Hey guys!! Sorry to be popping in so rarely, I've been buried with work, but I have some questions that need answers! 1. To those of you who never played the original trilogy before MEA and who did play it later, what are your impressions of them? (Not in comparison necessarily, just... in general, what were your expectations going in, did you play all three, etc.?) 2. I already know from a lot of you and you probably guessed the second question, but here it is: if you started out as an ME fan playing MEA, what are your impressions? Evfra and Akksul chapters are in the works, sorry for the epic delay - as I said, buried in work. It is nice to see you again I can only comment so far as about half way through ME1. I like the crew and most of the squad in ME1 though I somehow have both Ashley and Liara all over my Ryder and he's kind of like, um, I didn't flirt with anyone (said in cold male Ryder voice) . So I guess I'm finding the MEA crew a bit warmer and a bit more like family. I'm not sure if that will last the longer I play MET. I agree with both OneCrazyMonkey and lilyenachaos on what they both said about the Trillogy as opposed to MEA. Yes, MEA has it's flaws -- my biggest being that choices seem a bit the same and some of the big choices (except the one you make on the Salarian arc) are fairly easy to make. Also yeah, the Archon isn't scary at all - he's got Coryfeus (sp?) written all over him. In some scenes the Archon's little face reminds me of a grumpy teddy bear. It's almost hard to take him seriously.

It seems fans demanding the game early is why we are where we are atm (BW stop catering to demands and go at your own pace), so I am just going to wait and see. If no DLC, it won't change how much I enjoy the game. Time for a break from this drama!

I only played MET for the first time ever last year, so I can't answer that, but If I had played MEA first, I would have loved it and bought MET to learn more about the lore! 2. I can say going into MEA I felt tears of happiness seeing my fav aliens in Frostbite form! My first thought and it's still the same is "this is an ME game and I love it!" plus MEA gave me things I felt lacked in MET and had wanted to be in it, so that also made me happy.

Now I have some questions that are Jaal related! 1. What was your first impression of Jaal in the trailer?What is this thing? it's kind of cute, is it a he? he has a monocle like a sir. I think I'm going to bang him. 2. What was your first impression of Jaal in the game?Oh god, he's invading my space and grinning all saucy. I'm coming 4 you Jaal....in all seriousness, his awkward shyness and bungling of human idioms was adorable. My Ryder also felt a pretty big connection to him from being recently orphaned, they found comfort in one another and raised each others self esteem. Also he's a precious little cinnamon roll too good for this galaxy. :sob: 3. Did he meet your expectations?He exceeded them and became one of my favorite bioware romances. I didn't think anyone could top Solas, Cass or Thane for me and I believe he managed to do so. 4. Are you disappointed in anything about in-game Jaal?
That there's not enough Jaal. (well, his extra flirting with the squad should be tamed......or cut, cut would work. ) 5. How could Jaal be improved in future games?
I'm not sure, maybe more down time together just hanging out free of stress, kind of like the Garrus date in Mass effect 3.

What was your first impression of Jaal in the game?This guy is too adorable, and so gorgeous to look at, and what a voice, but Jaal, personal space! 3. Did he meet your expectations?Above and beyond! He was so perfect in every way, even his flaws made him more perfect! 4. Are you disappointed in anything about in-game Jaal?He was too much of a flirt and sometimes made my Ryder feel inadequate when PeeBee was around. 5. How could Jaal be improved in future games?We've seen Jaal's romantic side, funny side, sad side and angry side, but we haven't seen his intelligent/geeky side. He is knowledgeable about many things, but unless you catch the banter, he comes across as less an envoy and more an escort!

