon capable of destroying the Reapers and winning the war. The pulses were nothing but a side effect of what was hopefully the one final roar of defiance that defeated the synthetic monsters. Sar raised to her feet again, still advancing with rifle drawn and covering likely spots where a shooter could hide. One could never be too sure. She reached a small square, the other side of which meant only two blocks left to her current goal: The triage station. She let the Lancer drop on the sling, leaving it limp and bumping on her stomach as she walked, simultaneously looking at her Omni-tool again and drawing the Recon drone from her belt. Perhaps it would work, even in this condition. She positioned the drone at her feet and pressed the engine toggle on her 'Tool. The drone itself was inaudible, but began to shake ever so slightly, meaning it was still operational - perhaps at least something would go her way. Just as she did it every time: Gain altitude, turn on thermal and see if anyone is nearby and improperly prepared. Sometimes, it was surprising how many would forego full thermal shielding and armor in favor of not breathing through a helmet - a luxury Sar could not afford. The reason she favored thermal so much during the Reaper war, however, was because the giant squids didn't bother decreasing their ground troops' signatures, a fact that saved her multiple times on Menae. With no thermal signatures on the square or surrounding buildings, she switched to scanning with sonar and finally with the old VIS mode, which was a simple camera. The whole square was clear. She sent the drone to the far side of it for retrieval, shut her Omni-tool and jogged across. The remaining two blocks were no different from the rest of her trip, and after a shortcut through a collapsed building, she walked in the store-turned-triage through the front door, hoping to see Ghost, safe and sound... Xesthan - you're up mate (OOC: Hey, Skyla's drones work... *shrug*)

Zahn Viratas Turian Male Age: 23 Mercenary, Traveler, and Writer bsn.boards.net/thread/3113/characters-threadZahn finished eating and threw his bag into the trash. While he walked, he tried to find some ammo, but wasn't having any luck. With the exception of his pistol, all of his weapons were out of ammo. Other than that, his only weapons was his omni-tool blade and two grenades. The reapers were gone, but he didn't want to get ambushed and die like a punk. Zahn had managed to find the Forward Operating Base. He could see injured soldiers being rushed in for medical attention. Most of them were humans, but there were some Turians and Krogan there. He found the Communications Tech officer and approached him. "Do you know what's going on with the signal?" Zahn asked. "I haven't been able to contact anyone." "I won't bore you with the tech talk," the Officer said. "But you can expect everything to be in working order later tonight." Zahn nodded. "Thanks. Do you happen to know where my dad is?" "Right here, Zahn," said a voice from behind him. "Right here." Zahn turned around to see his father, Admiral Galen Viratas. He sighed. "Good to see you're alive." Galen chuckled. "Says the knucklehead who risked his life to get his comrades to safety and faced certain death." "Hey, that's Lieutenant Commander Knucklehead to you, Admiral." "You can drop the formalities, you were never the military type, Zahn. Anyhow, I have a mission for you while we get communications up and running again. It is very straight forward. See if you can find any of the fallen nearby and bring them here. We want to ensure that every soldier gets a proper burial. I am afraid we cannot lend any you vehicles at the moment. You will need to go on foot." "I can do that. I'll just get some ammo before I go." Zahn had found eight corpses so far, but no survivors. It's too bad, these soldiers must have had family waiting for them when they got back alive. While there may be peace now, a lot of families aren't going to be having peace for a long time. He got on top of a tall building and used his binoculars to find any survivors that were far away. While he was ordered to find corpses, that did not mean he wasn't going to look for survivors. Sure enough, he found a Turian in orange tinted armor in the distance. Zahn used the elevator to get to the ground floor then started picking up the paste. OOC: GeneralXIV , here you go.

Skyla noticed a building in the distance which had almost been severed in half by a Reaper. She could see people moving inside it, and aimed down her scope. It was just some Alliance soldiers, no reason to worry. She was looking forward to taking off her helmet and embracing her daughter again for the first time in months. She felt uncomfortable being apart from her for such a long time. She also didnt like spending time around soldiers. Despite the fact their occupations were strikingly similar, considering both soldiers and assassins would get paid for killing people, many soldiers in the Alliance looked down on her. It could have been because of her Cerberus armor, her chosen job or the fact that she refused to remove her helmet and deactivate her voice synthesizer even when in a public place. It must have been obvious that she didnt trust them, and have no intentions of letting them know who she was, or becoming one of them. It was also probably why the Alliance had sent her alone instead of part of a squad. No one trusted her, and she trusted no one. Skyla began to notice people heading towards the triage station just as she was. It was nice to see life in the ruins, and know that she wasnt the last person alive in the whole of London. She checked her comms again, but there was still nothing but static. It would probably come back eventually, but she didnt want to waste time. She boosted down from the roof, and approached the entrance to the triage station. Unsurprisingly, she was stopped by an Alliance soldier at the gate. She had seen a few people enter ahead of her without any trouble, but she was dressed as a Nemesis after all. She showed him the clearance she had been given by one of the Alliance brass, and was eventually allowed to pass. She hadnt uttered a word to him, despite the gun being aimed in her direction. She had noticed that he double checked the documents to make sure they were authentic, but she could hardly hold it against him when he was doing his job. It was only a minor inconvenience after all. [OOC: sorry for the wait, today has been super busy for me so far Also if I have to edit this because of the timing of things happening I can Anndddd tagging @tzeenchianapostrophe ]

