I don't have Tumblr but I already have a few of you on my Twitter, so if any of you want to stay in touch, we can follow each other. I mostly talk games, events I work at with actors, and random stuff. twitter.com/ladyconsularFollowed you, though be wary of following back; I'm mostly retweeting political stuff lately >.< Twitter's a bit professional for me, so I normally retweet things relate to whatever I'm researching, children's lit, video games, blah blah.

Tumblr is rather unpleasant for the most part. But if you are careful you can find nicer people to follow who don't go nuts and show themselves as a bigger problem than the ones they rant about. Tumblr is GREAT! I never encounter awful people. But on tumblr I am mostly NOT in the BioWare fandom. It's anime, Voltron, Star Wars, etc. No drama! Just beautiful fan art You got lucky! When I first joined I followed a few Biofans for their humorous comics and pictures----then the sh*tposting about straight people needing to die (along with other racist, sexist and bigoted comments that blew my 'effing mind) and such like started which took me completely from left field. I had to unfollow quite a few people after that. Life's too short to deal with sh*tlords like that fouling up your life. I have never hit an unfollow button so fast in my life. I've seen sh*tposting before, but not to the degree that tumblr users take it.

I just know that with BW I would rather be disappointed than heartbroken I did come into the ME series with Thane as my first romance so... yeah lol also does anyone feel that since they announced Jaal they feel more excited than previously to play the game?I'd have to say YES. I'm easily hyped anyway, and the prospect of new Mass Effect anything makes me get on the train FULL SPEED AHEAD. Before the latest cinematic trailer my hype level was like 9.9/10, then when Jaal sauntered down those steps, I died of hype overload in my computer chair and it went to 14/10. I was so into Skyrim and the new SE and it was my life from November to January. That darn cinematic trailer goes up and I only have MEA on the brain now!

Here's that old pic of the Angara (I believe my comment then in regards to a possible romance among their species was something like - no thanks, purple play-doh people, not doing it for me... LITTLE DID I KNOW...): I thought the same thing about Solas but boy did that little heartbreaker prove me wrong. I fell for him hook line and sinker. Please don't let Ja'al's romance end like that.

I was on ladyinsanity's Twitch the day we first saw the Angara. She kept calling them Ivan Ooze and we spent hours studying them. Then I spoke up in the chat and said I'd romance one if available lol a few others agreed. Everytime we'd get into the Twitch chat after that I would keep insisting I would only romance an Angara. I don't get one thing though about the Angara though... they all look the same, but Jaal looks... slightly different.

I can see the scars, his piercings and monocle standing out, but his whole face? Maybe it's because his skin is lighter than the other males I saw. I just can't see those same feline features in them. They look more like the ones in the gameplay trailer. I actually gasped out loud when I saw him. Not at all what I was expecting.

I just know that with BW I would rather be disappointed than heartbroken I did come into the ME series with Thane as my first romance so... yeah lol also does anyone feel that since they announced Jaal they feel more excited than previously to play the game? I was already super hyped for the game, and then Jaal came along and now I tend to not be able to contain my excitement. I didn't even have a love at first sight reaction to him, it was more so intrigue which slowly turned into adoration the more times I watched the trailer lol

Since we're discussing our unique playstyles: What's your Ryder's name, what class do you think you'll emulate most, what's their basic personality going to be, and which two squaddies do you think will be the staples of your team? My Ryder's gonna be called Usagi (which was only supposed to be a placeholder name anyway, but whoops now I rather like it), and because I like it when names match who they're attached to, he's going to be rather nervous and soft spoken. I imagine he's going to do his best to not arouse any hostility with the native Andromedans (which will be impossible not to do :/) and consistently try to get Cora to take over his job, because that boy is only 22 he can't handle having so many lives in his hands. I'm not 100% set on what he'll look like, but I know he's gonna be biracial - specifically Japanese/Motswana - so I'm super glad there'll be proper Asian features and actual curly hair. As for class, gonna roll a sentinel, maybe go into pure tech/biotics if I need to, and since I don't give a toss about tactics I'm just gonna take his LI (hopefully Jaal) and whoever he's closest to after that. Also, about Jaal looking different, we've only really seen female Angara up close. The dudes have all been at a distance or unclear/obscured so I do't think there'll be such a drastic difference in the facial region other than giving him unique features. I suppose that makes Jaal the standard all male Angara must aspire to