So I played the Mass effect series from the very beginning and Andromeda definitely felt like it belonged. Andromeda flt closer to the Mass effect series perhaps more so than either 2 or 3 did imo. I used to love cruising around on all the planets with the mako in ME1 and while Andromeda is not perfect with the open world, it felt familiar to me and even better than 1 in this respect (and the Nomad is much more fun!). I think people actually forgot how bare bones the worlds were in ME1 and tend to look at it with rose tinted glasses. ME2 and ME3 were too restrictive in exploration for me. If we're talking about squad mates, I have a love for the squad in Andromeda that I didn't have for my team members in ME1. Sure I came to love Wrex and Garrus in time but it took three games for that to happen. The only other ME game where I loved my squad instantly was ME2 because honestly, Legion, Mordin, and Grunt were pure win ha. There are times in Andromeda where I felt like they played the story too safe but I feel like that's to be expected, even ME1 ended on a hopeful note before it got all broody with each consecutive game. I know Andromeda definitely had problems, I won't deny that, bugs, lack of m/m equality in the beginning, some animations that got bungled, ( but I didn't really care that much about animations lol) however for the most part I had fun. Probably the biggest problem I had with Andromeda was with the Archon himself, I just did not take that guy seriously and I found Saren much more interesting and compelling. I also felt that Andromeda didn't do very well with squad banter but it's not a deal breaker for me. Oh and I love Andromeda's soundtrack. I don't get why so many hate it so much but to each his own. hmmm I think that's it for me. I hope answered your question satisfactorily. Don't be sorry for your work. I'll be waiting here patiently for your chapters and it's good to hear from you again. Awesome and detailed response, thank you! Interesting - so MEA feels like a continuation of ME1 in some ways if ME2 and ME3 hadn't happened? I'm also compiling a list of things about MEA which reminds people of ME1, I don't have much on there so far, but if you'd like to contribute (and everyone else, of course): planetary exploration on the ground with the Nomad, sound effects, equipment and variety of skills, Citadel-esque nature and layout of the Nexus vs. the confined, one-room-per-level style of ME2 and even ME3 to some extent (though in ME3 it's not the space but how it's occupied - the Citadel basically turned into a giant refugee/war camp in some ways); of course, all new and improved, but still reminiscent of ME1. I'm having trouble pinpointing exactly what it is about MEA that really gives me the ME1 vibe apart from these obvious details, but it really does. I have a reason for asking these questions which I hope to share with you guys soon. People hate the OST?? I had no idea. Gwyvian good to see you! Well things are going to be cleared up a bit this weekend (not a confirmation), but I really don't care anymore. As Onecrazymonkey1 knows, if we get a DLC my fear is them ruining Jaal, so I think I'm still leaning to wanting things to be left as they are, and I want the DLC only for pure, utter revenge. Thank you! I really wouldn't worry about ruining Jaal. They've done their "worst" already by revamping his character, which is a serious intervention (to clarify I'm not complaining about the result at all, I'm just saying that's pretty gutsy to reach into an existing character and make such big alterations), so I rather think they're done with messing with him - otherwise now two fan camps will go after them with pitchforks and no one wants to see that happen. Besides I've never known Bioware to make DLC's purely to focus on a character relationship unless it was especially plot related and the only two instances are both in DA and pretty damn good, the rest are all about awesome expansions of the actual story. I'm fairy certain it will be a quarian thing, though (and I am not so secretly super excited about the prospect). 2. I already know from a lot of you and you probably guessed the second question, but here it is: if you started out as an ME fan playing MEA, what are your impressions? It was clear to me how the game ended that they listened to the feedback they got about the ME3 ending: squadmates showing up in the final battle, clear cutscenes of allies showing up to work with you, one last "goodbye" with your squad before the end credits, etc. The game felt complete and provided better closure. I enjoyed the trilogy, but I felt the ending cast a long shadow and was ultimately not very satisfying. Andromeda was much better in this regard. I do miss playing a renegade, but Ryder definitely feels like a different character and I never once thought of Shepard or made comparisons. I like how Andromeda did not leave any major plot points or character development hanging (e.g. Morrigan pre-Witch Hunt, Solas pre-Trespasser). Hmm, they did do an expansion on that ending theme, didn't they. I mean, personally I'm in the camp of those people who were totally OK with even the original ending (please don't stone me guys) and I was really satisfied by meeting and talking to every single one of my still alive companions (which was all of them because that's how I roll), especially the final goodbye when my squadmates were shipped off before I went into laser land and got sucked up to the Citadel - very moving, very overwhelming emotionally, the whole experience. I felt it was appropriate that at the end, Shepard is alone like he/she began and after all the totally messed up crazy shit that they went through... I felt like it was a complete relief for my character to finally be able to just let it all go and die. Actually the most traumatic thing for me about the ending was that after everything that happened at the end of the game all of a sudden my character was loaded onto the Normandy where (post-death??) I could finish up any unplayed missions, etc. that aren't story sensitive - I kind of freaked out. The way I saw it was not that all my choices didn't matter (in my eyes, it's a narrative story, having a million endings after the direction of the entire journey was so focused would have felt pretty weird for me), but rather that my character has - after loads of sacrifice and hardship - finally transcended something profound about the entire nature of this corner of the universe which went beyond the understanding of anyone else alive or anyone who had been alive throughout the millennia that passed during the Reapers' many experiments; and honestly, the Reapers themselves were such huge entities (not in body, but in an existential sense) that I don't really see how they could have made more satisfying endings than the three approaches they provided: traditional military defeat, purification of all technology or synthesis (which I think was a fascinating option, it's my personal favorite). But that brings up an interesting follow-up question: I know many people were massively dissatisfied with the ending and I'm sure that there are as many reasons for it as there are people who belong to that group, so my question is: how would you have changed the ending to make it more satisfying? (If the answer is: "take my choices into consideration more" I'd also be super curious as to exactly how you would envision that.) I feel your pain with Ashley and Liara, my first ever ME1 PT I "accidentally" ended up dating Ashley (who I despise by the way) and I had no idea how I even initiated the romance, that's one real complaint I've always had about ME1. I mean, now that I've played it so many times I know how to meta it, but... yeah. That's a very good point about the magnitude of the choices - I'm definitely making note of that. Please do tell more if you continue playing MET, I really, really want to know more about this perspective! Can finally answer this! 1. Gwyvian I still worry about the Jaradaan thing. I just want Jaal safe lol Well I loved MET a lot, but everyone always agreed with Shepard most of the time (I loved Zaeed for challenging me). The Normandy had a crew that was supposed to feel like family, but I always had this feeling of distance with them, and they always saw me as authority more than a friend. I also wanted more flexibility with how I operate in fights, so jumping around, running , heading to cover, etc... let me really stretch my legs in MEA. Also I liked the LM's in ME2, but they were just so you could keep everyone alive. MEA's LM's made me feel like I actually grew closer to my crew. Basically I wanted more bonding, more meaningful romance scenes and more ways to deal with battles. MEA gave me all that and more!