As Cael walked, he noted the devastation around him. Leveled skyscrapers, demolished cars, scorched bodies… at one point he nearly stepped in the remains of a small earth animal. What did humans call them? Cats? The poor thing had evidently been trampled a few months prior. Cael had never been to London before the war; in fact, he had never set foot on Earth before Operation: Crucible. He had seen pictures, though; studying other races and their cultures was something of a hobby for him. At the time, it had reminded him of his own homeworld. Perhaps, now that the war was over, it could be rebuilt. He certainly hoped so.
At last, the location of the triage station came into view. It had been set up in an abandoned store, typical military procedure in an urban environment. The front door was open, and after identifying himself to the guard, Cael strode in. There were a few humans in lab coats standing behind a counter. One of them appeared to be giving directions, while another nodded and recorded something in their omni-tool. The third was typing on a computer. Presumably these were some of the doctors in charge of sorting the casualities. To the right, Cael noticed multiple soldiers lying on mattresses, and watched as an asari and turian used a stretcher to carry one of the injured into a back room.
He walked up to the counter. “Excuse me.”
The doctor who had been typing looked up. There was a tired expression in her eyes, as if she had been dealing with this all day. “Hello. Can I help you?”
The turian nodded. “Staff Sergeant Caelus Hadrian, 43rd Marine Division. I’m not in need of any medical attention, but my comms are down. I need to use your radio.”
The human shook her head. “I’m sorry, sir, but our comms are also malfunctioning. According to our communications officer, the red wave that eliminated the Reaper forces also appears to have generated a light EMP. Until that dies down, all radio equipment will be non-functional.”
That was unfortunate, but not the end of the world. The forward operating base would have a quantum entanglement communicator, which shouldn’t have been negatively impacted by the EMP. Cael could give his report there. He thanked the doctor and turned to leave. As he did so, he noticed an armored quarian entering through the door. Interesting. Cael knew the quarians were part of the coalition to retake Earth, but he had never actually served with one, despite being part of a division that routinely trained with and operated alongside members of other races. He didn't see any signs of serious injury, though it was admittedly difficult to tell with the suit. Was she here for the same reason he was?
(OOC: Giving you an opening here, Serza . It’s up to you how you want to initiate the interaction between the characters.)

Sar holstered the Lancer assault rifle on her back as she walked in. The triage was nothing special. Countless cots and tables, now improvised as beds for the wounded. She has seen this one before. On Menae. That blasted moon over Palaven. Many of them had no real future: few flesh wounds when fighting giant monsters from dark space. Menae. Her first close encounter with a Brute, and thankfully the last. Even a month later, she couldn't understand how she killed the beast with nothing but omni-tool for weapons, but she was glad she learned how to incinerate foes from her mentor. Not that the kill helped her squad any. There were simply too many, and she was glad the Brute's sheer strength and the backblast of her own rodeo incinerate didn't kill her. Nobody asked to be a hero, and nobody wanted to die in vain. This way, she could at least avenge both the dozen heroes in her squad, and the remainder of the hundred men and women who had partaken in Reegar's Last Stand, as the media called it. Sar tore herself from her mind as she passed a Turian in yellow armor. She gave him a single look before uttering "Staff Sarn't" with a short salute. She didn't need to, as she still outranked the man, but all the militaries in the galaxy used the greeting as a sign of respect. And whatever fighting hole he just crawled out of, he had to be one tough bosh'tet. There was only one fellow survivor she was after, however. She turned to the doctor behind the counter. "Excuse me. Sergeant First Class Neda, Migrant Fleet Marines. I'm looking for a survivor, Quarian like me. Private Rael'Gazu vas Neema. Could've referred to himself as Ghost, had a skull on his faceplate," she asked, her voice tired more than she herself expected. "Sorry ma'am. He was here, but already left for a nearby base." "Bosh'tet..." she sighed. "Thank you. I know the one. Can you point me to any working comms, preferably a Queck?" "Queck, ma'am?" she doctor inquired, visibly clueless about what Sar just asked her. "QEC. Quantum Entanglement Communicator." "No, I'm sorry. I don't know what that is. Goodbye." Sar sighed. The doctor didn't seem interested in talking. With no more words, she pulled out the two spare medi-gel packets in the pack at the small of her back and put them on the counter. The Turian Staff Sergeant she passed on the way in might know more. She turned around to see where he went, but instead she saw... Training took over. She no longer felt tired as her hand acted on muscle memory, drawing and presenting the Phalanx pistol with lethal precision. "HANDS! HANDS! SHOW ME YOUR HANDS! DROP YOUR WEAPON!" she yelled across the store as she aimed squarely at the black figure armed with a sniper rifle. Cerberus Nemesis. Assassin. Sniper. Barely organic, and certainly no longer human behind that faceplate. And now facing Sar and the Turian Staff Sergeant, who was surprisingly far more calm about the situation than he should have been. Xesthan(OOC: Well, sh...tuffz just got real.)

