Oh, I've seen us Solas fans got our share of accusations and labels from many fans, often to a bizarrely caustic personal level. We're the types that fall in love with serial killers in real life, we're racism/abuse apologists, we're pathetic fangirls who are "obsessed" some douchebag character and to be disdained, so on and so forth. It's not fun how far that stuff can go. But honestly, we digress. Fact is that Jaal fandom is chill and nice and though it gets me a little on edge that people on Twitter are presenting us as bordering on obsessive, there's nothing that can really be done about that. Whoa whoa... wait... what? I love how such unintelligent, pointless dribble is thrown at Solas fans who are some of the most intelligent and amazing people I've ever met! Yeah. Sometimes I would actually wander over to the Solas thread b/c I wanted to actually gush about my romance with him lol!!! (yes me!) but they'd be so heavily entrenched in some deep lore discussion that I was like, whoa, this is way too serious for me!  They're good people. |

fialka those early pics of the Angara are when I first said I would love to romance the new race. I was so curious about them and wondered if that could happen. Had no idea what I was getting into with that until I saw Jaal. Now I'm not the only one it seems. Comes with being female (or perceived female) and a fan. Trying being a Cullen fan for the past several years. I didn't even "desire" him in that way; I just thought he was a great, complex character and wanted to romance him with my character. Yet I was lumped in with the "raving fangirl!!11111 omg so kawaiii hoooTOTTTTTT want to bang hahahahahah" trope. (Which was hardly any old school Cullen fans). Of course one thing that contributed to the disdain and the name-calling was a somewhat new group of fans who coined the term "Cullenite" and started posting naked pics of Cullen in the thread and acting generally like teenagers (and also tweeting the devs all that stupid shit). Sometimes you can't help what other people in a fandom do. You will just get lumped in with all of them. That's part of the reason I'm against have a fandom "name" (like the Jaal Cats or whatever) or tweeting the devs fan art and stuff. Same here! I am no fanatical fangirl. I romanced everyone in DAI and the ones I liked most I talked about on the forum. Soon I was viewed as a crazy fangirl for it. The reason Jaal has a large thread is not because of just his looks and that you can romance him, it's because he's new. A new race. A new experience. We know nothing about him and half the fun of that is analyzing and theorizing. Every other character is a race we already know the ins and outs of and I see nothing wrong with being excited about something new. I concur. And Artemis, I know exactly the kinds of fans you're talking about. I've had to tango with a few of them on Tumblr, they're pretty nuts. But on the flip side, a very close friend of mine is a big Cullenmancer and loves him to death. But she absolutely hates the majority of the Cullen fandom because they are so ridiculous. For our sake and our sanity I really hope the Jaal fandom doesn't turn into something like that. We are a large population, and generally large populations are going to attract all kinds of people. And the unfortunate thing is, the Bioware fandom can get pretty damn toxic. But I'm still keeping everything crossed that the Jaal fandom stays relatively sane. And AHH yes, the Solas fandom being accused of falling in love with serial killers. I am a Solasmancer, and I've had people accuse me of being a bad person quite often. Simply because I try to reason with them about Solas being a morally grey area like Bioware CONSTANTLY portrays. Very few of their villains are "mwa ha ha I'm evil because I just am." Because in reality there are two sides to every story, and that's what they portray in their games. But do I even want to get into the whole "Iron Bull is an abusive rapist" side of the fandom... ? |

We got into some pretty deep stuff! I will rejoin once my MEA excitement has waned. Right now talking about a new species that will bring new lore and new culture is really getting me hyped, along with the courtship rituals Fryda mentioned and how big a part they play in the main story. One scene in the trailer gave me a weird vibe about them so I wonder how connected they are to the Kett too. |

haha Fair warning, I'm fairly obsessed with Voltron and Yuri on Ice at the moment  I tend to make sideblogs for all my obsessions, masseffections and pelessaria are my current mass effect ones  You can't follow from sideblogs though, which I never understood  I gave up on sideblogs honestly. Cause it was too hard and too confusing. now it's just my main blog, a mix mash of various fandoms and cats and funny memes lol |

No doubt we'll get our share of obsessive, overly sexual fans moving forward. There's something about Mass Effect's alien LIs that brings it out! I've seen some...things in Tali and Garrus fandom. But that's why I find the idea that Jaal fandom is already akin to both of them combined ridiculous.
To make it clear, I don't mind our little tangents into admiring Jaal's looks or joking in a more suggestive manner. I've done it, and it's no big deal and the discussion in here is fun. I'm just wary of people already tweeting the devs about how "obsessive" we are because that leads nowhere good.