I was having trouble deciding who to romance and when Jaal was revealed as an option (and revealed in general a bit more) I just knew. 2. He's a little... too human? When he says "OK" to that guy I just sort of winced and thought that maybe that was pushing the whole "my translator interprets alien verbal and body language and came up with the result of 'OK' in this situation" - I'm a linguist, so these kind of things bother me, it's like someone performing a Shakespeare play to glitzy pop music (and I have seen that, it's as awful and cringe-worthy as it sounds - well, I mean, it sounds that way to me because I'm a purist snob, I know this). Other than that, I thought, "good, he's not a fawning softie!" and I was basically just dying to know more. (I got over the linguistic thing, btw.) 3. I try not to have "expectations" in that way. The character and narrative is developed the way it's developed, I was trying my best to be a blank slate ready to be filled by whatever the authors of Jaal designed him to be, so he didn't meet or fail or exceed in that sense. That being said, the little amount of information revealed about him did give me a grasp of what his character was going to be like and despite the sparse amounts compared to other team members, I felt the way I generally do about most modern trailers: I already learned all the essential parts before even getting to play the game, so again, there's nothing to exceed or fail at because I am unfortunately good at deconstructing information like that and getting a pretty accurate picture of personalities. Not that I'm complaining, I picked Jaal that way and I wasn't disappointed by the choice, he was consistent with his introduction throughout I think. 4. Well, his relationship with Peebee pissed me off a lot initially, but mostly I have a problem with her, not Jaal, so I don't think that counts. Other than that... from the perspective of the character himself (not the design of the game or content quantity) I don't really think there's anything that disappointed me. I won't say that I'm disappointed by lack of content because I don't think that should be equated with disappointment in his character - that's partly why this whole PR mess about MEA exists in the first place, mistaking quantity, developmental or technical issues for quality, they are not the same thing. 5. I don't think he needs improvement, for the same reasons as I gave in the previous question. I think he was written as a damn fine character and I happen to like it.

Now I have some questions that are Jaal related! He went by so fast, but it was 'wow!' hmmm! he doesn't like me! (obviousy fixed that!) Better than, actually. I thought he would be male Tali. Post romance dialogue is wonky, nothing new to reflect romance. More time, maybe Citadel style date, or personal quest. And the repeatable kiss scene like Cullen in DAI.

Gwyvian It's like they were trying to make the Angara most relatable to humans out of all the MW species, but I agree that the alien part of the Angara was lacking. I understand they are emotional and expressive, but they still felt human instead of alien. I'm not sure if that was their true intentions, but I think my only issue with the Angara. brandoftime Tali, Garrus and Thane were the ones Jaal was compared to pre-launch, then reviewers started to say he was like Javik too lol I think he kind of reminds me of all 4 mixed, but still holds his own as a new character and not a copy and paste.