Zahn Viratas Turian Male Age: 23 Mercenary, Traveler, and Writer bsn.boards.net/thread/3113/characters-threadZahn caught up to the Turian in orange tinted armor. Oddly enough, he had barely moved since he last saw him. He was just standing there. "Pardon me," Zahn said. "Are you alright?" The Turian turned, pulling out his pistol. "I am. You won't be." It's a trap. How fun. What is it with people announcing their plan right before they spring it?Zahn slammed him to the ground with his biotics. "All too easy." He took a look through the now unconscious Turian's data pad. The information he has suggests he's a Cerberus agent. They don't normally recruit aliens. They must have had some sort of arrangement if he's working for them. Maybe he was forced into it. Who knew? There wasn't much on their activities recorded in it. Except for some text messages. There were four people apart of it, all part of a squad presumably. Their usernames were numbers: 1,2,3, and 4. This Turian was 4. The messages seem to delete themselves every half an hour to avoid anything they do to get in the wrong hands. This is all that was left of the exchange: 4: I've got Zahn Viratas coming my way. He took the bait.1: Good work. The boss would be happy about that if he was still alive. 2 and 3, both of you remember what do, right? 2: Yes, sir. Hitting base as planned. 3: I have successfully infiltrated their ranks. I'm the guy helping the Communications Tech Officer fixing the communications. I will inform all of you of what the Alliance says in their communications ASAP.
So their boss still wanted him dead? What was his name again? The Illuminating Man? The Enlightenment Man? The Human Torch? ...The Illusive Man! That was it. The reason why the IM wanted him dead went all the way back to a mission that happened right around the Reapers attacked Earth. He and his squad attacked a Cerberus base. He supposedly came close to the finding out the Illusive Man's identity and location before Kai Leng stopped them. Zahn managed to hold his own, but wasn't fully prepared for a life or death battle with Kai Leng and had to retreat. Good thing Leng didn't pursue him. Zahn contacted the agents as 4. 4: I got him. What next?1: Join the others. They could use back up. I will be there soon.4: Roger that.Zahn had to get to the base. Now that he knew that they'd all be there. He wasn't too far away from the base. Zahn should get there in time. Zahn was approaching the base. He saw a Nemesis with a Sniper Rifle facing a Quarian and a Turian. Before he could do anything, a Phantom came at him with her sword from behind. Zahn ducked and parried with his omni-blade. "Hey #2," Zahn said, chuckling. "A beautiful moon isn't it? You may be trying to kill me, but I'm willing to have dinner with you if you get your groupies to pull out. Deal?" "You're supposed to be dead!" she yelled. "I get that a lot." OOC: Here we go. "Hands! Hands! Show me your hands! Drop your weapon!" Before Skyla had even seen her attacker, she already identified her. She was a Quarian, by her accent. She slowly turned to face her. The Quarian was holding an M-5 Phalanx, a weapon which she also used. It would make the calculations easier. Her Widow had one shot, and at such a short distance her weapon had the potential to kill the Quarian outright, or at least put a sizable breach in her suit. The M-5 Phalanx would take at least two shots to kill her, with three being the most likely scenario. There was a high probability that she would escape unscathed, but it was a risky shot nevertheless. The pistol was already raised in her direction, whereas her sniper was only by her side, increasing the risk of injury considerably. "Contact!" she heard the Alliance soldier from the entrance shout. She spun quickly, firing a drone at the feet of the Quarian and detonating the flashbang as she turned. She raised the scope of her sniper to her eyepiece. There looked to be a Cerberus Phantom engaging a Turian just outside. A Phantom who almost certainly had orders to kill her, as she ranked fairly high on Cerberus' list of targets, even after so many years. She fired her weapon, the shot striking the Phantom in the center of her forehead and practically shattering her faceplate. She cloaked as soon as she saw the Phantom drop, moving to cover. She fired a drone at the wall, swapping to her sidearm as she took cover behind it, ready in case the Quarian decided to try and pursue her, her eyepiece adjusted to the view of the drone, giving her a view of her attacker even though she wouldnt be able to see her.