This thread moves too fast at night. Lot of Americans around I guess On some points. Angaran's design especially men's look quite heavy. Jaal has broad-shoulders, but looks bit lighter in build than those earlier models of Angarans. Maybe they got changed a bit slimmer or Jaal has unique model? Or then Jaal just looks slimmer in the cinematic scene and might be quite heavily build other-wise. Not a bad thing, just some observation. I don't have lot of problems with fangirling even though it goes over-the-top sometimes for me (but then people have different things they like. I go over the top with shipping myself, but not some other fangirly stuff). I have more problems with anti-fans and people going against fangirls really. The reason I joined in BSN first place was cause tumblr was filled annoying anti-fans of Cullen and I wanted to talk about my- at that time- favorite DA character in friendlier place. Cullen thread was that and I'm grateful for that, wouldn't have joined in Bioware fandom otherwise and met lot of people. Tumblr in general is both good and bad. Has tons of nice fanart and funny text-posts, memes and fandom stuff. It also has strong discource mentality while discouraging actual discussion (which results in some users and posts just being hornet nests you should avoid poking in)- so it's better to not get into political or controversial talk in there. In terms of Jaal's fans being obsessive. Well, this is big thread moving fast that has fangirls (and fanboys but people don't usually have problems with them) in it speaking about romance. That's really enough for it being labeled like that, as annoying that is. I see thread like this as fun to be around though.

I'm really on the fence about a name for my Ryder. I haven't fully decided on one just yet. I'm bouncing back and forth between keeping the default name and picking one of my own. I'll probably pick one before the Andromeda launches. But I do believe I'll push for a Sentinel playstyle personally. It's one of my favorite classes. I might deviate just a tad to include sniper rifles if that's allowed. But otherwise I love the best of both worlds thing Sentinels get. The quick cooldown of Throw makes it so I can keep quick-approaching enemies like Varren and Krogan (with their armor down) at bay. And my tech armor means they have to work extra hard to get my shields down and kill me. It's sturdiness and utility, which I love. I don't really know about personality just yet but I'm leaning toward snarky smartass with her heart in the right place. As for squaddies, I don't know too much about that since I don't know the fighting styles of the squaddies just yet. But I'll probably lean more toward one Infiltrator type and another biotic type.

I just had to catch up on 5 pages of thread. Phew. Thank goodness I have wine and chocolate. I also have a a tumblr, but I rarely go on it. I think I follow around 2 people. Solas I think is one of them. I'm too lazy to figure out what's what on there for the most part. I don't get why we're being labeled crazy already, unless it's not us but cesspool like reddit that is causing it. We're incredibly enthusiastic and excited! Not crazy. This thread is so full of fabulous. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the negative-nancies out there do not find us. I don't want my favorite thread peed in. I really doubt she was talking about this forum. I suspect tweets and places like reddit and Tumblr are a bit... problematic. I don't think she ment it in a negative way... I know why you guys understood it that way but she wrote me that this is what makes ME fandom great. Since I personally never encountered the bad sides of Tali and Garrus fandom I didn't feel like she was attacking me?

Hmmm... I don't think anyone in this thread has said anything crazy thus far. I think the devs sometimes over react to the level of fandom they inspire. Though, I am also not sure they were really implying it was a bad thing. They are just amused by the situation it seemed to me, but then again I didn't dig in to see if there were more tweets. Anyway... My first character will most likely be named after me, and my own personality traits will probably be shoved onto Ryder as much as possible (though he'll not be nearly as lazy as me ) I really like that we can really shake up our character builds this time around, and thus I might be a bit of everything-till I find something that really works. I love power spamming though, so possibly sentinel will be my final stopping point.