So basically MEA has the advantage of being a better version of what ME1 could have been if it stuck to its exploratory roots and opened a world of possibilities instead of narrowing and focusing the story... basically the side effects of that is what makes MET more "professional" I guess you could say. I agree about the LM's, they are kind of more a mechanical act of necessity in some ways. Ah, the Jardaan. Again, I wouldn't worry - the angara had centuries to develop any issues that might come from being engineered and only the Archon was hell-bent on using RemTech for whatever reasons, with him gone and other kett taking over the incursion I don't think they'll suddenly grow smarter and figure out a way to sabotage the angara really... I don't know though. That one reference to being able to control the angara was extremely vague and could be interpreted in several ways I think; plus, knowing Jaal to be a significant (romanceable) and popular character, I think that even if the Jardaan thing would turn out to be something extremely bad for the angara like turning them into drones or something, Jaal would probably be an exception and he would demand that you help him fight to save his people from what befell them. From what I've seen of Bioware so far (all their studios) they don't really discard companions like that, unless it's by player choice. Even the ones who leave you or end your romance are generally alive and well; additionally, knowing the angara and Jaal in particular, it wouldn't make story sense for him even to up and leave you - that would require extreme duress and bending his character out of shape, no good writer does that.

It would have been as simple as showing Shepard on the Normandy with the rest of the crew for like two seconds. (The MEHEM mod did a great job with having Shepard being the one to put Anderson's name on the wall. Simple, effective, great closure.) I understand the arguments for why it's unrealistic for Shepard to live in the end, but 1) they DID open that door and said Shepard could survive and 2) I bent over backwards to have 100% war assets and get the best ending possible. I know they wanted Shepard dead across the board on their end, but they could have thrown a bone towards those who were willing to work for that optimal outcome. When ME1 ended, the final scene was Shepard standing in front of a red/blue planet with a rifle as the music swelled. I wanted something better than a body lying in the rubble for a character that was never going to be playable again.

I agree about the LM's, they are kind of more a mechanical act of necessity in some ways. Ah, the Jardaan. Again, I wouldn't worry - the angara had centuries to develop any issues that might come from being engineered and only the Archon was hell-bent on using RemTech for whatever reasons, with him gone and other kett taking over the incursion I don't think they'll suddenly grow smarter and figure out a way to sabotage the angara really... I don't know though. That one reference to being able to control the angara was extremely vague and could be interpreted in several ways I think; plus, knowing Jaal to be a significant (romanceable) and popular character, I think that even if the Jardaan thing would turn out to be something extremely bad for the angara like turning them into drones or something, Jaal would probably be an exception and he would demand that you help him fight to save his people from what befell them. From what I've seen of Bioware so far (all their studios) they don't really discard companions like that, unless it's by player choice. Even the ones who leave you or end your romance are generally alive and well; additionally, knowing the angara and Jaal in particular, it wouldn't make story sense for him even to up and leave you - that would require extreme duress and bending his character out of shape, no good writer does that. Yeah I think that's the one thing MEA did better, but there is one thing I don't like about MEA. It didn't feel alien enough. When we first land on Habitat 7, I felt like a stranger in a strange place. The Remnant and Kett were new and frightening things I'd never seen before. There was a dark mystery to solve. Then we get to the Nexus and instead of that vibe with Shepard with alien mistrust, we are all one big family. I like that we let go of the war, etc... but it felt too perfect. No conflict. Also finding out the Angara already know of humans was sad. I wanted to make real first contact with them, but they know of us thanks to the Exiles. Yeah lol I guess I am mixing up ME with DA and how they treat your LI sometimes! I do find Jaal's acceptance of it a bit odd. He does too actually. It was a moment where I wondered if we might learn of their true purpose since he was embracing it so easily.