As the quarian approached Cael hastily saluted, noting the Sergeant First Class insignia on her uniform. The war might be over, but that didn't mean the chain of command no longer needed to be respected. The quarian returned his salute and muttered "Staff Sarn't" before walking past him to speak with the doctor. Cael stepped back to give her space, but lingered, still curious about this newcomer. She introduced herself as Sergeant First Class Neda of the Migrant Fleet Marines, and inquired into the whereabouts of another quarian, presumably one of her squadmates. When the doctor told her that the squadmate had already left, Neda next asked about the QEC. The doctor gave her the same response Cael had received. It was then that the turian noticed a black-armored figure coming in the door. A Cerberus Nemesis? Here? He started to reach for his Phaeston, then stopped. Something wasn't right. The markings on the armor differed from those of a typical Nemesis, and didn't they normally use M-13 Raptors? That rifle she held by her side looked like a Widow. Cael vaguely recalled being briefed on ex-Cerberus operatives who had joined the fight against the Reapers. He had never served alongside one, but perhaps this woman was among them. Besides, he surely would have noticed if there had been a scuffle just outside the door. Cael relaxed. Then everything went to hell. "HANDS! HANDS! SHOW ME YOUR HANDS! DROP YOUR WEAPON!" he heard Neda yell. He glanced in her direction and saw that she was now pointing a Phalanx at the apparent Nemesis. Had he misjudged the threat? Cael stepped back and reached for his Phaeston once again when he heard another sound. "Contact!" The alliance soldier yelled from just outside the door. Perfect. A Cerberus raid was exactly what Cael needed right now. He moved to aim his Phaeston at the Nemesis, but before he could finish the motion, she fired off a small device. Probably some sort of grenade, and in his exhaustion, he was only able to turn away before it detonated. A deafening sound filled Cael's ears, and his vision seemed to blur. The flashbang had disoriented him, and he stumbled back, struggling to maintain balance. As he did, he tried to direct his gaze back to the door, and saw the Nemesis fire at a target outside. Odd. What could she possibly have to shoot at outside of the station? And for that matter, why had the guard let her in without a fight? No time to think about that now. He needed to neutralize the threat by any means necessary. Now recovered, Cael raised his assault rifle again, and pointed it straight at his assailant. Before he could fire, though, she disappeared in the telltale blur of a tactical cloak. Cael scanned the room, alert for the possibility of a sneak attack. (OOC: Serza , you're up.)

A moment of silence ensued. The Nemesis in front of her seemed to be assessing the situation and odds of victory. As soon as the presumed Cerberus operative began to kneel in surrender, however, the bosh'tet threw something at Sar's feet. In an instinct, Sar tried to cover her visor: If it was a grenade, it stood no chance getting through her shields. If it was a Flashbang... ...it was a Flashbang. Much cruder than her own Arc-bangers, but it usually got the job done. With the positioning, right under her feet, Sar's cheekpiece caught some of the flash, while the visor's innate ability to negate Flashbangs did the rest. The loud bang, so fittingly giving the grenade the second half of it's name, was irrelevant: her helmet let none of it through, resulting in a brief sensation of listening to vacuum before the sound receptors allowed sound to flow again. Sar hit her cloak reflexively, wishing to remain nigh-invisible for the time being. The Nemesis turned around on her knee and fired at something outside the triage station before cloaking. Two could play this game, eh, she thought, stepping away from her previous position and remaining motionless, her eyes scanning the room for any sort of flickering outlines that could signify the presence of a cloaked person. Giving a thought to the shot from the Nemesis' Widow, she shot a look at the impact area: A Turian, Omni-Blade drawn, kneeling over what looked like a Phantom. Headless Phantom. A good shot. The Staff Sergeant, now good two meters away, was already scanning the room, Phaeston at the ready. Finally, a good reaction. Something wasn't right, though. No dim outline of a tactical cloak, trying to peek out of cover to see where the enemy was. Did the Nemesis already evade, or was there some sort of remote observation going on? The questions raced through Sar's mind. She switched her Phalanx to the weak hand, reaching for the Lancer with her strong. A glance at the timer. Plenty of cloak left. Holstering a pistol with her weak hand wasn't an easy business, but she managed. It was time to stop looking, and start hunting. Aware that the cloaks were superior at camouflaging stationary - and slowly moving - objects and personnel, she made half-steps towards the first logical bit of cover, climbing on top. Bingo: She could see a faint glimmer. Sar remembered the two old sayings: If you can see them, they can see you. If the enemy is in range, so are we. There was no long, smooth object, however. The Nemesis went for a sidearm, and now, with the fully automatic assault rifle, Sar had the decisive advantage. In retrospect, however, something was off. The Phantom could have been a miss. But if this was a barely-human Cerberus operative, why would the Alliance soldier be still alive? Sar put her finger on the trigger, but did not press it. Instead, she shouted towards the outline: "Explain yourself!"
(OOC: Yeah, sorry. Took me a while. Already said why. Decided now's a good time to post, since I'm calm. If I were to wait until immediate problems were solved, I might end up delaying even more.) Xesthan

Skyla had tracked the digital haze heading in her direction, so had her pistol ready when the Quarian climbed over her cover. She aimed it at her attacker, but the Quarian instead decided to talk instead of shooting.
Which, ultimately, meant that she wasnt going to shoot her at all. If she wanted her dead, she would have pulled the trigger already.
"Explain yourself!" shouted the Quarian.
"Explain yourself," she replied, her voice synthesizer giving her a sinister tone. She didnt back down, however. That would show weakness. Her gun was deathly still in her hands.
The outlook of the situation wasnt ideal. She had taken notice of the Turian at the other side of the triage station, and the Quarian appeared to be holding a rifle. Skyla would obviously have the advantage in terms of accuracy, but at close range it wouldnt exactly matter. She had the advantage of her drone, which she could detonate and buy herself a few precious seconds if it came down to a fight. It would distract her, even if it wouldnt do much if she detonated it from behind.
She could also gain a further advantage by distracting the Quarian with speech. That, or seek to understand why she had thought it suitable to attack her in the first place.
"I do not know you," she said in a serious tone.

