Welp, with the Pathfinder being brought before Jaal's inspection yup, it can be assumed that he holds a high position of influence among his people. Could he be a Shaman, a Chief? Probably a Chief. Last of the Mohicans in space?

I brought this up many pages back, but that scene where Ryder is tracking blood and finds a dead Krogan and Angaran blood makes me wonder if it's connected to our first meeting with Jaal.

the thing with Solas' fandom is that it was very meager to start with. the people who posted were similarly super keen/intrigued by him (and similarly peppy/warm/chatty, speculative and interested in the lore/plot-tied aspects of the character, and likely to pore over every tiny scrap they had, as the Jaal people), but they were few, and many people were pretty uninterested in him, citing things like bland boring design (now we know how wrong they were ofc lmao*). and there were a number of complaints about the way he looks, mostly centered on his baldness and a few about his facial features (I recall a number of unfavorable comparisons to characters like Voldemort, lol) - nothing in the order of what female characters' designs tend to be on the receiving end of though of course (compare Cassandra then, Cora now, etc). Solas' fandom exploded after the game released and people spent time with him, and finished the game and got The Revelation (with or without romance). in contrast the response to Jaal has been like a rocket out the starting gate (being a striking alien of a new species is probably a lot to do with it). interesting to think about the differences between the fandoms/responses Jaal's awesomeness aside, the similarities between the two fandoms btw are a significant part of this thread's draw for me. *btw those of us in those days Knew, and I'll never stop being like about that whole thing til the end of time. I think with Jaal his importance is readily apparent and we all think it. I never got to enjoy the newness of DAI at the old forum until Trespasser. It's nice to get to be a part of this and not just catching up on what others already know. I came into Mass Effect only in 2015. Pre-DAI days were alot of fun, I was there and speculating just like everyone else, good times. The waiting is the hardest part tho...

Last of the Mohicans in space? Drack will likely be our resident shaman, we are still missing a full biotic as companion and I don't think Jaal is gonna fill that position (if Bioware even tries to have one representative of each of the old classes as squadmates).

What do we think the circumstances for our meeting Jaal is? Looks like we leave that ship alone and it doesn't look like it's the Tempest? Maybe we get separated from the rest of our crew? Picked up by some Angaran's who are either like "wtf is that?" or "it's those weird fleshy things that have been causing trouble" (i.e. Sloane Kelly)
Either way it doesn't look like we're in the friendliest of situations. We were probably trespassing or something. I loved in DAO where you were imprisoned and your squaddies had to come save you. That;d be hilarious if this was the same kind of situation. "We're here to save you Ryder!" *looks at Jaal* "Nah I'm good thanks"

Okay, so I was thinking it looks like Jaal came from that building in the back and everyone (including the Angaran lady in red) sort of stepped out of his way and then he walked down the stairs. And it was just a feeling (and hope bc that would make him look very badass) but I found this Listen... I have reason to believe that might be Jaal in the background, but we can only see half of him bc of the lady's leg. Okay, so notice the armors? The soldiers in the beginning escorting Ryder are all wearing mostly black with some yellow and what looks like turquoise in this light, but it's only in some places, mostly shoulders and in small patches. And the arms are all black. Including the shoulders (except the yellow patches) The 5 Angarans in the first picture also have a mix of black and turquoise armor. Okay. So in the first picture, several Angarans can be seen moving, one of them clearly has white arms on his armor, etc. But the one I circled looks like he's moving towards the stairs. And look at his armor. And compare it to Jaal's: We know that he has a turquoise jacket-ish thing that extends below his shoulders and that the rest of his arms are black. Honestly, comparing that to the figure in the first picture, I'm pretty convinced that's Jaal in the background. The figure's armor colouring doesn't look like anything else we've seen in that scene, and I would say it's unique to Jaal. So my point is that Jaal did indeed walk all the way to those stairs as everyone just sort of stepped aside for him (judging by the scene where we see Jaal's face and the lady in red behind him looks like she had just stepped aside for him to pass) which leads me to conclude that Jaal is indeed a high ranking Angaran and maybe even some kind of leader - either way he definitely has some authority. Badass Jaal: confirmed Disclaimer: I'm not taking this post very seriously myself so please don't go all "that's one hell a stretch what are you talking about this is why they're calling us crazy fangirls" like. I know how far fetched this is. I'm just saying, it could be true. Which would be great. But this was meant more as a joke Mmmm I like this theory, I don't think it's a long shot per se but I did find it difficult to pin point this guy in the background watching it again frame by frame. God we have so little to go on at this point he could very well be someone's bodyguard. "I hear there's a squishy fluff coated thing outside, go check it out for me Jaal." Okay but for real though, bodyguard Jaal? I know you meant it as a joke but I actually like that idea. Could explain why he joins the team, if Ryder somehow becomes important for the Angara (for defeating the Kett, something about vaults, it could be anything - remember the line "I wonder what makes you... special." ?) it would make sense that they would want to ensure Ryder's safety, and send a bodyguard? But then again. Look at that smug face. I feel like he has a higher rank than just "bodyguard" - on the other hand it would explain the battle scar, and maybe the piercings? They seem like more of a mercenary thing? Idk.