Since we're discussing our unique playstyles: What's your Ryder's name, what class do you think you'll emulate most, what's their basic personality going to be, and which two squaddies do you think will be the staples of your team? I have planned two characters, Norman and Mandy, twins. I'll play other game with Norman and other with Mandy so when I'm not playing as Norman Mandy is the other twin. Sara, Scott who? It's going to be bit annoying having other twin being called Sara or Scott, but got idea from another user (props to her) to headcanon it as middle name people are calling them with for some reason. I'll try to make them look same in both games. Also since other is NPC in first game I guess I'll try to adopt whatever personality BW gives to them in that one. If it's something I like anyways. I liked vanguard most (biotic chargest FTW!) in trilogy so I guess other goes with that. Norman probably since I had my fem!Shep was vanguard. No idea about other at the moment. I don't have basic personalities down either, have been thinking a bit, but I think I'll wait a bit longer. Two squaddies. Well if Norman gets to romance Jaal he'll take him and same with mandy and Vetra. No idea about other yet.

Also, regarding my Ryders. I think I'll keep Sara and Scott for my twins. I like the idea that my companions call me by my first name. First I'll be Sara, and she will be a Engineer mostly, but I think I will abuse the respec system quite a lot. She will be serious and collected (but with a touch of sarcasm) when it matters and a rather bubbly/funny personality in private. I think she and Peebee will get along quite well. As for companions... Hard to say since we don't know them all yet. I tend to take my LI with me all the time so, I guess one will be Jaal. The second companion will change a lot As for Scottys first pt... He will go for one the gay LIs and he will be my little dork, who's way to nice for his own good. I think he will be heavier on the biotics. He will take Drack a lot I think.... Other than that I'm not sure yet.

I think you're right that they're likely more amused by the situation more than anything. But even if it were something negative, I can kind of understand why. David Gaider, when he still worked with Bioware as an example, was harassed CONSTANTLY as the writer for Iron Bull. Because women were claiming Bull was an abusive relationship for Dorian, and they were romanticizing emotional and mental abuse. And they would harass him on both Tumblr and Twitter, telling him that he knew nothing about his character or abuse, to the point that Gaider had to block people. Which is really crazy, since to my understanding Gaider is a pretty cool dude. But when he got snarky at this one chick in particular on Twitter and blocked her, the Tumblr fandom went absolutely insane. Which may have been a contribution to why Gaider is no longer on Tumblr. The Bioware fandom can get pretty nasty, and it's unfortunate when the devs are the targets. But when I witness stuff like that, it makes me really understanding why they'd be so wary. But again, I do think that the devs are more amused far more than anything else.

But yeah both of then got quite the heat for the Doribull romance... People seemed to be angry b/c they couldn't stop the romance from happening... (I personally was quite happy that Dorian and Bull did what they want without needing my approval) Then the backlash with Bull choosing the qunari... They always cry that their ingame choices should matter more and then their choices DO matter and they are pissed again... I got quite fond of the block button myself. But as long as people are just happy bubbly fans I don't see anything wrong with that. The world needs more happiness.

I love Gaider's work but he can be very rude to fans (some of which are admittedly just as rude), somewhat pretentious and rather defensive when it comes to critique. There are a lot of people in the fandom (not just on tumblr) who dislike him for the way he acts so even if, as you say, he got snarky before blocking someone- it would be at the bottom of a long list of reasons, many being very valid so I wouldn't call the tumblr fandom insane because of it.

On Jaal's outfit, I think his Funko Pop gives us more of a hint as to his default armor. It seems like what we see him wearing in our introduction to him is his typical field armor. I mean, it does look relatively armor-y, at least! I don't imagine he'll change into casual clothes on the ship, though this is just me talking based on previous Mass Effect games. It's possible that all companions will have a casual outfit like your companions in Dragon Age Inquisition did. That would be nice! Also, I like the little star things on his pants. I wonder what those actually look like in game. Oh, I was hoping that he has more human limbs. He looks like Turian when you look at his hands and feets.

