I haven't see anything implying that Jaal fan base are a bunch of psychos just yet. Either I have a high tolerance or it's all on tumblr which scares me as it is lol. I was going to say this too. I'm kind of confused, actually? If we talk about anything "out there" we're joking half the time. Meanwhile other fans fixate to a crazy extent on Cora's hair or whether or not her butt is big enough or if her height and weight taken together make her fat, etc. I don't know, I'm not fond of being labeled a "crazy fangirl fandom" even in jest because usually it makes people get nasty. The game isn't even out yet and we're getting that label?

Ah I didn't mean the fleshy ear/neck thingies they have. I ment literally their forehead, where he has the colorful markings. The part cut off is like his forehead. You can see the skin pattern matches as it trails around the sides. Nothing about Jaal looks rough tbh, just... slippery would be the word I guess. Wow... I just realized how pretty his skin is... You are right. And is skin is really pretty! *.* Another thing! Do you guys think the ama in his name is a honorific?

Ama Darav may be something like 'of Darav', kind of like Vas with Quarians. On another note, when do you guys think they'll introduce us to Jaal, if they will at all before release? I remember one tweet in response to the dev who talked about Jaal's butt suggesting that she should make up a little haiku about him once they've told us more about him. That's kind of suggestive of us getting info on him before the game comes out.

Ok after watching the trailer a couple more times it seems like it's more of a body type thing as opposed to a male/female difference, though it does look like the males have... more. bent? legs? Is this how words work? Idk how else to describe it. But basically I agree. I still can't really tell if it's about standing straigter? Or maybe it really is bc the males are more bulky, so it somehow seems that their legs are bent more. Now imagine one of them angaran men stand straight up! Imagine how tall they must be.... *_* I'm a sucker for tall men... Not hard since I'm a tiny 5'1 but really tall omg pls yassss Talking about differences. Lions... Their males are big and heavy and the she-lions are smaller slimmer faster. Males protect the pack (is that the right word for lions?) against threats. So they need to be big and strong. The girls go out hunting, so being slimmer and fast is an advantage for them. So maybe Angaran have ancestors who had similar roles? ------------- Drunken Jaal is best Jaal. Gosh... I'm very sure he would be all cuddly and touchy and nomnom kisses now when drunk... *_* It's pride. And well, don't blame me for this... you mentioned lions, this is what pops into my head when I think of em. Love that movie and it's on topic.

Here's that old pic of the Angara (I believe my comment then in regards to a possible romance among their species was something like - no thanks, purple play-doh people, not doing it for me... LITTLE DID I KNOW...): So my guess is the textures on these guys aren't finished, since they look really basic and flat compared to what we saw in the recent trailer. But it does look like the common NPCs wear tighter clothing with drape-y bits. But I imagine Jaal will wear something more unique if he does have more casual clothes around the ship. Though his teal jacket might be that, but he'll have optional light armor to wear out in the field (if I'm correct in that he's an infiltrator/soldier with emphasis on stealth type). I'm hoping he has armor to wear anyway. That Angaran armor looks pretty badass. Also these guys do look very thick... Jaal looks like he's a bit slimmer than them. I also noticed all the Angara in that line-up are wearing identical green armor, except for the lady leader in red who's wearing something unique. And I just noticed how in that gif it looks like she just stepped aside for him... Hmm. Also does anyone remember the 'quarian' on the Nexus? I'm guessing now that's a female Angara. She look like she's wearing the same green outfit as the girls above. And there's a casually dressed one beside her. So, mystery possibly solved, but... Quarians...? (Not that Jaal isn't a fantastic consolation prize and all, but, my space gypsies - this picture was my one hope! ):

In our defense, he's a character we know will be a squadmate and he's literally one of the only brand new elements revealed to us thus far. Of course he'd get more discussion than other squaddies! But really, it makes me cringe a little that we're getting introduced this way to the devs.

It looks like the tentacles are like the female one, and don't have a pattern, and seem thicker. They are tucked in his coat. It is all very squid-like. His name actually reminds me of another character, but I can't quite remember. The name related to the class. Could be like that, or simply their language.

It's the Angaran equivalent of -senpai Also I never even thought about that, that's actually a pretty solid reason to think we'll learn more about him before the game comes out. I expect we'll see him in a trailer and hear his voice?

Hey, Jaal fanboys and fangirls are the sane part of the fandom. The insane ones are the ones who want to do their Ryder twin. Yeeeeah, we have alot of Lannister twins fans in our fandom it seems... remembers people asking to romance Bethany threads, wew lad.

I see your point. On the other hand, we did see only 3 seconds of Jaal, and just look at this thread. In our defense, he's a character we know will be a squadmate and he's literally one of the only brand new elements revealed to us thus far. Of course he'd get more discussion than other squaddies! But really, it makes me cringe a little that we're getting introduced this way to the devs. To be fair, the first part of the thread was people speculating over what Jaal actually was, and then there's a lot of speculation not just about Jaal but Angaran culture and their home world and such. Which makes sense since it's the only friendly alien race we have so far (though I do hope to meet some friendly Kett too as they look interesting as well). And we do tend to go off topic at times, not that that's a bad thing necessarily. I feel like there's more of a community vibe here than in the other threads, I don't know - though I admit that besides the Liam thread (the other character I'm really looking forward to) I tend to only poke my head into the other ones if something new comes out. Again, I bring up the Solas thread because it was similar. It was more about the community of people who liked him than it was even about the character. I also suspect we'll see more discussion here because, like most of the Solas fans, a lot us are probably lore nerds too! So the more info we get, the more in-depth analysis we'll see too. So bring it, Bioware!