Zahn Viratas Turian Male Age: 23 Mercenary, Traveler, and Writer bsn.boards.net/thread/3113/characters-threadZahn barely managed to dodge the Phantom's slash. "I expected more from someone who fought Kai Leng and lived!" she yelled. Why does she yell so much?"Okay," Zahn said. He sighed. "First of all, I don't know what they tell you, but I only got close to the Illusive Man's identity on accident. Second, I don't even think I'm that good. Now that we have that out of the way, are we down for that date tonight?" Zahn managed to distract her long enough to get shot in the head. He made sure to note to himself to thank whoever killed her. Zahn could have pulled out his pistol in time, but that's no longer necessary. He wasn't acting seriously with her for the most part. Zahn made a habit of flirting with female foes on a daily basis, including a Krogan, but he almost got himself killed doing that. He knelled and started inspecting her belongings. There was nothing aside from a few weapons and her data pad, which had the same messages since he last looked at it. Zahn went up to the Turian who was scanning the room. @tzeenchianapostrophe

Cael saw Neda's shimmering outline moving towards a low shelf by the door. He kept his Phaeston at the ready and slowly circled to the right, ready to fire if the Nemesis revealed herself. Neda vaulted over the piece of cover... then rapidly brought the gun in her hands to a ready position, pointing at something that Cael could not see. "Explain yourself!" she shouted. The turian then heard another voice reply. "Explain yourself," it said, with a synthesized tone. Evidently the Nemesis had been located... and she and Neda were in some sort of standoff. Cael was now by the door, and he risked a quick glance outside to see what the Nemesis had fired at. A Cerberus Phantom lay on the ground, headplate fractured, with a dark-clothed turian holding an Omni-blade over the corpse. Why would a Cerberus operative fire on an ally? He turned his attention back to Neda and the Nemesis. Their cloaks had both deactivated, and he could now see that they were pointing guns at each other point blank, with Neda only a few meters away from Cael. The Nemesis spoke again. "I do not know you," she said to the quarian. Before Neda could answer, Cael spoke. "Lower your weapon, human. There's no way you'll make it out of here alive otherwise." He put as much menace into his voice as possible. Cael had a special hatred for Cerberus. His mother, a Citadel Security officer, had been one of the casualties when the human terrorists invaded the heart of galactic civilization. Turians were taught from a young age to put their duty to the hierarchy above all other things, and Cael was disciplined even by the standards of his race. He had been able to focus on his mission up until that point, but with the war now over and Cael's immediate mission completed, this Cerberus operative was an unwelcome reminder of what he had lost. He felt as if his blood was boiling. Another voice from outside cut into his thoughts. "Greetings. The name is Kato. I'd suggest that everyone take a deep breath and calm down." Cael snapped his gaze towards the direction of the voice and saw a red-skinned drell holding the Phantom's sword. He took a step back and pivoted to aim his assault rifle at this newcomer. Was he friend? Or foe? "I don't know who this agent is, but Cerberus agents don't shoot other Cerberus agents, not that I have seen anyway, and they most certainly don't do it when surrounded by alien enemies." "They also don't get caught up in armed standoffs like this, they either shoot their way out, or die trying." Pointing with the sword at the exposed implants on the Phantom's arm, Kato added. "At least not the ones with these... upgrades... they are fanatics in the most extreme sense of the word." "So before we all try to finish off what the Reapers started and kill each other, perhaps we can have a nice conversation that does not include drawn weapons." Cael kept his eyes on Kato as he pondered the drell's words. Yes, they made sense and were consistent with the turian's own earlier suspicions about the identity of the nemesis. He relaxed somewhat, but did not lower his weapon. "That's a good idea, drell, except that you'll need to explain yourself better first. Who are you? Mercenary? Soldier? And for that matter, who's the fellow with the Omni-blade?" He gestured at the turian. "Are you with him?" ( Serza . I hope I got all the information correct.)

