I have a Ryder ready to tackle end game and bang Jaal, but goddamn is it a chore to open up this game again... I think I'll have to do it because I'm gatting major Jaal withdrawal. He is my phone lock screen picture and I sometimes catch myself rubbing his face. Ahhh...

I actually just finished the game (well, I got the credits scene and did the epilogue, still getting new quests though), and romanced Jaal. He's very sweet, very open, almost disarmingly so, it really shows how used we are to romance being this dance of trying to show interest without leaving yourself too vulnerable.

Jaal, in contrast, just says how he feels and that's that. He is wonderfully genuine and got on very well with my truth-obsessed, emotional/professional Ryder.

Highlights for me were his banter with Peebee, though as I was romancing Jaal and turned down Peebee's offer, the one where she pretends to want to have immediate passionate sex with Ryder while Jaal is "asleep" was rather confusing. Absolutely love the fact he never misses an opportunity to wind her up, a man after my own heart.

The other thing was that I got the scene with the promotion directly after the scene at the lake, and though my stomach clenched, I knew that it would be wrong to try to make the decision for him. I actually wondered if he would become a non-squad romance (it never occurred to me that they might break up, just not be living together as it were) but it was a nice way to reaffirm that his priorities had changed.

Amusingly enough, I actually turned down two romances before I got to Jaal, Liam and Reyes. One for clearly being a bloody child, and the other for deception on a grand scale. I think I will forgive Reyes in my next playthrough, if only for that voice.