On Jaal's outfit, I think his Funko Pop gives us more of a hint as to his default armor. It seems like what we see him wearing in our introduction to him is his typical field armor. I mean, it does look relatively armor-y, at least! I don't imagine he'll change into casual clothes on the ship, though this is just me talking based on previous Mass Effect games. It's possible that all companions will have a casual outfit like your companions in Dragon Age Inquisition did. That would be nice! Also, I like the little star things on his pants. I wonder what those actually look like in game.

Oh, and for reference I don't mean the tumblr content scaring me per se. I mean the actual site because it intimidated me and I had no idea how to use it after once trying to make an account Either way, I think the Jaal fanbase on bsn has been very tame and nice. I love tumblr!! It's totally my happy place on the web. It's unusable without xkit, which is a Chrome extension. Xkit allows you to blog tags and do other cool things. I'm happy to help you figure out tumblr if you like (for anyone who cares curiousartemis.tumblr.com/)

The game isn't even out yet and we're getting that label? Comes with being female (or perceived female) and a fan. Trying being a Cullen fan for the past several years. I didn't even "desire" him in that way; I just thought he was a great, complex character and wanted to romance him with my character. Yet I was lumped in with the "raving fangirl!!11111 omg so kawaiii hoooTOTTTTTT want to bang hahahahahah" trope. (Which was hardly any old school Cullen fans). Of course one thing that contributed to the disdain and the name-calling was a somewhat new group of fans who coined the term "Cullenite" and started posting naked pics of Cullen in the thread and acting generally like teenagers (and also tweeting the devs all that stupid shit). Sometimes you can't help what other people in a fandom do. You will just get lumped in with all of them. That's part of the reason I'm against have a fandom "name" (like the Jaal Cats or whatever) or tweeting the devs fan art and stuff.

fialka those early pics of the Angara are when I first said I would love to romance the new race. I was so curious about them and wondered if that could happen. Had no idea what I was getting into with that until I saw Jaal. Now I'm not the only one it seems. That's part of the reason I'm against have a fandom "name" (like the Jaal Cats or whatever) or tweeting the devs fan art and stuff. Same here! I am no fanatical fangirl. I romanced everyone in DAI and the ones I liked most I talked about on the forum. Soon I was viewed as a crazy fangirl for it. The reason Jaal has a large thread is not because of just his looks and that you can romance him, it's because he's new. A new race. A new experience. We know nothing about him and half the fun of that is analyzing and theorizing. Every other character is a race we already know the ins and outs of and I see nothing wrong with being excited about something new.

That's part of the reason I'm against have a fandom "name" (like the Jaal Cats or whatever) or tweeting the devs fan art and stuff. Oh, I've seen us Solas fans got our share of accusations and labels from many fans, often to a bizarrely caustic personal level. We're the types that fall in love with serial killers in real life, we're racism/abuse apologists, we're pathetic fangirls who are "obsessed" some douchebag character and to be disdained, so on and so forth. It's not fun how far that stuff can go. But we digress. Fact is that Jaal fandom is chill and nice and though it gets me a little on edge that people on Twitter are presenting us as bordering on obsessive, there's nothing that can really be done about that. I have fun joking/speculating in here with you all! It passes the time until the game comes out so nicely. Also, I have no problem with tweeting (non-lewd) fanart to the devs. They love that stuff, and I think they'd be ecstatic to see that fans are getting so inspired by a character we haven't truly met yet. On top of that, some of the Jaal fanart is already really, really good!

I definitely agree on the whole Cullenite thing. I was a fan of the character, but I rarely posted in his thread (and certainly never called myself a Cullenite) because of the stuff like you mentioned overtaking it. The intelligent discussion was still there, but it got drowned out by all the fangirls who only seemed to care about how hot he was. The Solas thread became my haven though. There was the occasional 'tight pants' joke, sure, but also lots of cool people and neat discussion way beyond just about the character. After the game came out there was definitely that handful of posters who were 100% about the romance, but it was a small minority and even then they paled in comparison to the super-Cullenites. The Jaalicats thing doesn't bother me though. The fact that it's based on a joke tweet by Fryda makes it inherently silly, and is as much a tribute to us not taking ourselves seriously as it is to Jaal himself. At least that's how I feel. And as for fanart, I know Fryda especially has said in her interviews that she loves fanart and fanfiction, and both she and Tom have been re-tweeting it on their own. So have the other devs. That and the fact that they release the character kits for artists to reference tells me they love seeing what the fans come up with.

But honestly, we digress. Fact is that Jaal fandom is chill and nice and though it gets me a little on edge that people on Twitter are presenting us as bordering on obsessive, there's nothing that can really be done about that. Whoa whoa... wait... what? I love how such unintelligent, pointless dribble is thrown at Solas fans who are some of the most intelligent and amazing people I've ever met!

I love tumblr!! It's totally my happy place on the web. It's unusable without xkit, which is a Chrome extension. Xkit allows you to blog tags and do other cool things. I'm happy to help you figure out tumblr if you like (for anyone who cares curiousartemis.tumblr.com/)I followed! haha Fair warning, I'm fairly obsessed with Voltron and Yuri on Ice at the moment