"Explain yourself." Sar had to do a double take. Did the Nemesis really just repeat her words back at her? What was the point here? Why friendly fire? And how did the Nemesis observe the room if she never took a look? The easiest answer was a drone, similar to one now on Sar's utility belt. If there was one, Ancestors only knew what it could do. Sar stayed silent. She wasn't the one who just strolled in an Alliance triage station and shot someone wearing the same uniform out the door. "I do not know you," the Nemesis continued. It's grasp of the obvious was rather good. Sar kept the Lancer trained on the Nemesis' head. One good burst was all it would take... "Lower your weapon, human. There's no way you'll make it out of here alive otherwise." That was the Turian Sergeant she greeted not five minutes ago. He too was aiming his standart-issue Phaeston, obviously not intending to stand down that fast. With that, Sar agreed wholeheartedly. It's been three years since Cerberus indiscriminately attacked the Migrant Fleet, and her father was lucky to get away unharmed. This Nemesis wasn't walking out of here, not without hands tied behind her back. Footsteps tore her from the half-minded train of thought: Two more people were approaching. Another Turian and a Drell, neither wearing armor. Instead, the Turian wore what seemed to be a torn up travel cloak, and the Drell had one of the well-fit leather jackets characteristic of his species. They were, however, both armed and had shield harnesses visible, making it obvious they were not civilians themselves. "Greetings. The name is Kato. I'd suggest that everyone take a deep breath and calm down." Really? What was his business. Was he on Cerberus' payroll? They were not very well known for hiring non-humans. "So before we all try to finish off what the Reapers started and kill each other, perhaps we can have a nice conversation that does not include drawn weapons." No. He was unlikely to work for Cerberus. Speaking of their operatives, the Nemesis was as quiet as they usually were. It could have been a trick. One way or another, he probably had no idea who they had on their hands. Usually, Sar would listen to him. This is irregular enough, and she already let her foe live this long at gunpoint. But not today. There was a lot of fighting. It did not even occur to her than ten minutes ago, she had enough of war. There was a person in an enemy uniform, and that's all that mattered to Sar. No morals, no logic. Just the uniform. Sar was thankful for not having to respond to the newcomers, as the Sergeant did it for her. Less work. She could concentrate on aiming, and thinking about that remote observation device somewhere in the area. "That's a good idea, drell, except that you'll need to explain yourself better first. Who are you? Mercenary? Soldier? And for that matter, who's the fellow with the Omni-blade?" A gesture from the Staff Sergeant she caught in her peripheral vision. "Are you with him?" Good questions. These two were not Alliance. They weren't Hierarchy either, for that matter. And there was no Drell unit, according to the briefing. Another voice from the door. Human. His words, Sar didn't even register properly. Something about documents being in order. And about a Phantoms hand the Drell was holding, a detail she missed when shooting a glance in that direction. She zoned out, uncertain about how long passed when the Alliance Marine walked up to her and gently lowered her Lancer away from the Cerberus agent...
OOC: Here's the important part. According to Wiki, people suffering PTSD often think and feel differently than normal. This is exactly what's written there, and this is how I interpreted it for the sake of the story. Regardless of this, I don't think she's a psychological casualty just yet, but, you know. She just survived Reegar's Last Stand, an operation that everyone thinks had no survivors. She lost pretty much everyone in her unit, and Ghost is, far as she knows, MIA. Which will lead us to an interesting mechanic eventually, because I have yet to decide if callsign Guardian Six-2, Private Rael'Gazu, Ghost, will remain elusive or join the merry band of misfits as an NPC, similar to Admiral Viratas. Zahn Viratas Turian Male Age: 23 Mercenary, Traveler, and Writer bsn.boards.net/thread/3113/characters-thread"Lieutenant Commander Zahn Viratas," he said, saluting the Turian. "I'm part of the Turian military, at least I have been for the past few months. And no, I am not with him." gesturing to the Drell. Zahn continued "Right now, we should shift our focus elsewhere. There's still another Cerberus Agent. Here's the evidence if you don't believe me." He handed the datapad to the Turian and pointed to the message saying: 3: I have successfully infiltrated their ranks. I'm the guy helping the Communications Tech Officer fixing the communications. I will inform all of you of what the Alliance says in their communications ASAP.
Zahn deactivated his omni-blade and took out his pistol. In most cases he would made a quick quip, but they couldn't afford to waste any time. He turned his head to the Quarian and the woman in Nemesis armor "If it puts you on ease, at least for a bit, we can have some troops watch her(Skyla) until we deal with Communications Tech Officer assistant," He then addressed the woman. "If you don't like it, then I can make it up to you later in any way you like." She didn't seem to be the enemy, but he would rather not waste any time with any unnecessary chatter. Zahn turned back to the Turian "Do you know who that would be?" OOC: GeneralXIV

Skyla did not lower her weapon, keeping it firmly raised. She did not care who they were, she would not leave herself open against multiple enemies. The news of a second Cerberus agent was troubling, especially if they were monitoring Alliance communications. Under the terms of her contract, she was authorized and obliged to hunt any direct threat to the Alliance or galactic life in its entirety during her time on Earth, and she had not left. Ergo, it appeared she had a target. "I do not work for Cerberus," she said, "Neither I am not going to be watched. If I see someone following me or restricting my movements they will die. I have authorization to be here. If there is a Cerberus agent nearby I am obligated to hunt them. But get in my way, and it will not end well for you. I do not care who you are, or what your names are. It makes no difference to me." [OOC: @tzeenchianapostrophe ]

Viratas. Cael recognized that name. Galen Viratas was a well-respected admiral in the turian military. He didn't know the old man had a son, though. Cael wondered how this Zahn had become a Lieutenant-Commander after only a few months. That was highly unusual. Normally it took at least decade or so of diligent service for an officer to reach that rank, but then, it wasn't Cael's place to question. The drell, Kato, was also interesting. Cael had little fondness for mercenaries as a rule - they tended to lack the discipline or respect for authority found among soldiers - but at the same time, the mercenary had clearly contributed to the war effort. That was worthy of respect. Cael lowered his weapon and saluted the Lieutenant-Commander. "Sir. Sorry for the misunderstanding." He accepted the datapad and looked it over. So Cerberus was planning to eavesdrop Alliance communications, eh? Not on his watch. Cael looked back up and addressed Zahn and Kato. "I was just about to head to the Forward Operating Base. I don't know who this agent is, but we don't need a bunch of terrorists getting their hands on any more intel than they already have. We should move quickly." Cael turned back towards the quarian and sniper. They were still pointing their guns at one another. "If you really are authorized to be here, human, then you have no reason to be uncooperative. Your former employers have infiltrated the ranks of the Alliance. It is your duty to assist us in eliminating this threat. Stand down." ( Serza )