I was a fan of the character, but I rarely posted in his thread (and certainly never called myself a Cullenite) because of the stuff like you mentioned overtaking it. The intelligent discussion was still there, but it got drowned out by all the fangirls who only seemed to care about how hot he was. The Solas thread became my haven though. There was the occasional 'tight pants' joke, sure, but also lots of cool people and neat discussion way beyond just about the character. After the game came out there was definitely that handful of posters who were 100% about the romance, but it was a small minority and even then they paled in comparison to the super-Cullenites. The Jaalicats thing doesn't bother me though. The fact that it's based on a joke tweet by Fryda makes it inherently silly, and is as much a tribute to us not taking ourselves seriously as it is to Jaal himself. At least that's how I feel.  And as for fanart, I know Fryda especially has said in her interviews that she loves fanart and fanfiction, and both she and Tom have been re-tweeting it on their own. So have the other devs. That and the fact that they release the character kits for artists to reference tells me they love seeing what the fans come up with. Another opinion here on the whole Cullen thread/"Cullenite" situation- I too was a fan of his character and was a part of the original Cullen thread but bowed out sometime around the 50-150 page mark because it became soo cliquey. Although I still liked Cullen and for a time defended his fans when haters arose, the much later adopted nickname of "Cullenite" and the childish fangirling did not help my opinion of the fanbase... And by the time the game was released it had tainted my view of Cullen and I was no longer a fan. This thread is pleasant and lighthearted so far and I hope that it stays this pleasant even as we get more info. |

What kind of edition of the game are you buying? Will you go digital or physical?
I'll be buying a physical copy, just prefer having my games on disk, don't know which edition I will buy yet tho. I'm still gonna read some reviews before I'll buy and I'm gonna allow myself to be spoiled silly up till the 21st here. Then I'll go dark.

I don't see why they wouldn't allow us to upgrade considering they allowed it for ME3 and DA:I but I'm still worried. I want the box for my games shelf but I want deluxe. |

I love tumblr!! It's totally my happy place on the web. It's unusable without xkit, which is a Chrome extension. Xkit allows you to blog tags and do other cool things. I'm happy to help you figure out tumblr if you like (for anyone who cares curiousartemis.tumblr.com/)I mainly just use tumblr for art/gifs/funnies. Don't bother with anything else there. Physical copy for me. Xbox One and my internet are a goddamn nightmare when it comes to downloading games. I recently had to re-install my Inquisition DLCs and it literally took 10 hours if not more (I had to give up and leave it running while I slept).
As for spoilers, I'm generally a spoiler whore (knew everything about ME3 and about DAI and Solas going into those games) so I won't be leaving here, I don't think. Even if I decided to go in "dark", all I'd do is look up the future outcome of every choice before I make it because I don't want to make the wrong one and have to backtrack hours to fix it. So basically I might as well just know the whole story at that point!
Also, usually the only things people bother to leak are huge story beats, so there's still plenty to be pleasantly surprised with as I play. Especially since my favorite parts of these games are the interactions with companions.

Digital copy only though. I have enough clutter in my life! I have Access already because I wanted to play the Dead Space trilogy and Jade Empire (they're free in the vault - though whenever I sit down to play I end up on the forums talking Andromeda instead ). So that means I get to do the ten hour trial on the 16th. Aaahh that's only a month and a week away!!!  I'm sure the content will blocked and I won't be meeting our squiddy friend in that time (and I'm kinda leaning toward a Liam romance first anyway) but, still... that's not far away at all... The Deluxe edition is only $10 more, and it comes with the pet pyjack (as an animal lover the idea of a cute space monkey hanging out in my quarters pleases me) and the extra armors and the casual outfit which I already like way better than that white AI uniform (I really don't like white. Never wear it in real life). Won't be playing MP enough to warrant the Super Deluxe version, if I play it at all. |

I've literally gone back over 10 hours in a game before to save the NPC I didn't realize was save-able. It's like a compulsion. I want my first playthroughs to go exactly the way I want them to, then I do completionist playthroughs and explore other choices. |

I haven't see anything implying that Jaal fan base are a bunch of psychos just yet. Either I have a high tolerance or it's all on tumblr which scares me as it is lol. Tumblr is rather unpleasant for the most part. But if you are careful you can find nicer people to follow who don't go nuts and show themselves as a bigger problem than the ones they rant about. |

What kind of edition of the game are you buying? Will you go digital or physical? I'll be buying a physical copy, just prefer having my games on disk, don't know which edition I will buy yet tho. I'm still gonna read some reviews before I'll buy and I'm gonna allow myself to be spoiled silly up till the 21st here. Then I'll go dark. I always just order them on Origin or Steam, so much easier that way... What are the digital options? "Digital Deluxe" -- do we get a special outfit or something lol? I'm tempted to get the super deluxe edition since I know I will be playing the MP after I've had my fill of the SP. But I'm gonna take my time with the SP, so it might be awhile till I dip my toes in MP land lol. |

What's your Ryder's name, what class do you think you'll emulate most, what's their basic personality going to be, and which two squaddies do you think will be the staples of your team?

You can't follow from sideblogs though, which I never understood 
And as for fanart, I know Fryda especially has said in her interviews that she loves fanart and fanfiction, and both she and Tom have been re-tweeting it on their own. So have the other devs. That and the fact that they release the character kits for artists to reference tells me they love seeing what the fans come up with.
I'm sure the content will blocked and I won't be meeting our squiddy friend in that time (and I'm kinda leaning toward a Liam romance first anyway) but, still... that's not far away at all...
NOT metagaming isn't fun for someone as obsessive as me, even though I do multiple playthroughs. I've literally gone back over 10 hours in a game before to save the NPC I didn't realize was save-able. It's like a compulsion.
