www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-01-23-10-hour-trial-of-mass-effect-andromeda-out-five-days-before-launchEA plans to release a 10-hour trial of Mass Effect: Andromeda for Access subscribers. The hefty trial of BioWare's sci-fi action RPG comes out on 16th March - five days before the full game comes out on 21st March in the US (it's 23rd in the UK). It'll surely let you make a decent dent in the game before it launches proper. Access is EA's subscription. You get early access trials such as this one as well as a number of games to download from the Vault (EA recently added Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3 to the Vault). Origin Access is available on PC via Origin, and EA Access is available on Xbox One only. Like with other Access trials, your Andromeda progress automatically carries over to the full game if you buy, so you can pick up right where you left off.

It is pretty much the full thing. The only limitation will probably be not being able to finish the main path for spoiler reasons. Which i wouldn't be able to come close to doing anyway in 10 hours, the way i play (slow, with like 2 hours in character creator).

If progress doesn't carry over to the actual game, I'd rather just start on the 21st. Don't wanna have to redo all the beginning areas and such on release day if I've already played them. lol

yeah I'd raher wait for the full game plus I don't find Access that much worth it considering I only play singleplayer anyway.

Progress carries over. 10 hour limit. The plot is likely gated (DAI was gated after the Hinterlands). It can be as frustrating as it can be nice.

It can be as frustrating as it can be nice. I dunno. Unless you wanna do a speedrun, it's only nice. You get to play the game early. The time limit is set so that only the minority should be hitting the wall so to speak before the 10 hour mark. Maybe the time running out and having to wait is a little frustrating, like showing someone a treat and taking it away again.

It can be as frustrating as it can be nice. I just find this practice frustrating. If the game is ready, just release it. I also don't agree with releasing the game early to a subset of players based on their willingness to subscribe to a service. Where I find it interesting is that it's a substantial free demo, which makes me think they have confidence in the product. If it weren't for the early access thing, I'd be completely behind this move.

That's tempting. How much is Access? It's $4.99 Us a month. also includes free unlimited access to Vault games and you get a 10% discount on all games and DLC you purchase which is also added to existing sales.

That's tempting. How much is Access? $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year. Considering you can get 10% off ($6 off a $60 game) for signing up for Access, then immediately cancelling the renewal, I don't see why anyone who is going to buy the game without waiting for reviews/discounts wouldn't sign up.

That's tempting. How much is Access? $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year. So I could get it on March first for a month then cancel it, if I chose? I'm still on the fence about this game anyway. Not rushing to buy it.

Okay, there's one thing that potentially can be really frustrating about this. Bugs. Day one patches usually don't come out before the official release date.

I don't think pay-to-win is iffy at all. It's pretty clearly negative. Also, I have no qualms about the benefits of people paying more for a collector's edition that offers physical goodies. That's not the case here. This is blatantly charging customers more to play their game early. That is not okay to me. It's an industry trend that is getting more and more egregious by the day, but since they introduce little changes at a time, everyone just lets it slide. Like the boiling frog anecdote.

The frustration for me (having done the DAI trial) was having a ticking clock on my head.
I could quite happily burn through 10 hours and then be waiting 6 days to the 23rd...
It's nice, not complaining, got a 10% game discount as well...

Those who get the demo: Let us know if there's anything like the 'kid in the vent' this time around. I believe they are still doing a MEAMP Beta for Xbox One and PS4 prior to launch. EA has been liking the MP demos lately as well, with Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2, so I would be surprised if there wasn't a MP "tech test" before the game launches.

Not wanting to pay for something but then complaining about the benefits people have that do pay is a little... i dunno... I mean, pay to win is a little iffy but this is not the case here. Sure, this isn't like 'pay to win', but it smacks a bit too much of ransom, IF getting the game is your only incentive for signing up, and you're planning to cancel once you get the game. There are other ways of enticing people to sign up; like short trial periods, etc. (and if the service is interesting enough, that should be all the motivation a buyer would need anyway). Audible, for instance, just gives out a free audiobook; sure, it can be abused, but it presumably works for them, since they've been doing this for a very long time now. I don't think Sony holds anything ransom, unless people sign up for Plus. So, although the product is ready by Date X, they're telling consumers: Unless you pay a little bit extra, we'll keep it from you -- for no other reason than that we want you to pay that little bit extra -- for 5 more days. People who pay that ransom aren't really getting a new service or a new product (a substantial 'benefit') for their money, which other, less scrupulous people want to get 'for free'; it's that they're tricked into paying for a 'trial' of Access which they didn't even ask for.

This is blatantly charging customers more to play their game early. That is not okay to me. It is no different. Well, the only difference is that it seems you personally don't care about physical goodies but do care for playing early.