(OOC: Music!: and this is the time of armor that Ben is wearing: redliner91.deviantart.com/art/Mass-Effect-3-N7-Destroyer-V2-2013-347939647 Ben is without a helmet.) Ben slowly opened his eyes, grimacing as he got up. While doing so Ben scanned the area around him, the Reapers he and his team were fighting a few hours ago were vanquished by a blinding red light. Spitting out blood from his mouth and grabbing his fallen M76- Renevant Ben tried to remember the events that transpired. What he could recall was that he was being thrown around like a ragdoll by a Banshee with a bunch of husks and Reaper soldiers pinning them down. As his group: A Krogan named Okar, a Drell adept named Set and his fellow N-7 soldier and friend: Steven Lamar. Ben hated the Alliance for its moral hypocrisy combined with his natural tendency to rebel. However as soon as the Reapers arrived and attacked Earth, Ben was contacted by Steven who offered him to go back to the N7 again. Ben was a bit hesitant at first, but hearing news for Al Jalani about the Reaper attacks on Earth and the Alliance's efforts to repel against the attackers Ben accepted. He still disliked the Alliance, but they were the only force who were holding their own against the Reapers on Earth and Ben needed to do something to defend not only his species but the world. As Ben searched around, gripping his rifle he began to limp through the rubble rubbing the gash on the back of his neck. During his tenure back as an N7 soldier Ben traveled from planet to planet, teaming up with every species from humans, Elcor, Volus, Krogan, Quarian, Batarian, Turain, Vorchas and Salarians. He made friends with just about everyone he fought with which surprised Ben they were united for purpose: Survive. Ben fought back Reapers, Cerberus, Geth and the Collectors. Speaking of the Collectors, Ben remembered fighting alongside in what the Alliance dubbed "Awakened" those Collectors have always unnerved Ben. Every battle he participated was long and arduous and Ben had hard time remembering when was the last time he slept. He lost a lot of friends he made over the war he remembered trying to contact all of his friends especially Kallia but received no responses. The uncertainty combined with the losses made Ben doubt that they could even win this war but as long as he's alive, he'll fight tooth and nail to defend against the Reapers. As soon he was done with a battle then he went into a ship to prepare for another battle. It was absolute chaos as Ben witnessed the destruction of worlds and deaths of countless civilians. "I wondered how Kalia would've reacted to all this?" Ben wondered still searching for the remains of his team. He told himself when this was all over, he would quit the N7, go back to being a mercenary where he would reconnect with Kalia again...... If she was alive. Shrugging off those thoughts, Ben reached to Omni-Tool. "Sgt Lamar come in." Ben said. No response. Shaking his head Ben kept moving through the ruins of London. Even though the battle was won the galaxy has its work cut out in rebuilding the civilizations that were lost to the Reapers. A few hours later, Ben heard noise coming from a building wasting little time ran near the entrance where there was a conversation taking place: "If you really are authorized to be here, human, then you have no reason to be uncooperative. Your former employers have infiltrated the ranks of the Alliance. It is your duty to assist us in eliminating this threat. Stand down." A Turian voice...... survivors! Cautiously Ben entered the building, "Don't be alarmed!" Ben said "I'm a friendly, Sgt Benjamin Walker N7 Soldier of the Alliance. Glad to see some friendly faces!" (OOC: Xesthan )

Zahn Viratas Turian Male Age: 23 Mercenary, Traveler, and Writer bsn.boards.net/thread/3113/characters-thread"I do not work for Cerberus," the woman said, "Neither I am not going to be watched. If I see someone following me or restricting my movements they will die. I have authorization to be here. If there is a Cerberus agent nearby I am obligated to hunt them. But get in my way, and it will not end well for you. I do not care who you are, or what your names are. It makes no difference to me." "My apologies, Miss," Zahn said politely. "It's not that I did not trust you, I was just in a hurry to get moving." Now that Zahn thought about it, the Turian looked familiar. Cael was his name. Cael read the data pad, looked back up, and addressed Zahn and Kato. "I was just about to head to the Forward Operating Base. I don't know who this agent is, but we don't need a bunch of terrorists getting their hands on any more intel than they already have. We should move quickly." "Don't be alarmed!" a human said "I'm a friendly, Sgt Benjamin Walker N7 Soldier of the Alliance. Glad to see some friendly faces!" "I recognize him from earlier today," Zahn said to everyone else. "You can trust him." He directed his attention to the Ben. "Welcome aboard. We'll explain the current situation on the way." Zahn continued speaking to everyone "We all heard the Staff Sergeant. While I wouldn't mind putting the leader up to a vote, I think it's best for him to lead right now." The Quarian seemed as though she were a good choice, but it may have caused the woman in Cerberus armor to be uncooperative. He walked over and asked for the names of the Quarian and human female. It would be easier working with them if he had their names. OOC: GeneralXIV