"We're here to save you Ryder!" *looks at Jaal* "Nah I'm good thanks" I suggested it might be part of that quest with the Angara and dead Krogan. Also they already seem to know who we are, so I wonder if this is much later in the game when we've made a name for ourselves.

That leaves soldier and engineer for Vetra and Jaal, if Liam's class is infiltrator. Not sure where to put him with his omniblades.

I'm looking forward to Horizon: Zero Dawn at the end of the month, so hopefully playing that will make the rest of the wait easier lol unfortunately I'm gonna be away the week ME:A comes out so I have to wait a few extra days to play. And I know, it would be great if something to do with LIs was released on Valentine's Day! Any small tidbit will do!! I feel like the devs are gonna make us wait until launch though...

Some people thought we got companions too early in ME1 and DAI also had everyone join you right away, minus Dorian and Cole. They might have extended the encounters a bit, or we can just head there right away and the scene happens. Hard to say.

I know what you meant, but concerning the shaman it is true for the social role as well as his game-class. It just made me think about about his combat skills in general.

Hmm, Jaal could be like a solider/infiltrator hybrid, if we go off his funkopop weapon hes holding. Looks like a rifle to me and it seems to have a scope. If I'm remembering correctly, Liam is described as liking to jetpack into the fray? Forgot where I read that..anyway, doesn't sound very sneaky sneaky to me. Of course, I could be wrong!

Its all business as usual till Ryder gets hurt. Then it kicks into overdrive, you can't turn around without bumping into him. He picks off everyone before you get a chance to join the fight. He tells himself it's merely his duty but he can't get rid of the panic when he sees an enemy turn their attention to you. The sheer relief when you're back on the Tempest and he can let his guard down. Except not really. Because Peebee's been eyeing you and that niggling feeling of protectiveness bubbles back up in his stomach. *swoons*

Of course it won't be canon, but still... If this was the case I imagine the whole romance stuff would really start after Ryder being seriously injured on some mission, and he'd eventually confess his feelings or whatever. Whatever the scenario, I can see Jaal being very protective of Ryder, romance or not. He seems like the type? All "Don't mess with me or you'll regret it" on the outside but really caring and gentle when you get to know him. I think it's the battle scar. Gives him a tough guy look, but I can also see him as being the intellectual gentleman type? Ahh I want more information on him so badly. I'd be grateful for even 2 (more?) lines of dialogue. I want to see what kind of person he is! Also I may have been wrong about my theory: The figure I mentioned seems to have a yellow head? Maybe it's something in front of him, or in the back, but idk... Maybe it's a helmet? The armor's colour scheme still matches Jaal's though, and only Jaal's.

I do hope Jaal comes early on. I really don't want to wait until we're hours in to get him. I like getting to know my companions as early as possible. Some people thought we got companions too early in ME1 and DAI also had everyone join you right away, minus Dorian and Cole. They might have extended the encounters a bit, or we can just head there right away and the scene happens. Hard to say. Aw, were there a lot of criticisms about that? I loved that companions joined you early. I have this weird obsession with making sure I get the most out of the companion roster re: writing, scenes, banter, etc., and I feel like it's a bit of missed opportunity when a companion is recruited later in the game (it's also why I frequently switch up companions for missions). Legion was a prime example of this. I hope we get most of our crew early on in MEA, though I think Jaal might be the exception to this.

I second this and its exactly the way i wrote him in my fan fiction XD I am open minded that we are all just guessing with what they have let us see but im glad im not the only one who gets this vibe x

Sloane Kelly) Either way it doesn't look like we're in the friendliest of situations. We were probably trespassing or something. I loved in DAO where you were imprisoned and your squaddies had to come save you. That;d be hilarious if this was the same kind of situation. "We're here to save you Ryder!" *looks at Jaal* "Nah I'm good thanks" It might go something like LOTR fellowship, when the gang get caught in Lothlorien, surrounded by armed warriors. Then are brought before the leaders to explain themselves. Also, I see you ME3 with your Galadriel reference. Eve telling us that story about how she escaped that cave and then giving us that gift. I SEE IT!