Ohhh, trust me. The devs don't really overreact to fandoms. Uhhhh... I thought Weekes wrote the Iron Bull. Gaider wrote Dorian. Or is my brain mixing things up? But yeah both of then got quite the heat for the Doribull romance... People seemed to be angry b/c they couldn't stop the romance from happening... (I personally was quite happy that Dorian and Bull did what they want without needing my approval) Then the backlash with Bull choosing the qunari... They always cry that their ingame choices should matter more and then their choices DO matter and they are pissed again... I got quite fond of the block button myself. But as long as people are just happy bubbly fans I don't see anything wrong with that. The world needs more happiness. Considering it's Gaider and not Weekes I've seen in these interviews talking about Iron Bull, I'm going to assume it's Gaider. I did look and I could swear I've seen other interviews where he says he is the writer for Bull, but conveniently I can't find them. u.u Well, either way... I know what you mean about that block button. There is just no pleasing people. They'll demand one thing, then when they get it, they'll want something else. Basically what they're wanting is a fairytale with an OP hero that never dies with companions that never die. Unfortunately, a game like that would become very boring very fast. And I do agree with you, I was really happy that Dorian and Bull got together. I found their romance... well... aDORIBULL. XD Hopefully we'll see less people throwing tantrums like that and actually enjoy the game. I'm sure there will always be a few toxic people, but I'm hoping it will be less prevalent this go-round.

What kind of edition of the game are you buying? Will you go digital or physical? I'll be buying a physical copy, just prefer having my games on disk, don't know which edition I will buy yet tho. I'm still gonna read some reviews before I'll buy and I'm gonna allow myself to be spoiled silly up till the 21st here. Then I'll go dark. I don't know yet. I'm still thinking about it and I'm on the fence. I mean I love pyjack but is it worth it?

Hmmm...I hated the Dorian/Iron Bull relationship-but that's not really important to the Jaal thread. I saw very little of the drama with David Gaider, but his posts on bsn(official) seemed to show that he was not having a good time anymore-interacting with fans I mean. I hope he's happier in his new position either way, cause no matter what he played a big part in making a game series I adore! (still off topic doh..gotta really pull this post together somehow) Jaal is kewl! (nailed it)

Btw Patrick Weekes wrote the Iron Bull.I am a little dissapointed with Jaal's body, it's a great body so wide but practically every race has three digits on their hands and we've seen the leg thing before. I kinda hoped the Andromeda races would be more unique.

But again, I do think that the devs are more amused far more than anything else. Mmmmm... well, considering they were telling him that he didn't know shit about the character he himself had a hand in creating, told him that Bull was a PoS, and that he knew nothing about abuse (a very assumptive comment by itself), and were knit-picking EVERYTHING about the Dorian/Bull romance... I would say his reaction was VERY validated. Also, you did admit that fans can and are just as rude to him. And a lot of those "critiques" I have seen passed his way aren't even critiques, they're complaints offering nothing of value other than to say he did something wrong. Or critiques from people who themselves are rather pretentious and overly confident in their writing ability simply because they have a lot of followers on a writing blog. It's cool to be confident in your ability as a writer, but you should always be humble about it. And considering Gaider did climb from humble beginnings to where he was in Bioware before he left, I can understand why he'd be a smidge defensive. But maybe you're right about Gaider. But I haven't really seen anything personally to say that Gaider is unnecessarily rude or pretentious to fans. For me, it just seems like people are mad at him because he doesn't take their shit lying down. I also never did say the Tumblr was insane, I said they WENT insane. That's not the same as actually saying they are. It's simply an expression used when people have a huge raging fit. Not an actual comment to their mental capacity. Either way, I hope Gaider is happier in whatever he is doing now. He said he was going to other companies to expand his experience, so I hope he enjoys whatever he's chosen to do now.