So I played the Mass effect series from the very beginning and Andromeda definitely felt like it belonged. Andromeda flt closer to the Mass effect series perhaps more so than either 2 or 3 did imo. I used to love cruising around on all the planets with the mako in ME1 and while Andromeda is not perfect with the open world, it felt familiar to me and even better than 1 in this respect (and the Nomad is much more fun!). I think people actually forgot how bare bones the worlds were in ME1 and tend to look at it with rose tinted glasses. ME2 and ME3 were too restrictive in exploration for me. If we're talking about squad mates, I have a love for the squad in Andromeda that I didn't have for my team members in ME1. Sure I came to love Wrex and Garrus in time but it took three games for that to happen. The only other ME game where I loved my squad instantly was ME2 because honestly, Legion, Mordin, and Grunt were pure win ha. There are times in Andromeda where I felt like they played the story too safe but I feel like that's to be expected, even ME1 ended on a hopeful note before it got all broody with each consecutive game. I know Andromeda definitely had problems, I won't deny that, bugs, lack of m/m equality in the beginning, some animations that got bungled, ( but I didn't really care that much about animations lol) however for the most part I had fun. Probably the biggest problem I had with Andromeda was with the Archon himself, I just did not take that guy seriously and I found Saren much more interesting and compelling. I also felt that Andromeda didn't do very well with squad banter but it's not a deal breaker for me. Oh and I love Andromeda's soundtrack. I don't get why so many hate it so much but to each his own. hmmm I think that's it for me. I hope answered your question satisfactorily. Don't be sorry for your work. Interesting - so MEA feels like a continuation of ME1 in some ways if ME2 and ME3 hadn't happened? I'm also compiling a list of things about MEA which reminds people of ME1, I don't have much on there so far, but if you'd like to contribute (and everyone else, of course): planetary exploration on the ground with the Nomad, sound effects, equipment and variety of skills, Citadel-esque nature and layout of the Nexus vs. the confined, one-room-per-level style of ME2 and even ME3 to some extent (though in ME3 it's not the space but how it's occupied - the Citadel basically turned into a giant refugee/war camp in some ways); of course, all new and improved, but still reminiscent of ME1. I'm having trouble pinpointing exactly what it is about MEA that really gives me the ME1 vibe apart from these obvious details, but it really does. I have a reason for asking these questions which I hope to share with you guys soon. People hate the OST?? I had no idea. I think I associated a sense of hope between ME1 and Andromeda because everything feels so innocent and heroic at the end of both games. Andromeda as a coming of age for Ryder and ME1 proving oneself as a specter. Sure, there seemed to be more weight/sadness to the decisions of ME1 but at the end of the game, you felt like Shepard would be able to overcome anything, even with ME2 you could still overcome all odds through cooperation and smart decisions. Ryder may be a rookie finding his/her way and they may not be an N7, but it was an uplifting feeling I got with Ryder's team and all the alien species working together at the end....something that was robbed at the end of ME3 for me. As for Andromeda's OST, I've seen quite a bit of people saying they hate it. I don't mean the comments saying that it was too quiet but comments that actually say it sounds ugly or uninspired. I really liked it though. *shrugs* I can't really pinpoint what it is about Andromeda that reminds me of ME1 so much and I have a hard time articulating my thoughts at times but I hope I made sense.

Just a warning. Do not read the Twitter thread. It will not help your temper. Onecrazymonkey1 the exploration of planets reminded me a lot of ME1, as well as a few things in-game meant to be a nod to it, like Tann refusing to let you find Meridian, and the Nomad landing on Meridian like the Mako did, etc... learning of the Angara is like the Protheans, but if you notice, it's all opposite! Tann is pleased with us and we don't punch him to escape. We land on Meridian but lose the Nomad instead of need it to get to our goal. The Protheans died in stasis pods, the Angara are not even alive.

4. Are you disappointed in anything about in-game Jaal? When I'm in a committed relationship with him, he blatantly states he wants to fuck Asari for science right in front of me.
5. How could Jaal be improved in future games? I need more customizations. I want this universe to feel like my own. Why can't I change his outfit colors and weapons? I also want a better explanation about his new role in the Resistance. After Meridian, why is he still on the Tempest? The mission is done. I clearly want him on my ship, but I need more than him just wanting to be there. I don't know nearly enough about the Resistance.

Obiwancomeblowme I'm just trying to understand why they felt PeeBee and Jaal was something people wanted to see? I agree! DAI was the best for that! I spent hours making beautiful outfits that looked amazing in cutscenes for my companions! Jaal would look stunning in a deep royal purple I think. Jaal should move to our quarters once we are committed, and cuddle on the bed like in ME2!

They should of at least fixed it so it wouldn't trigger while in a relationship because otherwise it wouldn't bother me. Mayber flag the flirting not to go off after you make at least one flirt. They should've also completely taken out imo the most hurtful one from peebee, talking about reproduction and then slyly mentioning Jaal. Like no, you do not talk about having babies with your friend's boyfriend, to their face no less. Oh I had hoped it would be gone so bad....lol
