I'm asking Fryda if her J'all reply was a joke or not. If not then we have our answer.

It doesn't make any sense for the J to be pronounced as Y. Why would the in-game translation software do that when there's no cultural or historical reason on our part to do so? J are normally only Ys in English due to defaulting to that language's use of the Latin alphabet, but that clearly shouldn't be the case for Andromedans. The double-a means it's a long a, so the a in Bra or Father but longer. Gonna assume they have their own alphabet and what we use is a translation. Doi. How do you thinl the laguage barrier is overcome with the Angarans? I literally can't think of a scenario where it happens quickly and easily. I know the Nexus got there before the arks did and shit went down there. Enough for Sloane Kelly to be hanging around in a little port that also has Angarans in it. Could it be they already have a limited understanding of english? That being said the lady Angaran in the last trailer kinda made it out like they'd not really seen humans before. But I suppose that could just be because they were on their homeworld (?) That's my guess. Humans have been here for several years before we arrive. Intelligent aliens who know what's up (and who care about diplomacy and trade) probably learned the language asap.

While joking about who voices Vetra in the MEA Twitter thread, we started talking about Argonians in The Elder Scrolls, and I realized why Angaran sounded so familiar to me. Only diff is Argonians are reptiles!

All I know for sure is I hope Jaal (if he is one of the m/m options) has a happy ending. I'm still mad about the Dorian ending in Trespasser. "Love ya, but I'm leaving you. We'll skype on a crystal...later bitch!" v.v Actually Dorian's inability to ever be serious during the romance scenes was a huge turn off in general-but that's off topic so..back to business. Jaal does have some similar things about him to Garrus, but he is a lot better looking! Having lips is a must for me, and thus he won that war out of the gate. I wish I could like your post more than once. Most M/M romances in BW games were non-serious. I'm tired of this. Give me something normal, BioWare! Now i demand 2 serious romances as a compensation for Inquisition's IB and Dorian.

I'm not too into serious characters personally. But I'd like if Jaal became kind of rival character to Ryder, someone that challenged you and didn't warm up easily. Kind of someone you want to impress.

Unless they use J for spelling the way, say, the Polish do to transcribe "Ya" as in Jarek, or the wide variety of potential consonants the Chinese transcribe via Q, Z and X, because it is not a letter-based language. One would hope a sci-fi video game series would put serious thought into the languages (including the naming systems) of the species they've created.

Kind of someone you want to impress. I don't want him to be serious; I want him to take the relationship seriously. It's kind of a complicated distinction, sorry, probably am not explaining it well Hmm, as for me, I kind of want him to feel immediate curiosity/attraction to Ryder but to not be obvious about it. I'm going for the amused older lover (a.k.a. Solas) trope again lol! #sorrynotsorry #atleastthisonescanon

Have they actually created a language for them though? I imagine we'll hear words from their language and maybe phrases like with the Quarians and their Bosh'tets but I don't think really they've fleshed out a language. (Except Qunlat) I found it really funny in the trilogy that when Thane says siha Shep is like "my translator is glitching". But at keelah se'lai no one bats an eye.

You've just demonstrated the complexity of using Roman script for rendering foreign languages (even lettered). It is all about conventions. If I am told that Angaran convention calls for Jaal to be read with the first "j" as in Jaheira, I'll do that. We'll probably see his transcribed name in the codex. In the past Bio's voice actors did pronounce some of the "fantasy" names in different fashions, depending on which actor read the script. It even landed a bit of aucenticity to it, and I don't mind it. Obviously, I would have loved it if we saw a lot more bacroom stuff created for Andromeda races than makes it into codecies, but I understand why not. I do love it, when BioWare stylizes their speech like with Voss.

My first thought when I saw him was he might be a snob who thinks he's superior to the Pathfinder and wishes to use them for his own advantages, but then things chance as he gets caught up in their adventures.

The more I look at Jaal the more I can see the attraction. He's definitely attractive and I'm curious about his voice and character.
Everyone who knows me from old bsn will know that I want everyone to get the love interest they want so I'm hoping if he is an LI (which seems likely unless it was confirmed), I hope he is bi!