Skyla still refused to stand down, but she noted the presence of another human. She stood silent for a moment as she contemplated her response. One thing was for certain, she had no reason to trust any of them, and had no intentions of doing so, so kept her pistol raised. "Being the enemy of my enemy does not make you a friend. It makes you a liability," she said, "You have proven yourselves to be reckless and irresponsible. Were it not for my quick reflexes and good judgement, two of you would be dead, one at my hand. If I was a Cerberus operative armed with an explosive, the rest of you would be too, for approaching a potential threat with little or no caution. I have seen nothing to suggest you would be any benefit to me, or that any of you are capable of leading. I have no intentions of following orders. There is a target, and the target will be dropped with a single shot. Nothing more. Do not get in my way, and do not slow me down." She completely ignored the question of her name. She had no intentions of giving it to anyone. She hoped her statements would make clear her feelings on the matter. It could not get any clearer. She could have killed them all far too easily if she wished to, and she would do just that if they prevented her from assassinating the Cerberus agent. They meant nothing to her. Sar spent the past minute or two sitting. Listening to what the others had to say. There were indeed Cerberus agents in the area, but this particular Nemesis was not one of them. Everything seemed in order, and the two Turians, two Humans and a drell had a peaceful conversation up to this point. She ran the situation through once again in her head. Nemesis, behind her. Pistol, drawn. Then the stand off. The hide and seek. Were Major Reegar still around, they would've been interrogating a captive right now - that, or he would be the first to intercede. Not that Sar would ever know which. The Reapers killed Reegar and everyone else she ever knew. Ghost only passed basic a few weeks ago: By anyone's standart, he was still a greenhorn. Unproven. He wasn't there for the Stand. He didn't know a thing. Perhaps she did jump the gun? This Nemesis had a different paint scheme. The Widow was not what Cerberus used. It - she - was not openly hostile. In fact, this was the first time Sar had ever heard a Cerberus operative speak beyond half-garbled, short barking their commanders used to order their subordinates. There was even something defensive to the Nemesis' behaviour, but Sar was not a psychologist, able to determine what could have caused that. She was a sniper. She came up with nothing. The truth of the situation was wisdom as alien to her as this planet. The only thing she knew: Her nerves were obviously strung to the breaking point. To zone out and lose all sense was completely unlike her. She had enough of this stupid war the Galaxy did not provoke. She wanted to go to Rannoch. One way or another, there were Cerberus operatives in the area. Disguised as a communications officer at the FOB. Just where... "Ghost." There was no time to consider options. Everyone else seemed to be preparing to leave for the base in question. Sar stood up and faced the Nemesis one more time, this time her weapons holstered: "What do we call you, then?"
OOC: Fine, I came up with something. Exploring what the characters think and feel actually seems to be right down my alley. I guess we're ready to move to the FOB. Any time, guys. @tzeenchianapostrophe it's your turn, right? Ok. Let's try to keep that posting order then.

The Cerberus agent Cael had struck let out a groan and crumpled to the ground. He might live, but he would have a hell of a headache when he woke up. The drell had not been so merciful with his sparring partner, who now had a sword protruding from a blood-stained helmet. Crude, but highly effective. It was a good thing Kato was on their side. The battle wasn't over yet, however. Cael spotted a movement to the right as two more Cerberus agents opted to take cover behind another terminal rather than stay in the open. In a practiced motion, Cael grabbed a fragmentation grenade from his belt, pulled the pin, and lobbed it against the wall so that it bounced and landed almost exactly between them. They dodged in opposite directions: the Trooper towards the door Cael had entered through, and the Centurion toward the back wall. The grenade detonated, damaging the terminal but leaving the two men unharmed. The turian brought his Phaeston to bear and, tracking the combat roll of the Centurion, fired off a burst. He calculated perfectly, landing four or five good shots on the torso and a couple on the right arm. The Centurion went down. Cael was about to give the same treatment to the Trooper when his right arm was lashed from behind by a Dragoon. The new combatant jerked Cael in his direction, causing the turian to stagger a few steps and the Phaeston, now only gripped by his left hand, to fall to his side. There was no way he would be able to fire it from that position using only one hand, so Cael didn't try. Instead, he dropped his rifle and activated his left omni-blade. The Dragoon tried to capitalize on his opponent's momentary disorientation by swinging with his other lash at the turian's head. Cael evaded it by ducking his head and then slashed at the lash constraining his right arm, severing it in a single blow. Now free, he purged the Foucault currents in his armor, redirecting the charge to his gauntlets for greater effectiveness, and leapt forward, plunging both omni-blades into the Dragoon's chest. The Dragoon yelled in pain. Cael twisted the blades further to maximize the damage, then braced his leg against his helpless opponent's chest and ripped them free. The Dragoon collapsed, no longer in any condition to fight. (OOC: smilesja is up. I left that Trooper by the door for you if you care to deal with him.)
